I'm quite new to the game (52 hours played), yesterday I plucked up the courage to be squad leader for the first time, and we won :) I didn't do anything special, just placed down outposts regularly, communicated with my squad, placed down enemy infantry markers, I did mark up a nice bombing run that cleared about 15players out of a trenchline that was relentlessly holding us back. Our squad initiated an insane re-capture of Rudno, we contested it for a good 15minutes just by ourselves, then we managed to take out an enemy garrison, then 2 other squads started to push in and we capped it, it felt so satisfying, especially when the other squad leaders & the commander said "Excellent work Charlie squad" in chat, it gave me goosebumps lol. I am loving the game at the moment, the only thing I dislike about it is the texture pop in/rendering, annoying bushes/trees etc in the distance either appear or disappear when I aim down sights.
My grandpa fought in Hürtgenwald/forest and before that in Russia. Don't know where, he rarely talked about ww2. (only when he was drunk). Almost 80 years later I play a game about his baddest experience. When you think about it and be honest.... This is sick. When I was a kid, he didn't want me to play with my toysoldiers. "Krieg ist kein Spiel" he told me once.
@Clarissa 1986 i get what you guys are saying but at the end of the day this is a game. the war didn't happen so that the game could be made. it's just a game.
Not to disrespect him, he sounds like a wise man, but war is a game, it's just one big chessboard, but only to those who wage it, not those who fight it.
@@complexunity4533 The contours still aren't super accurate though, especially for where buildings are. What they should do is have the regular map at 1x and 2x zoom, but after that add the topo details for small bumps and hill lines
The key issue with concealment in the new maps is that render distance limitations can leave you completely revealed despite being hidden behind solid objects. The legacy maps have objects that are not removed at long render distances which effectively break LOS. If you're on the hill at the windmills looking toward German spawn, you will see infantry behind solid cover, completely unable to damage them directly (HE splash can be effective if the player is aware of the clipping zones of the objects nearby) but they will be fully visible as none of the objects will render. The same is possible from the Russian side of Stalingrad; when in the rubble east of the railyard, nearly all objects are see-through on the German side of the map.
Those tips are right on point. I'm slowly figuring this game out (really slowly!) and these vids are helping. I'm super tired of seeing vids of guys clapping dozens of enemies and running around like it's COD or something. Those are not going to help at all.
Can we talk about how to properly throw smoke. Like smoke the enemy instead of the "path". You can cover more of their view and open up your own. Please spread the PSA
I'm fairly new to the game with about 100 hours and I'm so happy to be learning this info early on instead of later. The amount of times I've won a small battle on maps due to the difference in terrain height is insane. Always remember, having height is the advantage!
Also regarding Kursk, alot of people seem to miss the fact that you can swiss cheese the shit out of the windmills. Just hammer them with MG fire and you'll clear them out in no time ;)
Great video, the smallest terrain height makes such a big difference, it can even protect your tank! Also I'd just like to add that while hiding in a bush may seem obvious, in my experience a lot of players just don't notice while they are charging in and distracted by all the action around them. I've taken out so many people while just standing in a bush.
90% of these tactics can work without a doubt. I play on Xbox Series X and absolutely love this game to death. I quite often use the terrain for cover instead of using other ways of cover
I think one of the things that makes this less obvious is the map. Usually there are markers of height on maps, but not in this game. I think if there were, people would do this much more often.
Nice vid Bud. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. I believe we are all guilty of this at times in HLL. :D
Thanks for this video! It's a great reminder! I was ready doing that a little bit, since I understood the concept, but I'm not sure if I realized just how much of this was built into the maps! It may sound funny, but playing goalie in NHL (hockey) actually helped me to understand this better too, since goalie is all about cutting off angles, and giving them the least amount of area to shoot at as possible LoL
The only grounds for why I wouldn’t go all the distance to the left like in the trench example is that I spend a lot of time running and then just get shot anyway. There is always someone waiting for you no matter where you are
just a quick admin tip,. use the scroll wheel to control your speed. with the admin interface up its a white line under the central 'admin mode' box. nice vid btw :)
I love this game so far on PS5 just hate the grenade glitching n some other minor bugs other than that great game so far I’m addicted to the Officer role
Yes, I know! I actually used that in the video, but I feel like it speeds up faster than it slows down? Like, mouse wheel yo and your darting through the air. Mouse wheel down 5 times? I'm sorry, warp is still engaged.
yeah never count on grass if ppl are far away they dont appear at all, on kursk you can kill ppl from top of the wind mill from far far away (at some point it just flat terrain so only count on topography of the map for the most)
Really new to the game bought it on sale last sat. I actually love this map because of those differences. My job being a surveyor really helps me out here and since everyone usually rushes and throws smokes I go unseen by most. Which translates to pretty decent kills; I’m saying that and I’m a noob lol. With what he just explained I had my highest kill game at 47 and was a major help to the team.
While I completely agree with terrain elevation being the best cover I still disagree with using them on Kursk making the map playable. It's just way too much open ground and people rightfully complain about it. There are way too few viable paths(including the elevation paths) that can easily be covered. Yes, it's a tank map, but so is Foy. But at least Foy is halfway enjoyable as Infantry (unless West Bend is a relevant sector, which absurdly favors Germans). What I love about being officer is that if something doesn't work you can give it a different approach. The approaches on Kursk are so extremly limited, that I end up circling through them, failing over and over again. And yes I'm using elevation as coverage, but it's not enough.
Just a hint, avoid playing kursk map, especially because more and more people seem to use that russian thing that allows you to turn foliage completely off. Nowadays, prone doesn't help anymore.
I don't really. I play on NPA servers 99.9% of the time since I'm usually streaming and get in right away due to my vip slot. I do know a couple of WTH dudes though.

Welcome to the HLL community! You will find many more rewarding moments in the future I'm sure!
Nice, glad to see more players on the battlefield enjoying their time
Rendering at range is something that needs addressing. Especially immersion breaking whilst scoping at ranges over 300m
I hated this game at first but I’m totally hooked now. Such a tense game
Now thst is some details you need

Loved the intro. Kursk is a fantastic map to practice using terrain for cover.
I think Kursk is my favorite map right now.
Monty Python what a classic
It would be nice if they a topographical indicators on the map so you can see where the hills and high points are and plan accordingly
A topological map would make my day
Technically you can if you can read the contours
@@complexunity4533 The contours still aren't super accurate though, especially for where buildings are. What they should do is have the regular map at 1x and 2x zoom, but after that add the topo details for small bumps and hill lines
Even after playing this game, this channel still has stuff about HLL that teaches me more about the game, keep it up man!
I use smoke to make the enemy think I’m coming that way and I crawl up on um a total different way and it works.
It is always better to run an extra mile in the "wrong" direction to get to your destination.
100%
One time i crawled across an entire field and dropped an op under mg fire and it made it sem like we appeared out of thin air

Really good points! I just hope the intro was approved by the ministry of silly walks.
I hope the ministry found it silly enough for their standards!
This intro was so funny, I almost die laughing.
Bruh. I've crawled entire matches on Kursk. Crawled all the way from windmills to enemy arty multiple times lmao.
Before I clicked the video I was like "This better include a reference to Monty Python!" You did not disappoint. A man of culture I see.
I mentioned it on the how to see the enemy video and he directed me directly to this one and I’m clearly not disappointed 😂

You threw me into a Monty Python black hole, I hope you’re happy. Great tips!

Kursk is one of my favorite maps because of how you can use the rolling hills and you need to think differently. Fantastic
Intro was great xD

Monty Python works brilliantly here!

Monty Python sketch at the start has made me sub.

Monty Python was exactly what I was hoping for when I clicked on the video... not even joking one bit
Given the title I was hoping for possibly an oblique Monty Python, and got much more than that!
The ONLY right choice of intro :D
The intro alone got a Sub from me. Love this sketch.
Loved that intro. Huge fan of python 🤣
Overall your hint is right, but you forget one problem, tanks. The gunner is 1 step higher and the tank commander even 2 steps higher.

how do I spectate to check the map like that?
Can you do a vid on best camoflage uniforms for genral use and map specific clothing, Please.
this is relative because of texture loading , on kursk i can always see when the germans try to sneak in the grass
Especially when scoped over 300m, they just look like they’re crawling over open plain
I loved the Monty Python clip and my in game name is Mrs.Nessbit lol
I wish they would add a topographical map in lasted of what it is now. Like topographical or terrain

You absolutely can rely on grass. Ive been prone in a wheat field and watched 3 full squads and 2 panthers roll by within a few feet.
Agreed. That was terrible advice Mono.
Ahhh, reminds me of Lt. McMillan
He said from a distance, when grass doesn’t render correctly.
I don't see how a wheat field is defending the grass concept but ok
