TRASHED & FILTHY: Unbelievable Before & After Laminate Furniture Makeover

  • This transformation is like night and day. I did what I could to keep this 70s laminate and wood dresser full of mouse droppings out of the dumpster. It's sturdy, but just terribly neglected. It had no feet/casters, the drawers barely worked.
I used a new-to-me paint colour from Fusion, Wood Wick, and made a very diluted paint wash for the drawers out of the same colour, sealing with Odie's Wood Butter. I also added new brass casters; a bit of bling and the icing on the cake.

Side note- it's been brought to my attention that the auto-generated subtitles labelled "Hantavirus" (when I was talking about the droppings) as HAUNTER VIRUS. HAHA! Which is comical, but in all seriousness... it's Hantavirus. lol
Also- I just realized that in the video I said I paid $40. I didn’t! It was initially listed at that price but it was only when the previous owner dropped it to $20 that I contacted them. Sorry about that! Totally escaped me during the voiceover.

Honestly, Agnie, these are probably my favorite pieces from you. I love seeing the beautiful, expensive pieces come back to life, too, but it's so cool that it isn't all you do. I wish we would all reuse and revive common things and make them beautiful. There's something poetic in that, and it's good for everyone.

You knocked that one out of the ball park! The drawers’ grain actually look to be a work of art in themselves : the heavy grain, variation of type, size, color of that wood grain in total combines into the look of an abstract painting. Brilliant, stunning, perfecto!

One of my favorite transformations you’ve ever done. In my culture when someone makes an amazing dish that warms people inside out, we say, “You put your foot in that!” Certain family members’ recipes can be copied to a T but will never come out the same. This is what makes you such an incredible artist: no one can do what you do. They can use all the same products, tools, and techniques, but it just wouldn’t come out the same. You have a gift. 💜

Genius! You know, a beautiful walnut antique piece is one thing to restore, but to take a laminate piece mixed with frankly unattractive solid wood and make it beautiful is where the real vision and artistry comes in. You have an eye and a talent for taking the most unappealing, throwaway furniture and seeing the possibilities it still holds. Beautiful job--these ugly ducklings that you turn into swans are always my favorites!

Stunning ,yet again. Incidentally that "Second chances" quote is kinda why I use pallets for so many projects, it's in many cases alot more work than just getting milled lumber. My father in law is a cabinet maker and he always jokes that I saved the fire from the quality of the wood I used.

Restarted my similar composition project yesterday as the weather is getting warmer. This reminds me during the rough moments that everything is worth it in the end! Well done.

🤣🤣🤣 That was my grandmother’s bedroom suite except it was all blond finished and two nightstands. I recognized the handles. 🤣🤣🤣 The last time I saw it was 1987 on a visit to Rochester NY. Great job rehabbing it.

That's funny because my grandmother had the matching highboy. I wish I could say that I last saw it in 1987, but it's still at the cottage!

You have an artist's eye for choosing colors to compliment each other. This chest of drawers is exquisite, looking much better than it ever did in its previous life. The woodgrain of the drawers pops against the paint color of the framework and top. Love those little brass castors.

It’s a charmer. I really like the personality of the different wood grains. Learn so much from your videos. Used to hate MCM but after watching you make them sparkle I’m kinda liking them. The hardware is always so unique. Thanks for making these videos. Saving one piece at a time.

Having ( binged 😊 ) watched quite a few of your videos now, I am learning to really appreciate just how skilled you are. You have this incredible way of “restoring” a piece while at the same time making it relevant. A hint of modern while still keeping the integrity of the piece’s original age. Giving your pieces a much better chance of being loved by new owners for many years to come.

Never understood the mindset that this sort of furniture is only fit for the rubbish bin.
You have proven on more than one occasion that it can be turned into something anyone would be proud to have in their home.

I've seen a lot of pieces that look like that at thrift stores and wish I could just apply your magic and make them "new" again. You made this one look beautiful without too much repair work. Your explanations as to why you do or don't do some things a particular way are helpful. Thanks for another beautiful redo on this one. We enjoy you so much. Thank your sniff tester, too.😍 Love, Dave and Amy

That's way more like it. What was the manufacturer thinking when they finished this piece? You constantly wow me. You don't grind pieces out. You treat every piece differently and that takes imagination. Well done!
