Old Composer Reacts to Dream Theater Pale Blue Dot Reaction & Breakdown
Dream Theater Reactions
You need to react to “The Count of Tuscany” from them. That song literally has everything and you as a composer will go nuts with it.
Yeaah boii
Yeah, I completely agree. Composition, execution, production, just awesome!
Yeap! I agree... Also "A change of seasons"
Octavarium is better xd
as much as I want to see him do all of the above, I want him to do some of the less elaborate classics first, like Take the Time or Space Dye Vest, something more accessible, something different than what he and most people might expect.
also, the Count of Tuscany can come across as a bit too cheesy at times
Octavarium, change of seasons, count of Tuscany.
These 3 are like my top dream theater long songs ever.
Geebz, do these, please.
as much as I want to see him do them, I want him to do some of the less elaborate classics first, like Take the Time or Space Dye Vest, something more accessible.
@@dodgrblu yeah that is also a good point. I'd love seeing stuff from dramatic turn of events, my favorite dream theater album personally.
I love Octavarium, coming from a "casual" DT fan.
My 3 favorite words that start with A on this channel:
Aloha!
arpeggiation!
AHHHLRIGHT!
Ya forgot howzit!
AWWWRIGHT!* You misspelled it.
Dream Theater has a song called In the Presence of My Enemies Parts 1 & 2. Some kind souls have combined the tracks into one for UA-cam videos. I highly, highly recommend that one. Killer joint by an amazing band.
Yes, dark master!!!
Dream Theater: Octavarium is a PERFECT Song for you. you said once it's hard to Balance Orchestras with Metal Bands, and THIS IS THE PERFECT BALANCE. it's 20 Minutes, but WELL WORTH IT!!
absolutely, we need to push for Octavarium. It would blow his mind
Yes, couldn't agree more!
Not my favorite song from them, but the live score performance is everything that Geebz would live in a performance. Here is the link:
ua-cam.com/video/TkHG4jnnrlA/v-deo.html
The whole album “Octivarium” is perfectly constructed.
Bruh, Epica's been doing symphonic metal for 20 years. Its not just one song, its their entire discography. If you are looking for the best blend of orchestra and metal, look no further.
Talking about a mix between orchestra and metal, don't forget to mention Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. IT IS A BEAUTIFUL SONG!
I once had the good fortune to sit in a front row seat just a few feet away from John Myung (John Bassplayer) for a 3 hour Dream Theater show. You are 100% correct about him. For 3 hours he played a perfect show (as far as I could tell), and hardly ever moved from his spot on stage. He was as focused as I have ever seen any musician, ever.
Oh, and the other 4 guys also played a perfect show, not a single note out of place. That show was the greatest musical experience I've ever had.
You would love The Count of Tuscany by Dream Theater. My favorite song of all time. From the Portnoy-era. Do the studio version.
I bet the production of Octavarium is about to crush Geebz's mind c:
Also, I'd love to see the Misunderstood reaction. Such a uniquely done piece of work
Yes please.
Pffff...every song from Train of thought is better.
@@tydendurler9574 Train of Thought is probably my favorite album from them, but The Count of Tuscany is out of this world epic!
Thank you for giving credits to John Myung! He's truly monster on his own lane
Dream Theater - Octavarium. From 20th Anniversary live Concert "SCORE". The best song of the best concert
Liquid Tension Experiment - Acid Rain live. Pretty sure you'd enjoy it.
DT are the MASTERS!🤟🏻
Dream Theater - most amazing talented musicians for each of the instrumentalists by FAR! Top of their game every one of them. There is no comparison. They were inspired by Rush (my 1st entry into music in the early 80s who I love and got me into guitar because of them) and then they became the pioneers and inspiration for so so many prog/metal/djent bands that followed in their footsteps. So glad they finally made it into the Hall of Fame! Hard to believe its now going on 40 years theyve been around (just like Rush was). Never can get tired of them. Petrucci is a Guitar God and looks like one :) but yes John MYUNG on Bass is insane and he never talks (thats the inside joke) and is so timid / soft spoken in person but WOW does he SHRED on those bass strings. And then you have Mike Mangini on drums who was once the worlds FASTEST drummer on the planet. Look it up
TOOL - ROSETTA STONED
Learning to Live, or anything off the Images & Words album
Yeap!.. its proggy..
yes, that last few minutes is magic, one of the best songs ever made. It takes quite a few listens to really absorb though
@@alonglkr3216 Learning to Live is all in 4/4
@@user-gj6qn4fj1g nope! Its not in 4/4😂😂
Infact there only 4 measures of 4/4 in the entire song🤣
Check the Time Signatures
www.songsterr.com/a/wsa/dream-theater-learning-to-live-tab-s30467t0
@@user-gj6qn4fj1g how dumb you should be to say Learning to Live is all 4/4? From the intro of the song it is already not 4/4
A Change Of Seasons, Octavarium, In The Presence Of Enemies Pt. 1 & 2, The Count Of Tuscany, Illumination Theory.
You should go for ''Learning To Live'' from their 'Images and Words' album (1992)
John Bass Player Myung haha, when he is given room to shine, it's brilliant
I appreciate you for doing these. If you'd be doing the new trendy stuff, you'd be getting a lot more views for sure. It's quite sad that real musicians never get much exposure and recognition. Even Dream Theater themselves only have hundreds of thousands of views, while other channels that repost their music get literally millions. Heartbreaking
More studio Dream Theater please!!
Octavarium
Octavarium, dude. You NEED to do a vid on DT's "Octavarium"... I mean, it'll be a LONG vid, like this one, but you'll be blown right away.
Dude this song perfecly summarizes what makes me absolutely love Mike Manginis drumming! His years of berklee teaching are really showing in the solo section!
Yep, this is Mangini at his best. The problem with Mangini in DT is that there is not enough of shit like this piece!
How did I miss this one? Just seen it and clicked and I hadn't watched it yet. I need more Dream Theater in my life
Metropolis part 1: the miracle and the sleeper. Labrie’s vocals coming in near the end of the font is powerful and also subdues the craziness of the solos. Great song!
Complication for the sake of innovation... that matters...
because they try hard for the impossible so as to the impact of his musical electrification to be effective inevitably to our ears, mind, soul, spirit, brain .... Thank you dream theater for this dreamy miracle... We owe you.
Crazy that you should post this today. I was at this gig and it was exactly a year ago today!
I was at their concert slightly earlier 😁 February 2nd. Extremely glad I got to see them before this whole thing
Bro I heard what u said under ur breathe u have confirmed what I believed u be 🍃🔥 but we all do to so we love you big hawaii man octavarium is a great dream theater masterpiece too
The newest album was a nice surprise, good to hear them writing together. 🤟🏻✌🏻
I hope you continue your delve into dream theater. they have a lot of music but you will not be disappointed.
Yes! Thank you for doing this!❤️
Wow..great reaction..love it!
Your reactions are such a breath of fresh air please keep them up.
Your breakdown of tracks is great....thank u. 😁
I love your videos, your insight and appreciation and of course the great positive energy you project!
Thank you so much!
Really appreciate what you're doing with this channel, Geebs, and glad to see your Sub numbers rise so quickly! Since discovering modern Prog several years ago, it is what has claimed the biggest portion of my music listening time and musical soul space! There's just something extremely enjoyable about the mix of technical ability, combined with enough space and complex song structure that really works for me. Melody is also very important to me and DT's songs The Best Of Times and Barstool Warrior both have all these traits on display...would enjoy your response to either of them! Safe surfin!
Wow the amount of (quality) content you release is amazing
You'd love their live performance of "Instrumedley". Theirs a different cam on every musician and they zoom in on different members at opportune moments
Oh for sure
Lines in the sand - DT
I love listening to you break down music, especially Dream Theater. Thank you for giving kudos to John MYUNG, one of the greatest bass players ever. "Third Eye Purple Level" is my favorite phrase. I'm not the first to suggest The Count of Tuscany, but i'd love to see your reaction to that masterpiece. Peace.
Death - Flesh and the Power it Holds
You were thinking of Flying in a Blue Dream by Satch! Great video as always, keep it up my man
SCENES FROM A MEMORY, the whole thing. Maybe too much for a reaction video., but worth the listen.
Definitely check out glass prison and if you want a nice long song go for octivarium or change of seasons
yeah! that feeling you get when you go: oh wait! this is live! crazy! their new drummer is impeccable! and i got the giggles like you when i hea crazy stuff like that... or anything a bit out there! aaaright!
Dang Dream Theater and Loathe in one day I'm loving it!
Idk if its on the list already, but i wanted to offer Native Construct's Chromatic Aberration to your queue! It's absolutely incredible
Thanks for all the amazing content!
Dream Theater - In the Name of God!
Absolute masterpiece!
can't wait for some more Dt on your channel :)
Gojira just came out with an amazing new track called born for one thing for their upcoming album, you should take a listen
Oooh man there's a lot of Live performance of DT that i want you to react to it.. let me start with THE SHATTERED FORTRESS LIVE AT THE BOSTON OPERA HOUSE
A nightmare to remember and home from the same concert are must listens
We want more dream theater :)
GiBi, your face while listening to such complex music is priceless. 😊
Hey Geebz, the first time I saw DT, I also saw the band Spocks Beard. If you never heard of them check them out, they are like a little Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, & CS&N all rolled into one. One of my favorite songs from them is from the album V called The Great Nothing. Please give them a try. BTW love what you do, keep it up and keep up the good work for the kids. Peace Larry.
Yes...this video is back on again...I love DT, started me on the prog train
DT's - Octavarium, the pinnacle of the metal prog genre
Yeah...just that the record sounds like ass, listening to it right now.
Images & Words and Awake is where it's at.
@@tydendurler9574 6:00 and Space Dye Vest
Yes!! It reminded me of Flying In a Blue Dream by Joe Satriani as well!!
the ministry of lost souls is another amazing DT song, i'd really recommend that one if you do more reactions to them
My career-spanning recommendations for the almighty DT, whittled down to 3 choices for the best of both worlds (composition and production):
Learning to Live, Lines in the Sand, Blind Faith
Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons
Awesome decomposition of the song. Here are some DT recommendations: 1. Glass Prison 2. A Nightmare to Remember 3. The Shattered Fortress 4. Count of Tuscany 5. Repentance - Studio versions please 🙂 Aloha!
Please react to Leprous - Aquired Taste (Live at Rockefeller Music Hall).🤘🏻
I really want you to react to The Glass Prison it A Nightmare To Remember from Dream Theater. Dude, you are so amazing and chill. I enjoy your decomposer fase.
I'm really hoping for some Cult of Luna soon. Finland, Owlwood, Eternal Kingdom, Vicarious Redemption or The Silent Man would be my top picks. And if we go down that road, Neurosis and AmenRa anwait.
octavarium next!!!
I've seen these few songs recommended a couple times, I'm just here to echo that sentiment. The Count Of Tuscany, Octavarium, and Learning To Live are songs you should react to as well. Although the only live performance I can think of is for Octavarium.
Please react to older songs by Dream Theater
11'12" - It's the starting point where there's nothing to be said anymore . Your body language says it all. These guys own prog. There is nothing else we can do or say about it. Oh, and it's John Myung his name ;)
DT, in a nutshell: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
5:52 I believe you mean Satriani's Flying in a Blue Dream? Because I totally got the same vibes from the "1st movement" so to speak
Ah yes, that's what I meant - thank you Mosh!
@@KeyOfGeebz Glad I can help 😄 keep it up! Love your videos
You should react to Muse's 3 part Exogenesis symphony!
Bent knee- bone rage (live at big nice studio) (I'm seriously addicted to this Band)
bent knee are very underrated!!
@@CameronClarkeOG yeah for how amazing they are
Fantastic tune 90s? Was there music in the 90s?
It’d be cool to see what you’d have to say about Within the Ruins’ song “Domination”. Always interested in hearing your observations. Blessings, my dude. 🤙🏻 Also: still here! And I won’t stop commenting this until you finally do it! 😁
more DT, more DT, more DT.... ;) Mahalo....
The Glass Prison, I think there is a live version too:)
Awesome stuff! You really HAVE to do Octavarium now, it is the pinaccle of DT compositionally for me and this piece pales in comparison... 😉 like what I did there?
You should try the count of tuscany or a nightmare to remember from dt
You should react to Host of the Seraphim by dead can dance. It is a beautiful piece of music with Celtic notes and a classical yet haunting vocals
You should really checkout “The Brain Dance” by Animals as Leaders for something really different 👌
React to Octavarium (the song) whenever you can. It's pretty long, but that's what makes it a monster of a song and for me their best song to date.
As others also recomended, "Count of Tuscany" is a nice song, "Octavarium" is brilliant and I personally also like "A Nightmare to Remember" a lot. It's like a short story in a song (which is true for a lot of their music.
Doug Helvering did a reaction to Octavarium a while ago and as a composer he was like a kid on a joyride. He goes a bit deeper musically and the song made him very happy :D
Hey it's back up!
Yea, it got blocked because I used the live video version on my original so I had to just out a static pic to get around it :)
@@KeyOfGeebz good to know that it's such an easy fix for you. I once uploaded a medley of parts from Fear Inoculum that I liked and I got a copyright strike for it, from a company acting on their behalf that I could find no info on. I did a few other rearrangements of songs including a Nightwish one, and that is fine, they just take any money it might make.
I'd recommend Illumination Theory but tbh any of DT's older epics are great too.
check out change of seasons of them
You should listen to Ministry of lost souls (Dream Theater)
Dream Theater's Octavarium is one of my favorite songs of all time. Worth every second of the 24 minutes!
If it must be shorter: Learning to Live, Misunderstood (that guitar solo would make your head spin once you learn how they achieved it), Metropolis Part 1...
Solid band and musicians, maybe do more from liquid tension experiment?
Right on man, I just listened to 3 minute warning. I had to pick my jaw up off the ground, just amazing.
Disturbed - The Light or Vengeful One
Puscifer - Green Valley or Apocalyptical
Tool - Invincible
A good song from current Dream Theater. Octavarium will not disappoint. Count of Tuscany is also a good choice. Please revisit more Dream Theater. Both a musical journey.
Please do Learning to live. It’s alright
I would love to see you react to “Dance of Eternity”!! Multiple genres of music with Metal🤟
He did that one!! It's the only one he did besides this one. It was posted two months ago. Check it
Nice Jacobs...
Jimmie's Chicken Shack - Fallin' Out
Please do a video on that track. Have a cool one.
I'd love to see you react to Cardiacs one day. If you like Oingo Boingo you'll loooove them.
Keep up the great work, really enjoying your content as always
Octavarium, In the name of god, breaking all illusions
Incredible feedback on DT from you. I can't wait for you to check out more from them. The Count of Tuscany and The Glass Prison need to be up there on your list.
Check out Mike Mangini's YT channel on your own time to watch his explanation of all his meter changes for this song. Mindblowingly exceptional. Enjoying it! Stay well!
Also, just subbed!
Trivium - Shogun. Masterpiece song
*snorts .. *laughs at self .. "oh my god drugs are bad" lmao love it
Try to listen Pain of Salvation - Handful of Nothing, the live version... just from the first guitar riff it is fun to count and decompose.
Wheel of Time by Blind Guardian has a massive orchestral section that I'd love to see your reaction to!
spawn of possession - apparition
You trying tokill ole boy? Lol
You should react to dimmu borgir gateways live
They have an orchestra with them
