I am a cop in the Miami, Florida area (over 30 years now), I am a Prepper, I am very pro 2nd Ammendment (the whole Constitution really), and I am studying for my Technician License right now. I can't wait to do all of the things I will be able to try (DX, Field Days, CW, PSK31, RTTY, EME, ISS-contact, Satellite) with Amateur Radio. We have Hams in our E.O.C.'s and throughout the County. Thanks for the great channel!!!

+1000 for the PowerPoles & West Mountain Radio. WMR’s battery capacity testers (and other equipment) are great. I purchased a ‘version 1’ battery capacity tester when they first came out. A few years ago, I loaned it to a friend who promptly burnt it up. Now I have the version 4 and it’s even better. I’ve been using PowerPoles for 29 years for ham radio, R/C trucks and other projects. I really have to add, though, that when installing PowerPole connectors in any application where they will be subject to moisture and/or vibration, they really should be soldered. (Soldering them also allows them to be desoldered and used again.) Also, if used anywhere around moisture (vehicles, boats, field day, etc.), the contacts should have a good application of dielectric or silicone grease. As they say, a chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link. ANY poor connection in your power cable will affect the whole operation. I solder every connection or connector, no matter what, but that’s just me. Once I make a connection, I never want to worry about it again. I’m sure you know all of this, but I wanted to mention it for people who are new to using them. Thanks for the great video. When I first became a ham (1989) I worked the world on 10 meters with 10 watts using a simple dipole antenna. I also made contact with the space shuttle in 1992 (STS-45) on 2 meters with 25 watts and a small vertical antenna on my roof. If people want to waste their money pumping out a KW or more, that’s their prerogative, but when it comes down to it, good cable, good connections/connectors, a decent antenna and good operating procedures are what matter. A little trick I used to do to break through clutter, when using low power, was to tune a few hundred hertz low on sideband when transmitting. My voice would then be a little higher in pitch to the receiving station and I would climb over the ‘big guys’. Pro 2A here, as well. Anyway.... 73’s. :-)

    Great Channel, Awesome Videos
I know its not impossible when I can make contact with Hawaii on 4 watts in Louisiana from a CB radio (11 meter) on a homebrew antenna.
I have all sorts of Anderson, Molex, Dupont and AMP connectors and pins. I use them in IT (custom PC building) and radio work mostly. The crimper tool is the same used with Molex type connectors, the Dupont (micro) uses a smaller tool die though. I bought a japanese tool that has changeable die but costs a bit more than $40 lol.
The Hardened Power systems SLA battery adapter I have one and duplicated it and I 3D print my own now for a variety of different SLA sizes with different types of connectors and configurations.
I laughed at that last bit about the DXpedition lol Sounds like some of the Hams around here, They think their shit don't stink.
HAHA welcome to UA-cam lol Where people get butthurt because you do what you enjoy and make a few bucks in the process.. I get that kind of email and messages from my channel related to my gaming content mostly...

You can also get cable for extension cords from repurposed cords from your neighborhood box fan or lamp that was thrown out for trash day. It's a 18g lamp cord wire but it's good for the 15 amp connector and if you use a multimeter to check for continuity or pay attention to the cord it has markings for polarity, I found a box fan just recently and got out my pocket knive and made a 5` extension cord for my distribution box for my powerpoles. 5` of cord for free!

    Hello Robert,
I am a Brazilian radio amateur and I live in an apartment with restrictions on the placement of large antennas.
I use a ft817 and a magnetic loop and almost all my operations are in QRP mode.
One day listening to 10 mts received a strong season in the United States and was heard here as KC4 ....
Promptly replied that the signal came right in here and declined my callsign followed by "/ QRP" I always use when transmitting.
The colleague told me that unfortunately did not respond to QRP stations because my signal came weak and created a lot of fatigue to hear. I was a little upset and said he would exchange radio because I have a FT897 with 100 watts and try to contact again.
I thought and I did not change my radio. With the same FT817, I informed my callsign, this time without the "/ QRP" and said he had exchanged radio. I asked if he heard me well. The "noble colleague" said yes and was reported with 59, excellent audio and contact was recorded in the log.
    Things in life.
Did we talk about the same guy?
Continue with the videos and thank you for sharing.
Here another Brazilian to admire their knowledge

hey brother. future ham here. i'm taking the tech exam on 1/26/17, possibly also the general. i've been tooling around the interweb looking at what to expect. watching some of your vids, and i dig em. I am pro 2A. I'm in PA, I've had my LCTF for a few years. I don't carry everyday, but Its nice to know I can. In reference to the anderson connectors, I was using them until yesterday, my buddy that is going to do a suspension lift on my tacoma noticed I have some of them in a bag on my front seat. He introduced me to the delphi weatherpacks. I know a lot of HAM relies on anderson connectors, but I'm going to use the weatherpacks wherever I can, especially on the exterior lighting. Looking forward to chatting with you sometime. And I didnt know you were a police officer until this vid. Thank you for your service sir.

    • @K6UDA

Well good luck on the testing. You've got a month so there's a good possibility you can run it all the way to an extra. If you've got a CCW, there's no reason you shouldn't be carrying every day. I use powerpoles on all my radios because it's pretty much a standard. I've got weatherpacks on some of the stuff in my race car. They work good but have a tendency to fail after plugging & unplugging several times.

It's not about power. It's all about antennas. I just worked European stations with 3 Watts on 40 meters and got 59 reports. I used my Mosley Pro67b at 75 ft. above ground.

I've not heard Todd for a couple of years here in Scotland as conditions are poor. I'm sure as soon as it picks up again he'll be calling out so fast again that nobody can get in there to answer him anyway. 73 from 2m0rot Stu.

I'm interested in what antenna you are using. Do you have a video that talks about your antennas? Specifically the one you are using in this video? I went to look through your videos but you have so many :D Thanks

It's a well-known feature of The Laws Of The Universe that HF conditions always improve at the beginning of a contest but mysteriously switch off at the second the contest finishes. I wonder why?

i agree, you don't need large amound of power,,,look at what cb user do with 12 watts or less,,,,the trouble on the ham bands is you have to fight with people using 400w plus,,if everyone turned down to 100 or less more people would have a chance,,,but you can work the world on 5 watts,,,also a lot of people just think it a mater of plugging in an antenna tuning it and way you go,,,little pit more to it that that regarding feeder standing waves and having a correctly efficient antenna system thats often over over looked
