    Hi Martin we think this is one of your best. The bumper repair was a great match. We noticed the gang have returned teasing us with another vehicle in the background but we can't think what it is. All the best from Ian b & family.

    Nice & neat job Martin on the Landrover & trailer, really like the color choices, using a match stick a great idea for a bumper, the dog in the back 👍, wish I could help on what is a good set of brushes , I’m not sure of the maker of the brushes, I try to go for fine bristle for detail work it cost a little more but well worth it. Have a great week Martin, take care my friend, see ya on your restoration.

    Hi Martin really clever idea for the bumper with the matchstick a good way to get rid of the grain might be to cover it with super glue and rub it down before painting. The paint looks a good match and old Cuthbert must be happy with the job even if you wont let him lean on one cheek to let one go lol.🤣🤣. The first diecast I ever did was a zephyr 6 and I used a bit of metal strip from a windscreen wiper to make a new one looked ok I saved a bit of money anyway. LOL the MRS just saw me write that last line and yelled out and then you spent it on something else lol. 🤑 Been on Christmas tree duty today decorating the tree and spending hours fun untangling the lights and finding blown bulbs. It was a warm one here today got up to 33 I'm not looking forward to the hot weather over Christmas over here it usually gets up in the 40-45 range hot enough to fry an egg on the bonnet of a car lol.🍳 Catch ya on the next one mate.👍

    You asked us at 7.14 to remind you about the washers. Is this a good time??
    I think they are to space the hubs off the chassis to stop those Supertoy tyres binding. Having many times left something out or fitted the wrong way round etc, I now M2 tap and screw all my baseplates. Also useful when you have to go back in to adjust those troublesome working parts (eg Batmobile) or redo a dodgy paint job. This can however lead to hours of extra fun when you snap your tap off in the post. My remedy is to cut off the post leaving a stub, a drinking straw as a former, JB Weld filler, leave a week to cure fully and the re-drill and tap. Also works for when you drill your post off centre. I am a fully paid up member of that club too!
    PS What is your fix for loose Kingsize tyres? I can't work out if the hubs shrink or the tyres expand over the years. I use black Starbond Superglue. Can be messy and I wonder if there is a better way?

    • @martindaredare
      @martindaredare  2 роки тому

      Hi Patrick, yes the washers were ment to be spacers but I have noticed over a period of time doing these restorations that the repo tryes are a bit thinner then the originals i assume that the metric equivalent to the original imperial size comes up that bit narrower. So no need for them .you are right about using screws for things like batmobiles and 007 castings. It is definitely handy for that .
      I haven't done many king size matchbox as yet but I do have a few that I will have to do shortly, I have been reliable informed that you can use insulation tape around the hubs then warm the tryes up and this apparently works though I have yet to try this ,its the hubs that shrink.
      Thanks for your comment its great 👍.
      All the best martin 👍

    A handsome piece of work, but one thing is missing; the sign on the back of the trailer. The rectangular black plate with the white 'T' on it, in real life there would have been small 'cats eye' reflectors on the T so that it showed up at night. In period these signs were a legal requirement on trailers, and there was one on your trailer before you started the restoration. What I am not so sure about is whether the sign on your trailer was an original Dinky inclusion or had been added by a later owner. Either way I think that it looked good, but its your model and you might disagree with me.

    Another great restoration. Nice to see you did both the Rover and the trailer at the same time. I've got two or three of these to do up but not one driver or windshield frame. I will buy one of each and copy them. That Blue Stuff and Milliput will work great for the drivers. I just need the right gauge of tin for the windshields.

    That's a beautiful restoration Martin, it looks really good in Rover Vermilion. I think those old Land Rovers had a PTO gearbox on the back that owners could put, either a winch, or a belt pulley on for driving various farm machines. Talking of paint brushes, I was watching you paint your wooden bumper and thought I must ask you where you buy your brushes from, and then you asked viewers for advice. LOL 🤣🤣 I was also wondering what you clean your brushes with because nothing seems to be successful for me . Looking forward to next weeks video. All the best. Peter.
