Yo''' Bada$$! 😆😆😆 My boy said mason sand works great in his 100lb spreader. Damn you, now I need to ask my wife for forgiveness for buying this in the near future! 😂😂😂
Just an FYI, based off this video I wondered if this same process would work with my Scott’s Edge spreader and it did ! I went to Home Depot and bought a bag of Mason medium sand just to see how it spread. I set my spreader on 4 and it went down the same way as this spreader so hope that helps anyone who is on a budget like me 😂😂😂😂 now I did use my lawn leveler in certain spots and prior to this I successfully put down a soil/sand mix in my Lanzie Peat moss spreader which also did a great job. So going forward when only spreading medium Mason sand I will use my Scott’s spreader and when I am putting down sand/soil mix I will use my peat moss spreader.
Leveled my Midwest clay bluegrass lawn with a LOT of sand last year and when I went to draw my samples for my soil test this year I had a beautiful inch of sandy soil on top and my over seeded grass looks beautiful (not to mention how much more level my lawn is). Some people don’t understand there are more ingredients than clay and sand I guess when you make concrete 🤣
Looking good! Side note - if you or anybody else is looking for a greensmower let me know. I am selling my mowers to install irrigation this year. Yard is going to be destroyed…
Totally agree sand needs to be dry! Did a test spreading Arden 15 seed with play sand on a Scott’s spreader, and guess what. Nothing was coming out. I had to keep shaken the spreader in order to see some results! Ended up just hand spreading most of it got ok results tho!
yaaaaa... yesterday I used bags of play sand from Home Depot.. majority of them were wet and didn't work with my Scotts drop spreader :/ So I switched to Landzie compost spreader. one of the bahs were super dry inside and sand went right through the compost spreader when I dumped dry one into it 😂 I have mason sand delivered. i bet they are wet too, and Im losing time too..! I didn't know about the silica sand!!! wow
😂 Yes a lot of folks here are telling me to use the peat moss spreader for sand and in my head I'm like... Um it's just gonna pour out 😂 but if it's wet yes def peat moss spreader I can see working 😊🤙🏾
The first play sand bag seemed humid…. Any little humidity in the sand and it won’t budge…. I dried my sand with a blow torch and it became like the silica…
I mentioned it in another video but you can also throw sand in your peat moss spreader and spread it that way. Especially if it's wet at all. It probably puts it down a little thicker than the salt spreader though.
It's going to be great for spreading!! Way easier than wheelbarrow and tossing it with a shovel. I can see you topdressing a ton! Your yard will be smooth thanks to that baby blue 🤣🤣🤣
Whazzup Bro. That play sand will work just fine it’s however packed wet so one weekend just get a tarp and lay the sand out evenly about an inch at most and let it sun dry. It will work great then.
@@YardBrah same but just letting ya know. Or… save it and mix the play sand with the top soil in the peat moss spreader 50/50 and get an even better mix
Don't use play sand like this guy. You should only use fine masonry sand for lawn leveling. Play sand will mess with water flow. if you use too much or apply yearly, your grass might start to die. Great idea though with the salt spreader! Show us a video when the town comes to resurvey your utilities and digs your yard up!!!
@@YardBrah incorrect. topdressing clay with sand making concrete is a myth. i am in a 100% clay area and the only thing that combats the compaction of the clay is sand. always aerate first. ive put down thousands of yards of sand on clay soil yards in my area. 100% noticeable difference in compaction, turf health, and moisture retention.
When I buy sand by the yard it eventually will always be kinda wet/moist sitting in my driveway or under a tarp. I’d have to wait for a real sunny day to dry out the sand people doing this right? That wouldn’t spread moist sand
I always spread a sandy lawn soil instead of straight sand on my lawn. I have always read this: According to the Institute of Food and Agriculture at the University of Florida, top dressing home lawns with sand is more harmful than helpful. Experts agree that sand should only be used on a lawn to level low areas, cover exposed tree roots, and to fix heavy thatch build up. Even in those cases, it is recommended that you top dress with a rich, fine compost instead of sand. I want a soil spreader since I have almost 6000 sq ft of lawn on Vancouver Island
