    In this video I fit a new DC Motive top yoke and a GPS speedo to my project cafe racer CB750.
    Here's a link to DC Motive, I highly recommend you check their parts out: dcmotive.com/products
    Now that I have the engine running well enough to have at least a shake down ride I need to finish some of the other things that are needed before I can actually get on it and go. These include the brakes and a leak from the oil line, but also the electrics, which all work, but need to be made weatherproof and secure. But before I can do that I want to change the speedo and top yoke.
    I always had a single clock in mind, one that combines the speedo and rev counter. I think that this will make the front end look much cleaner and less cluttered. The gauges that are fitted are on a bracket that attaches to the original yoke for the bike. It has been improved but still has a lot of the mounting holes for the bars etc.
    A company called DC Motive had seen our videos online, and got in touch to offer us one of their top yokes and a speedo for our build. I had seen them online before but hadn’t really got to the stage where I was needing to decide on the speedo or top yoke. Having taken another look I could see that they would be perfect for my bike, so I accepted their offer gratefully.
    The top yoke is machined from billet and is as clean a design as I have seen. I didn’t want the slabby looking yokes that most custom ones seem to have. This one has curves and looks OEM plus. They have a variety of finishes and I wanted to stick to polished aluminium for this bike which was one of the options.
    The speedo is a single clock with the main sweep being the speed in MPH. The thing that really makes it great for me is that it also has a needle rev counter that is towards the bottom of the clock face. I am not overly worried about chasing the red line on this bike but I do like to know what the engine is turning at, so having the more discrete rev counter will work great for me. This along with idiot lights for the main beam and indicators makes it ideal for me.
    They also sent the right bracket for the clock to fit with the new top yoke. Although it does come with a fixing to secure it to a custom bracket if that was required. I really like the whole set up.
    Wiring the clocks is quite easy as there is a good length on the wires and they are all labelled so you know what to connect them to. The other clocks didn’t have this and took some time to work out. I covered the visible part of the wiring with some braided hose, secured with some heat shrink, so it matches in with my other wiring.
    The speedo is a GPS one, so doesn’t require the standard speedo cable that goes down to the front wheel. The pick up needs to be able to see the sky to work best and at first I thought this would be a problem. However there is a machined part on the front of the bottom yoke on my bike where it will fit really well.
    There are a few settings you can change on the clocks. Including setting the mileage of the bike, making the rev counter match the type of ignition system you have, and even a buzzer to warn you if you are speeding. I set this to 150MPH, I probably won't hear it that often :)
    Once I had the clocks wired in I tested them, using it as an excuse to run the engine :)
    Everything works great.

    That yoke and speedo look great! I think you might have convinced me to go with that combo instead of the stock yoke and Motogadget Chronoclassic i was looking at. The yoke and clock combo is cheaper than just the clock from motogadget. Ill probably go with handlebars instead of clipons though.

      I'm really thrilled with yoke and speedo. They really set off the front of the bike, and I think their pricing is suprisingly good! Good luck.

    "Nice machined part" HA! I need that spot for my stock front brake switch. ;)
    If you're not using a tacho cable, what did you use to fill the hole on your valve cover? Custom cap for that?

    • @SPANNERRASH
      @SPANNERRASH  4 місяці тому

      Not sorted the tacho feed yet. But the brake switch spot looks tailor made for the GPS module. I don't need it for the brake switch witht the modern master cylinder, with the modern brake switch under it.
