If I remember correctly, the Silurian hand weapons kind of looked like hairdryers in the last seen iteration, so the Silurian actually might feel threatened by Joy aiming the hairdryer at him 😊
The letter says: "A choice needs to be made. Sitting on this train, that is taking me somewhere new. While I survey the frosted countryside that passes me by, I become aware of the choices that have brought us here, continents apart. Mine and yours. Good and bad, old and new. I am all too aware that every flippant mistake, and every carefully curated choice that we made, culminated in this relationship. As much as I love you, I worry we have outgrown each other. The hairdryer might also be a call to Nine in "Dalek" when he's sorting through some potential weapons and says something along the lines of "Broken, broken, broken, hairdryer..."
Ellie, you are allowed to feel nostalgic about a show you watched and love while growing-up and don't let anyone tell you different! Even though you are quite young compared to some of us oldsters that love your show. 😂
I think the difference between 'lots of songs' and 'a musical' is what role the songs play in the episode. If the characters are telling and interacting with the story via song that's a musical. But if the story itself is about, say, a concert or the like and the Doctor and/or companions needs to perform that's not necessarily a musical even if it contains multiple musical numbers.
Or possibly more like the Guardians of the Galaxy movies where they have a lot of songs, many of them are diegetic, the characters do sing and dance a bit, and the soundtrack is baked into the plot, but they wouldn't be considered musicals
7:25 the hair dryer did mess with the screwdriver in the episode Rose when Jackie was using it when the doctor was trying to stop the hand with the sonic
I feel like the ‘lots of music in an episode’ could be done in a similar style to Guardians of the Galaxy? Maybe the Tardis juke box could be involved?
I love Joy holding the Silurian at "hair dryer point"....😁 (Which you'll notice is not even plugged in) Also, as an aside, as I'm going to be in London over the "festive season", I contacted the BBC to see if the Christmas episode was going to be playing at any theaters or venues. I'm getting the vibes of a Silurian run hotel with rooms to different hotels across time and space (the last digit of the year they go to being the door, 2, 3, 4) and throughout a whodunnit Cluedo style murder mystery as certain people having access to the hotel means they could be anywhere in time and space - anyone we see through each door could be the culprit. Not a fan of the “Colonel Sexy”… if it’s not okay to publicly point out the attractiveness of women, then it’s not okay to do the same for men, much less reduce their characters down to a nickname pointing out their attractiveness.
Interesting analysis. Fingers crossed it will be a good special. Looks good so far. I'm surprised that you didn't take a closer look at the hand-written bit of paper that was picked up along with the copy of Murder on the Orient Express in the segment on the train. My only "problem" (i.e. not a problem, but a preference) with the Silurian design is their eyes and, to a lesser extent, their mouths/teeth. They are just too human for my tastes. Despite the beautifully crafted masks/prosthetics (and they really are very nicely done), the very human-looking eyes and mouths always make this design look too much like a human in a mask rather than an actually different species* to me. It spoils some of the illusion that these are essentially reptiles. I was really disappointed when the Doctor took off the Silurian's war mask in 2010 and the creature underneath had such a human look. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have wanted them to have the (let's be honest) goofy look of the originals but some reptilian contact lenses and lizardy teeth would fix it for me. i.e. same makeup/prosthetics but with the human eyes (and teeth) hidden/replaced. *Yeah, of course I know that in reality they are just humans in makeup. 😋
I could not be less excited. I'm still feeling burned from the god awful Empire of Death and how Russel handled Ruby's arc that its completely soured my enjoyment of new DW. was Basil's comment about knowing two ladies "down that way" a reference to Vastra and Jenny? (I'm not familiar enough with London to know if the place he and the woman were talking about was near where Vastra and Jenny lived.)
Basil is in Manchester, Vastra and Jenny are in London so not the same places. Also Manchester is seen in the 1940s and Vastra and Jenny are in Victorian London
I still think that Mrs Flood is the woman taking Ruby to the Church. The cape, the pointing finger, they just fit... And no one has actually said it was Ruby's mum who dropped her at the doorway.

With the Silurians, the 11th doctor also said that he would give the humans " 1000 years to sort the planet out" im wondering, is this the end of the 1000 years?
Colonel Ibrahim could be a modern day equivalent of Mike Yates in classic WHO. Only, including the dropped romance storyline. Mike and Jo. Ibrahim and Kate.
As someone who is truly old(-ish), I'm going to be that person and wonder if there will be mention of a Jeremiah, who was a bullfrog, in the Catmas special. I hear he always had some mighty fine wine.
Wonder if it ends up being a fly on the wall. Some of the rumours 'flying' around last season did theorize that the doctor was in some kind of tv show within a tv show.
I'm hoping RTD noticed the fan backlash from the Ruby's mom reveal (more so the lead up to the reveal) and decides to dial back the meta plot threads a little. The whole we made her important thing just didn't work for me. Because, speaking of characters to bring back, I'd love to see Mrs. Flood be Clara and Rogue be River in a new body (we've seen The Master do it before, so I think River could too, with help). With The Doctor talking about reconnecting with family like Susan, I think it's a natural choice they'd want to seek out the rest of their family, as well as those they grew close enough to, to consider family. Maybe we'll even see their daughter again. And I'd be kinda heart broken if these characters don't lead up to a cool reveal or connection like that
It's unlikely that RTD will change anything about Season 2 in response to the backlash, considering that filming for this season was completed back in May, when only three episodes of the new season had been released. It's too late to course correct now. When / if the show gets another season after this, maybe then we might see some changes to the structure

When I saw the Silurian, I squealed like a 12-year-old girl at a Backstreet Boys concert 😂 I really enjoyed Madam Vastra’s character and have been hoping for a return. It would be cool if they started bringing past along with the new cast, as they did for 2005's Dr. Who with the classics-some of his companions. Why not Madam Vastra, Pond, River, etc? If budget, schedule, and writing allow.
Also, Neve McIntosh's official Facebook page has posted her as Silurian: Madam Vastra for the past 22 hours. I wonder if this is a clue or if she is just reminiscing. I know she still does the audiobook with Big Finish. I am super excited for Christmas for a whole different reason 😂

i am confused, didnt anyone pick up that the silurian said a phrase and was waiting for a reply, like a spy. Of course he did have a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist.
An episode with lots of music that is not a musical? A planet whose inhabitants communicate through song rather than speech, an old scifi/fantasy trope.
If a male reviewer just refers to a character as miss sexy and not by her name then he would be cancels within minutes nowadays. But just like New New Who, it's all double standards and unintelligent dribble.
Must she keep referring to colonel Ibrahim as "colonel sexy"? I mean fine she clearly wants to jump him but come on. If a male presenter was calling ruby "companion sexy"people would be up in arms. No need to sexualise a character
Exactly thank you! I have said the same thing on a different video and have said it on this one too and will continue to do something till she changes her problematic behaviour
A man would get "cancelled" for it but this is the kind of equality women want - No accountability for them while the other sex has to walk on eggshells.

RTD episodes always get meta and notice when actors are reused (Gwen, Martha, a third one I can’t remember or doesn’t exist)
Jeez, is this program still running?
So no Mrs Flood in the Christmas special? Then why did it snowed during her last scene [mixed sounds of anger, laughter and crying]?!
Is it just me or am I getting the feeling the the moff once rtd2 ends will return as showrun again
Hopefully quickly . RTD is ruining this
Ok, Ellie, I love your shirt. Captain America? Yes, I love the colors I love everything about it! And yes!
1:29 you are correct
Dr Who is in the last chance saloon. This Christmas Special has a lot riding on it….Disney have you got this?
Was the reference to “two ladies” at the start of the trailer a reference to Vastra and Jenny? Was it the right era/area?
Don’t think so - Vastra and Jenny were never based in Manchester to my knowledge
@@danthemeegs8751I think they London cos remember before clara jumped in doctor time stream they said bout her dying with them in London and she also said she was in Victorian London but Victorian Yorkshire’s (or something like that) in the crimson horror
@@markcolgan3262 Deep Breath was definitely in London
@@tacobowler cheers yea I thought they were
That hotel looks like it might have a God Complex
This Looks very interesting. My question will Moffat let anyone stay dead?
Is it me … or is Basil supposed to be the policemen that worked with the Paternoster Gang … ?
I saw the Christmas special trailer and enjoyed it. It looks like a fun episode. I liked the character Joy, can’t wait to see the Christmas special now. After I watch the Christmas special, I’ll be interested in your thoughts.
I'd like to suggest that "Captain America" could be Canadian (or Bolivian, for that matter). I wonder if his last name is Vespucci.
The silurian actor... didn't he play an alien scientist in the end of time parts 1&2?
No it’s not him. It does look vaguely like him though
i am confused, didnt anyone pick up that the silurian said a phrase and was waiting for a reply, like a spy. Of course he did have a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist.
I'll be disappointed if Joy isn't an alien spy herself
Yes, I did notice.
And yes, I’d like that. The lonely wallflower is just an act…….
Lots of... Songs?
Is that the same hotel from 11th Doctor episode "The God complex"?
With all those location changes and [PLACE] [DATE] captions, this felt more Chibnally than Moffaty to me.
Ellie can you stop calling him colonel sexy , if a man was calling a women something like that there would be outrage your setting a bad example this channel is supposed to be kid friendly
Ah, but this is what Modern Equality is all about - Inequality but just in the other direction. Fecking hypocrites and even worse, they can't use the excuse of "times were different back then".
"Packed full of songs"... River Song's?
The hairdryer isn’t plugged in so I doubt it interferes with the sonic 😊
Looking forward to more Kate & Col Sexy!? HELL YEAH!! Preach Ellie!! I need me some Col Kexy or is it Director Sate! Don’t care what couple nickname you give them just make sure they are back on my TV as one! And yeah, I get all the “she’s his boss, thats inappropriate!” hemming & hawing from people BUT I just want to see ol Katie getting hers!😜🫡
His name is colonel ibrahim
All I want for Christmas is my two sequels . . .
Joy will definitely be a third companion in season 3
Here's to hoping her addition happens smoothly
If we get an Irish companion Sean Ferrick will literally explode
