I was on a boy scout campout one weekend in the fall of 1990. Some of the older guys were singing a song i'd never heard before. Something about friends in low places. I asked what they were singing. "Garth Brooks" was the reply. I started laughing, "Garth Brooks! Ha! Who names their kid Garth??? Ha! Garth is the evil twin of Michael Knight!" they weren't as amused as I. Ever since then i've always associated Knight Rider with Garth Brooks.
Something of interesting note: Back in the 80's "standards and practices would not allow programing that showed someone directly shooting at someone to be shown during primetime, knowing kids would be watching. See: 3:17 as an example. It's why no one in Knight Rider, A-Team, and Dukes of Hazard ever got shot.
mindeloman- Really???... I literally never knew anything of that, or, would've literally ever thought of such a thing. Never had a clue... I learned something new, today because of you.
I always had an idea for an episode of Knight Rider that someone would take KARRs AI and put in Goliath and they would team up.to try and destroy Michael and KITT
Considering Karrs hatred of Kitt is equal to Garthes hatred of Michael, that would have been a good team. However instead of just using Karrs AI, why not add his weapons and tracking systems.
1tiercel I'll have to see if I can find that! Though I have to say I've never been much of a fan of stereotypically-evil KARR beyond the aesthetics. I loved the idea of KARR simply being programmed for self-preservation (an entirely logical approach for someone attempting to create an AI that truly mimics human behavior) and how the result of it can _appear_ evil. It says something about society and the necessity for altruism in a way that you'd more expect of sci-fi like OS Star Trek than action sci-fi like Knight Rider. I think with the right writer and vision, there's a story to tell in there that would give KARR the kind of pathos you don't normally get for villains. And yeah, that would make KARR into sort of foil for Garthe and sort of unwilling allies.
April Brooks- I agree. That would be nice... If you can put K.A.R.R. & K.I.T.T. in the 'Grand Theft Auto' games, who says that you can't do that with Goliath?...
@@akosbarati2239 it's a shame because they killed off arguably the greatest villain on the show. Imagine a season 3 episode with Garthe and KARR. Both original rejects hell bent on destroying their replacements

The only thing missing was Garthe twirling his mustache and laughing maniacally as he fired his rockets - without that how were we to know he was also a baddie?
Take into consideration that this was the Star Wars era, when the Pentagon peddled in various fairy tales to scare the Soviets into believing things like that were actually real.
I think this is might be the Knight Rider episode where they finally show what's behind the door in the back of the F.L.A.G. Mobile trailer and it wasn't just a painted on door. :) I always thought it was an office.
Here is an interesting question. What is the likelihood of anybody getting those camera shots in the real world? I mean, a camera just happens to be looking right there when the truck comes through the door and they can view it?
Never was a big fan of the Hoff, but i gotta admit he did a stellar job in this dual role, few actors can pull off a dual role, but The Hoff really made it work as Michael and Garthe.
It wasn't handled very well, but the idea was supposed to be that the gas coming out of the front of Goliath was some sort of agent to knock out all the guards. That's why Garthe and his men were all wearing gas masks. They only had to keep them at bay until they all were knocked out.

Well, no, since with this story, if you take away the sci-fi elements, it is the Truth in Television trope. Back in the '80s, the front lines started to blur on whom the US was supporting or opposing, so the Reagan Administration introduced sanctions on many nations regarding electronics, and its building parts to prevent them from being reverse-engineered. This was shot at a time when Rhodesia split off from South Africa, following the events of South Africa's meddling into the Angolan Civil War, which was indirectly supported by the US. Garth knew that merely by cooperating with the blacklisted regime that freed him he already had committed treason (plus the smuggling enemy combatants into the US part), but he wasn't stupid, he knew if he tried to commercially buy up electronic parts, he'd need a mob-like web of shell companies, which takes time, time, that he did not have. He cooked up the plan with his mother to seduce or coerce enough high ranking military officials (or even bribe them, provided they find soldiers who disagreed with how Iran-CONTRA was handled, and the later disavowing of apartheid also did not sit well with fierce anticommunists) so they grant access to secrets, like the Red Bluff. Garth's inherent nature of a gambler and his mad chase to gain his father's approval was that steered him toward becoming a soldier of fortune, and what prompted Wilton to "reconstruct" Garth with the interior image of a virtuous man.
I wish they would've done an episode with Garthe driving Karr. That way they would both argue like dogs. You know Garthe & Karr would make a great team.
The base had the missiles all packed up and ready to go for them to pick up right inside the front doors. So nice of our military. Garthe fires off 4 rockets at the door and at @2:45 all the rockets are back in their pods. Then @2:53 as the Golliath breaks through the door, there are 16 holes from rocket hits. 🤣🤣😂
The missile tubes could've been rigged to fit a reloadable missile per each silo. Kind of how cartridge work for a gun, when one bullet gets fired, another pops up. In this case, a reloadable missle is hidden between each silos. Those rockets are very skinny so it's possible. Each rocket might have several warheads on each tip, kind of like how a nuke is.
1st volley was about 3-4 misses, but next camera shot of the door showed plenty more holes from missed strikes…. Guard fell over / passed out way before Goliath’s gas went in his direction… 🚚🚛
