7700K served me well for 5 years but when I upgraded to 10700K it made a massive difference I wasn't expecting such a huge jump. In most games the fps almost doubled with the same ram and video card.

Defining how the CPU percentages correlate with how the CPU cores are actually being used, is a major significance that a lot of people don't realize, nor do most others videos of performance tell you about. Thanks for being so thorough.

I built a 7700k because of many UA-camr build videos, but mainly yours and your comparison videos at the time. Ryzen was new and kind of an unknown quantity at the time and, for me, the 7700k was a huge step from a i3-3rd gen prebuilt(that I bought in a pinch just to use as a PC as I gamed on a PS3 at the time). The 7700k is still serving me just fine for what I can ask for it(CSGO@1080p, Doom Eternal and CB2077 were the last AAA titles I played on it). With a GTX 1070, I even had an enjoyable experience with CP2077 @1080p. No issues that could not be attributed to the game, but I still had a great time playing it.
But, the desire to play the current AAA games and realizing it was 7 years ago has pushed me to build a new system. I haven't done anything to the 7700k system except replace the ram I was using due to random memory check errors. I only had to restart and it would boot fine. This happened once in every 20boots or so. I just kind of lived with it for a year or so since everything ran fine once it did boot. Looking back, I'm not sure I ever updated that Z270 mobo, just made sure the XMP was working and carried on.
I just got done building a 13700k. I know you are more partial to the 13600k, but I only paid $400 for the 13700k. Figured the two extra cores couldn't hurt.
The only downside to upgrading, is I have to buy a new monitor to step up to 1440p! But that will be nice since I'll get QHD and a larger display (27" vs 23").

I run a 7700k, 16GB RAM, and a 3070. The rig was my first build and over the years, I've changed power supply, cooler, and GPUs. It handles 1440p gaming well. I would love to upgrade and tinker with it some more but the quality is good enough for what little gaming I do nowadays. In some games, like Forza Horizon 5, the graphics auto set to Ultra or something crazy so I have to lower it a little or else I run into issues and error messages. I think Cyberpunk 2077 was the same but it's been a while since I booted it. 2077 is playable, I don't recall having that many issues with it but I also don't exactly recall my graphics settings lol For an upgrade, I'm leaning towards either a Ryzen 5700X or Intel 12600K because they're both sub-$200 currently.

I might in future completely rebuild my rig or better will be I get away with simply OCing and getting 3070 series. Seems to me there's no way to know other than asking people personally who runs that on OC with that Graphics card pairing. Thanks it will be very kind of you.

I have a GTX 1080TI with a i7-7700k and 16GB DDR4 memory. There isnt a game out that I cannot play at respectable levels. Sure, there are better CPU's and even GPU's out there, but this set up works, especially when you look at the overall gaming library when it comes to things like Steam for example. The overwhelming majority of games you can run at 4k 60fps with this set up, and this isnt even using 32gb of RAM. I built my rig back in late 2017/early 2018 and I have yet to upgrade it. If I do, I will probably max out the RAM as that will be the easiest. Im using a cheap Asus H110-K motherboard that I had to flash in order for the CPU to work. Both the GTX 1080TI and i7 7700K are bang for your buck treasures.

Yup, my old 7700HQ Omen laptop 16GB 2400 (Iknow, it's not a 7700K, obviously...) was running on an egpu from 2019 with a 2060, then a 3060Ti, and was extended to it's absolute max with cpu under-volting. The 3060Ti is the highest practical I think, for a 40gbps TB3/4 egpu, and this rig gave me a playable 110-120 fps 1440P on my regular 64-bit med-tech multi-player online game. Upgrading to a DT Z690, 12100, 32GB 3600C16 DDR4, but same 30360Ti gpu, I now see 210+ fps on the same game & max settings. Next yr maybe a 500USD 5060Ti 16GB 🙏 can drop in, then a 13600/13700K when needed. Things alway move on, but you can step up in stages to get the max life out of your existing components, at the lowest possible cost.

ditch that first gen AMD ryzen ASAP , and try to get a ryzen 5 5600x in there at a minimum. Doesn't have to be a completely new pc but a lot goes into that decision. I'd upgrade that gpu to something a little bit better but the ryzen 1700 was the bigger concern, something like a rx 6600 or rtx 3060 would be a nice upgrade. If going used I wouldn't mind myself something like a 2060/2070, or something else even like a 1080 ti if you don't mind the power draw and lack of dlss. Best of luck!!!

If you have a B450 MB, you can very affordably upgrade to a more current CPU, such as a Ryzen 5 5600, or X version. As far as your GPU goes, it will depend on what you need to do with it. A substantial upgrade could cost between $550 and $600 (US), providing no PSU wattage increase is required. Nonetheless, everything will revolve around your budget.

For best budget: Ryzen 7 5700 non X and a used 6700XT or 6800XT. Six cores will be sweating new gen games this year, Unreal Engine 5. Go 8 core minimum with no doubts.
For best build on AM4: Ryzen 7 5800X3D, its as good or better than 7000 CPUs for games. The GPU here is very tricky because new AMD RX 7000 and Nvidia RTX4000 mid range GPUs are arriving soon but last gen AMD GPUs are insanely cheap, especially used. You could get a 6800XT used for say $350 but then the RX 7700XT arrives at $500 but, its faster and new. The RTX4060 could be faster but the price will be premium. Personally, I would wait until June to scope the new RX 7000/RTX4000 mid range parts. If I had to buy now I would go used 6800XT. Its a tough decision under the circumstances. just don't buy a 6 core, Hogwarts, Callisto, Plagues Tale, Spider Man, are all pushing 70-85% utilization on those. Its the end of the line for 6 core.

You need both upgrades on the GPU and CPU. Taking into a possible geographical consideration, for the CPU at least a Ryzen 5 5500.
For the GPU, if possible and available, a RX 6600. This is to at least play modern games at 1080p High and average 60 FPS.

Great cpu, especially for its time, but I've told them time and time again to either upgrade to an 8 core, as they haven't had the snappiest gameplay. That being said around half of em have only 16gb of ram and well suffice to say they've had a good amount of problems in various titles. Most notably crashing when the game requires 16gb min, and is running alongside 10 chrome tabs open, including discord and a handful of game launchers.

I built a $1500 PC as well when the 7700K dropped. I paired it with a EVGA 980, 16GB DDR3200 Corsair, 750w EVGA Bronze PSU, ASUS TUF MARK 1 MOBO, Phantek Evol M case, 1TB Samsung SSD, Corsair 240mm AIO etc. I have since upgraded to 32GB Corsair, Gigabyte 3070 and another 500GB SSD. This build has lasted me nearly 6 years, but I can tell my CPU is bottlenecking the 3070 pretty badly since some games are only using about 40% of my GPU. I'm going to be building a new PC with a 14700K, 32GB DDR5 6000 etc. etc. I'm hoping to see a big boost in FPS.
