Thanks for your great video. Much appreciated! 😍
We really appreciate you too Elysia ❤
I took advantage of your -20% discount to buy the first version just before the release of the Neo. I was surprised by the release of the Neo but I don't regret at all having bought the first version of the XPressor which I find exceptional.
That said, I couldn't hear the difference between the first version and the Neo. Maybe because of UA-cam, maybe because of my ears... I don't know.
I notice that unlike a plugin, we know immediately when we compress too much, it jumps out at us. XPressor 1 and 2 behave the same at this level.
One thing that is certain is that I love the XPressor.
My next Elysia will be the NVelope 500, probably the best tool on the market for working on transients.
Keep doing what you are doing you are awesome!
@@Kihilbill is the disccount still available?
Elysia continues to be the most underrated company making AMAZING quality gear.
No offense but I got to disagree with you about that. Every self respecting musician / audio nerd who takes his/her/ or whatever art seriously surely does know Elyisa and the top quality craft man ship what that company delivers...Have a good day sir.
@@sivutietuote it just seems to me like they don’t get the shine that some other top brands get, especially for their more affordable options. Sure, everyone knows the Alpha Compressor and MusEQ are top notch. But Karacter, Nvelope, and Xpressor also shine for very reasonable prices. Have a great day.
I can only speak for myself, of course, but I’ve never “underrated” Elysia, or any of the processor models that they make.
Come to think of it, Elysia has always been held in high regard by other engineers/colleagues that I know; and recognized as a manufacturer of stellar audio processing.
FWIW
They are flying off the shelves after that demo my friend. Such a great variety of mixes just by changing the xpresser|neo settings It seems very surgical in nature but also forgiving, a lot of warmth to it, almost tube like. Thanks for the introduction Wytse.
This video made me realize that I should use the mpressor plugin more often lol. Negative ratio, autofast and different release curves are some of the most useful features I have ever seen in a compressor.
Yep, fairly impressive demo. Thanks for using it so effectively for us to hear!
Very much glad to see this video! Own the original, happy to get an explainer of the new Neo line. Great vid!
Great demo! I love their plugins too!
Love the sound of that device! love the sound of the music played at 11:43! Thanks Wytse!
Anything from elysia is just amazing!
Using an original track (not something premixed) is far, far better. Please keep doing this. Also nice touch putting hardware up on a stand so it can be easily seen.
Nice demo (or better to say: nice training session)! And of course, another GREAT Elysia product!
What a sweet sounding piece of gear!
I've picked up a tonne of Elysia stuff over the last year. Whenever it goes on sale. The plugins are very musical. Love the company.
Another excellent video.
The piano piece was very nice.
I have the original xpressor & xfilter and absolutely love them. Eylsia makes great gear.
Thanks for the video, this compressor sounds great
When using negative ratios, trying lowering the threshold. This is very useful for bringing out the snap of dull and lifeless drums and percussive elements without all of the extreme release artifacts. You were showing more of the extreme effect that negative compression can do, which is also quite cool under the right circumstances. Overall excellent video, and as per usual, very helpful demos that you do.
Great demo. Thank you very much. Very interesting piece of gear.
Wow! Lovely!
There is that beautiful piano piece again, can we listen to it anywhere on streaming services? This box sounds great, really versatile!
With more than 5db GR on that music piece is just wow!!! its amazing!
I have the current xpressor and love to know the sound difference between the Nero. Can you compare them?
Finally hardware again. That's the way it has to be. That comp sounds very good. Maybe i will look for it
However...the power button on the back... ? Fantastic idea....
Elysia does great gear. I'm in for the 500 version :D
I’ve had the Xpressor 500 for a lil while and it might be the best gear purchase I’ve ever made
Also the Toneboosters compressor has a very nice autogain compensation feature for lower ratio settings.
I was able to hear the effect via my headphones, which are Bayer Dynamics 990 open backs. Nice sound.
Beautiful
As usual, great recording White Sea! May I ask what microphone did you use on the bass drum?
You rawk!
Elysia really does an awesome job!
Another fan of Elysia here. I use their stuff for my film scores, especially the MusEQ impresses me. I can't explain why. It has a certain sound. And Karacter gives you some dBs headroom before you even hear it distort. Amazing.
Currently I'm also using all of those, but in plugin form. I find them amazing, I could only imagine the equipment to really have it "going on".
Forgot to say, I also find that they have a specific "sound" that lends itself well to scores for sure!
thats why I'm looking at this thing. the GRL + clean sound and more ratios kind of make it seem like the perfect candidate for orchestral work.
Thanks for your videos steven wilson :DD :D
Whats the second beautiful music? I loved it!! Great Work!
eyo thanks for putting me on to Jakob Ahlbom!
Oh man, now I have to buy this
lovely piece of equipment, and great demonstration! what's the name of that piano piece?
That is a nice sounding compressor.
Cristalino y versátil Top Gerät Exceptional Compressor. 5 stars. Thumbs up
I like the warm mode... always...
Awesome ! What is this very nice acoustic song at the end after the test on drums ?
don't we just love new shiny toys
Isn’t that the same as using a side chain compressor feature so the compress more only affects the side chain signal like a high pass filter at 200hz?
It sounds frigging awesome 😍
I didnt need to need more gear 🙈
What was that fantastic piece of music? Please share name, i need that in my life 🫶🏼
thanks for your review! one thing: maybe the mic can be quiter / the demo louder next time? anyway..very helpful!
That thing sounds great on drums. I'd put it toe to toe with my ancient Dynamite. Thanks for the video.
I'd like to tryout in my studio, unfortunately the warm mode is not appreciated due to youtube compression I guess, at leas I do not lisen any differences.
❤👌🏽💯 on my list now
Can you share some more audio examples on electronic (melodic techno) mixes?!
when will there be audio samples; Neo vs V1 Xpressor? There are only vague descriptions of what has changed sonically, i want to hear it :)
I think I'll have to save some pennies to pick up one of these to throw on my stereo buss. I REALLY want the RND Portico II Master Buss Processor, but one of those goes for almost 5k new. lol
I’m just sort of thinking out loud with this, but it would be interesting to know what the time value (taper) is on the secondary release stage of the logarithmic release setting on The Xpressor…
I’m curious, because The Teletronix LA2-A also has a secondary release stage that’s slower than its initial faster release (which is inherent and not adjustable).
While I’m not suggesting that the Elysia is even remotely similar to an LA2A’s opto circuitry and tube output, it might be possible to “mimic” at least the LA2’s release character on the Xpressor, by using its logarithmic release.
Or, not…but I’m curious about it.
Anyhooo…
Just a thought.
That auto attack thing is super cool
What was the noise like using a mic on an acoustic. Thanks.
I have two distressors and an Overstayer svc comp, do you think xpressor would be really a different thing in my set ? I would consider an IGS tubecore, or a ssl g.... An advice ? Thx
Great video! Would love to hear it on male vocals.
Hey white sea could you revue the multiband compressor Stereo Tool? It's a monster from Thimeo Audio Technology.
How does it compare to the previous version?
What are the differences to the original XPressor?
11:35 - 11:42 is the drummer singing along? Or some bleed into the studio?
Sweet sounding little machine. Elysia makes cool stuff, nvelope was the first plugin I ever bought.
Bleed in the studio
i need the track that you use in this video ! :D Nice Piano
What was that piano song? I gotta listen to that
Howdy. If I connect it to the uad apollo twin, can I record the voice through it? I saw that the compressor is stereo, and I record the voice in mono.. Or how could I record it in mono through it
i would like to see comparison with mpressor
had the original Xpressor and i don't hear much of a difference tbh. Will have to hear some comparisons.
Any sub $500 character compressors you guys could recommend for a live pa for synth/drums/looping? It's a Bagend elf 8hz crossover system, 2x212 subs, 2x3way tops if that matters...
Art VLA Pro II
Thanks, Girl..."
"Rachio"
sounds good to me
Would this be effective on single sources? Like shaping a kick or snare drum? Really keen to get one but all the demos seem to be of it on a bus or a master.
I was going to buy the original xpressor qube, I ended up ordering the qube neo.
What a sound.. wish there were more digital alternatives to this sound, there’s a certain dimension along with clarity that this adds, so silky..
@@WillyJunior Taupe is on my list. Any other suggestions?
UAD Mpressor is the best digital option.
nice
Does anyone use Reference 2 by Mastering the Mix? Or is there a better reference plugin or method to do that?
I used to, but switched to ADPTR AUDIO Metric AB and it's amazing and a lot better workflow. Absolutely love it
@@jackc8120 I agree. Owning both, I can say that Metric AB works much better for me. If only in terms of usability, I much prefer it. It's an excellent referencing plugin.
I use both, I really prefer the workflow and look of reference 2. It’s much easier to loop sections, solo bands and the level matching etc.. (metric has all these features as well btw)
The level line in reference in brilliant, and the way you can reverse it to match an eq curve is something I’d hate to lose. But when you solo tracks with level matching it really messes the analyzer up and changes the levels of everything in the reference track, which is an absolute pain in the ass.
That being said metric has the actual analyzer graph which if I had to pick one I’d take it over the level line method of reference 2.
The animal is amazing😅
That costs as much as a DAW. No, I would rather not spend that kind of money for any plug-in. I might spend that much on a DAW or Hardware, but not on a plug-in. LoL.
Check out the Eplex7 plugins!
What is the music used please?
Functionality wise its almost a mpressor now, I love the Plugin, you should try it
huh? Functionally it's the exact same as the original Xpressor, and still does not f with the Mpressor. Mpressor is what it is because of the anti-log release, higher negative ratios, independent channels and EQ.
Do you have to use the mix knob to bypass?
Also is it VCA?
What's up with the skittles nail polish?
maybe he color coordinates his fingers for a visual cue when he looks down at the mixer, like colors knobs on EQ pots. maybe he had a nervous habit of eating skittles during mixing session and hes trying to break a bad sugar habit and visually tricking his stomach. maybe he just likes skittles nail polish. maybe
Great demo video as always..but I'm still unclear as to what is 'neo' about this version compared to the original (which I had and was impressed by). Even their website seems to be nebulous about this and simply cites things like improved circuitry and high-end/low end reproduction.
sounds good! you can get similar results with acusticas pink comp adjusting the shmod level and sidechain settings.
Yes and pray that you will not get mysteriously popping up clicks, pops and spikes at the bounce / playback times... on Mac osx at least 🙂. I use ''old'' Xpressor 19 inch rack for years... no pops, clicks or such and sounds better (or politely - at least different) than any plugin 🙂
Acustica? no.... BpB Dirty LA is amazing.
Love to know the difference between this device and a digital matching plugin. For instance if the inside is truly analog or does it have some kind of A/D converter?
Completely analog.
I would love to see you do a snake oil video on any of the Tonebooster plugins. They have unlimited time demos with only a popup and no preset saving limits. They are also very affordable and sonically I think they rival Fabfilter. Their lineup is very similar to Fabfilter as well which I think is interesting. I'd love to see your thoughts on them. They're EQ is the best affordable alternate to Pro-Q 3 I have seen that has an almost identicle feature set.
I keep hearing people talking on the right side of the drum recording
3D knobs and screws! cool.
😱
The plugin killer!!!
Plugin version coming soon...
elysia comps always sounded way to transparent for me. the quality built is great. but for these kind of transparent applications I would always prefer a plugin (insert any plugin manufacturer here) instead of an analog unit.
negative ratios - very useful for making a dj look like an idiot for turning up too loud
For a true ‘Neo’ they really missed a trick. Would have been a smart move to add DAW recall integration like Tegeler and BM. That has to be the way to go with ‘next gen’ analogue kit for the future. This is just another flavour of the same more or less. Wonder if they’ll be doing neo of all their range? The Mpressor (which o have) could be more recall friendly. I’m not inclined to buy any more outboard other than simpler 500 series units unless they have DAW plug in support. The Creme, Raums etc are amazing in that respect alone! Would love Elysia to follow that course too.
@info junkie - Your love for 500 series unfortunately shows your Ignorance on why 500 series are like playing in the bush league competed to the pros.
@@donnas8408 my sincere apologies - you have me at a total loss. But i’m not sure your intent is to educate rather troll. But please expand why I have a love of 500, why i’m ignorant on the differences between 500 and 19R (it could be the case as I only have 6u of 500 vs about 60u of 19) so very much still learning. No idea what a bush league is either. Sorry.
To others, who might have a better, more informed contribution to the debate - for added context my point was that after spending a small fortune on 19r outboard - i was suggesting that to attract further investment said manufacturers would have to introduce more DAW integration. In the meantime i’d limit further investment to 500 as combined with EXISTING 19R and plug ins I’m unlikely to miss anything based on a few minor component tweaks and subtly different iron curve. So in my mind this is a missed oppertunity by Elysia - who I wholeheartedly agree make excellent kit - to take it to the next level.
I have no need for a Xpressor without DAW integration as it would do nothing my Mpressor can’t already do.
I would look into someone like "access analogue". of course not being able to put fingers on buttons is a crap thing, but having access to stuff Neve master buss compressor, vulture, SSL fusion etc. for literally a handful of dollars is priceless. not affiliated with them but if you already know how to properly set up these outboard units you can get a full master done with 40 grand worth of gear for like 15 dollars. I do still have outboard gear in my studio but when it comes to the big guns I dont have hundreds of thousands. and it works like a charm and sounds gorgeous
@@flipnap2112 that’s a very interesting service. It’d be interesting to subscribe to that and run the same stem through a local chain and the remote/robotic chain vs a plugin emulation of same chain. Might do that one day.
Yes. Daw/plug-in integration. Remove obstacles to me using it instead of a plug-in, and increase the likelihood that I use it creatively/experimentally on individual tracks.

Nice! Reminds me of The Dead Texan.
Starting to save money in one, two...
Nice video! Still think the brand is called Elysia and not Elusia ;)
They pronounce it as Elusia, so I do it as well
I wish Elysia had more dramatic looking metering. A bland red led ladder is so beneath them! Their gear looks different than everybody else’s, but their metering is just meh…..Throw iin a multi color led ladder or vu meter… give that beast some eye candy!
WTF is wrong with youtube having comments from before the video is released?

Maximus in FL studio has let you draw in your own compressor curves for years now. You can do >inf ratio's easy. You should give it a try and see what you think.
Thanks for the review👍. The 500 rack is inferior due to the power supply specs (on most if not all 500 series) voltage etc... that lowers the headroom etc... 19'' rack is the way to go IMHO 🙂
This is a common misconception. 500 series gear isn't neccecarily lower headroom. It depends on the unit.
@@GingerDrums Sure if you say so 🙂But everything I tried in 500 series didn't sound any better than plugins @96k 64 bit float DAW session... most of 19'' hardware does... Tried very hard to go 500 series way... but no honey so I gave up. But that all takes into account that the DAW is setup properly for AD/DA conversion and using decent converters. I believe in what I hear and there's quite a difference, so for me those are the facts, not a misconception 🙂... Others might think differently and that's super fine... use your ears and don't trust anything else and make your own decisions based on that... that is the best thing I've learned through my career.
@@finspire8632 Technically you are right there is less headroom... but the difference in noise floor is so far below the threshold of human hearing it doesn't make any really difference. Similar to dithering or 320kbps mp3... on double blind tests nobody can hear the difference including mixing and mastering engineers. There is no need to trust your ears and bias :) the measurements and data are widely available! It is common for major mastering engineers to use 500 series gear for mastering. It's similar to the golden power cord arguments you hear online... Just follow the data on objective questions of headroom :)
@@GingerDrums Hehe, thanks for the advice 🙂. Each to their own! Way too many ''experts'' and ''mastering engineers'' these days. I don't hear my ears lying to me, but maybe someone else does. Bias is only a viable option when you don't know what and how to listen and compare. Btw silver is much better than Gold🤣 Love from Finlandia🤍.
@@finspire8632 Well.. no not each to their own. Audible differences in headroom is an empirical matter. If you ever come to Berlin I'm happy to challenge you to pick out a well converted 320kbps MP3 over a 24bit .wav, let alone the difference between a rack and 500 series unit level matched. I have a pair of kii three speakers in a great sounding room, if you manage to pick out the 500 series in an ABX test I'd put 1k on the table happily.
