Haken are so great! Difficult to find a song from them that's not going to be special or great for some reason. Any song will be good, even if it's not a favourite! Get deeper in their rabbit hole, you'll deeply enjoy the ride!
There are no bad Haken songs, just different degrees of favourite - ranging from Absolute Favourite to Favourite to Slight Less Favourite 😉 Although to pick one absolute must do - Cockroach King - that'll take you on a ride 🤙
This a little ugly in the changeups. Very cosmos. The stand their based on, seems like they should have had some thing more even. Maybe its the proxy. But yea they have some dysphoria about something
FWIW it may be different in some ways but I absolutely love this one. Been a fan for 10 years by now and I agree that there aren't really any bad Haken songs.
Harken is totally one of the best prog metal bands post Dream Theater. They are more experimental with their songs too. I haven’t seen them live unfortunately but I did see Ross sing when he fronted Mike Portnoy 50th birthday tour.
Yes!!! MORE HAKEN PLEASE! Falling Back to Earth, Carousel, Atlas Stone, 1985, Cockroach King. There are so many good songs to react to, looking forward to the chance at more
Absolutely give "The Architect" a listen. Such an incredible journey with a banger of an ending. And also, Einar Solberg of Leprous is doing some guest vocals. So all in all, absolute banger!
Carousel, from the same album, might be one of the grooviest tracks ever. You do a lot of tool tracks, I think you’d really dig this one. Wonderful auditory/soundscape journeys I’ve ever been on it. Please. Do more Haken.
PLEASE react to Messiah Complex by HAKEN. It’s one song subdivided into 5 parts and it’s 18:00 long but you did reptile so whatever. I REALLY think you’re gonna dig it man. It takes everything good about HAKEN and pours it down your throat.
Hey man! I'd really love to see your reaction on Haken's "The Architect". It is filled with amazing guitar work and is such a great journey to experience. You won't regret it!
Dude, I would love to see you react to their track 1985 off of Affinity. As the name implies, it really reflects that decade of music while still feeling very much the band's signature sound, it's one of their best songs and is musical treat. Keep rocking on my dude, love what you're doing!

Haken is one of my all time favorites and it's so cool to see how much this excited you. I HIGHLY recommend, not necessarily for the channel but for your own wonderment as a composer, really going through this album as a whole. The composition is absolutely incredible as a whole piece. I love the channel so glad I found you this morning
Hey Geebz, you definitely have to check out the Polish Progressive Rock / Metal band 'Riverside'. They are really melodic, and the singer also plays bass. It's a vital part of all their songs, the approach is somewhat similar to Rush with a touch of Tool and the finesse of Steven Wilson, I'd say. Some song suggestions: - The Depth Of Self-Delusion - O2 Panic Room (that atmosphere!) - Caterpillar and the Barbed Wire - Egoist Hedonist Thank me later! :D Cheers from Germany, love your authentic and honest reactions!
Carousel is the track you wanna check out on this one Geebz. The whole album is brilliant, but other than Invasion - which you already did - that song is ultra special.
Hmm he didn't do Invasion, right? At least not on the public UA-cam channel. Earthrise seems to be the only other Haken song he's done so far. I agree with both suggestions, but I think the next Haken track should be from another album. Maybe Visions or Affinity.
One of my favorite Haken songs and is the first track off their newest album, Virus, released just last year. Every album has a completely different vibe and would love to see you explore Messiah Complex from the same album. It's Haken at their best and includes recurring motifs from so many past albums.
Probably my favorite reaction of yours. Love this song - those thrash metal riffs are soooo good. Now please react to "Invasion" by Haken, it's from the same album. It will make you go nuts. Actually the singer is a key element of that song and he's using his voice more like an instrument here. You will love it 😉
Love Haken, was going to see them w Contortionist, both opening for Devin Townsend but then the pandemic hit, oh well. My fav songs of theirs are Streams (from 2010 Aquarius album), Crystalized (2014 Restoration EP, a 20min epic masterpiece) & Invasion, also from this album, Virus (2020)
Haken are absolutely incredible. If you keep listening, I bet you'll find yourself drawn to them as much as Tool. They're brilliant musicians with such a diverse and fascinating discography. Tons to dissect and they're strong in melody AND creativity. I'd recommend Carousel, Falling Back to Earth, Cockroach King, Puzzle Box, Atlas Stone Celestial Elixer, 1985... So many great ones!
Amazing! One of my favourite songs and album of last year. With hands Torn open by 'Our Oceans' is a big favourite more recently! And anything from Sleep Token 🙏🏽
Would love to see Carousel...it's such a cool way to take one idea and just play around with it in various ways. While sonically very different, it's very similar to how Tool songs are composed.
Holy crap! These guys seem to have pushed me thru the Dream Theater glass ceiling! They bring technical prowess with a fricking awesome hook…all their songs seem to have an absolute awesome hook which you beg for more!!!!
Dude same here. Although I actually really like DT’s latest stuff, Haken just keeps getting better and better and to me would be an evolution of their sound (not that DT couldn’t do Haken’s sound, it’s just that their “signature sound” doesn’t feel like that at all and it’s not what they want to do.)
Haken are such an outstanding band, and you can't got wrong with ANYTHING in their discography as they're so consistently amazing. Prosthetic is an absolute beast of a track!
I love Prosthetic, don't know why others don't! Although I came into Haken later so I like their more metal sound. If you can, check out their track called Veil!
This song is from my favorite album of theirs. Canary Yellow is also good, though I would LOVE for you to do the full Messiah Complex I-V. Other bands I would love to see you do multiple part songs would be The Ocean, and Coheed and Cambria.
Now that shows are starting up again, I can't WAIT to see them tear the roof off of some joint with this song. Certainly not my favorite of their songs, but that still puts it faaar above most other songs.
Please do: Beneath the massacre: autonomous mind Aegaeon: Ruination Wormed: The Nonlocality Trilemma Archspire: Lucid Collective Somnambulation Black Tongue: Second Death Chorder: Rapscallion All darker and very technical. Would love to hear your analysis on these monsters of metal
Bass wah pedal for that section at the end most likely. Really love this band. This song gives me big "The Glass Prison" (Dream Theater) vibes. Makes sense considering their influence on Haken.
You got me hooked Geebz!! And to everyone who comments y’all have some awesome tastes, opens me up to bands I’ve never listened to before as well! Keep up the good work!
I didn't know this album was disliked at all by the fandom. I honestly think 'Carousel' on this album is one of their best. But then there's 'Drowning in the Flood' from their early days which is unreal. Aaaand... Aviations - Outliers (Retrospect) is pretty good too 😁🤘
Oh, dude’s comin’ in with some absolute bangers! 🤩 Outliers is incredible - one of the best songs I’ve ever heard! Also, I think this album is my favourite Haken album; it’s the one I revisit the most, perfectly sums up Haken, it has everything! 👌🏼
So glad you finally got to this one! Great tune and one of my favorites of theirs. Neck and neck with 1985, which I recommend. I must have missed your other Haken reaction, so will have to look for it. Meanwhile, dropping my other recommendations that you haven't gotten to: Fair to Midland: Amarillo Sleeps On My Pillow or Walls of Jericho. Also, Brutal Behavior by Jack The Joker. Adding another: Blue Oyster Cult - Astronomy (1988 version on Imaginos) Keep rockin' brother!
Another awesome reaction Geebz. Absolutely love your take on things, and it’s interesting to hear your point of view about how the music is put together. How about “Burn After Reading” from Circus Maximus. You will love this prog band from Norway.
Love the reaction! Putting in my request for "Silent Jealousy" By X Japan, whenever you have time. Vocals are always another instrument when you don't understand them!
Hi Geebz ! First recommandation for me, I would love to see some Virus (the Norwegian) : As Virulent As You or Chromium Sun, Or Strange Calm. Very creative and underrated fellows for sure (absolutely no one I know knows about them and it makes me sad :D )
Hey, I'm a new subscriber (today) and am loving your content! Have only watched maybe 20 of your videos so far, but I'm really appreciating your perspective on music; the technical background info helps me understand some of my favourite tunes better, so thanks. I saw that you reviewed Type O Negative , and yes My Girlfriend's Girlfriend is great, but in answer to your question, it's not really representative. Maybe check out "Black No. 1" (Beavis & Butthead reacted to it back in the day) or "Love You to Death" (amazing vocal tones and musical arrangements)? Also, I see you've reviewed a lot of metal, but no Cradle of Filth, yet. They're a treasure trove of sonic loveliness, and I humbly point you in the direction of "Bathory Aria" or "Nymphetamine Fix", for starters. Again, thanks for sharing your insight with us and keep having a good time on here.
I've had the pleasure of seeing these guys live twice in AZ. Incredible performances and in small venues so it was very intimate and intense. Never get tired of their stuff. Still looking for that Lucid Planet reaction! Much love!
Haken's guitarist, Richard Henshall, has an album of his own that is absolutely amazing. Check out "Twisted Shadows", it features a synth solo by none other than Jordan Rudess.
Yes! I have been upvoting this song every time it pops up because i know he will be blown away. It's my favorite song by them and has been since Alaska released.
Selkies is awesome, but it'll be better later into Geebz BTBAM journey. I think Geebz would appreciate The Ectopic Stroll, The Proverbial Bellow, or another song from PII like The Black Box + Telos. 🤘🏻😁
Would love to see your take on a band named Wheel. First their song titled “Wheel” off the Moving Backwards album, then their song “Ascend” off their recent album Resident Human. The latter album has a new bassist that’s why I referred two songs to ya! Very Tool-esque!!
great video here!! I also play the drums and went to Berklee College of Music in Boston to study drums and music - I highly suggest and request the HAKEN song "MESSIAH COMPLEX" off of the same album you'd LOVE reacting to and hearing!! It is Genius and a Masterpiece - it's literally one of the most impressive prog rock songs ever created! It is in 5 parts and is a longer song but it's worth it since it's very amazing music!
I recommended Armistice by Mutemath on another video of yours, been listening to it for the first time in ages again, and for the first time I’m clearly hearing the awesomeness of it’s Badass Bassline. Funky tune
Atlas Stone would be a great one to listen to! I honestly wouldn't recommend Messiah Complex like some people are saying - there's so many references and leitmotifs that the awesomeness of the song is really lost on you as a listener if you hear it before a lot of their other stuff (in particular Cockroach King and the entirety of their album Vector). But yeah, Atlas Stone, Falling Back to Earth, 1985, Drowning in the Flood, Crystallised - lots of great tracks to listen to!
First time hearing them. I like most of it but not all. But it’s obvious how talented they are. Two thumbs up to actually understanding the singer. 🤟🏻🤟🏻🍺
🤙🤙ALOHA GANG! So apparently I did a song that is not a favorite of some in their discography. Just know that HAKEN is on my "circle-back" playlist so there will be more from them to come. HAVE AN EPIC DAY! Awwwright!!🤙🤙

Oh, and of course that means you really need to hear more Haken! :-)
One track doesn't tell you much of what they're about.
This song is an absolute banger. You should check out Cockroach King, and others have also mentioned Crystallized, both by Haken.
Cockroach King is a homage to Queen, so good!
@@noic_one Absolutely! There's a Yes vibe in everything they do ;)
Harken is totally one of the best prog metal bands post Dream Theater. They are more experimental with their songs too. I haven’t seen them live unfortunately but I did see Ross sing when he fronted Mike Portnoy 50th birthday tour.
Of all the Haken songs, I'd pick exactly those two as well.
Highly recommended! :)
Gotta listen to the album version of Cockroach King, but afterwards Geebz will love the puppet music video!
Don't worry about talking too much, it's why a lot of us are here - we simply love listening to you talk!
Agreed!
100 percent, this guys view on life in general is totally inspiring hahah
Yes!!! MORE HAKEN PLEASE! Falling Back to Earth, Carousel, Atlas Stone, 1985, Cockroach King. There are so many good songs to react to, looking forward to the chance at more
"Drowning in the Flood" is an excellent one, too!
"Visions"!
Any haken song really
Cockroach King would be nice, but personally I’d prefer Crystallised above all.
Absolutely give "The Architect" a listen. Such an incredible journey with a banger of an ending. And also, Einar Solberg of Leprous is doing some guest vocals.
So all in all, absolute banger!
Apples and Oranges... I'd recommend Crystallised.
wait, in what part does einar sing??
@@reibarata from 10:47 onwards, he doesn't do any clean vocals though.
@@Xatrian i LOVE leprous and i never noticed wtf
@@reibarata I didnt notice it either until someone told me about it. Thinking back, it did really sound like Einar..
Haken's Messiah Complex from the Virus album is next level. It will blow your mind.
Carousel, from the same album, might be one of the grooviest tracks ever. You do a lot of tool tracks, I think you’d really dig this one. Wonderful auditory/soundscape journeys I’ve ever been on it.
Please. Do more Haken.
solo in carousel is one of my favorites
I still have trouble counting the verses of Carousel, which I think is in 13/16 (or 13/8). That extra 16th note makes it quite interesting!
Invasion - Oddly enough, a Prog song where the singer is the key element in holding this song together.
"Falling Back to Earth" by Haken. Trust me on this bro. Last five minutes or so are utterly mind-blowing.
Agree times ∞
My favorite song of theirs
PLEASE react to Messiah Complex by HAKEN. It’s one song subdivided into 5 parts and it’s 18:00 long but you did reptile so whatever. I REALLY think you’re gonna dig it man. It takes everything good about HAKEN and pours it down your throat.
I second, third, and fourth this. (Five is right out...)
Yes please! It's probably the best song from Haken. Love it.
i never loved keyboarders in metal bands and even haken, but once i saw these guys live it all made sense and they keyboarder blew me the fuck away
It was rumored for a while, but now confirmed that Diego is leaving the group. He was so pivotal!
@@WitzyZed :(((((((((
Haken - Cockroach King. Knowing what you do with the kids. You would absolutely get a kick out of the song and the video. All Right!!!

Falling back to earth is the song that got me into Haken👍
YES
@@dommer1632 I discovered them after affinity and fell in love with that album, but over time I've been really digging the earlier stuff more
Falling back to earth. So good
Definitely celestial Elixer, just know it’s the finale of concept album about a mermaid. It’s awesomely weird.
the whole album is absolutely amazing. thanx to HAKEN for this great prog rock...
Hey hey, just swinging in here from your "help me program the last 30 days" video.

I was so hoping for him to stumble across Haken someday. Never clicked so fast on a notif.
He did Earthrise a while ago (which IMHO is too soft a start for Haken). This one floored him, though, such a fun reaction.
@@WitzyZed Exactly, I was hoping to watch him react to one of the epic ones. It's no The Architect but it's a step further from Earthrise still.
I've had the pleasure of seeing these guys live twice in AZ. Incredible performances and in small venues so it was very intimate and intense. Never get tired of their stuff. Still looking for that Lucid Planet reaction! Much love!
They’re headlining for Symphony X in AZ in June and I’m far more hyped for them than Symphony X (and I love Symphony X lmao).
Haken's guitarist, Richard Henshall, has an album of his own that is absolutely amazing. Check out "Twisted Shadows", it features a synth solo by none other than Jordan Rudess.
Between the Buried and Me - Selkies: The Endless Obsession
Please and thanks you.🙏🤞🦥😀
Yessss this song is a journey
We’re half way there guys, Geebz has spotted us! Fingers crossed he has a gummy bear for extra motivation😀
Obfuscation is another killer track by between the buried and me.
Would love to see your take on a band named Wheel. First their song titled “Wheel” off the Moving Backwards album, then their song “Ascend” off their recent album Resident Human. The latter album has a new bassist that’s why I referred two songs to ya! Very Tool-esque!!
Wooohooooooooo! (Too much?)
Haken (rhymes with Bacon) 😉 This will be great! Saw them live on the eve of COVID in Boston. Stellar show!!
great video here!!
Your face when you heard that short bass lick transition was priceless
I recommended Armistice by Mutemath on another video of yours, been listening to it for the first time in ages again, and for the first time I’m clearly hearing the awesomeness of it’s Badass Bassline. Funky tune
Mr Geebz, the compositional decomposer, please compose to position more Haken in your 30 DAY COUNTDOWN: Cockroach King (a must do) or The Architect
Awesome man Haken!!! They are amazing!!!
finally! great song, epic band.
Pareidolia, The Architect or The Cockroach King (Full album version and after the puppet clip!).
Geebz will love em all.
Really hoping to hear some more Coheed and Cambria reviews from you. Was a bit disappointed to hear that you did a Patreon only review.
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease listen to "Falling Back To Earth" by Haken. So good. Such a crazy composition
First time hearing them. I like most of it but not all. But it’s obvious how talented they are. Two thumbs up to actually understanding the singer. 🤟🏻🤟🏻🍺
Cockroach King bro, I'm telling you it's a prog masterpiece. Love the channel man, rock on.
👍👍👍
Great breakdown as usual Geebs. Would be super cool if you could breakdown Bjork - Joga.
Never heard of these dudes, kinda spazzy and technical, dig it. Reminds me a little of Gizmachi back in the day.
Would love to see what you think of the band Bent Knee who've toured with Haken in the past. I'd say a great song by them would be "Being Human"
