I love the way your cabinet turned out. I never used that method with a broom, especially a child's lol . I love the color of the cabinet i'm gonna go to bears and get some, It kind of goes with everything.
I was all set to try the Sausalito finish and then this was posted 😮 A quick change in plans….it is wonderful! Our Dollar Tree doesn’t have children’s brooms but I found something better! In the cleaning aisle, Essentials broom head (handle sold separately). It’s 11” wide and I was able to go over my large dresser top in just 2 sections. For smaller trim areas I used a chip brush to remove the paint. On areas that I felt I should have removed more paint to reveal the white primer, I mixed 1/2 poly with a Behr sample that I had on hand “Baby Fawn”. Dry brushing straight lines is seriously hard, so remove enough of the Skyline Steel while you can! Shannon-Thank you for sharing your amazing talents and inspiring us to try new things ❤
I just want to Thank you!!! You are doing an amazing job and I have learned so much!!! I got a dresser from the dump and cleaned up fixed and painted drawers in faux wood and rest black with black Industrial hardware and sold $425! Everyone loved it so THANK YOU! Love love your content😘
Thx for responding to my question. I really appreciate it. My husband will too because he won't have to listen to me complain it didn't come out right. Lol
I like the different techniques you have developed. It's nice to know the various steps to achieving your look. Of course practice helps. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Oohhhh, I'm so happy you did this color! I've been experimenting with trying to get something close to this and have not been successful - I didn't even know it was a Pottery Barn color. Thanks so much, you just saved me hours of trial and error!
Me too! I just spent the last three days watching 30 videos trying to find what I was looking for. I almost went with the faux pottery barn driftwood or the other finish they have and was on my way to Home Depot to get the goods. After three days of searching I decided to give it one more shot and this video popped up! I didn’t know this finish existed either from Pottery Barn but I have a piece of furniture that is similar to this that I was trying to match. The only difference is my piece of furniture has a tiny bit of gray here and there. Just goes to show, never give up!
From dull and plain to beautiful, fresh, classy and interesting! I love your technique and I have used it on my coffee table with great success. Thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you so much for your explanation and videos. I really appreciate the exact colors and so to speak recipe. You are so sweet to share. I'll send my before and after, but I'll tell you I couldn't get it at that quality if I had to "try out techniques" So Shannon thank you!!! 😊
I love that you include how long it took to sell & the price. Of course it varies by location but it’s great to know that you are out there doing so well! 👏👏 There’s not as much of a market in my area but I’d love to try with these high end finishes! Thank you for sharing! 🤗🤗🤗
Hi. I just did this finish on a coffee table, thanks to your excellent tutorial. It seemed a tiny bit flat and lighter than I wanted, so after it dried overnight, I brushed on and wiped off a coat of Fusion Stain and Finishing Oil in the color "Driftwood" and it added a bit of depth that I really liked. I haven't tried wax like you mentioned, but this finishing oil is incredibly easy to work with. I probably only used 3 tablespoons on the whole coffee table, it's pricey, but you use so little.
Yes, I still use it! And it would work great for this finish I just slightly prefer the one I used because it gives a bit more variation and for this light white/tan finish I just decided it needed it
Hello, Your video's are wonderful. Found this on line because I already had water-based Polycrylic; Polycrylic is a thinner material than Polyurethane so it will require more coats for the same coverage. Also, polycrylic is far less toxic and flammable than polyurethane. Because of this, polyurethane requires careful storage to prevent a fire.
Thank you for showing us your secrets. I've used this method for a bed frame and it looks great. My question is I have a solid oak dresser. I sanded it down. Do I need to primer to do the pottery barn method. Or can I do a paint wash and go over it with a gel stain. Thanks again
Just curious, because I asked her which paint color she used and didn't get a reply. How do you know which paint color she used? I watched the video 3 times and tried to zoom in on the paint lid. Is it Rugged Tan mixed in with the poly? Thank you!!!
@@busyme4 Thank you, Ninna!!! That's very helpful! I watched the video earlier on my Roku device/TV but the "more" section isn't available there. Got on my phone to post the questions and can see the link you directed me to now.
Pretty finish! Which are you liking better? The original PB finish or this new one? Could you share what Behr Wax you used to seal? I’m trying to figure out the best way to refinish my nightstands. They are MDF and came in bright fire engine red color so I need to change that obviously lol. However I really like how sleek and smooth the MDF is straight from the factory. I know once I paint it will make the piece feel painted. Is there anything you can recommend to help retain its hard resin like slippery finish MDF normally has? Hopefully I explained myself to not confuse you lol
you can use wipe on poly for that more hard finish at the end, I like the OG seadrift saucelito pottery barn finish most but fun to switch it up and this one is easier for beginner I think. any of these pottery barn looks are going to feel really textured once you paint bc of trying to create that wood effect. If you use oil based paint and go with ome solid color you can keep that slick look though

I did two coats of primer, one coat of the glaze and then off camera I used clear wax all over since I’m selling it but for home use you could probably skip that step
Great idea to mix paint and poly. Beautiful finished product. Question. Have you ever used this product with a color, say like light green? So you think it would look ok. Just doing it for myself, not to sell.
You can use either or and I have done both, this time was just cheap interior paint but mixed with the clear coat it acts more like a satin enamel, and I usually throw a clear coat or some wax on it after to add to the durability
Hi!! How many coats do you use of the skyline steel with the dry brush technique? I just found your channel not long ago and have binged watched multiple videos (obsessed with your work needless to say) and bought several paints you have used on dresser projects to try your techniques. 😬 Also I wanted to ask if the Ovation Jute & Cotton color is the same as the Behr Rugged Tan paint you have used in the pottery barn dupe video?? They appear to be the exact same online and looking at the colors side by side after taking screenshots. Thank you!!!
Just one good coat of the skyline steel mixed with clear coat that's "my at home diy glaze" Rugged tan is more pink, and jute and cotton is more like a traditional tan. The Pottery barn sea drift wood in the store has a slight pink undertone so that's why I use that bc I color matched it in the store but a wood look will look great in a variety of colors
Great video! You used waterbased polyurethane. Have you ever tried making glaze with polyacrylic? I'm just curious because I have many gallons of polyacrylic of various Sheen's, but no polyurethane. 😊
I see a many different paints. Do you like traditional paint over say chalk paint? I struggle with getting the paint to glide with chalk paint and keeping the ratios the same after I come back to a project. Thanks!
This is exactly what I was looking for and didn’t even know it was a Pottery Barn finish. I just spent the last three days watching almost 40 videos to find what I was looking for. I was almost on my way to HD to pick up supplies for the PB Sausalito finish. Before I left I thought I would try one more time and this video popped up! Thank you! I’m sure glad I’m not one to give up easily ha ha. Anyway, I have some Valspar clear glaze on hand. Could I just use that to mix with the paint? Also, I have a piece of furniture in a very close finish but mine has a few gray streaks here and there. If I wanted to try to add in a bit of gray to my DIY project, would you suggest dry brushing it in after the glaze finish has dried? Thank you again. Hope my piece turns out as beautiful!
Only if you sand through the original clear finish or if there are knots in the wood, otherwise just keep a can handy in case you see any red marks showing up after the first coat
What finish that you use sells 1) most quickly and 2) for the highest price? I appreciate sometimes their are regional variations but I also live in the SE USA and in similar demographics.
