My brand new Margiela Tabis were ruined by a highly recommended shoe repair/restore place in Dallas (they mainly deal with high end designer). The leather is different colors, stiff and sticky. I guess I’ll have to remove all that paint and start over and do this myself! Glad a FB group I’m in recommended this video. It gave me hope and a list of items I need to buy
I’ve really been enjoying your paints and appreciate all of your information! So far, I have painted a bag, a fabric chair, a pair of boots, and I am now working on my fourth jean jacket using your paints. My question is, do I seal the paint on the jean jackets with your spray or brush on sealers, or do they need to be sealed or top coated at all when finished? Thank you!!
How about a video on painting the leather on a Louis Vuitton handbag. Sometime it gets to the point where that would be the best option. Great and informative video, thank you❤
We need a video of the Grex Genesis XGI3 airbrush combo, I wanted to purchase it the other day but after doing my research there isn’t a lot of really informative videos about not how it work but what it can do. Nice Q/A tho
Hi Angelus Paints - one question I'd love to know the answer to, is at what stage(s) do I need to apply the heat gun. 1) After using the prep/preparer? Seems unlikely 2) After each layer of paint? 3) After the finisher? How much to apply and what's the aim of it? To activate the paint bonding or to dry it etc?
The heat gun is only necessary when using paint mixed with 2-Soft to "Heat-Set" it. Otherwise the paint will not dry properly. However, many people like to use a heat gun in between coats of paint and/or finisher to speed up the drying process. Do be careful not to try to rush it too much and burn the shoes!
Is finisher removable with deglazer? If my painting has finisher can I paint again in top of that or start form zero with deglazer again? Want to remove it because it's too shiny tho is 600 BTW I would just add that any chemical is dangerous for health! Always paint in a ventilated area & with a paint mask if possible. 🤙🏻
Would you recommend doing a light “scuff sand” on a leather Bible? And if so, do I do it before the preparer and deglazer? I can mix different colors with each other to make other colors, right? I mean, I don’t have to use anything more to be able to do that? Aaaannnnnd….one last question…for now lol. Is it okay to mist water over the paint every now and then to keep it from drying out? Or will that change up the paint in some way? I’ve never used this type of paint before and don’t know much about it. I use regular acrylic paint and acrylic chalk paint…so this acrylic leather paint is my first rodeo.🤠 Thanks for this video!! Looking forward to giving this leather paint a try! 👍🏻
I would use the sanding method. It is the safest way when you are not sure how soft and delicate the leather is. No leather preparer is needed in that case. The paint will be fine once dry, however it wouldn't hurt it if you want to do that with the water.
@@AngelusBrand thanks for replying!! I really appreciate it! I’m quite impressed by the people who work for/with the Angelus company!! 🤩 Next is to try out the paint!! 👍🏻

What about curing the paint? Is it recommended to use a heat gun to dry the paint? What about leaving the shoe in a humid room for a longer drying time? Is it true that the longer it takes to dry the more durable the paint is? Just curious.
Yes the longer the dry time the more durable they will be. Humidity will always be bad for paint. Whatever dry room with a nice temperature above ~70 degrees would be ideal. You can use a heat gun to speed it up as well. We have even used a box before with a heat gun pointed at it but be careful to not burn the shoes.
Hi! I’ve never used leather paints before. My question is when use the paint on leather do I need to use any thinning agent. When I paint with acrylic paints on canvas I use water to thin the paint. What’s supposed to be used with leather paints?
When painting Angelus White I can’t seem to get any kind of coverage on my leather sneaker. I’m trying to paint small white flowers on top of a light purple colour but the white is almost going on transparent. Would it be normal to be needing to build up the white with multiple layers, like 4-5 layers?
How long does the paint need to cure before applying the finisher? And how long should one wait between coats of finisher? Also, if a furniture is painted- is there a recommended curing time before you use it (like other paints for example where it is usually a week or so..)? Thanks 😊😊
Depending on temperature will affect how long it takes paint and finishers to dry, so there is no specific time, just make sure to use thin coats and wait for each layer to be fully dried. After you are finished, we do recommend waiting at least 24 hours before using the customized product.
No mention of how to thin your gold pearlescent paint so you can add multiple coats that is recommended. Is Fiebings resolene compatible as a finish coat on a tooled leather belt that has areas painted with Angelus Gold leather paint.
I would like to know about what tool of type or brush I should use to apply the dye to suede leather shoes. I wanted to dye a pair of mid blue suede shoes to a tan or dark brown. Will that work? Thanks
I have a pair of vintage sendra Adams boots i would like to dye. One question i have thats not been answered is if the paint also dyes the seams of the shoe. The seams are light beige, if i paint the boots in a darker brown for example, will the seams also turn dark brown and stay like that? In the end there is a question about the midsoles, but it doesnt answer my question about the seams. Hopefully someone can reply to this from its own experience with the paint!🙏🙏🙏
Acrylic finisher is a scuff protectant but it is intended more for changing the sheen of leather articles. The more layers added the more layers of protection. If you are looking for a stronger scuff protectant then go with 4-Coat.But 4 coat is a lot more dull & dries a lot faster

The items I used were all Angelus- the leather preparer and deglazer, cream acrylic leather paint and finished with the acrylic finisher. Now, the handles of the purse have a sticky feeling to them. Hi, So I purchased the droppers for exact measurements when I'm mixing duller or finisher, about how many drops should I use in order to get the exact ratio as if I'm pouring either into the paint? I'm a beginner and I want to make sure I'm doin it right. Thanks hope u reply 🙂
It can be challenging to get the exact ratios. As an example, if you are using 2 ml of paint, you can use one full serving of the dropper since our dropper is 0.2 ml.
You can use them on leather car seats! Our CEO did his whole seats himself and it came out great. We have one video painting some details on Audi seats on our page 😃
@@AngelusBrand Do you mean the video where they paint just the logo? I am hoping to do large areas and need pointers on how to apply since the alcohol based dye dries very fast and overlapping will affect color, ie, make stripes before any rub out can take place.
Got a question that doesn't seem to be covered here. Let's say I want to do a project involving veg-tanned leather, which will be tooled and stamped in various ways to create patterns, textures, and designs. But here's the thing: I want the leather to be white. Now, getting chrome tanned leather in white is pretty simple, but chrome tanned leather cannot be tooled. Nor is it possible to "dye" leather white because that's not how white works. So my question is how can one achieve a white finish to a leather project that will be seeing a LOT of wear? To be specific, I'm talking about a wrestling championship belt, like the WWE Intercontinental Championship; a finished product that is going to see a lot of travel (being stuffed into luggage with or without a protective cloth sleeve), a lot of flexing, bending, even "folding" (as much as one can "fold" 5-9oz. leather), as well as likely being used more than once as a blunt-force weapon. Simply put, it needs to be able to take a beating. Dye isn't an option as I mentioned, and paint under those conditions is highly likely to crack, split, or flake off entirely. I've found only a couple videos of people whitening leather by highly diluting the paint (9:1 water to paint ratio) and brushing on 3-4 coats (letting it dry completely between coats), upping the amount of paint of paint in the mix, 3-4 more coats, and keep repeating that process to the point of having applied literally dozens of coats over the course of several hours before seeing even marginal results, days before it's noticeably white, and several coats more for good measure so it doesn't scratch off instantly. There has to be a faster way. I had a theory that maybe "cutting" white paint with the "neutral" dye instead of water (or at least adding it to the mix) might help the paint permeate and speed up the process but I don't know if acrylic paint CAN mix with the dye compound. And I don't know how such a mixture (or even the "slow build-up method I found others using) might affect the tooling. I don't want to end up losing any of the detail in the process. Any suggestions on how to to make tooled, veg-tanned leather a crisp, satin/glossy white?
hi! I have a super nice suede blazer. it's a tan color and I want to dye it a med/dark brown. 1. should I go with a dark brown to end up with a medium brown finish color? 2. powder or liquid? 3. how much dye would I need? it's a 42R. 4. what technique should I use? A. paint with a sprayer. B. dab or paint with dauber or brush. C. make a tub of dye and dip the whole thing in. D.if this one, do I need to prepare by soaking in soda ash solution?E. do you sell the soda ash? F. I guess the dye would also color the lining? 5. do you guys offer a how to, or a tutorial video about this? thank you very much. kemble.
That's a great idea for a video! We do have customizers come in wearing their customs and they look amazing. Again, your preparation of the shoe prior to painting is key.
I just received Angelus Jet Black Leather Dye as a couple of shoes have the leather and color have rubbed off on the front end of the shoe. I'm looking forward to using the dye, it didn't come with a dabber, so I'll use a piece of rubber sponge. That's disappointing.
You would not need to do that since that white will be FLAT already. However adding more will be fine, it will just make the finish even flatter. I recommend no more than 1-2%

I have a Dark Gray paint, I want it slightly darker. Should I mix, or Could I mix Matte Black and then paint OR Do I paint the matte black first then apply the Dark Grey?
You can mix to create your own colors! If you paint the black first, the dark grey will just cover and it would look the same as if you never used black
Hi! I have a question: I used the deglazer and painted a chair with 3 layers. It got a bit too dark strong colour and I want to repaint it . Can I just go over with lighter version without using deglazer again? I did not put final coating yet and between layers would be 48 hours max. Let me please know!
I have vegan doc martins. If I use 2 hard will it not crack? I just finished real docs with your paint and finisher and these need redone now. I used paint markers before I found your paint and of course they wore pretty hard. Thanks!
The 2-Hard will harden the paint onto the surface. This will make the paint less flexible. With that in mind, we recommend the paint alone. You can sand the area as well, that will give you a better surface to apply the paint to.
Would you recommend me to use a deglazer to remove the mink oil from leather boots before dyeing? Thank you for the video, it solved many of my questions!
Hey, hey! love your products and this video was good refresher after quite the hiatus I took. Which brings me to my personal question that wasn't addressed in this video NOR could I find a definitive and sure-fire answer elsewhere. My hiatus was quite long (about a year), and I've kept all my materials and paints. All of the paints that were opened prior to have gotten lumpy and, in some cases, have a marshmallow consistency. How do I go about bringing the paint back to it's original form without ruining the color? As for the marshmallow consistency, is it over for those particular paints and need to be replace?
@@Barbie_jb So here's what was told to me. Take note I'm paraphrasing here, it's been a while since I was given this information, but I'll do my best. Essentially what had happened to the paint, was that the "marshmallow" consistency was an indication that the paint had separated like expired milk. Once this occurs in old paint, there is no helping it. Ultimately, I had to throw out ALL of my supplies since I could no longer use them. Looking back, my hiatus was longer than a year to most of the paints I haven't gotten a chance to use yet. However, had there been only some clumps to deal with, the solution is adding a bit of 2-thin to the paint a little at a time until the clumps were completely gone. So whatever I did use that had clumps in them became a chore getting all the clumps out, so I just tossed them as well. I hope this helps XD
@@Hussuki thanks for sharing this!! So when referring to marshmallows and paint, it's not a good thing...but marshmallows, in general, are yummy! 😉 So sorry to hear that you had to throw away all your paints...they're quite an investment. 💸 Anyways, thanks again for sharing this! Now I know what to do if I let them sit for too long. I guess maybe if they have been setting for a while, shake them up a bit so they don't mess up? 🤷🏻♀️ Wouldn’t hurt to try I guess. 👍🏻 🤗

Hi thanks for this video. I want to color or paint the yellow mesh cage area on my Jordan 4 Cement Whites. Do I need to take any special preparation steps for this? Do I need to strip the yellowing away?
Using dyes to change a color is a little tricky. They are not meant to change, but to restore a color of the like. Once you apply the black, it may only turn a deep brown because of the white base.
It would but you would need to do a thorough cleaning once you dyed it. We would worry how the dye goes into the fabric long term as it may leach a bit.
What happens if I don't heat the paint mixed with 2-soft? Will the paint fall apart? I'm planning on repainting the pleather clothes of my 1/6 scale figure but that piece doesn't come off, and I'm not comfortable blowing hot air on the figure itself :( Also, can we mix the 2-soft with finishers?
From what I’ve studied and learned it’s personal preference. I’ve found there is no universal answer I’ve searched too. Some say no heat gun ever. Some say heat gun used carefully is fine. Some say hair dryer on cool no heat gun. Some say natural drying time only. I’ve asked 10 different customizes. I went with 20 Min air dry per layer
I wish you answered if we can paint faux leather flexible shoes (like sock boots). I've been trying over and over with mine and they 100% always crack within the first minutes of use. sad. but I've seen other people paint on faux leather boots and they turn out fine. so that's why I have that question. could you please do a tutorial for those?
This is a tough one since they are so flexible and not a leather that is sturdy to carry the paint. There are many steps you can take to prevent the cracking. Aside from the sanding, and leather preparer, you can also use an adhesion promoter. That will also allow the paint to sit on the surface a little better. Please make sure to reach out to us at info@angelusdirect.com so that your answer is attended to quickly.
Can you use more than 1 additive at a time? Like duller and 2 hard? I wanted to use the purple as a base coat for my glitter bottom heels. Should I apply finisher before adding my glitter/mod podge to prevent lifting or bleeding? Any suggestions are welcome.

5. do you guys offer a how to, or a tutorial video about this?
thank you very much.
kemble.
Hi Kemble! email us a info@angelusdirect.com so that we can assist you more in depth there.
It's a good thing that suede and normal dyes can be mixed since gray dye seems to not exist.
I woudlnt use leather dye on suede but aye do what thou wilt
Can you mix 2 thin into finisher? The matte 4 coat is too thick to spray in my airbrush
Ok so my project is repainting a tattoo chair. What would be the correct process of that?
Is there any videos of shoes painted that have actually been worn and used? I just really want to know how well this paint holds up.
Hi why is there’s no Magnets pink or fuchsia pink? Also can you use leather dye over suede for women shoes?
Please send us your question to info@angelusdirect.com thank you!
Hey, can i use angelus matte acrylic finisher on a custom jeans?
Do i should mix flat white with duller? Or no need because flat white is already no shine? Thanks for the answer.
You would not need to do that since that white will be FLAT already. However adding more will be fine, it will just make the finish even flatter. I recommend no more than 1-2%
Thank you so much!!!
What if I wanted to use the uni blue leather paint to bring back the color on my suede jordan unc 6s? Bad idea or it can be done?
Please answer this, I need help. Should I use Angelus leather paint or Angelus leather dye to change the color of my patent leather heels ?
And how is one better than the other ? Please really need help🙏🙏
Please email us at info@angelusdirect.com so that we can go over it more in depth for you.
Question for Angelus: what is the leather paint for Jordan 1 Chicago Red. Is it fire red? A combo of fire and chili? Please help for my touch up project.
Here's a combination of a few colors we have come up with that are REALLY CLOSE to a match. Keep in mind that there are different years of this shoe, so the color will vary from year to year.
Scarlet Red-60%
Red-30%
Hot Pink- 10%
I have a Dark Gray paint, I want it slightly darker. Should I mix, or Could I mix Matte Black and then paint OR Do I paint the matte black first then apply the Dark Grey?
You can mix to create your own colors! If you paint the black first, the dark grey will just cover and it would look the same as if you never used black
If I’m airbrushing a canvas sneaker, like Vans, do I use 2-soft, as well as 2-thin (if airbrush needle is to small and I need to thin out?). Thank you
You can use one or the other, not both. The 2-Soft will work as a thinner for you.
Hi! I have a question:
I used the deglazer and painted a chair with 3 layers. It got a bit too dark strong colour and I want to repaint it . Can I just go over with lighter version without using deglazer again? I did not put final coating yet and between layers would be 48 hours max. Let me please know!
You can add maybe 1-3 more layers. I would not overdo that.
Big Joe!!
Yes. That would be the perfect item for that application. You need to take off the oils in order for the dye to penetrate into the leather nicely.
Hey, hey! love your products and this video was good refresher after quite the hiatus I took.
Hey there! it really depends on how you store them. Email us at info@angelusdirect.com and send some photos there.
@@AngelusBrand Thank you, I got it looked into.
Well, I would love to know the answers too!! Would y’all mind sharing your knowledge pretty please? 🤞🏻☺️🤍

I have a pair of black leather boots that I want to be purple. If I use the Angelus Leather Preparer Deglazer first, will I succeed in using the Angelus Pearlescent Leather Paint to make them purple?
Yes! please feel free to ask more questions at info@angelusdirect.com
Hey guys I was wondering can I also paint a fabric sofa this way ? Will it crack or peal ??? Will it remain sticky ?

Im im using felt do i need to prep the shoe
Hi thanks for this video. I want to color or paint the yellow mesh cage area on my Jordan 4 Cement Whites. Do I need to take any special preparation steps for this? Do I need to strip the yellowing away?
If the paint starts to harden in the bottle or clump up can you revive it??
When using leather dye on sneaker (black dye to white leather), how many coats is recommended? Is 1 coat of leather dye enough?
Using dyes to change a color is a little tricky. They are not meant to change, but to restore a color of the like. Once you apply the black, it may only turn a deep brown because of the white base.
Random question would the suede dye work on velvet fabric without loosing the feel of the fabric
It would but you would need to do a thorough cleaning once you dyed it. We would worry how the dye goes into the fabric long term as it may leach a bit.
What happens if I don't heat the paint mixed with 2-soft? Will the paint fall apart?
I'm planning on repainting the pleather clothes of my 1/6 scale figure but that piece doesn't come off, and I'm not comfortable blowing hot air on the figure itself :(
Also, can we mix the 2-soft with finishers?
For drying the paint, do you preffer dry it with heat gun or hair dryer?
From what I’ve studied and learned it’s personal preference. I’ve found there is no universal answer I’ve searched too. Some say no heat gun ever. Some say heat gun used carefully is fine. Some say hair dryer on cool no heat gun. Some say natural drying time only. I’ve asked 10 different customizes. I went with 20
Min air dry per layer
@@SneakCleaners519So air-dry is okay too?
Please email us at info@angelusdirect.com we would like to make sure we understand what you need and help you there.
Can I use the paint on faux leather? If yes, how to prepare it? Many thanks!
Of course! You would prepare as you would for a traditional leather. If you have any questions regarding that, please contact us at info@angelusdirect.com
@@AngelusBrand in synthetic or faux leather is necessary to sand?
I’m planning to do painting drop custom on a (black)suede shoes. Than do I have to mix 2 soft into a paint I want to splash on?
The acrylic paint on suede will ruin the texture of that soft feel. We don't recommend paint on suede, just know what it may turn out like.
Great video!
We hope this helps to clear up any uncertainty!
If customizing Crocs would you recommend the angelus hardner?
Definitely not. If anything they need to be as flexible as possible.
So is just plain angelus paint or a smidge of thinner better?
Thanks 😊
Can you wash like shirts or sweaters with angelus paint on it
Once it's dry, you sure can!
Can I dye a wig with it?
