  • British Heart Foundation (BHF) celebrated its 6th annual Heart Hero Awards on Wednesday 6 December 2023 at Glaziers Hall in London.
The annual awards celebrate the incredible supporters who go above and beyond for BHF, including those who have a connection to BHF’s cause while raising much needed funds through innovative and engaging ways, as well as raising awareness of heart and circulatory disease.
Our Fundraising Hero category celebrates anyone who has gone the extra mile to raise money to help power BHF’s vital lifesaving research.
Pat Churnside’s entire family has been touched by heart disease - including her mum who was one of 9 children who all have heart related illnesses.
In 2008, Pat started raising funds after losing her parents to heart disease before they reached the age of 60.
Initially fundraising alone, Pat corralled the support of local organisations and church and is now the founding member and treasurer of the Amber Valley Fundraising Group.
From organising tombolas to bucket collections, swimathons to ferret racing, Pat has raised over £66,000 and counting toward BHF science into heart and circulatory disease.
