    This video actually helped me locate the DPF differential pressure sensor it is behind that left airbox. If anyone has limp mode issues, might be worth replacing that sensor, so far has solved my issues, I had two of the same sensors on my 2010 ML350 bluetec.

    I think the pcv valve replacement before reaching 60k km is probably the most important maintenance item that people neglect on the OM642. This is what kills the intake flaps and all kind of carboned-up issues, not the EGR.

      @@KitYeeScott these things are too cheap to not make it a regular maintenance item with the air filters and whatever. I'll make sure to do it more often from here on out, I was planning 40k for the next change but I'll cut it short.

    Thanks for that drew. Not alot out there for this engine. Alot more out for the older 320 v6. Which has a different pcv valve.

      Hi Ross, u you are correct. Sometimes you may say a Black 2006 ML320, this one has the older PCV valve style which is actually on top of the head and is a different valve! Cheers Drew

    Did this on my w212 e350. Straight forward but those bolts are a bugger to get to. I had to remove airbox and that bracket too Had to use a pry bar to ease it out too. Wish I'd seen this video first . Thanks.

    Hiya, I just did this job on my R class. Your video was very useful. Mine was like yours, just a bit of oil - but it had obviously never been off at 95K miles and 10 years. Liked and subscribed 🙂
    I did the green O ring too - that was hard and knackered!

    Hi Dew... I have a 2007 GL320 CDI and I can listem my turbo leaking air and not boosting... I repalced the Turbo actuator not too long ago and the car was running pretty good until 3 days ago... now, no power and a wooooosh sound coming as I step on the gas pedal. Any ideia? thanks and a big hug from FL, USA. (BTW, I have run a scanner, it said a MAF sensor fault. I replaced both MAFs and same thing. So, I'm really confused about whts going on...

    Hey Drew - thanks for all your videos mate. Very helpful. I have the same car as you, looking at replacing the PCV. I have found a genuine Mercedes PCV for $250 AUD delivered to Aus, wondering if you thought that was a decent price. I’d rather get the genuine part as opposed to a third party but wondered if that price is in line with your expectations. Cheers mate.

      Hi Adam, I just looked up my records and I paid $279 for my genuine one (incl postage), so I personally think $250 AUD delivered to Aus is a good price.     I have a 2007 ML 280 CDI, misfire at idle but drives ok.......It has an OM642 turbo diesel like yours but older. Nothing comes up on scanners.

    I own a 2016 GL 350. I have noticed that the fuel consumption has increased after i had its B5 service done from he dealership. And I have also noticed some oil on the plastic box like thing that is in the front of the engine connected to the line that goes from turbo to the intercooler.

      Hi Mate, unfortunately I have not many very good experiences with mechanics (inclusive of work undertaken by dealerships) which is why I do all of my own work now and share as much information as I can to others with my videos. Any oil leak is not right and you have two options 1/ take it back to the dealership where the service was done and get them to rectify the issue that they caused under warranty or 2/ fix it yourself! At the end of the day the most likely cause will be a bad seal as a result of them pulling something apart and then stuffing the seal on reassembly!     Hi, thanks so much for educating us with all these great videos. I also have a 2011 ml350 with bluetec , with about 115000 miles on it, recently it has had a really bad vibration while driving in traffic with low rpm usually abot 1400 to 1900 then it goes away, almost as if the transmission mount was causing it. I was wondering if you or any of your viewers have experienced similar issues. Best regards.

      Hi Vahid, vibrations can come from many places throughout the entire driveline. Personally I would start with checking to see if your wheels are in balance and then progressively work through checking mounts and couplings. Note, I did personally have a vibration which turned out to be a wheel out of balance at one stage. Cheers Drew

      Hi Mate, I have used oil additives many years ago, but that was like 20 years ago. I certainly am not against them, however I genuinely purchased high quality oil as specified by the manufacturer and rely upon good quality oil. Cheers Drew

      Hi Mate, a bad PCV valve has the potential for the turbo to suck crankcase oil when it spools up, Whig I suppose could then pump that oil through the whole EGR system too … Cheers Drew

      Hi Brady, I did not use a torque wrench, I just tightened them by feel. Honestly the best part I have swapped out, there is another idea I did after this one wrt the unexpected increase in fuel economy, which is absolutely true to this day. Cheers Drew

    Another great video, you are saving us heaps. Can I confirm that with PCV valve replacement, do I still need to install oil catch can? That is a more daunting task which I'll happily avoid. My OM642 has only done 70K Km or 44K miles. When do I need to start replacing the PCV valve? Are there symptoms like high fuel consumption which is a good indication to PCV failure? Thanks again.

      Hi Rafis, all excellent questions! To be honest I think this is actually an age thing as opposed to usage (eg kms) as the rubber diaphragm inside the PCV goes hard with age, however the thing to do is to simply take the plastic turbo y inlet pipe off and look in the turbo inlet to see if there is excessive crankcase oil sitting on the inlet lip of the turbo. I have not put a catch can on my OM642 and mine has now done 140,000 kms however I have thought about doing it a few times. Probably not a bad idea in the long term, however my thought was to fix the source problem first, which I believe was the PCV. After doing the PCV I surprisingly got much better fuel economy which I also explained in a video:

      @@DrewFixIt ​ @DrewFixIt Hey mate, so took your advice and took out the Y pipe cause I was only getting 7-8km/l on a highway run and only 9-10km/l in the city. I think a dielse can do better. And true enough, even at 77K km, there's oil around the turbo inlet and both ends of the Y pipe seals. I've ordered the PCV part you've suggested and once it's in, I'll find the courage to replace it. It is an easy job but it is in such a tight space that it is tricky. And you are so right about mechanics at dealerships. This car has a good history of it being serviced and maintained at MB however when I removed the Y pipe I saw that one of the seal was not seated properly and someone has forced it in and lock the clips meaning it was not sealed properly for many thousands of kilometres. Not sure if this would disturb the MAF and fuel consumption. Anyway I've replaced that left side seal myself and hopefully I didn't bodged it as it wasn't as easy to put it back as the right hand side. The turbo seal looked alright but I've replaced it with a new one and it fits a lot more snugly and have also tightened o ring clamp which was not tightened before. I also wonder if I should just block off the PCV hose connecting to the Y pipe? And then block off that hole on the Y pipe, what would that do if I don't install an oil catch can. Thanks Drew

    got e350 4matic,2010 model,just same part. They sell also that oilring,oilseal,60euros. And whole tubular system,200euros. So i just bought whole tubing valve case thingy.430thousand kilos driven, in a klock. About time to change. MIL-light ,motor shape- is on now. Just fefore,i put 4tech stuff in a tank.     1 month ago i did the oil change in a workshop . After oil change i noticed some loss of power . But I didn’t care because there was no warning lights . Yesterday i checked there but the PCV rubber seal , intake seal weren’t connected well . I will change the seals immediately.
    Could it done any harm to the engine or other components??
    These days no one can believe the workshops . 😕 even he didn’t close well the air filter clamp 😑

      Hi Kavindu, the last time I went to a workshop I was terribly disappointed. They charged a lot for sub standard work, I think I took the car back to them 4 times to fix the issues that they created, but then in the end I had to fix several things (that they did wrong) myself ... just not worth it, that is why I started fixing my cars myself and why I try to share what I do with others too! But this time i have an extended warranty for this car . So i must visit the workshop. But i was really scared how they closed the air pipes . If he did any repair inside engine nobody sees that .

My suggestion is to find yourself a good indy to do service work but then check everything they do yourself afterwards!     Some youtubers suggest to reroute the CV from right in front of the turbo intake to in front of the air filter to reduce suction. What are your thoughts on this?

    Hi Drew, were you noticing an oil leak before this repair? I've been chasing an oil leak on my jeep cherokee with the om642, I had the oil cooler seals replaced and that helped a lot but I still have a small leak somewhere leaving 5 or 6 drips after it is parked. Thanks!

      Know this is late, but om642 has issues for oil leaks at the vacuum pump as well as the oil housing filter. Worth looking in those areas if still have the car.

    Hi from Canada, Drew. This piece of advice is incredibly helpful. I've had a bad oil cooler leak on my 2010 and the mechanic is currently looking at it. The turbocharger stopped working and the car has been in limp mode for a while now. We'll be replacing the turbocharger but I'm starting to wonder if the reason it's not working is because of a leak from the PCV valve? Do you think it's wise to also replace the turbocharger? For the PCV, Mercedes advised to use part A6420102391, not the one you used. I’m a bit confused…

      Hi Mate, are you sure that you need a complete new turbo? I replaced the turbo actuator on the black ML that you sometime see on the channel with this part: amzn.to/41VsXSi and it fixed the issue with the vehicle going into limp mode with a turbo fault. It is far cheaper to just buy this part than the whole turbo! Cheers Drew

      I was wondering about that but was skeptical after reading some online posts about the replacement actuators crapping out. I already bought the new turbo, though. Does it make any sense that an bad PCV valve could leak INTO the turbo or does it just leak ONTO it, not damaging it? Thanks so much! @@DrewFixIt

    Hi, I have oil also in my turbo on my 2008 e320, I thought it was supposed to be like that, also I have an oil leak, don’t see where it comes from but it’s mostly on the drivers side and seems like it starts from top

      @@vadimburda4111 Ok. The turbo intercooler pipes run on that side and it could be that the seals are compromised? Does the car lack turbo boost? Is it spraying a mist back towards the firewall on that side? Is it dripping off the EGR valve? Cheers Drew

      @@vadimburda4111 hey, that car has 2 very common oil leaks. One is the very difficult oil cooler seals... the other, if your lucky,, after 150kmiles or so the oil filter housing. The seals go bad... if you see a lot.of oil on your lower AC lines and compressor and some on your belt, its the filter housing, pretty simpleto do.
      If you see a lot every where including from the back of the motor.. almost looks like from the transmission, that will be your oil cooler and thats a very hard one.

    Hello drew,
    I just change my pcv valve, the car i driving great and have nice response but i am getting really high fuel consumption efter the replacement you have any idea what vent wrong ?
    My air filter on the driver side is have oil marks aswell ( 20% of the airfilter)

      The old pcv was a original i think, it was stuck open wich made the oil leak into the airfilter. The new one is from a brand called trucktek and seem to do the job better but just giving me absurd amount of fuel consumption.
      Any sugestions of what i cal do to fix it ?
      Can oiled up maf sensors make this occur ?

      A little update.
      Just stript the intake butterfly and cleaned it with contact spray and canned air the car is running great and rides nice.. the fuel consumption on highway was back to normal again but when i just stand still and idle its starts going up again
      Any toughts ?

      @@HaiderAli-cd3vt the new PCV valve has a new sensor in the hose from memory. Sounds like you may just need to put some time on it to let the ECU re-calibrate perhaps? Cheers Drew

      @@DrewFixIt Thanks for replying. Quite new, I check the main turbo one often for leaks on to swirl flap motor. The PCV one just seems loose and pushes itself out after a drive 🙂

      @@damian-795 agreed it's not the best design, my suggestion is to replace the little red seal to the PCV valve with a new one. Out of interest does your car have the Y pipe the same as my car or is it the earlier design? Cheers Drew

      @@DrewFixIt Its the same but in a W211 E Class and is the OM642. I just looked that seal today and there is a little notch that was not quite lined up. I think its staying in place now 🙂 , I hope. A good blow on the motorway may push it out again, I will see. Thanks you for your time, if it plays up I will get a new one.

      @@damian-795 Awesome, thanks for the share. BTW when you give it "A good blow on the motorway" it should actually suck it in further as your PCV should close and the turbo will spool up creating a vacuum in that breather hose! Cheers Drew

    Bonjour j’ai acheté cette Vanne PCV(reniflard )parce que mon moteur consomme de l’huile 😔alors que je suis très soigneux tous les cinq milles kilomètres je fais faire remplacer l’huile de moteur.malheureusement depuis 3mois j’ai une surconsommation d’huile moteur 😔e350 cdi om642 l’engin a 255000 kilomètres.a ton avis cette perte d’huile peut venir de vanne PCV (le reniflard)?

      Salut mon pote, merci d'avoir regardé ma chaîne et pour ta question ! Il est toujours difficile de diagnostiquer à distance, mais si votre véhicule n'a jamais eu de changement de PCV, c'est une bonne idée car il est tout à fait possible qu'il aspire l'excès d'huile du carter directement dans l'admission du turbo et consomme ainsi de l'huile. L'autre chose à rechercher est toute autre fuite d'huile, vérifiez sous le capot et également sous le véhicule. Vérifiez également vos autres joints d'admission du turbo !       @ merci pour ra réponse 😊j’ai déjà regardé tes vidéos concernant OM642 c’est vraiment gentil de filmer et et partager ces opérations sont vraiment très utiles.👌concernant la vanne pvc(reniflard) non je pense pas qu’elle a été remplacée car quand je l’avais acheté,elle avait 145000 kilomètres et maintenant elle a 260000 kilomètres. à part ça en 2019 à 190 000 kilomètres le refroidisseur de l’huile a été remplacé car j’avais une grosse fuite d’huile comme tu le sais c’est la maladie principale des om642. sinon, sur les autres organes du moteur, il n’y a pas de transpiration d’huile visible ni en dessous du moteur. Il n’y a pas de trace d’huile. le mois dernier, j’ai fait faire remplacer lacourroie d’accessoires, alternateur etc. par contre j’ai remarqué une chose, c’est que ma voiture consomme beaucoup de gasoil depuis un mois. Je me dis est-ce que c’est pas la vanne PVC qui est responsable également de cette surconsommation gasoil🤔

      @@alidogansoy5650 Salut mon pote, consommation excessive d'huile et de diesel... le véhicule a un kilométrage relativement élevé... il y a tellement de possibilités différentes... question, dans l'historique d'entretien quelle a été la fréquence des entretiens/vidanges d'huile de ce véhicule ? Quelle est la moyenne des kilomètres entre les vidanges d'huile ? Cordialement Drew

      @@DrewFixIt oui mais kilométrage élevé. Disons, j’ai deux copains qui ont la même voiture et leurs e350 cdi ont plus de kilomètres que le mien. Il y en a un 320 000 km et l’autre 350 000 km, et ils n’ont pas de problème de surconsommation d’huile huile et de diesel.🤔 En plus, ils font remplacer l’huile moteur tous les 20 000(vingt mille) kilomètres . alors que moi je remplace l’huile tous les 5000 kilomètres (cinq mille)avec 5/30 castrol c’est-à-dire que la vidange d’huile moteur, 5000 km entre deux vidange, pas plus que ça, je le fais remplacer très tôt

      Hi Mate, we did the EGR in the black ML that sometimes is on the channel a couple of months back, but unfortunately didn’t film it. It was actually really hard to get out, what we did was losses the bolts and drove it with loose bolts for a couple of weeks so it naturally forced itself out. I’m not sure how legit our method was, thus why we didn’t film it! Cheers Drew

      Hi Mohamed, I think that you have to be selective about where you use genuine parts versus Amazon parts. I have had great experience using Amazon (non OEM) parts on my Mercedes, however in this case I deliberately chose an OEM part for the reasons mentioned in this video! My air suspension by comparison is completely Chines parts purchased from Amazon and I have absolutely no issues with my suspension on the vehicle and saved many thousands of dollars by going down this route!     Mercedes have the absolute worst designs and brainless engineering, especially in making general maintenance very difficult and tedious! Twice as much labor and patience is required because of goofy bolt or clip placement making labor very expensive for absolutely no reason. I won't own another because it is so unnecessary in vehicle design and generally it's cost double in parts and labor.
