Very nice truck!! I had a late build 199 GMC 1500 SLT Fleetside with the H.O. 5.7 Vortec (These had a 110 MPH speedometer) I bought from a lawyer as a teen and regretted selling it ever since..

Thanks! Blackbear tuned with headers, high flow cats and true dual exhaust really woke up the ol vortec. Would like to put a larger cam in but that just snowballs into might as well do aluminum heads, etc etc. it still runs very well so will try to hold off on the engine modding. I just bought a 99 / 2000 Escalade cluster on eBay that should bolt in. These clusters have 120mph speedometer and white needles.

Gorgeous truck! The mirrors look great and I like the ABS trick..You know your stuff and covered most of the issues I've had with my 98 and 99. Also on mine ground issues, TPS, VSS 4wd actuator/front diff solenoid, bouncy fuel gauges. Overall though they are great trucks.

Thanks. The GMT400’s are excellent trucks with very few issues. Forgot to mention it’s had 2 replacement fuel pumps.

Nice truck except for the colour (my opinion). I have a very similar GMC version and I can give you a few more common problems, at least in my area. One is rust in the front fender bottoms and the extended cab bottoms. I can see that's because of a lack of drain holes in these places. So I drilled my own drain holes. Some of them have rust out over the rear wheel wells but not mine, at least not yet. Another thing I really hate about them is that large plastic grille, held on by only a couple of screws at the top and one in the middle. Then it hooks into that plastic valence strip at the bottom. And if you hit that front bumper just a little too hard, you're going to crack that plastic strip and probably break the grille attaching points at the bottom. I couldn't understand why my truck's grille was loose at the bottom when I bought it. Then I found out and it was replacement time. That optional rubber strip across the top of the bumper with the plastic chrome insert strip is too easy to damage as well. There's more but I can't deny that this truck has too much going for it in terms of style and engine dependability. It's just too delicate, that's all.
