  • I'm immensely pleased with how this dye project turned out. I love the burgundy colour and the shine on this refurbished Louis Vuitton Alma PM in monogram. I hope once again I have shown that you can bring an old-looking bag back to life with a wee bit of TLC. I hope this long (too long? thanks for watching it all!) video inspires many of you to get your own fingers dirty!

The burgundy looks awesome! I have both dye colors and wasn't sure which I'd use for my recently purchased pre loved Alma. I went with black, but yours does look amazing! Another Job well Done! One bit of advice from my experience with cleaning the zippers... I start with full strength Brass cleaner on a tooth brush (somewhat sparingly), and brush about 3 inches at a time. Directly following, I rinse the tooth brush in clean water and go over that section 2-3 times again, rinsing the brush with water each time. This way you get a super clean polishing, and the clean water and tooth brush cleans any residue between the teeth and from the surrounding fabric. Use a clean dry cloth to dry and polish that section, then move on to the next section. No need to revisit the zipper again, and all is clean and (mostly) dry the first time through. The tooth brush does the work, and it goes really quickly as well. Maybe give it a try. The tooth brush cleans so much better than a q-tip. The zipper turns out sparkling! Hope that's helpful!

I love how your bag turned out! I'm not a fan of the light vachetta on the Alma to begin with (prefer the vintage patina), and always thought the really dark vintage patina was the most complimentary to the bag itself... But this burgundy is next level gorgeous! Bravo for your courage to do it and thank you for sharing! ❤

Great job! Many many thanks for the informative video! I am restoring two old bags, and with one I went the hard way and bought new leather and hand stitch. It takes a long time, but I just assumed dying leather was too complicated. I’m actually learning more about leather work. I’ve used some leather paint for a wallet I made, but after applying an acrylic top coat after giving the paint ample time to dry, it just remained too sticky, months afterwards. I guess too many layers. So it’s nice to learn that dye is not as difficult as I assumed.

I am thinking about buying a second hand alma pm but the condition of many of them are so bad. I never thought I could dye the leather. thanks for the wonderful idea. will buy one and try it.
