  • The tops of these side tables that I picked up from Facebook Marketplace were covered with bumps indicative of water damage. In the dim light of the seller's garage I simply hadn't notice them until I got the tables home.
I tried a new-to-me technique that helps cover furniture blemishes - and it worked! And the end result is beautiful.

Oh my gosh! These turned out just beautifully. I did a faux wood grain top of a dresser too and I love the technique and the end result. You did a very good job explaining your process. Very teachable for anyone just starting out. Great job!

So very nice! Fyi, the shellac is an alcohol-based product, not oil. But, it can be used with any other product that I know of (someone let me know if there is a no-no product). You can shellac, then oil or oil, then shellac. You can use it over and under water-based products. It is the BEST product for sealing wood surfaces (imho) and priming and is part of a mean French polish. Love your videos.

Thank you! They're not perfect but the paint technique was a great way to hide the imperfections.

I have the same water damaged top of a dresser. This looks like a great repair. What kind of glaze did you use?

What would you do if a drawer had water damaged and was bowing out? The top I understand but doing a drawer with water damage has me a little stumped.

If it’s the same kind of surface damage, I would handle it the same way I did here. But if the wood panel as a whole is bowing forward, thats may not be salvageable. Can you send me a picture?
