The round thing you were asking about is the starter circuit relay. Just go to your nearest auto parts store and find a 4-way relay that matches the plug. Worked for my Bayou 300.
Dude $700 is a steal..all these bikes are getting harder to find, and finding a quad in that mint of a condition for $700 i would buy it all day long...cause you have knowledge to fix em..
If it didn't have top end noise of some kind I'd worry. It's a Kawi. Change oil and ride her til she dies. Probably got a good deal as far as price. Love watching you wrench on those. Got a TRX 400 just came in, top end build. He started it himself so hopefully he didn't lose stuff or destroy anything. 4 hour job should be easy, just need to hone and put together.
I have an 05 bayou 250 i've had it for years and it hasn't had any motor problems for the time that I have had it and I have beat on it constantly and it takes the beating the motors are very reliable from my experience
I had one of those when I was a kid- it was a 220 I don’t know if it as used or brand new. I believe i was 10. Put it through hell and back dad sold a few years later picked up KDX200
I have a bayou 220 now and it has a lot of hours on it and it has no engine noise at all I can send u a vid if u want, tough little machines reliable as hell
The Yamaha Timberwolf/Bear Tacker 250 (I have 3) engines are the same. They get a lot of rattle noise with age. I have tried new timing chains (helps a lot) pistons etc. They run great and are super reliable. Just noisy.
I have a 88 it's a real work horse been great had it for years still have it,great bike went everywhere 4 wheel drives went got some great mud tires for it.BUT DEFINITELY R GREAT LITTLE 4 WHEELERS
Bayous are underrated unless you’ve owned a few. I love Honda but in my opinion these Bayous are built better and last longer than Hondas of the same era and size. The 220 is surprisingly quick for such a small engine. I believe they make around 17HP. Extremely durable machines. That’s $700 well spent.
I got an 01 green bayou too. Got it for $500 since it did not run. Turned out to be the one way bearing. Fun quad for the ranch. Mine does not tick that bad. It does a little but not alot.
Mustie1 had a honda quad that had a noisy top end and it ended up being the cam eating into the head. The cam bearings were the head and with a little bit of polishing up and fixing the oil feed line it came back to life.
Looks to me like the exhaust valve rocker is hitting the decompression lever and that’s what’s making all of the noise. The thing almost sounds like a two stroke with all of that pinging lol
It’s definitely not just the way they run. I’m guessing the cam or rockers are worn. I just saw the part where the decompression lever is rattling. Something is probably not put together right on the top end.
Inspired me to get a quad racer 250r that a friend of mine has that he flipped when he was 14 and never rode again. That was 30yrs ago. About 8yrs ago i got it to start but bogged while riding. We never messed with it since. Trying to get it now
lol jojo i was rite in my last comment bout the machines gettin better i jus got rid of one and fyi a 250 big red carb will make that lil booger top out at least 52mph
I believe that is a roll over switch which kills the spark if it’s upside down it will cut power to shut the quad down. Possibly??? Would check the wiring diagram for that quad to be 100% sure
Joe - I have a 2012 Polaris Outlaw 90 that dies when going slow or after it has been ridden for awhile. It has no problem when riding full-throttle. I’ve replaced the ignition coil and adjusted the valves to no avail. Ideas? I hate to keep throwing money into non-refundable parts.
Back when I was in highschool I had a 1995 Kawasaki bayou 220. Ran it dry of oil. Ceased. Did an oil change, and it ran again. Could not get her to die. Love that four wheeler
Pretty sure the noise in the top end is the decompression valve hitting and that might also be the source of the metal flakes you saw in the filter element when you pulled it.
i literally was looking for a 220, because my friends quad ran so amazing as a 2x4.. in like year 96-2000.. it was never loud, purred like a kitten.. and you literally had to click it into gear first before even touching the gas, or it would stall.. .. seen that thing go through some good mud holes... with out getting stuck.. .. not water holes.. just standard stile mud holes. ..
I had/have a few 220’s 250’s 300’s and they normally don’t have engine noise like that but also the header rings also tend to make it sound like valve noise, wild
fyi missing 16156-002 (metal rod tube that goes inside the filter and sits inside that cap) that goes inside the oil filter. i believe it's a bypass valve so if the filter gets clogged it bypasses. Not 100% sure but it would seem logical with that missing filtration would just by by chance (i noticed same thing on a 300 i picked up),
I seen your 2nd channel. By chance are you separating them with dirt bikes/sport atv’s on one and utility atv’s on the other? Just from a viewers perspective, I usually skip over the bikes & sport atv’s but always tune in for the utility quads. Mainly because I own utility atv’s but no sport atv’s or bikes. I appreciate your videos a lot. 👍
What ended up being the problem to the e start switch not working but jumping the solonoid does? Same thing happening with my atv and I know the button is good.
Ahhh metal shavings are just a sign of self clearancing hahaha and the reason they were in the filter and not rhe oil is because the oil filter did its job!
Not too bad joe could be worse looks good condition will do someone a turn defo better than when you received it that's for sure take care mate all the best 🔧🔧🔧👍👌
I think you're just hearing the decompression lever to. I hear the same noise on my bike bc I have a decompression lever. Every time it makes that clocking it's the lever
Perfect! Do you know if it's easy to hook up the dash cluster that shows the green neutral light and reverse light I believe it is. My 220 didnt come with one so I ordered a stock one from someone online and it had 2 wires coming off of it so I think it will be easy but the atv is up at my parents since they have much more land than I do so I haven't had a chance to look for the wires. Just hoping it wasnt taken off because it was causing some kind of issue but I doubt it. Any help is greatly appreciated!

How did you fix the starter please I have a bayou that the electric start wouldn’t work then I hooked the wires up like u did and mine just clicked now after it turned over
Two problems these 220 bayou have.. 1. They push the start button on handlebar a lot of times the little spring inside there will melt and then you push button doesn't work anymore you can put a new spring in it out of something else to fix them. 2. The valves on these are very bad the valve seats wear out and once they do you can't re-cut them you can't resurface them and you have to find a different head I've got 20 of them sitting here and they're all bad!
It almost sounds as if there's no oil getting to the top end. Is there a telltale for oil flow on this engine? If there's an external oil line to the head cracking a bolt loose whilst the engine's running (briefly) would confirm that there's oil flowing.
I just read that they apparently have plastic gears for the oil pump that tend to wear down, crack or just disintegrate. Could explain the top end running dry

when it was running it looked like the decomp lever was vibrating a lot.. may be the source of the ratting
If you will remove the camshaft and inspect the rocker arms I'm sure you will find the source of your rattle. These bikes are Notorious for that.
Need to investigate the top end I'm wondering if the cam bearing surfaces are torn up.
this part is a relay bro you can use any other genral type relay also diode is to cancle magnetic field effect of relay coil

Make sure the oil passages in your topend are pumping oil. If it’s not getting enough oil, it wears everything out.

@@wisecampmotorcycles8258 probably because of the optional pull start to help the rope last longer.
