    Man it needs a Corvette servo to fix that sluggish shifting. I never thought mine sucked till the trans went out and when I got it rebuilt I put one in, and now WOT slams through the gears. Mostly 1-2 and 2-3. It’s definitely worth it

      I’ve thought about doing the servo mod but don’t want to kill the original trans with over 218k on it. The tune firmed up the shifts but compared to the newly rebuilt trans in my 03 suburban the high mileage trans in this truck does shift soft.

      @@doctube2020 The servo will do the opposite of killing it. The “soft” shifting it does now is what’s wearing it out. The servo will provide better apply pressure, which means there’s less time of “slipping” inside the trans prolonging the life. It doesn’t shift “crazy hard” until like WIDE open if you’re going through the gears. It’s easy to cruise around with too!

      @@doctube2020 Yes get a servo 2nd is enough. Do 4th when you rebuild if you ever do. Performance tech btw. I own a 98 with a built 4l60e

      Is it ok to tow with a servo? I occasionally tow my enclosed trailer that weighs 3.5 - 4k lbs.

    • @user-eb9zm8qk9j
      @user-eb9zm8qk9j 5 місяців тому +1

      @@doctube2020 Yes be even better because when it shifts it will have more holding power in gears. Aka you can tow more before you burn up transmission clutches. And transmission will also last longer.

    Nice truck.
    I have a 99 suburban in similar shape.

      Thanks! Got to love the southwest for rust free vehicles but the sun will bake the paint off. I’ve seen some clean and several well used 88-99 GMT400 and 2000-2007 GMT800. Lots still on the road.

    Do a 0411 swap that cheap black box with the pcm from 00-02 Chevy van
    And redo L31 tune
    Delete vats
    Disable that 5800 rpm range to wide open
    And a million other things can be tuned. The black box is limited it’l wake up big time

    How did your fuel economy change when adding the new exhaust and near tuning??
    Cheers

      It’s about the same but I can get 17-18 if I drive 65 on the highway. In theory it should slightly increase mpg since the tune maxes out ignition timing amongst other improvements like less torque management = more power to the wheels.

    I actually just got an obs vortec that had Been turned into a 383 stroker by the old owner any advice on tunes/timing

      I've had a good experience with blackbeartuning. I've noticed a bigger difference with their tune vs a off the shelf tuner you order like hypertech.

      Pcmperformance is also a good place to consider. You should do a 0411 pcm swap

    Which one of your trucks do think is tge fastest? Which one has yhe best power?

    • @doctube2020
      @doctube2020  9 місяців тому

      The 97 k1500 was faster than 79 K10 before I put new blueprint engine in. Now 79 K10 is faster than 97 even with the old 3 speed auto. Of course the 2018 Sierra beats them all with 6.2L and 8 speed auto.

      Ha, that exhaust was put on a few years after it was new. It’s close yes but No damage to tire. But that tire is now 27 yeas old!

    I would recommend adding a new oil pump to the mix 40 at 5800 rpm is a tad insufficient. Just my 2 cents

    • @doctube2020
      @doctube2020  10 місяців тому +2

      Good eye, I remember it going higher than 40psi in the past. I’m going to try a new oil pressure sensor first. I’ll also check the gauge with my odb2 scanner to see if it matches

    • @doctube2020
      @doctube2020  9 місяців тому

      Update: I replaced the oil pressure sensor and it now shows about 55 - 60 psi at high RPM. The old sensor was accurate when cold oil temps but when warm it wouldn’t go past 40psi. The old sensor broke in half when I removed it but it’s 26 years old.

      @@doctube2020Delete the oil cooler lines from the truck off the radiator and remove the housing above the oil filter and bypass it with a melling oil filter adapter !!
      You’ll gain a ton of oil pressure. They claim you need them lines for towing but it’s subject to opinion everyone deletes them they always end up leaking …. No one’s truck oil is any the bit cooler with them bulky lines in the way , it’s a myth in my opinion. I’ve had great experience bypassing them on all my Chevy. If that was a 2500/3500 series Obs Tow rig then I’d say keep them but I’m a believe in the 1500s there useless

    Never will understand why people use BlackBear for these trucks. About the same as using Brian Harris for a TBI. I give your 4L60E about 10K miles or less before it fails.
