How to Permanently FIX Mercedes ML W164 Rear Reversing Camera for FREE - ML350 ML320 ML300 GL

- In this video I show you how I permanently fixed the rear reversing camera on my ML-Class W164 Mercedes Benz for FREE ... well perhaps one dollars worth of consumables were used!
Specifically I am demonstrating this on my 2011 Mercedes ML300 which has had an intermittent fault for a few weeks, where sometimes the reverse camera has lines through it and at other times it is completely black. This video will also apply to ML320, ML350 and the GL series wagons.
Tools used in this video are:
Flat Screwdriver
Easy Stripper (amzn.to/2ZGT2bF)
Soldering Iron (amzn.to/3a1J8Dy)

Previously I have fixed this problem in this video • Mercedes ML Rear Rever... however after a year or so the problem has re-occurred and thus why in this video I am doing a permanent fix to the problem. - Авто та транспорт

Hi Mate, it’s such a crappy design of connectors by Mercedes. Also, I didn’t put it in the video (as I didn’t know at the time) but the actual connection to the camera can also be problematic so just make sure you have that firmly pushed in as well! Cheers Drew
I had the same problem. I just soldered the wires together and it’s working perfectly.
One quick fix is to open the back door and close it again it would always fix the issue for a while

Hello! Did you fix this problem on GL166? Is the problem the same as in the video? I also get stripes sometimes.
my gl350 had the same problem, but I didn't think the problem on the connector, today I tried your way to re-crimp the inserts on the connector, now the back video is on. I will update if the video goes off again
Yep, these connectors are rubbish! I honestly know how Mercedes have got away with not doing a recall 🤬🤬🤬 Cheers Drew

Another great video Drew ! Thanks ! I don't have a camera on my 2011 ml300, have purchased one along with a new android unit. There is a blank plate where the camera should be, do you think it could be pre wired ? how awesome would that be !
Hi Sean, my guess is that there would be pre-wiring that you could potentially reuse for the system that you have purchased. That’s certainly what is typical of manufacturers! Cheers Drew
@@DrewFixIt Thanks Drew, will look into it ! do you have any advice on how to remove the part on the trunk with the licence plate lights and handle ? I unscrewed two torx screws on it but it doesn't come out.
@@mrdarthmoke hi Sean, I think from memory once you have the inner rear door skin off you can undo screws from the inside. Check Drew

I have the same on my ml63 black screen when reverse gear activated.. yesterdag everything works well and now its black😔 did you think this is the same.problem
Hi Muskie, quite possibly you have the same problem! Give the back door a few taps just above the camera with your hand and see if it comes back temporarily? Cheers Drew

My camera is pointed way down and the screen is hard to see with polarized sunglasses. Anyone have this issue?
