Hey Mitzi! I hope you are able to one day check out this location! My recommendation would be to visit in the off season, otherwise you may encounter many sun bathers and beach goers!
LOL! I do have an assortment of shell bags, but generally I go out without the intention of collecting but rather just showing what I find to my camera(hence why shells are always in my hand!)
So lucky!! I finally took myself to the beach after 15 years… hadn’t been since I was 15.. my most prized possessions of that day are 2 baby olives and tons of broken shark eyes
Hi Brittany, my parent's took me to Miami Beach when I was 12 years old and that's what really started it all for me. I found a few beat up shells in the trough where the waves hit the sand - this was 25 years ago. Thanks for coming along on the adventure and I hope you are able to find time to get to the beach in the future!
@@solaceinshelling6552 I used to vacation all the time as a kid in Fort Lauderdale.. I actually have a few from my last trip there at 14-15 and a absolutely gorgeous sand dollar that my brother found for my mom

The shell you can’t identify looks like an apple snail. However, apple snails in Florida are found in marshes or canals so I am also curious. Loved all the shark eyes/moon snails.
I recently found a Welk that was almost as big as my hand at Gilgo Beach. A little damaged on the underside but it is the best sea shell I have ever found! ~Regina~

Is this the same in the summer months? I'm planning on going there soon for a Saturday and don't want to waste hours driving there if not. And is there parking?
Hi friend, this was filmed at the entrance to the national seashore. There's plenty of parking, but I would imagine it would be very busy during the summer months with everyone from Long Island and New York City accessing the beach. You can walk eastward down the beach and it gets pretty remote - most beach goers will set up shop on the beach access nearest parking. Happy shelling!

Hello! I think you are right. These snails definitely have a thinner shell and look like a freshwater snail, but yeah not sure how they arrived where they did!
Hey Jenni! I think you may be referring to the Yellow and White thin snails here... it looks like they actually might be freshwater snails called Apple Snails! How they ended up on a beach like this is beyond me! I believe Tun shells are more exclusive to warmer water regions, but you never know what will wash up!

There appears to definitely be traces of garnet in this sand in some places - which gives it the reddish hue! 💙

I think its not a Moon snail, its an Apple Snail. Its a fresh water/marshes snail. Maybe come to beach thanks a storm or a river.
