Love that you added a non-example too! So important to see the difference versus just "Oh here's the instruction and here's someone performing it perfectly". Thanks!

Holy crap! Well done! You are talking about the EXACT stuff I've been informing folks of.
I see too many OHs coming in from the outside, and almost parallel to the net/facing the right sideline, and will still proceed to hit angle into a block that is taking angle and sharp angle, but with about two feet of open line to hit. That IMO, just narrows their hitting window/cone. I even see DeFalco and Russell from the USMNT pull that stunt.
The explanation of rotating your shoulders and NOT doing that cross body 'arm punch' type swing is EXCELLENT!
One thing I was taught that could also help, is starting your approach with your left foot on the sideline....a straight in, or even inside out approach.

So I wonder, would you advise players to land on one leg, whenever they hit a line shot? I've always been taught to land on both feet to keep the impact on the knees and the risk of injury low.

Malte Schmidt That’s what I was wondering. Everything I’ve every studied and read has said that landing on one leg can promote injuries to that leg. I believe this is why a lot of coaches are now teaching you how to hit with the other arm as well for at least a small portion of practice, because what I see here is that she came in too close to the setter, forcing her to lean her upper body back away from the setter to get the same angle on the ball, thus resulting in her landing on one foot. I can agree with the hip orientation, but it has been found that at high levels of play, most injuries occur to the opposite leg, most likely because they have to stretch like the player in this video, resulting in a one-legged land, putting more strain on this leg. I see how she has twisted her upper body more in the first example, resulting in a ball out of bounds, and perhaps the mental stimulus of keeping that hip towards the cross angle is better, but not clearly evident here (her left leg is out front, but I don’t know if we can say the same about the hips) and the one leg land is more likely to cause problems, I think

as a coach myself it is 100% possible to land on both feet when hitting cross body line shots and you should definitely learn to. His technique in this video is focused largely on the lower body of the athlete in their approach, the important part is to keep your shoulders open to the setter in order to give your setter a bigger hitting window. Cross body line shots are determined by your follow-through, you should be trying to slap your opposite side hip (if you're right handed you should be trying to slap your left hip).

Coach how about to improve the swing of the arm? I wanna hit faster I'm not that strong and I'm just 5'6 but I can spike. I kinda always get dig out by the receivers because my spike ain't that fast.

he’s a great coach, but please never ever teach hitters to land on one foot without proper strength training unless you want acl injuries
