    That was really enjoyable. I like that your discerning about what to take and what to leave. And I love seeing all the shells and learning their names. I so like the combo of a chatty beach walk and then just music. What a great location for tropical shells and solace. Our beaches are crowded tourist hot spots. I envy your quiet alone time on the beach. At about 12:41 I saw a beautiful circular coral. Would be cool if you showed us that kind of thing as well, even if you don't collect it. I'd be stoked to find a helmet and some coral. Just wow!

Seems like they very rarely make it onto the beach without being totally busted. It's interesting how you observed that there were more gastropod than bivalves shells on that beach. beautiful beach. thanks for taking us along this beach walk and for the display of beautiful shells. What great finds! I like your careful consideration of collecting. As beautiful as these beaches are, do you ever get concerned being in such remote areas and how do you find these places?

    • @solaceinshelling6552
      @solaceinshelling6552  2 роки тому +2

      Hello friend! An interesting point you raise around the potential hazards of remote places... all of my episodes from Puerto Rico were filmed on a 4 day trip I made there last August(there were a couple days that I shelled and filmed at 3 different spots, all in one day). In regard to safety, I would say it is absolutely a top concern...one slip on a rock a mile away from my car with no one around and I might be in trouble. I am cognizant of the dangers that may lurk, but always try to plan ahead as best that I am able. With that said, there is always some element of risk involved.
      As for finding locations: For places that are a first time visit, I usually rely on some Google Earth research, well in advance to scout "potential" spots that may yield treasures, and that also would be scenic and make for good footage... perhaps a bit unorthodox, but seems to work for me most of the time!

    @Solace in Shelling..May I ask what area you’re in, in Puerto Rico? We’re considering going for our 31st Anniversary and we are avid sheller’s. Hello! So this was a region called Punta Tora, as far as I am aware there were really no other landmarkers. I will say this spot is extremely rugged and was very hard to traverse because of the rocky coastline, so if you do venture out exercise caution! Most of the shelling I did while in PR was by utilizing Google Earth to see what places might look promising(generally resort beaches are NOT the best, haha)
      For me, shell collecting is all about the journey, and I'm a proponent of the philosophy that it's more beneficial to learn "how to shell", over relying on tips about "where to shell". Beaches often change, tides and weather, and of course luck are all variable components. In the Caribbean, one thing I have found helpful, is to look for spots that have cobblestone or coral fragments - from my personal experience, I have had the best luck at those type of locations.
      Some of the more easily accessible locations where you may find good luck shelling here - Punta Tuna lighthouse and nearby beaches, Fajardo area beaches, La Natural Zanja.
      Thanks for watching, and good luck on your trip!

    We are in Puerto Rico right now (August 6, 2022). Please give us the names of beaches where we have the opportunity to find some seashells. Looking for places where "shells can be trapped."

    • @solaceinshelling6552
      @solaceinshelling6552  Рік тому +2

      Hello! There's a few places I could recommend but please exercise caution - some of the locations are very remote and are difficult to traverse because of slippery rocks and coral.
      With that said, you can try the rock beaches around Punta Tuna lighthouse - these are pretty easily accessed and I had some luck finding Helmets there. There is also a beautiful rock/coral beach on the Reserve land at Punta Viento(this is also very remote). I should also say that there's no magic place where shells can be guaranteed. However, any place where there are rocks or coral debris, would be the most ideal to find treasures. Such spots can be found commonly in PR!
      Please be safe and have fun.
      Happy shelling!

    • @fishandfloral

      I can only speak to my experience - I have been to a few places in the Caribbean throughout the past few years including PR, TCI, Jamaica and some of the islands in the Lesser Antilles and I have never had any issues bringing back dead shells, sea glass etc. With that said, one should never remove any live molluscs from their habitats, and most importantly, to remain mindful of and adhere to any specific local laws where you are visiting. Happy Shelling!

      Speaking candidly, I used to collect everything I could find when I was much younger. A growing understanding of nature through the years helped me to learn balance much better.
      Thank you so much for watching!

    Lift the sea grass. Shells get trapped under it

    I’ll be in Puerto Rico shortly and I didn’t wanna learn anything about the shells there because I like to discover “new” things. Might have to stop watching

      Hello friend! Unabashedly, this is also how I prefer to shell and explore beaches... just get out there, experience it, and see what you can find! It's the best way 😃
