Restoration of Dinky Toys Morris Mini-Traveller No. 197. Die-cast model spring, model repair.

The Mini Morris Traveler model was produced in 1961 by the famous English company Dinky. This car was, in fact, iconic among models. It was painted in different colors, I kept the original light blue. My copy required thorough cleaning, softening of old rubber tires and polishing of the glass. I used an ultrasonic cleaner for this. I packed the model in a replica of my own box, just like the original.

When I worked in a factory, the cleaner would clean the toilets with caustic soda. Usually he put a warning notice on the door prior to flushing. Well, this one day he forgot. I ended up with an asshole like the Japanese flag!

Beautiful finish to a great little car, well done Paul. Back in the mid 60's when I got into a mini for the first time it felt like getting into a fairground bumper car! But they were fun to drive. Stay safe.

Yes, Chris. I bought my first mini in 1982. I cant believe how small they are, compared to all the beefy looking minis of today! Mine was a 1978, and I paid £1000 for it, which was a lot then. I think they were £4000 new at the time. Mine was nearly mint, and I had it six years, before I wrapped it around a parked Bedford Luton van, because I wasn't looking where I was going ! A sad day.

Beautiful restoration Paul , l think they used to call this the Mini Countryman. My dad used to have one of these when he became a Television Engineer, then he had a mini clubman estate which l can still remember the registration N°- KAE 191L ... That was back in 1973 all those years ago

Actually an Austin Mini Countryman: identical to the Morris apart from badging and the grille. Our first family car was Fiesta Yellow with blue interior and the Austin badges: I used to help my Dad scrape the varnish off the wood, before repainting it, every summer!
