- I had a badly scratched, knotty pine coffee table that was in bad need of a redo. With some sanding and application of two stains, I gave it a fashionable new look with a driftwood finish. It was soooooo easy and I loved the outcome. Let me know what you think.
Items used include:
Bahco 665 2-1/2" Carbide Scraper

Great finish! Well done for persevering until you got it right!!
Thanks 👍
I love your staging pics as much as I loved the piece itself! 😊
Thank you! That’s so sweet!
It came out really, really good and your staging was spot on! I love your goal of paying off the mortgage and retirement.
Thanks so much!
Such a pretty finish. A pine coffee table I sanded down oozed sap after I had stained and sealed it. Had to resand, use a heat gun to melt and scrape off the sap, then spray shellac before I could restain and seal. I read that some pine can bleed and ooze sap 30 years later after sanding! I hope you get to retire and do this more, it's great to see your projects and your ideas.
Gosh, that’s good to know about the sap. I think that after this project and one I just finished (an all pine IKEA dresser from a client), I will shy away from thrifting all pine furniture. It’s such a soft wood that it dents easily and no matter how much I sand, I can’t smooth out all of the marks.
This looks really good Amy, I love the finish you got by dry brushing that stain! It gave the finish a lot more depth 🤩👏😍
Thank you! I was pleased with the outcome too. And it was a great way to deal with all the scratches and knots.
I LOVE it!
