Socktober might be the impetus I need to finally mend the bag of socks I've been procrastinating on! It's not spinning, knitting, crocheting, or even darning because I do stretchy fabric patches (they're thin store-bought socks), but it's still SOCKS!
I'm in awe of your sock yarn! I'm 2 months into a 3-ply sock spinning project and wondering how in the heck people are able to spin so much so quickly!
One of my favourite spooktober projects ever must have been the skull shawl I crocheted following Fiber Spider’s tutorial on UA-cam. To this day it remains one of my daughter’s winter favourites to wear… every day. I made it for her to wear to school for Halloween, over her costume. The pattern somehow isn’t overly obvious, most people have to look twice to notice the lace pattern actually consists of multiple interconnected skulls. One of the things I plan on making with my undyed hand spun naturally white yarn, is a skull shawl for myself. Because I happen to like tongue-in-cheek accessorising and the idea is immensely appealing to me to hustle show up to the office rocking that shawl… and waiting to see how long it takes people to notice the pattern. Probably next Spooktober. Too many projects, too little time! Sigh…
It must be kismet! I didn't know Socktober was a thing, but I'm halfway through knitting my first ever pair. They're a Christmas present, so I definitely need to stay on task. Now I have the extra push to finish before the end of the month.
hmmmm this makes me think... wool of the bonte schaap, spun randomly, in an actual three-ply yarn... that may make some wonderful crazy sock yarn! And I am desperately in need of a spinning project with a goal attached to it to keep me motivated.... You give me so many good ideas!
I thought you would like to know because it is definitely a "read it in English but never heard pronounced" thing, but epitome is pronounced uh pi tuh mee. I did the same thing when I was young and many native speakers incorrectly pronounce it eh pi tome too because it's a more obscure word. English is a weird language that often makes no sense haha I hope this comes off as helpful and not me trying to correct or police your language!
Well, now at least now you know that I read :D it's not easy with English being only one of 3 languages I speak, next to Dutch and French, sometimes pronounciations of the different languages get mixed up too. But thank you for the clear phonetic transcription.
Native English speaker here: I was in highschool before I realized that the written word epitome and the spoken word eh-pit-oh-me was the same word. Same with segue. 🤷

Mmm those are some yummy colours, turned out super comforting if that makes sense! Cant wait to see it knit up, what weight did you achieve? Coincidentally I started spinning a sock yarn of my own a couple of days ago! Its gonna be my first try at one, and Im also doing a true 3-ply on a newly acquired spindle where I can pop the shafts on and off :) it is also my first time using BFL, sooo soft
I love your yarn and sock yarn needs. To be colourful, just to let you know I have found that the centre of the toilet roll fits perfectly over the centre of your ball winder, really handy some of the time. I just pit it on before I start winding the ball and write the information on the top edged, I also cut a couple of tiny slits in the top edge to hold the ends of the yarn, great for storage,or when you are doing a sweaters worth and want to keep tack of the first and last skeins to ply them together
@@MijnWolden I ended up starting on a sweater for my daughter. The bit of yarn I already spun up from the fiber I got at the dag van de wol was beckoning me to make something. I still need to spin more for a whole sweater of course, but that shouldn't be a problem 😁
There is a word in Australian Aboriginal English, "goodways", that means, "Please don't take this the wrong way." So, may I preface this comment with Goodways? Your English is excellent, except for one word that tricks you into pronouncing it as if it had English origins. That word is epitome. Because it comes from Greek, it's pronounced "eh pit oh me" in English. Don't worry, for years I thought Penelope was pronounced "Penny lope". And I was surprised to discover that "quinoa" is not pronounced "Quinn Noah". And now I'm going to see if I can find the video in which you knit that chaos yarn into socks.
you're not the first one to help me with this word, and if you listen closely to my latest video (the socks), you'll hear that I have changed my wicked ways 😉 As one other commenter said: it's probably a case of knowing a word only from reading it, which does indicate that I read 😁 My vernacular is Flemish Dutch, then as 10 year olds we learn French, and only at age 14 English gets thrown in the mix at school (and German at 16, it's great living in a country with 3 official languages) So I think actually I might have guessed the pronounciation from how I thought you would say it in French?
@@MijnWolden: You are fast on the draw. I watched the next video and noticed that you had fixed the pronunciation and I was coming back here to delete this comment. Love the socks, by the way.
What are you crafting this fall? Any make alongs you've joined?
I'm drum carding some 'glow in the dark' polyester spiderweb in with my scraps to make some randomly glow in the dark hats.
That sounds so cool!
@@MijnWolden I thought about doing socks, but I don't think they would get enough uv exposure to glow at night.
Glow in the dark hats are more practical in winter than glow in the dark socks I think
Inspiration is always around the corner

I got 270 meters for 50 grams, so I presume that's fingering weight, almost leaning towards lace weight.
I still don't know what to make for spoocktober 😟 this was inspiering though, I really want to make something now, I just don't know what yet...
Maybe your dag van de wol treasures can inspire a project?
