Rico performed here a master acting role, when he heard she began moving in the car he didn't even care for the shooters threatening his life. The expression on his face and the gasping for air was uncomparable in acting history. Well done PMT
One of my favorite episodes ever! One of my favorite scenes is earlier in the episode when Tubbs is sitting at his desk, thinking back to when he first met Angelina, and when his brother was killed, all while Roger Daltrey's "After the Fire" plays in the background. Man, I love that scene!
The thing about Miami Vice is the vibe. You either get it, and enjoy it, or you pick apart every last inconsequential detail until nothing’s left. Yes, there are unintentionally silly moments, illogical plot points, and numerous things that haven’t held up over 35 years, but if you’re willing to look past these hiccups, you will appreciate some of the finest, coolest, and grittiest police drama of its time, and of all time.
It was a new style of show at the time, lots of experimentation and really innovative, sure there was some silly mistakes here in there but they're forgiveavable given the great storylines etc. Those little things would be emulated and improved upon in later shows and movies or avoided altogether if it was too cheesy or unrealistic
I haven't watched Miami Vice since I was 12, and just watched 6 videos on this channel, and 6 were cars exploding while either Crockett or Tubbs were crying out in anguish. And then then the guy that blew up Crockett's car with a rocket launcher. And this had a car, and a shack and bad guys exploding. 10/10.
The look on Tubbs's face at 5:55 is so sad. This (my favorite), episode still breaks my heart. The astounding part is, he was evil enough to kill Angelina, his own half sister. And Ricardo never knows his son is still alive. Thank you again for posting...
You know they never really followed up with what happened with Tubb's son. They missed a great oppurtunity to carry on with this story arc, also aside from the Season 3 episode The Afternoon Plane this storyline with Tubbs vs the Calderones is never revisited. This missed a golden oppurtunity to capitilize on this popular episode. Maybe Mann & Hammer leaving midway on season 3 put the kibosh on that. Mann's replacement Dick Wolf made the show resemble more of a template for his upcoming Law & Order franchise thus losing Miami Vice it's original look.
@@asifkhan4822 ~ I've said the same thing many times, about wasting a great storyline. The last season could have had Tubbs's finding out he's still alive, and looking for him. Then the series finale reuniting Tubbs's with his son. Would have been perfect...
The followup episode showed two caskets at the burial service for Angelina. I think it was a continuity error though as the infant was apparently safely away from the scene before the shooting erupted.
Ever since the first time I saw this scene I thought the same but instead what I think would be even better and more epic would be if Tubbs meets his grown up son Rico, Jr. and his son goes on the hunt for Calderone, Angelina's brother, to continue the saga and exact revenge for the murder of his mother to make the score even. Wish this episode would happen in the new Miami Vice Fall series about to take place this year.
@@EmeraldJade66 That would be the perfect premise for a revival of this series if it ever happens. Even a TV movie like the recent Nash Bridges one would be perfect IMO.
An all time Miami Vice classic, the music from Jan Hammer in the scene where Tubbs drives up to see a tied up Angelina in car -revisting the earlier music from the opening is amazing. The music by Jan Hammer that plays at 3-4 points in the episode is an updated version of the track from The Home Invaders episode from season 1. But it is definately used much better here against what is one of the best episodes in the show's history. This was actor John Leguizamo's first onscreen role as villian Orlando Calerone who is looking for revenge on Tubbs.for the death of his drug dealer father.
This truly was a classic episode. And at the funeral, Phil Collins “Long Way to Go” was perfect for that scene. But I’ve always been confused about this; didn’t Sonny shoot Calderone? I’m kind of blurry on the episode.
Very intense scene. I got this series for Christmas last year and just now got around to watching it. Whenever someone shouts no like that you, know that someone's about to die in a horrible way. Tubbs really drew it out. The look on his face at 5:55 almost wrecked me. I love how Sonny is hiding in Tubbs's car so the bad guys don't see him. The look of utter devastation on Tubbs's face after the bombing was so heart-wrenching. The shack explosion was very impressive.
Tubbs Jr. died in that explosion. Makes zero sense to just kill Angelina but not the baby they made. That poor infant is the metaphor of betrayal to that brother
Nah! I believe the opposite that Rico Jr. although raised by Calerone pretends to be one of them but instead years later when he's older exacts revenge on Calderone by killing him when he least expects it for the death of his mom Angelina.
Hard to tell 100 percent, but I believe Sonny’s gun is a Mac 10. Note that he supports the gun from the rear. These guns are dangerous to your left hand and were intended to be used with suppressor or extension(one of the bad guys is using an extension). Sonny uses his left hand on the rear of the frame for close work.
I have to say that (after re watching full Miami vice episodes for the nth time) performances were not the best, there were some illogical disjointed moments, some shootings were childish and so on... Still, it remains one of the best shows from the 80s. Mostly because of the vibe.
This episode of Miami Vice left open a very feasible possibility for a reunion movie. What if Billy Crockett followed his father's footsteps and became a police officer and ended up encountering Ricardo Jr. in a same yet different way Crockett and Tubbs first met in 1984 (a couple of punches and a weapon drawn)?
After that bomb went off, Benny Blanco from the Bronx and his 2 friends had 6 stars. Whole Police department on the offensive, a rocket launcher, they probably continued to shoot after that too lol
When I saw her trying to get loose, I shouted "No wait!" When the bomb went off, I was saying quietly."No...." for myself. Can't believe she died. Rest in peace, Angelina.
@CahynJackson: She knew that there was no way our for her and that their baby was safe. She freed herself and hit the horn to set off the bomb on purpose to give her man a fighting chance.Tubbs would never know that...
She was mid, most men don’t find her attractive. And she was a horrible actress and glad to see she got killed off. She must’ve been one of the producers daughters she had zero talent.
In this episode, Orlando Calderone seeks revenge for the death of his father. Considering that it was Crockett who killed Estebán Calderone at the end of Calderone's Return (Part II), it does not completely follow that Orlando would put a price on Tubbs's head and not on Crockett. A similar inconsistency arose in "Calderone's Return", where Estebán Calderone had Crockett on his hit list - although it was Tubbs who arrested Calderone at the end of the pilot episode Brother's Keeper and almost shot him point blank with a double barreled shotgun.
What is crazy is I think Orlando and Angelina were siblings if memory serves me right (it's been a while since I've seen the whole episode). Pretty dark stuff..
@Stefano Pavone Dick Wolf had an uncredited role as the homicide detective that informed them about the witness in the original trial that put Hackman on death row, Albiero's death in the ep. titled "Forgive Us Our Debts" (S-3, 1986.) "You guys are from Vice, right?! You eaten yet? (Sonny & Rico shake their heads) Good! I wouldn't wanna ruin your appetites." I think he also had a very small uncredited role as the hired hitman in Bruce Willis's acting debut in the Vice ep. "No Exit" (s-1, 1984) - when Sonny flashed his shield at him and said, "Go on...beat it!" before he met the flustered and scared wife of Willis's character, arms dealer Tony Amato.
I personally think Forgive Us Our Debts and Down For the Count part 2, were the last truly great episodes of Vice. But Season 2 is certainly the last great SEASON of the series
