Thanks again regards tom
Robbie what would you recommend to top dress the lawn with I have a fine lawn made up of fescue and Bent. When I originally laid the lawn it was on a loam and sand mix.
That sounds like a nice lawn, good sand if you can get it. You should contact some local golf clubs, even walk in and have a chat with the greenkeeepers and ask where they buy their sand. The key thing is if you start using sand, get the right stuff and keep using it. This video should be useful to you ua-cam.com/video/X3v2g6Hybps/v-deo.html
Hi Robbie, Need to overseed and do some levelling on a clay soil based lawn. Am I best to fill big dips with sports sand and then a layer of soil for the seed the soil ontop of the seed too? Or would the levelling and overseeing need to be done at different stages? I'm keen to use the sports sand to try and improve drainage. Started drilling today to aerate too - given its a clay based soil, am I best leaving the holes empty and open or filling with sand? Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
Love these videos. Always learn something. Where i live USGA sand isnt available. Which alternative is best for use on my lawn. Is play sand or river sand ok?
This vid has been a revelation. I can see how important sand is now. I want to level my clumpy weedy lawn. Is this the correct order? Cut...add After Cut ...level with sand ..then if necessary add some compost mixed with seeds? I hope to do some of this over Easter. I wish you were here in London...I'd get you round. 😄👌
A compost spreader such as the “landzie” does pretty damn good job of spreading “dried” sand.. I actually bought a WALENSEE as it’s 50-60$ less then the landzie. Imo the welensee is better then the landzie and for less$$. Lobe the tool. Spreads sand dirt compost perfectly ..
I’m being a bit dim here, Robbie, but how does this help? Will the grass root into this and smooth out the bumps or is it just the sand levelling the ground? Won’t the sand blow away? Will it compress when mowing? I’ve got a really bumpy lawn with areas probably a good 3 or 4cm above the main level. Will that need tons of top soil to fix, rather than sand? Sorry to be an eegit!

Hi, how do you fill massive dips in the lawn? This is a good dip is it a case of adding topsoil and resending it as it only part of the lawn near the flags that have dropped?
Another great video. When you renovated & overseed it would have been as level as you could get it - so for clarity please can you confirm : 1) a soil/compost mix on top of seed is appropriate? 2) Top dressing with USGA or 70/30 sand is primarily to fill in any small dips, voids & imperfections ? The use of say a Landsee compost spreader (I’m not promoting such) would distribute nutrients in the form of a compost (as opposed to sand - having very little nutrients). Your point about ( 100% ? ) compost alone being a poor levelling medium is interesting & noteworthy. I suppose I’m clarifying…… sand, soil & compost all have a place & their uses in lawn care ?

Thank u Robbie I like your explanations! I’ve never seen the mat method. I work in a restaurant kitchen , maybe I’ll borrow one and try that! I’m planning on doing multiple steps in a few weeks... dethatch, aerate, overseed. I assume leveling would come after aeration? Can u advise? Thank u sir!
Hi Robbie great videos and advice, im looking to level a patch of garden with lots of undulations, looking at using a lawn lute to help can you recommend one there are lots out there to choose from? Cheers
I live in the States, DC to be exact. I'm preferring to try to rehab my lawn. I have a Dethatcher that has a scarifying feature. I also need to level my lawn, so I'm going to do the mat. Should I do the dethatcher before or after the leveling? Also, can incorporate overseeding into this process? Thank you. Loved video!
I made my own lawn rake , Isaw a vid on youtube how to make one and found some aluminium box lying around on site. But its a uphill battle when you have four crazy border collies ripping up the grass :)
Great videos Robbie. Can we get a link as to where to buy good sand in England. I have tried to find your stuff but failed. Also is it ok to put a lot of sand on like they do in the states and let the grass grow through. Thanks
@@Premier_lawns_official thanks for responding mate. I was referring to the risk of seeds becoming lodged in the dogs paws, do you fence off the area after overseeing/topdressing?
@@Premier_lawns_official it only went in this week unfortunately, around 280T but the quality of it wasnt great. Had a grading rake bucket in and was hoping there is some machine out there for the smaller stuff. Its a shame you guys dont cover tyrone lol. Great videos!
Hi Robbie, really liking your videos, we moved into our house last year and the gardens weren’t looked after at all so these videos are a great help. Robbie, how much grass did the 1 ton of sand cover? Many thanks, looking forward to watching and learning more from you
Love the videos Robbie. Just bought a new house and the garden needs TLC and would love to do the majority of the work myself. Where do I start??? Should I start with scarifying, aerate, over-seed?
@@Premier_lawns_official lol, nooo. Robbie I would only need about 1/2 a ton at the most. Although the overall garden front and back is a few hundred square yards it is mostly over steep banks between 8 and 10 foot high at the back and side of the house but at the front there is small flat lawn areas of a total under 75 sq yards that I want to get it into a nice condition and a more formal first class lawn but the rest will be a mixture of banks of Rhododendrons, Azaleas, Camellias along with flower beds some structural terraces faced with railway sleepers and walkways and paths. I leveled it up this smaller area 2 years ago with a good well screened topsoil from the garden but its as bad as ever after the wet winter we've had. The only thing I've no personal experience using is the good sand but its gets scarifieried, aeration and well fed when needed by myself. I just don't want to the trouble of re-turfing it yet but it wouldn't be the first garden that I've thrown the head in air over, killed the grass and started over. If you or anybody reading this knows of anyone with about half a big bag or thereabouts left over it would be more than enough for what I need and I'm happy to pay for it just not at a pound a kg for garden centre bags. Thanks G
Great video, thanks. I know you said you're not a fan but I have some quite big dips to try and level. Do you have a link for the silver 30inch lute at all pls?
Robbie - love you videos and obviously your lovely English accent. I have a quick question: I have a pretty decent size of lawn and unfortunately not easily accessible. The main issue I have is the subject of your video. The question does leveling the lawn in small steps make sense or would you recommend to take the hustle and ask a delivery company to deliver 2-3 tons of soil/ sand?

Loving the videos Robbie, i had my lawn dug up and replaced 2 months ago, it was so bad it needed 5t of top soil to get it slightly level, however, the team that did it were not as careful as you and there are some major undulations in it.
Cheers
He used a mat cuz its easier.
Great job thanks for sharing cheers
👍👍👍👍👍
First. Cheers Robbie 👌
Thanks John
I live in the States, DC to be exact. I'm preferring to try to rehab my lawn. I have a Dethatcher that has a scarifying feature. I also need to level my lawn, so I'm going to do the mat. Should I do the dethatcher before or after the leveling? Also, can incorporate overseeding into this process? Thank you. Loved video!
Hey Teddy, welcome to the channel!
Dethatch first, then seed, then level, mat in and feed
I made my own lawn rake , Isaw a vid on youtube how to make one and found some aluminium box lying around on site. But its a uphill battle when you have four crazy border collies ripping up the grass :)
The collies will make that a challenge all right. Bella used to be a tear away but has calmed down. 4 Bella's... Well that would be crazy 😧
@@Premier_lawns_official I have a Bella , Tippy , luna and a Jess . And Bella is the nuts one .haha
@@adejohnston6831 Luckily my Bella has calmed down, used to be nuts though!
Great videos Robbie. Can we get a link as to where to buy good sand in England. I have tried to find your stuff but failed. Also is it ok to put a lot of sand on like they do in the states and let the grass grow through. Thanks
The sand I use is very specialist. No links I'm afraid 😔
@@Premier_lawns_official can you recommend another type of sand that we can use instead then.
Love the content! How do you seed your lawn with a dog?
What do you mean, the dog 🐕🐶 doesn't present a problem
@@Premier_lawns_official thanks for responding mate. I was referring to the risk of seeds becoming lodged in the dogs paws, do you fence off the area after overseeing/topdressing?
@@MP-ee9jw I have never done that
Any advice for removing
You need to dig it out
@@Premier_lawns_official it only went in this week unfortunately, around 280T but the quality of it wasnt great.
Many thanks, looking forward to watching and learning more from you
It will really depend on the lawn, the humps and hollows etc. 1 ton might only do 100m other gardens it might do 250m2

Love the videos Robbie. Just bought a new house and the garden needs TLC and would love to do the majority of the work myself. Where do I start???
Should I start with scarifying, aerate, over-seed?
Check out the premier lawns community group on Facebook, they can help with that 👍
@@Premier_lawns_official Thanks Robbie, appreciate the steer 👍🏼
Hi Robbie, where can you get (Lisburn/Belfast area) USGA sand without paying an arm and a leg for stuff from garden centres.
Do you want 20 tons of it?
Thanks G
Brilliant videos Robbie. Where can that type sand be got?
its very hard to get in small quanties
Great video, thanks. I know you said you're not a fan but I have some quite big dips to try and level. Do you have a link for the silver 30inch lute at all pls?

Nice one Robbie, fed up of dragging the pallet around the lawn so I’ve just ordered the mat. Cheers mate 👍🏻

First up, I'm from Northern Ireland, not english ffs 💩 How much material you will need will depend on your own yard. My lawn was pretty level to start with...
@@Premier_lawns_official …my sincere apologies. Your Irish accent!
@@retoulrichgareus3457 😂😂😂😂😂💥💯
where would be the best place in Belfast area to get sand for levelling a lawn. And what sand would you recommend
Contact Irwin's and ask them for HS master's sand 👍
Hey Robbie! Big fan of the overseeding and lawn leveling videos. I'm aerating and overseeding in September but would like to level some sections of the front lawn (even bought a lawn lute). It's almost August, should I hold off on leveling or is there method you would recommend to tackle both? TIA - Sean in Chicago
Depending on your dips, this video might help you

I'm in Ireland and unsure of your weather in Chicago, might be a bit hot to do seeding?
I have a ride on mower and would love to get the nice lines that you have on your lawn, any tips? I use a mulching plug, not sure if that makes a difference.
Great channel. What about ye!
What is the best lawn sand to level a lawn. I only have a small lawn but it’s very undulating?
A good screened topsoil
What about ya Robbie fantastic 👏 video as usual
Thanks Finn 😊
I have a small lawn - very bumpy and patchy. Should I use top soil or sand to level before overseeding? Thanks!

Loving the videos Robbie, i had my lawn dug up and replaced 2 months ago, it was so bad it needed 5t of top soil to get it slightly level, however, the team that did it were not as careful as you and there are some major undulations in it. How would i best address this? In places some of the dips are about 2 inch's in depth.
Get them back to fix it.
Lawn lutes are very expensive the drag mat looks an economic alternative. Certainly going to follow up on this.
Costs around £35
