I always found it funny how the ps1 beat the Saturn in large part because it was 100 dollars cheaper and significantly easier to develop for yet when the ps3 came out it was 100 dollars more expensive than the Xbox 360 and harder to develop for.
We were from a working class family and we (in this case me and my brother) got it in Germany for Christmas from our a bit more affluent paternal grandma but we had to forfeit our birthday presents in that year for it. Box is also still there but likely not the plastics inside. I remember the launch era games were not very impressive. Tekken Tag Team was good in 2 player versus. PS: had a look inside and most is still there. Not sure if PAL ones are as valuable.

I've always thought 3d was ugly as fuck compared to 2d at that time. Rayman was peak 2D and looked way better than every 3d PS1 games. Since i saw PS1 games upscaled with emulators, now i know that the issue is the resolution more than the polygon count and the textures.
Yes Blu Ray is Sony and they stopped producing the format recently. Due to being so proprietary, other companies cannot simply produce them... well some Chinese ones probably will ignore the legal part.
WOW he does not have Red Faction or FFX/X2 FFXII or Resident Evil I forget what number or Suikoden . At least I did not see those games in there and there are a few more that I did not see in his awesome stack but can't recall there names but would remember them if I had seen them
FFXII has become kinda underrated. I loved it although the optional areas were very empty. Especially the combat system was great. I think both main games on the console had the problem with the ability progression boards being not explained well enough in relation to the individual characters.
Fun fact, sega was more powerful than nintendo in europe and as powerful in japan. Today, with all the american nintendo fanboys on youtube, it looks like nintendo was dominating. But sega was very strong overall. They lost a lot of support with their shitty addons for the megadrive and then doubling down with the release of the saturn right after the 32X. This gave sony an opening. Sony was also aware of their underdog position, so they courted the developers knowing that games make or break a console, way more than hardware. The branch making the playstation was affiliated with sony music. So they took the same approach. They sell walkmans because they have music to play on it. They sold playstation because they had games to play on it.
Wtf? Your avatar fits. In Japan, Sega didn't have any noticeable success with the Master System and the Mega Drive. The Saturn sold okay-ish in Japan, better than the N64, and almost 3/4 of Saturn games only got released in Japan as the Japanese still loved 2D. In Europe, it depended on the country. Nintendo was bigger in Germany while Sega was bigger in the UK. Sony Music didn't produce the Walkman. Sony Music was entirely a music business, not a hardware manufacturing one.
Your comment about the generation gap being more impressive at the time is bullshit. The PS5 is 5 times more powerfull than PS4. But the whole power budget went to 4 times the resolution. If the PS5 was a 1080p console, the games would look photorealistic. Back in the days, resolution was stagnating. They could focus on graphics more than resolution.
Ps5 is not 5x more powerful than a ps4 lol and they both look crappy compared to a proper PC anyways. But back in the days of the PS1 things were changing every year and there was massive improvements in capabilities in short order. PS1 to PS2 was far, far greater of an improment than say, PS3 to PS4, or even PS3 to PS5. There is diminishing returns on performance leaps from generation to generation.

20:40 Playing retro on a CRT looks right to me. The Tink4k comes close, but I still just use my CRT for the authentic look just how I remember.
Many games, especially 2D ones, used the quirks of CRT as essential part of the graphics.
