This Foden looks so good now at every angle Martin. Those barrels are looking like the icing on the cake. Oh, and that's enough barrels to tell the story, it's on the last delivery of the day. What's left on board is what the pub ordered!
One of my favorite dinky supertoys. The combination of the stakes, chains, color and most of all what you can imagine the foden could be transporting within the chains, like barrels! Great restoration Martin, thank you for doing this for us.
So sorry I did not watch this video but just did again very nice work as always very nice grill always love the grills on the older ones trucks thanks 👍 Lee
Cheers Mark, my old grandad was a lorry driver, rope and sheet type, he used to take me with him now and again, It's flipping hot 🔥 and supposed to get hoter at the weekend . All the best martin 👍
Hi Martin, love your restoration of this Foden Truck with white metal barrels. I love these little trucks. I have a number of Dinky trucks that I purchased over time restored. You have done a great job with this truck. Thanks for your video
Fantastic job Martin l really like these older Dinky trucks, they always look the business. Top colour choice, the barrels just set the tone. Again well done my friend. Take care Chris 👍🏻🍻🇦🇺🎯
Hello Martin another great restoration l think that they made these some with silver chains and some with gold colour chains hope you and your family are keeping well regards Glyn
That's a beautiful restoration of a great model, Martin. The way you make your models look so authentic, just like the real thing, with your detailing is superb. The paint colour looks perfect. I have a new Atlas Dinky Toys version of this Foden truck, the original ones tend to make more than I can afford at the moment. Looking forward to next week's video. All the best. Peter.
Thanks Peter, iam afraid thy are expensive I have backed out of many an auction because it got to rich for me . The atlas ones are very smart and are a good source for spares because thay are a lot cheaper. I know your busy this time of the year peter so take care .
@@martindaredare Hi Martin, I've injured my back again, really bad this time. My eldest son is picking the courgettes after his work as I'm now unable to do them myself. I've given them to him. I think I might not be able to carry on with the farm and be forced to retire, a little earlier than I expected. Maybe I'll be able to get busy with some restorations again soon. (Every cloud has a silver lining) 😁
Iam sorry to hear that Peter, I did my back in a few years ago , thinking I was still a young man , so very careful with it now ,it will mend Peter just be mindful when doing stuff , it maybe a good thing that you take early retirement its the best thing I ever did . Onwards and upwards my friend
So well done, Martin. My favourite parts are the barrels, which have a very realistic finish, and the front grill after your highlights. Big thumbs up from Switzerland - Andrew 🍁👍
nicely done, again. :) interesting way to keep the flatbed in place, too. :) and once again I notice that UK trucks back when were much more "designed" than continental ones, which often looked more pragmatic if not ugly. then again if you dish out copious amounts of money for a new truck it better looks like something, yes? :)
The problem with that design of attaching the bed it makes the cab week especially with heavy play use . Yes you definitely need to get value for money. All the very best martin 👍
Hi Martin that turned out beautiful it's a shame we don't see these old grand lady's still on the road today the trucks I mean not old lady oh anyway.🙄 Back in the 80s🦕🦖 when I got my truck licence I got a job working with a bloke who transported crates of soft drink. We were rumbling down the road and hit a big bump all of a sudden there was a loud pop, pop, pop, pop. One of the full crates of drink fell of and the bottles were exploding on the road. I was supposed to learn the ropes so that eventually I would take over the truck and do the job myself. I soon realised the bloke just wanted someone to do all the heavy lifting so I threw it in after six months and went and worked for my brother in his crash repairs. I hear you are getting some hot weather over there it's absolutely brass monkey🐵 weather over here at the moment to cold to take the MG out. Hopefully it will warm up a bit soon about 25 is just about right but it's been 12-15 here.🥶 Catch you on the next one mate.👍
It happens some times, when you get used and abused 🤣 it used to happen alot back in the day . Yep the sun is out and it's flipping hot ,us britts aren't used to it 25/27 that's to hot for us mind you it saves me from cutting the grass 😉 . Stay warm my friend you aren't getting any younger 🙂, I hit 65 in the bigging of August. Well all the best to you both
I love these old 8-Leggers by Dinky - such individual detail on the cabs across the range. I've seen AEC, Foden and ERF, I think, but there was a later Leyland as well, wasn't there? I did a couple years ago but have no idea what happened to them, and they'd not have been finished nearly as well as yours, for sure, so no real loss. I still have some of the Hauliers of Renown, which were a bit newer and more detailed, but much more delicate... Lovely job on that red one - looks perfect, and the accessories make it really pop!
Thanks fraser, the one your thinking about is the Leyland octopus thay came as drop side, flat bed and chains and two tankers, the bp/shell one is the most expensive to buy . I hope you find yours at some point. All the best martin 👍
That looks really gorgeous Martin, love the red, it really stands out! The barrels on the back look so realistic, so beautifully done, you have such a talent making things look real, the whole thing looks amazing 👌👍😊 It’s good timing too, as I am in the middle of doing a Foden too, but one of the back mudguards is broken and I see those on your model are solid where they flare out at the back, I wasn’t sure if the tyres would rub if I made it solid as it must be the older model, but seeing yours has answers my question 😊👍 Take care all the best, Nick.🐸🐸🇯🇪
Hi nick I hope your getting better, iam pleased you liked this one ,and it helped you solve your problem, thay can be tricky to get the thickness right so the tryes don't rub ,but you can do it 😀. All the best martin 👍
I’m new to the Dinky Code 3 scene, and only just found out that the toys I played with as a child are collectible and popular. I just bought my first Dinky Foden flatbed (like this). Are the barrels just o-scale model train accessories? This video is truly inspiring and informative at the same time. So thank you Martin! : )
It's a 1954 Foden 8 Wheeled Flatbed Lorry . Many English vehicles are endemic to the Commonwealth, we don't see them elsewhere than in your country and your colonies. It's a bit of a shame, because the English automotive industry was very prolific and some models would have no trouble selling them elsewhere, because their design at the time was desirable, yesterday as today. But some models we still managed, Like the Austin and Morris Mini a very iconic English car or the Morris Garage Vanden Plas Princess 1100/1275/1300, Triumph Spitfire (my english dream car ) , Mg B , Austin Healey or Rover branded cars .
Cheers Frédéric, I think that's one of the reasons dinky made models in France, but unfortunately now French dinkys are really hard to get over here and thay did some great models, but postage and VAT kills it . The triumph spitfire is a great car ,becoming very popular with the full size restorers. My favourite is the GT 6 Thancks for your continued support my friend its much appreciated 👍
Great work Martin, I do have quite a few of these myself. Nice work with the details on the grill, always the tricky bit but you make it look effortless. Where do you get the barrels from, I have some but could do with some more.
Hi Gordon thanks very much, I used the hycote brand of paint , ford burgundy red 2097A , you can get it from a shop called the range or a moter savers, halfords of course do there own brand but will probably have this colour, the hubs were any red I had to hand . All the best martin 👍
Martin, I really like the deep red paint , the details are great on this model, and I like the way you did the barrels, very realistic 👍I enjoyed the restoration on the Foden flatbed. Martin I have a few questions to ask , I purchased some matchbox King size from a flea market , a Dodge tractor trailer dumper, with a extra trailer dumper & a pipe truck tractor trailer also with a extra trailer, (2 ) wide orange colored trailers,(they are in good condition). Are the tire sizes in metric? & if the tires are kinda loose fit for the model how can I remedy this problem?, or just get all new tires ? Also do I need to get a metric hole template in order to the correct size tires for the particular model? Most of the tires are not cracked or brittle, but missing quite a few of them. I don’t think I did bad on price on these pieces either Martin, (1 US dollar a piece, ).I hope I wasn’t being too long winded 😆🤣😂hey my friend , take care & stay well, see ya on your next restoration.👋😎🚙🚗🚛🚕
Hi Jeff, the trye sizes are a bit of a mixture of imperial and metric, most reproduction tryes if thay were originally imperial then thay make them to the nearest mm , a gauge is hand to give you the best chance of the size ,model supplies do the correct sizes for the different vehicles, regards lose tryes you can super glue them on ,or put some insulation tape around the hub then put the trye on and trim the tape . It's a matchbox failure some say the hubs shrink and some say the trye expands , .I have quite a few matchbox with a similar problem, I might do a short video, when I have all the information. I hope this helps Jeff. All the best martin 👍
🤣🤣 OK iam smiling to myself, been told of again, I do look forward to your comments and seriously appreciate them all joking aside. All the best martin 👍
