- After some heavy rain, a blocked drain flooded a busy intersection. When the drain was cleared a big whirlpool developed. There's a couple of drains in the same location but it took me ages to find the second one!
Nice video, but next time bring a rake…

learnng just like Post 10 did. Poking around. observing what works, what doesnt. most street drains come in pairs. After water drIns... have a look around for its mate. mKe note of the construction. What Fun!

Great job, only thing I would suggest in this case is going and finding the other blocked drains and going between them to help clear the area. Otherwise awesome!!! Another suggestion would be to use a rake to be able to pull the debris out of the drainage area...

You need to get a tripod or a GoPro so that you can use both hands too.. less chance of dropping your camera/phone in the water.
Great job clearing the drains. It looked like water was coming up out of the drain on the right and the sediment it was carrying means erosion somewhere and the possibility of a partial collapse.
Great point, it seems every time the rain is really heavy it washes up out of the drain with a lot of sediment. As you say, probably a partial collapse further up the drain underground.

The drain you showed around 08:45 seems to actually be the source of the light brown water. (You can see the water well up). There was an endless stream that wasn't fed by any other stream. Good job in clearing the other drain, it avoided the whole street from being blocked even further.

Find another drain on one of the other corners! It'll go faster.

omg just use your foot to remove the debris it´s way easier instead of using one hand. but nice work i am happy there are people out there willing to help
Good suggestion. I can't seem to break up the clog with my foot. Maybe the leaves don't break up easily enough?
If you take your feet and move them back and forth it will keep the leaves and stuff small enough for it to flew the grate
a leaf rake or garden rake would work better than the spade

13:17 - That's what happens when someone pushed leaves and debris down the storm water drains. It always get stuck inside the pipes and the catch basins and block them. That is why there is a grate on top to stop all that stuff from going down there.
Is there any way for me to clean that out? Sounds like something you need special equipment to unblock
@@njy69 You need a large suction truck to clean them out. Like an oversized vacuum cleaner. 😁 The local road authorities should take care of it if you alert them.
Nope, grate is there so that you don’t fall into the hole. Debris should go through the pipe

Nick, take a few minutes and look at UA-camr Golovin Property Services episode titled "Clearing up the last of the Canary Grass & more creek unclogging Part 4. He is using what I call a potato rake. It does a good job and I still use one now in my flower beds to get leaves and pine straw out of the beds.
Thanks, I had a look and did a quick web search, a potato rake would be great! I'll go to the hardware store and have a look, hopefully you'll see me with one in my next video 😁
@@njy69 just get a normal metal rake from Bunnings that way you can use the prongs and the back of it.
A potato rake is for breaking up beaver dams, not these type of drains. For drains with grates, a garden rake is best.

The one arm struggle fest is annoying. Get a tripod, some sort of head or body strap. Or put your camera/phone in a pocket til you get the water flowing and use your voice to tell us what is going on.
