Pentatonix Bohemian Rhapsody Insights: So, some things to know about this cover and video: -It took PTX years to get the arrangement to where they felt they could do the original masterpiece justice. -The cover, and especially the video, was meant to be an homage to Queen. Some of the moments paying respect were: The mono-recording of the line "easy come, easy go" followed by the panning of the voices from left to right on the line "little high, little low" (which is how the original was recorded), obviously the flashlights being used to mimic the lighting on the operatic part of the original video, the four shooting stars to represent the four members of Queen, as well as acknowledge the fact that Dr. Brian May is an astrophysicist, and the overhead shot of them lying on the couch is to represent the Sheer Heart Attack album cover. -The megaphone was just a prop. It is not needed to reproduce the electric guitar distortion. -PTX can, and does, perform this live with no backing track...something even Queen and the Great Freddie Mercury could not do. -Freddy once said he didn't care what people did with his music as long as they "...don't make it boring, darling!", so I think he would absolutely approve. -The overall video--with the "living room" and couch--is an homage to Pentatonix's own journey as a group. They lost their record deal right after winning the Sing Off and moving to LA, so they started putting out videos on UA-cam, performing covers. They would sit on the couch in Kevin (beatboxer) and Avi's (bass) living room and just record themselves on Mitch's (counter tenor who took the lead on this song) iPad. Some of their earliest videos went viral and they eventually were able to secure a new deal, record an EP, go on tour, release chart-topping albums and win three Grammy awards...so they moved out of the living room and down this new, unknown road. At the end of the day, though, they're still the same choir-nerds they've always been; just happy to sit together on a couch and sing. Also when Brian Mays heard it... then he posted it on his web site with the word "ENJOY”.
@@sheilatumpach2112does he still? I know when he and Scott lived together he had a cat (Wyatt blue iirc?) but has to rehome him because he was never home enough to take care of him.
Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Pentatonix. It’s an amazing journey. They cover almost any genre of music you can think of and have written and performed amazing originals as well. Three Grammy wins and a 5th Grammy nomination just announced a week ago. They are the undisputed best acapella group in the world. Amazing individual talents who together create the most beautiful, amazing and CREATIVE arrangements and videos. Everything cover they do they put their own PTX flair onto it creating an upgrade to the song they cover, and they don’t record anything they cannot do live. They r our the world and the US constantly and work harder than any group in the music industry. Watch some of the reaction videos to them by vocal teachers and coaches who can point out all the things that make them so very special. Approval from those who know what great voices really entail.
My personal favorite PTX changes every few days and currently it's Havana. Just changed from Can't Hold Us from last week. ANYTHING you pick to listen to is okay with us.
In PTX parlance, Kevin is a "human 808," and Avi IS a bass guitar. In many recordings you will see Avi playing air guitar as he's singing the bass guitar line. The creativity and attention to detail with Pentatonix is top drawer. Such an excellent reaction! Many of their songs move us the same way. Looking forward to seeing more of you and PTX. Liked and subbed.
YES, all A CAPPELLA ! no instruments just voices. PTX is EPIC!!!! They have a great way of taking any song and making it their own but also paying homage to the original artist. Please do more reactions to their songs, BUT please learn their names and parts. They deserve that respect. Kirstie mezzo soprano, Mitch high tenor, Scott baritone/bass, Avi bass, Kevin beatboxer/ cellist/ tenor. PTX has a HUGE catalogue of songs and videos, so pick ANYTHING and you won't be disappointed. Keep 'em comin', and ENJOY !!
Thank you for noticing lol! Just to let you know as I’m trying to tell all PTX fans on my channel, I’ve started a PTX fan club tier on my patreon and we’ve already had 6 PTX fans join! There’s gonna be exclusive content and content that won’t be affected by copyright on there too so no filters or anything! Just a heads up! Thank you for your comment and for enjoying the video. 🙏🏻
Welcome to one of the best rabbit holes. I'm a 1st year Pentaholic. I just went to a concert in August. Absolutely fenominal show. Love your reactions ❤🤗
I can imagine! Any chance you could give me the details of which concert it was with the date? Maybe some of the performances were professionally recorded and I could do some reactions to them just for you! 😊
@@YorkshiremanReacts26 Aug 7 or 9th in Jacksonville Florida, from there they went to Tampa Florida. They are getting ready for their Christmas Tour. You will not be disappointed. Try watching Daft Punk next. It will blow your mind. Especially with Kevin's bboxing. They won a Grammy for it. 😊❤🤗
Lol I really don’t, I sound like a dying cat! Listen to these sound test videos I uploaded a while ago to ask people if my microphone sounded good enough. I'm sure someone has told you but just in case, Sir Brian May did see it and gave them his approval. I love your appreciation for their attention to and respect for the original.
Hello from a Pentaholic in Florida, USA. UA-cam just recommended your channel to me today and I watched your reaction to Hallelujah. You did an awesome job, and I read your comment that your second reaction to them wasn’t getting any views. So now I’m searching for any and all PTX you’ve done, and I’ve also subscribed. I promise to keep watching as long as you keep reacting to the most awesome a cappella group in the world!
Thank you so much Susan! I really appreciate the love and I’m so excited to get moving on this new journey of discovery! Through doing reactions I’ve discovered Dimash, Nightwish and now, Pentatonix! Surely it can’t get any better!
Same here! Just popped up in my recommendeations today. Watched Hallelujah, Subscribed for more PTX, and came here! Loved your reaction and details you pointed out from the original.
Enjoy your trip down the acapella Pentatonix rabbit hole....and when you are ready to see some more acapella bands, check out the group called Home Free. A good place to start is their cover of Man of Constant Sorry, but, it's only a beginning! You will find your subscriber numbers improve dramatically once you start down the Home Free road! Loved your reaction to Bohemian Rhapsody. @@YorkshiremanReacts26
New subscriber here, too!! I am also from Florida, USA. Welcome to the wonderful world of Pentatonix. You will get lots of recommendations, but in all honesty , all Pentatonix songs are amazing. Every time you hear a new one, you will think, "This one is my new favorite." I am looking forward to watching your reactions to Pentatonix. Peace and Blessings from Florida.
These guys are just flippin amazing alien unicorns! It took them 5 years to feel ready to do this song and to do it the justice that it deserves. They are all massive Queen fans. Brian May, lead guitarist from Queen, heard this song when it came out and posted a link to his socials with the one word comment 'Enjoy!' I feel like that is giving Queen's Seal of Approval right there! They also inserted a lot of references and easter eggs into this video in tribute to the original video - which by the way, if you haven't seen - you should probably check it out! Queen couldn't perform this song live because of all the layering they did in post! And not only can Pentatonix do this Live, but the Mitch Grassi Guitar has no need for a Megaphone. Mitch just saw it lying around the set and decided to use it to draw attention to who was doing the guitar solo part - the megaphone was not on, Mitch can do this live! The couch is in reference to their beginning videos where they recorded themselves on various of theirs couches to post onto UA-cam after they were dropped by Sony because they didn't think that Acapella would be popular enough to sell records. It is also a tip of the hat to Wayne's World movie scene with the car and head banging to this song which brought in a whole new generation to Queen's music! The part where Mitch is laying on the couch is in reference to Freddie's death and the members walking alongside are his coffin's Pallbearers. A lot of the visuals in here are in tribute to the original video's trippy graphics; like when they all line up and do the 'oh, oh, oh's' one after the other, and also when they line up behind Kirstie standing on the couch only to fan out behind her with their vocal parts. The shot of the sky is in tribute to Dr. Brian May who is Queen's lead guitarist and also an astrophysicist! Each shooting star represents a member of Queen. When they all collapse onto the couch with the shot from above is a homage to the cover art of Queen's record 'Sheer Heart Attack' Also I am pretty sure, Mitch is a reincarnation of Freddie Mercury - one...he can grow the Freddie Stash and looks so much like Freddie that it is kinda creepy - two...he can sing just as high if not higher than Freddie could - and three...Freddie died 8 months before Mitch was born!
Queen went to a great deal of trouble to use what were then state-of-the-art video effects. With the computers available in 2017 it would have been fairly simple for Pentatonix to reproduce those video effects electronically, but instead they opted for flashlights and running around (though in fairness to Queen, you can't very well run around while playing a piano, drum kit, or electric guitar). I love the way Pentatonix thinks.
I have been watching them since they first showed up... they have a lot of great stuff, but I still think this is their masterpiece. It is a complex song and they nailed it... and the video presentation is perfect.
Hi, Chris! I've subscribed and am truly enjoying your reactions to Pentatonix (they're called PTX for short.) You mentioned scaling back on comedy reactions during the current period of wartime suffering, and I think that one of the most beautiful performances in support of peace, sharing, and tolerance you could experience is PTX's official video of John Lennon's "Imagine." Many reactors get so carried away by the beauty of PTX's singing that they sometimes shut their eyes or look away from the screen, but keep yours open through the entire video, because they have a visual message they perform with cards that's so, so moving. Queen's Brian May has indeed seen PTX's Bohemian Rhapsody video and given it a complimentary shout-out on his social media, and the four stars shooting through the sky in PTX's version are in honor of the four Queen members. The megaphone that Mitch uses in this video isn't turned on; it's just a prop he thought would look fun while the guitar sound is simply him singing in a nasal voice. Other commenters have given you an excellent rundown on the group's members; I'll only add that Mitch and Kirstie change their appearance a lot from video to video -- makeup, hair color, hair style, and in Mitch's case, body weight -- but it's always them. The only actual member change is their original bass singer, Avi (he's in this video) to their current bass singer, Matt (a tall, black guy with short hair.) Their body percussionist/beatboxer, Kevin, also sings tenor solos in some of their performances. Here's my suggestions for some PTX official videos you might enjoy: INSPIRATIONAL: The Prayer Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) Mary, Did You Know? Can You Feel the Love Tonight? The Sound of Silence Imagine Oh Come, All Ye Faithful (sung with an African beat!) live-on-stage version of Hallelujah with Matt as bass and wonderful audience participation at end SAD BUT BEAUTIFUL: Say Something Mad World Somebody That I Used to Know Jolene (sung with Dolly Parton; won a Grammy) FUN & BOUNCY: Daft Punk Medley (won a Grammy) Can't Hold Us (includes rapid-fire rapping!) Havana You're a Mean One, Mister Grinch Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (won a Grammy)
You should add their original "Sing" and "Joyful Joyful" live from the Evergreen Experience (and pay attention to the very last note hit by the bass, Matt Sallee,
Thanks for mentioning that bit about wanting to show respect by not uploading comedy for a bit. Can you believe someone actually criticised and insulted me for that? Said I was a hypocrite and basically that I don’t care at all. 🤷🏻♂️
New subscriber here. I enjoyed your reaction. You should definitely react to their version of John Lennon's song Imagine. It has a strong message that is still relevant today.
Saw Hallelujah and then followed the comments to this one. New subscriber, hope to find you really exploring Pentatonix! They worked for years to perfect this before putting it out. They are notoriously hard-working and precise. When you’ve discovered a little more of what they can do, check out Recording Evergreen, a mini-doc showing how they worked in the studio to produce a recent-ish Christmas album. I can recommend their Daft Punk medley (for which they won their first Grammy), Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King, and maybe Mad World for something a little more introspective. Peace … P.S. I meant to add that there are a lot of videos floating around on YT from their Hollywood Bowl performance last year that can show you how good they are live.
Also, Mitch (high-voiced guy) and Scott (tall blond guy) have a UA-cam channel called Superfruit; it's a variety show of brief episodes: comedy, serious singing, silly singing, goofy challenges, etc. Here's my suggestions for that: GUY.EXE (a professionally-done music video with a Rocky Horror vibe, in which Mitch plays a mad scientist trying to build the perfect boyfriend. Bouncy beat, great lyrics and dancing, and a funny surprise ending!) FROZEN MEDLEY (filmed in someone's living room, guest-starring Kirstie and featuring weird wigs and the fakest snow ever. It's as if you and your friends got hammered and put on an amateur theater but with mad singing skills. Bloopers at the end!) RISE (the duo and friends perform a moving song tribute to the victims of homophobic violence; specifically the Pulse nightclub shooting, if I remember correctly.) HIP-HOP GOES BROADWAY, PARTS 1 & 2 (Mitch and Scott sing a medley of hip-hop lyrics -- dirty words tastefully bleeped out -- in the style of perky Broadway show tunes. Bloopers at the ends!) TRY NOT TO LAUGH (Mitch and Scott take turns filling their mouths with water, try not to spit-take the mouthful, and fail spectacularly.)
Popspring 2016. Performed live for MTV Japan, so no need for copyright blockers. 3 originals (Cracked, Can't Sleep Love (best version by far), Water (Kirstie is just phenomenal) and the evolution of Michael Jackson. All told runs about 20 minutes.
Okay, first some history: Mitch, Scott, and Kirstie all grew up in Arlington, Texas. Mitch is about a year younger than Scott and Kirstie. When they were children they were all involved in community musical theater, which is where Mitch met both Kirstie and Scott, separately, when he was 9 or 10, and he became friends with both of them. Scott and Kirstie didn't meet each other until they were 14 and found themselves in the same class in high school, at which point they also became friends. All three were choir nerds (big surprise there) and quickly became best friends. At one point they wanted to enter a musical competition for a chance to meet the cast of _"Glee,"_ so they formed a trio which they not-so-imaginatively named "The Trio." (For this reason, pentaholics still refer to the three of them as "the trio," and the trio is the heart of Pentatonix.) They didn't win the contest, but they kept The Trio together and would occasionally perform at school functions and on local television. Kirstie and Scott graduated in 2010 and each went away to college, Scott in southern California and Kirstie in Oklahoma. Scott is a very outgoing person, so one of the first things he did in California was to look around for extracurricular activities where he could meet people and make friends, and he found a very good amateur a cappella group named SoCal VoCals, which he joined. It was there that he met a guy named Ben Bram, who at the time was working as a coach on an NBC a cappella competition show named _"The Sing-Off."_ Groups would audition for the show, and those who passed would appear on the show throughout the season. Some would be eliminated along the way, narrowing the field, and at the end of the season viewers would get a chance to vote. The winners would get $200,000 and a recording contract with a minor subsidiary of Sony, who sponsored the show. So Scott heard about _"The Sing-Off"_ from Ben Bram, and he was intrigued. He thought The Trio could be competitive, and if they won the recording contract the three best friends could make a good career for themselves doing what they most enjoyed, together. He talked it over with Kirstie and she agreed; among other things she thought it would be wonderful for the world to hear Mitch's voice and give him the recognition he deserved. So as soon as their first year of college ended Scott and Kirstie headed back to Arlington to be there for Mitch's graduation and discuss the plan with him. Meanwhile, Mitch had been having a very hard time. Mitch and Scott are both gay and had already come out of the closet, and Mitch was being bullied for how high his voice was. This was thinly disguised gay-bashing, of course, but Mitch took it to heart as actually being about his voice; he's had a hard time learning to believe that people actually want to hear him sing. So when Scott and Kirstie presented a plan that would get him out of Arlington Mitch was on board, even though he did doubt that he could pull his weight. So now that they were all agreed, Scott called Ben Bram to find out what they needed to do to get an audition. This was when they hit their first road block. _"The Sing-Off"_ had a size requirement. Bands must each have at least five members. The Trio needed two new members and a new name. Ben suggested that they'd do well to add a rhythm section: a bass and a beatboxer. For bass he suggested a guy he knew named Avi Kaplan, and Avi was interested, but Ben had no idea where they shoud look for a beatboxer. In desperation they went to UA-cam and typed in "beatboxer," and the first thing that came up was this video of a black guy playing the cello beautifully and beatboxing at the same time, and they all said "Wow! He's the one. Let's see if we can get him." Okay, but how? Well, at the time UA-cam supported private messages (it no longer does), so they sent him a UA-cam message: "We love what you do, and how would you feel about flying to the other side of the country to join four strangers in an audition for an a cappella competition show on television." Doesn't sound promising, does it? But it was honest, and honesty counts. Somewhat to their surprise, Kevin actually responded to their message. He messaged them back: "Normally I'd be there in a heartbeat. I've been involved with a cappella before and I love a cappella. But right now I'm studying for my final exams in Yale's pre-med program." Oh. That sounded pretty definite; Kevin was out. Time to look for someone else. They found someone, but he wasn't as good as Kevin. Well, you work with what you have. And two weeks later they were surprised by another message from Kevin: "Good news. I just graduated. If the gig's still open I can fly out." Kevin arrived just one day before their audition. Mitch had to skip his high school graduation ceremony to make the audition, but they made it. And in spite of the short rehearsal time they passed the audition. They were in. Oh, yes, the name. Pentatonix is named for the pentatonic scale, a scale with five (penta) tones, just as Pentatonix has five (Penta) singers. In other words, it's a fancy way of saying they're now "The Quintet."😁 Pentatonix appeared throughout season 3 of _"The Sing-Off,"_ and eventually won it. All of their performances are available on UA-cam; it's fascinating to watch them in order and see their growth throughout the season. So, here they were with a brand new recording contract, time to move to California permanently so they could begin recording. And a week later the company reneged on the contract, saying that they didn't think a cappella would sell. But Pentatonix were unwilling to give up on their dream, so they pooled their winnings and used the $200,000 as seed money. The men shared two apartments, to cut down on costs. They lived frugally and they began building up a repertoire, which they recorded with their iPhones and posted to UA-cam. And their fans from _"The Sing-Off"_ found them there, and told people about them, and their following became impressive. They began getting patrons. And Sony took notice and got in touch with them. "You know, we think Epic made a big mistake when they cancelled your contract. Are you intersted in a contract with this other subsidiary, Madison Gate?" Hmm. 🤔 Was Pentatonix interested in a recording contract? Darn right Pentatonix was interested! And then they started winning Grammys, and again, Sony took notice. "You know, we've thought it over some more and we wonder whether you wouldn't be happier with our premier subsidiary. Would you like a contract with RCA?" And Pentatonix has been with RCA ever since. They're the only a cappella band to ever have won a Grammy, except they've won three. They're also the only a cappella band to have a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. They tour world wide to sold-out audiences every year. At this point I would simply proceed to talk about "Bohemian Rhapsody" if UA-cam would allow it, but that makes the comment too big for UA-cam to handle, so see my next comment.
And I got their ages wrong. Scott and Kirstie have said that they met Mitch when they were 8, which means Mitch would have been 7. I added when I should have subtracted.
@@margretrosenberg420 It really would depend upon the time of year that they met. They are all the same age for some months each year. Scott was born in September. Kirstin was born in May of the following year and Mitch was born in July of the same year, just 2 months later.
@@vidsorama2 Correct. And as far as I can tell not even they remember those details at this point, which is not at all surprising; unless they happened to be keeping diaries that's the kind of detail that's easily lost.
Mitch does the gutar live onstage without the megaphone it was just a prop. Yes brian May saw this. He put a link to it on his social media with one word " ENJOY "
I don't know about all the social media links, but I read the one on Twitter. It said (caps his): GREAT VERSION. Enjoy!" Can't get much higher praise than that. 😀
@@debrawalkermeyer9109 You are right that it is impressive that he liked enough to share it everywhere! And more people would have seen it through the Facebook post than on Twitter, so that's great.
They sing this live in their concerts. Mitch' actually sings the guitar into a microphone during the live performance. The megaphone just happen to be on the set. Brian May loved this cover smf even posted on his website Pentatonix will not record any song they can't perform live.
I saw them perform this live just two months ago, and it is absolutely incredible. There is a tiny bit of post-production distortion put on Mitch's guitar solo here, but he still does a magnificent job without it on stage. This group is phenomenal.
I’m so happy to go down this rabbit hole with you. I enjoy nothing more than watching others discover the awesomeness of this group. I am going to go check your channel for a PTX playlist.
Eeeeerg, I can't shut up. PTX's body percussionist Kevin also plays a mean cello while beatboxing at the same time; his performance of "Down" is here on UA-cam and is simply mesmerizing. @@YorkshiremanReacts26Better be careful in that promise -- they've done about 200 songs in the last 12 years. 😃 They do fabulous Christmas music -- O Come All Ye Faithful being one of best and in a surprising style.
Iirc, PTX worked on the arrangement for this song for 5 years, because they really wanted to do it justice. And holy wowza did they ever! Ps, there's a "making of"/bts video of this that's hilarious (Kirstie needed a step to climb of the back of the couch, Kevin kept colliding with it) - highly recommend, even if you don't make a video of it!
I highly recommend watching Kevin Olusola’s (the beatboxer) stuff. Kevin’s Fifth, Sign Of The Times, Down. Wait a few before tapping into him. Occasionally they do have instruments, from what I’ve seen, strictly strings. Kevin will occasionally play the cello, and they’ve had Lindsey Sterling join them for a song as well. Great songs to watch besides the ones you’ve tapped into are Mary Did You Know, Amazing Grace, Evolution Of Michael Jackson, Sound Of Silence. As a heads up, Avi did leave the band, and was replaced with Matt, so you will see a member change. Their live performances are also pretty phenomenal.
Brian May is actually Dr. Brian May. He is an astrophysicist. His PhD thesis a survey of radial velocities in the zodiacal dust cloud" was published in 2007 and is a popular astronomy book of the same name. He started his research in 1970 and then stopped to run around the world in this rock band named Queen. Maybe you've heard of them maybe you haven't I had to Google them. That's sarcasm. The megaphone in a prop. Mitch does not use it in the live performances. the voice you hear when they're looking at the stars is the same voice Mitch uses with the megaphone . The shot at the sky is homage to Brian May. Brian May was so impressed with the video that he posted it on all of his social media sites. The part where Mitch is lying down on the couch and Kevin and Avi are walking beside it are to represent the pallbearers carrying Freddie's coffin . The shot at the end when they're looking up at the sky always puzzled me because there are four shooting stars and I always wondered about that because there are 5 members in PTX. I read in a comment that it's an homage to Queen because there are 4 members in Queen. At least that's how I interpret the shooting stars. The moving couch pays homage to how they started. They worked on this song for five or six years to get it where it is right now. This is a link to a live version of Bohemian Rhapsody. I think it was filmed off of somebody's phone. ua-cam.com/video/C1PelJIxHTQ/v-deo.html There should be a video of them doing Bohemian Rhapsody from September 29th at the Hollywood Bowl. Check out PTX official or tea time with Travis and it'll be on either one of those There's also a recent live version from Budapest I think. I just don't remember the name of the city but I'm pretty sure it's Budapest.
@@YorkshiremanReacts26 I beg to differ. I was a vocal performance major at a musical conservatory and I think you are selling yourself short. You not only match pitch very well but even slightly tune it a bit sharp, which is always desirable. And on the Hallelujah video you singled out Mitch in the harmonies with him singing the alto part, not soprano, bass or even the baritone, which would be the natural ones to single out first. It's impressive😊
I wish I could sing properly, like make it sound professional but I don't know how to do that. You'll find that I do that ("selling myself short") a lot, I've never praised myself or anything like that, it saves the disappointment in future. Thank you for the kind comment anyway though, it's not something I'm used to so it was nice to receive it. 🙂🙏🏻
Hey! Pentatonix loves Queen, and they love "Bohemian Rhapsody," so they always wanted to cover this song, but they feared that they couldn't do it justice, so they decided to wait until they were sure they were ready. That took them five years, but it was worth the wait - they were definitely ready. The audio panning on "little high, little low" is a direct quote from Queen. If you listen to Queen's original you'll hear the same panning on the same phrase. In the early days of Pentatonix, after Epic reneged on the recording contract Pentatonix had "won" on _The Sing-Off,_ (see my previous comment) Pentatonix started posting to UA-cam; it was the only way they COULD publish their music. A lot of those early UA-cam videos show the five of them sitting on a couch, with the trio on the back of the couch and Avi and Kevin on the seat in front of them, just five very young people singing their hearts out, making their dream come true. Note that this is the configuration we see them in at the beginning and end of "Bohemian Rhapsody," which is one reason the couch needs to move - it's taking Pentatonix (and us) on a trip down Memory Lane. The more important reason the couch moves is that it's standing in for the car in _"Wayne's World,"_ where Wayne and Garth introduced a whole new generation to the genius of Queen by putting a tape of "Bohemian Rhapsody" into the car's tape player. The couch was motorized, and not very well balanced. (Note that when they're sitting on it their feet don't quite reach the ground. The little curtain thing on the bottom was added to hide the motor.) It kept trying to tip over during the filming and actually managed to throw Kevin off at one point. There was a small platform attached to the back so that Kirstie could climb on the couch from behind - Scott, being a foot taller than Kirstie, didn't need it. When Mitch lies down on the couch, singing "Too late, My time has come," they're referring to Freddie Mercury's death (the foreshadowing was, of course, unintentional on Freddie's part; there's no way he could have known, thank goodness). The other four are walking next to the couch to serve as his pall bearers. Many people think the megaphone is distorting Mitch's voice to make him sound more like an electric guitar, but it actually has nothing to do with it. The megaphone wasn't turned on, and couldn't have distorted Mitch's voice even if it had been - it was just a megaphone (and besides, they're lip-synching to a studio recording, and no, they didn't add any electronic distortion there, either). The electric guitar is all Mitch. Mitch happened to see the megaphone lying around on the set and thought it would make a cool prop, so it's been confusing people ever since. During the "Bismillah" argument, note that Scott, whose range includes both bass and tenor registers, is actually singing along with both the high and low sides of the argument. Scott has said that this rapid switching is the hardest part of the song for him. When the camera pans up to show us the starry night sky during Mitch's second guitar solo, it's meant as a tribute to Queen's lead guitarist, Brian May, who has a doctorate in astrophysics. The four shooting stars honor the four members of Queen. When the camera pans back down to show Pentatonix lying on the couch together it's meant to recall the cover art for Queen's "Sheer Heart Attack" album. And when this official video was first released, Brian May posted a link to it on all his social media accounts with the comment: "Enjoy."
Sounds like you are ready for their Daft Punk cover... maybe. Their first of three Grammy wins. btw Brian May posted on UA-cam: "Great Version: Bohemian Rhapsody by Pentatonix. Enjoy."
Thank you. I don’t know how to be any other way. If I didn’t like it I would’ve said so that everyone knew where I stood and that’d be the end of PTX on this channel. But from the end of the first one I’ve only wanted to see and hear more. They’re unbelievable! ❤️🥲
It is all really them. Watch a live performance of this or Hallelujah or any other song to dispel doubts. You might try Daft Punk or Can’t Hold Us, a Macklemore and Ryan Lewis cover. Originals try Love Again, Coffee in Bed and Sing. Mad World, Say Something, and Their mash of New Rules x Are You That Somebody? They have 3 Grammys. Daft Punk, Jolene with Dolly Parton (her first Grammy for the song was a collab with PTX) and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy ( Nutcracker Ballet) A song with no lyrics performed by a group with no instruments.
I know if Marc very well. How similar he is to Freddie is honestly frightening! Also the fact that he looks like him too, I’m sure he’s Freddie’s son from a fling he had on one of his American tours and no one can convince me otherwise!!
I don't know what's going on to UA-cam. I was sad, because there weren't any more recommendations, I thought that you just stopped there. Only when I looked in the comments of the Hallelujah video, I realized that there are many more. Now I'm just mad at UA-cam for not showing me those gems.
Just subbed for more PTX content. Enjoyed your reactions and respect your stance so also followed you on twitch. You *MUST* (please) react to PTX cover of John Lennon's *"IMAGINE"* still a very timely message, especially today.
Seems like I read somewhere that Queen couldnt perform this live...but Pentatonix can. I'm not sure if thats true or not but I know it took them a long time to decide to do this to get the arrangement correct and for it to be good enough to pay tribute to the original. I have subscribed to see your future reactions to PTX. Another acapella group you may want t to react to is Home free. Another amazing beatboxer Adam Rupp. Watch him closely. As far as Brian he posted this video and was really impressed. And Adam Lambert could easily be replaced with Mitch Grassi. He even favors Freddy Mercury with his mustache. I'm really excited to watch your reactions moving forward. One of my favorite pastimes and guilty pleasures of late. Happy listening and reacting
Excuse me?! You read what? That queen couldn’t perform Bohemian Rhapsody live? Live aid 1985? Montreal 1981? Wembley Stadium or Budapest 1986? If that’s what you actually read then whoever it was that wrote that needs to explain what the hell they were trying to say with that statement!
I suppose I should have said the song in its entirety. Parts of it yes, but seems as though it was something about layering( I'm no musician so I dont even know of that is a word one would use regarding music) of the middle part that the band wasnt comfortable with performing live. I suppose I should have looked into it a little more vefore commenting bc I dont want to make a false statement...ESPECIALLY ABOITUT QUEEN!!! THEY ARE ICONIC. A LEGEND. I grew up listening to so many songs. However I'm almost positive I read that somewhere, but then again, we cannot believe everything we read online lol. I'll look further into it.
Oh! I thought you meant some fool had claimed they’d never played the song live at all!!!! It would appear once again that im the idiot. 🤦🏻♂️ In Montreal 1981 they played the first and final part but during the operatic section they left the stage, then suddenly as soon as the rock out like crazy part is about to begin the lights all come back on and they’re all there back on the stage again playing their hearts out! 🤘🏻
No...im didn't word it correctly. Youre not an idiot!!! Or appear that way. Dont ever say that ablut yourself. I can tell you know what you are speaking of abojt music. More versed than i am ...pun not intended lol. But I did read about it. I think you are really going to be impressed with PTX. I'm sure in the comments someone has mentioned that won The Sing Off competition in the US. About 10 or so years ago. You could begin with those performances yo see gow they have grown as a group and get some back story. Superfruit is great also.. A duet Mitch and Scott formed. Those two and Kirstie were classmates and wanted to audition for the show and needed 5 members minimum. They UA-cam searched beatboxer and found Kevin. And I believe Avi and Scott had a mutual friend. They all met like two days before auditions. They were fated to sing together. Avi has gone solo and left on good terms and was replaced by Matt Sallee as the base in lkke 2016 0r 17. I'm a baby " Pentaholic" and just love love LOVE Mitch Grassi. He is my favorite although they all are so talented and blessed. I am just amazed that all thier sounds come from their voices. Theyve collaborated with Lindsay Sterling and she plays the violin and Kevin plays the cello on some songs. Kevin's fifth the kevin show really showcases his talent and he can dance and beatbox as well as sing and beatbox at the same time. If you ever havr any question if anything is altered in tbe studio remember anything they can do in the studio they can also perform live as well. I think that is what makes them so unbelievably outstanding. They can rap also... Ryan lewis and macklemores Cant Hold Us or Ariana Grande Problem. Superfruits Feeling Myself ...the list goes on and on. They have won 3 Grammy Awards. They have little sayings like "Mitch Slapped" or KO fir Kevin or AVI launched. Avi has actually blown speakers. I hope you keep reacting. I'll watch for the notifications. Welcome to the world of PTX. I've said a lot but im certain others will have much more to say also.
It’s called being able to do 2 things at once. This is a reaction. MY reaction. If you want to hear the original song in SILENCE then GO LISTEN to the ORIGINAL VIDEO. Sick of you people. Imagine clicking on a “reaction” then expecting no extra audible content? This is definitely a you problem love….😑
I have relatives in Israel. Emu niece live near the Ellie I’mwer Gaza border with her family. I will never forget that some of my fellow leftists would celebrate her her death as “decolonization.” Something you may not realize is that more than half of all Israeli Jews are from Arab countries, Iran or Turkey. There are more Jewish refugees from Arab countries than Palestinian refugees from Israel.
That is literally the left wing position on this war. Are you not seeing what’s happening here in the UK? It’s the right who support Israel and actually want to put a stop to all of this. It’s obvious to anyone with half a brain that democrats LOVE war. Where do You think HAMAS got the money to fund this? 🤦🏻♂️

Mind boggling, aren't they? Brian May shared it on his social media with the comment "enjoy!" Fantastic reaction! Subbed for more!
Thank you for subscribing! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Yup. It's all them. Might want to check out their Daft Punk medley - they won a Grammy for it.
Actually Brian put this on his twitter feed and said “enjoy”! So yeah he’s thrilled about how they covered this.
Pentatonix Bohemian Rhapsody Insights:
So, some things to know about this cover and video: -It took PTX years to get the arrangement to where they felt they could do the original masterpiece justice.
The megaphone is a prop only. If anyone was born to sing this song its Mitch. He sounds exactly like Freddy.
He even looks a bit like him. I wonder if Mitch owns a cat? 🤔
Mitch is fantastic but there is and ever will be one Freddie!
Mitch does own cats
Try your next Pentatonix reaction to a live performance. Yes, they routinely pay respect and homage to anything they cover.
😂😂😂 they really masters in what they do!!!! I love how you love and enjoy them❤! Thank you. They're truly phenomenal!!!

Wow, that’s really cool because my best friend lives in Gainesville! 😀
It took them 5 years to complete because they wanted to get it right.
Just their voices! ❤️ Brian May paid them respect on his socials for their cover!
Dude! You have an AMAZING voice! Ur the first reactor I haven’t minded singing with them!!!!
Lol I really don’t, I sound like a dying cat! Listen to these sound test videos I uploaded a while ago to ask people if my microphone sounded good enough. I sound like one of those idiots you used to see on the Xfactor back in the mid 2000’s that we used to laugh at! 🤣😂😆😭🤦🏻♂️

Perfect example of being gob-smacked! Great reaction, so genuine!
When they all collapse onto the couch with the shot from above is a homage to the cover art of Queen's record 'Sheer Heart Attack'
Also I am pretty sure, Mitch is a reincarnation of Freddie Mercury - one...he can grow the Freddie Stash and looks so much like Freddie that it is kinda creepy - two...he can sing just as high if not higher than Freddie could - and three...Freddie died 8 months before Mitch was born!
Here's my suggestions for some PTX official videos you might enjoy:

Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)

Thanks for mentioning that bit about wanting to show respect by not uploading comedy for a bit. Can you believe someone actually criticised and insulted me for that? Said I was a hypocrite and basically that I don’t care at all. 🤷🏻♂️
Yes. If I had read this before commenting I would have simply said “ditto” on your comments.
The starry sky was, of course, homage to Dr. Sir Brian May, Astrophysicist and Knight. The shooting stars were the members of the band.
I loved this video! There's nothing better than reactors starting to sing along because they can't help it.
That's all them. I saw them perform this song live 2 months ago. Mitch doesn't use the megaphone in performance, it's just a prop.
New subscriber here. I enjoyed your reaction. You should definitely react to their version of John Lennon's song Imagine. It has a strong message that is still relevant today.
What Brian had to say when he shared the video on Twitter was (caps his) : "GREAT VERSION. Enjoy!" 😃
I think Miles Reuben's channel has all of the concert separated out to the individual songs. Great video and audio on that channel.
@@Gwennedd Good info, thanks.
When this first came out Brian May posted it on social media with one word........."Enjoy". I think Brian liked it.
You should see them do these live in concert ….. they are incredible!!
Also, Mitch (high-voiced guy) and Scott (tall blond guy) have a UA-cam channel called Superfruit; it's a variety show of brief episodes: comedy, serious singing, silly singing, goofy challenges, etc. Here's my suggestions for that:
GUY.EXE (a professionally-done music video with a Rocky Horror vibe, in which Mitch plays a mad scientist trying to build the perfect boyfriend. Bouncy beat, great lyrics and dancing, and a funny surprise ending!)
FROZEN MEDLEY (filmed in someone's living room, guest-starring Kirstie and featuring weird wigs and the fakest snow ever. It's as if you and your friends got hammered and put on an amateur theater but with mad singing skills. Bloopers at the end!)
RISE (the duo and friends perform a moving song tribute to the victims of homophobic violence; specifically the Pulse nightclub shooting, if I remember correctly.)
HIP-HOP GOES BROADWAY, PARTS 1 & 2 (Mitch and Scott sing a medley of hip-hop lyrics -- dirty words tastefully bleeped out -- in the style of perky Broadway show tunes. Bloopers at the ends!)
TRY NOT TO LAUGH (Mitch and Scott take turns filling their mouths with water, try not to spit-take the mouthful, and fail spectacularly.)
Brian May shared this on his twitter with the word "Enjoy!"
Brian May Posted on his site when he heard it; simply "Enjoy"
Welcome to the rabbit hole of Pentatonix! You need to check out their Grammy Award winning song Daft Punk Medley that will blow your mind .
Okay, first some history:
Mitch, Scott, and Kirstie all grew up in Arlington, Texas.
In other words, it's a fancy way of saying they're now "The Quintet."😁
Pentatonix appeared throughout season 3 of _"The Sing-Off,"_ and eventually won it.
@@LindaVernon. On FB I saw it and it was where he simply said Enjoy. Impressive he saw it and liked it!
Brian May, Queen’s lead guitarist, put a link in his social media and simply said “ This is great! Enjoy!
It took them 5 years to perfect this song. I think it's perfect
Brian May posted a link to the PTX video and said "Enjoy".
I saw them perform this live just two months ago, and it is absolutely incredible. There is a tiny bit of post-production distortion put on Mitch's guitar solo here, but he still does a magnificent job without it on stage. This group is phenomenal.
100% a capella...including beat boxer.
It is so amazing to see them do this live!!!
Even more amazing when you think this only 5 people.
You need to listen to Daft Punk medley. They won a Grammy for it. Their first of 3.
Don't hesitate to put filters over PTX videos (or flip the image, superimpose words across the screen, etc.) in order to post your reactions. Most PTX fans have seen the videos already; we're here to watch your face and listen to your squees! ;D
Great reactions! They do it all live in their concerts! Crazy...
Perfection 🤌🏾
A big yes to everything that has been commented on so far and I would just add to check out their Evolution Of videos; like Evolution Of Music and Evolution Of Michel Jackson. Doing Pentatonix will bring you the Pentaholics in force but be careful they are very protective of these guys.
I've just subscribed! Hoping for more Pentatonix! :) Loving your PTX reactions! :)
Thank you! Please check out my reaction to a live version of this, you will also hear my talking about the special ‘PTX Fan Club’ tier I’ve made on my Patreon that will be THE PLACE TO BE for my PTX content! I’ve already had 4 people join and we’ll be doing exclusive content very soon!
Subbed for more Pentatonix reactions
You’ve made the correct decision. 🙂
You need to do their Daft Punk medley. Close-ups of everything they’re doing (and their first Grammy)
Nope. Emotional? Already there... a true homage. And scary good guitar solo.
I just watched your first reaction to ptx, then came here. In the time I was watching, four new subs, including myself (btw I noticed you haven't subscribed to pentatonix's channel yet).
Ill be here for more reactions. Someone mentioned 'Sing' is a good song, and i agree. It was chosen, with some rewording, gor a Thursday night nfl intro song almost a decade ago. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
"Daft Punk" was their first Grammy Win, check it out.
btw, that megaphone doesn't work. It's just a prop, it's all him.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen a truly beautiful reaction. So to keep this ball a rollin, please react to “Daft Punk” medley. Grammy award winning.🎶🎶💕🦋
Wow that is such a compliment! Thank you Rebecca. Btw that’s one of my favourite names and one of my best friends from primary school was a girl called Rebecca! I Will absolutely do the one you mentioned! I’m absolutely fascinated by this group, I’ll be doing it ALL!! ❤️💯
@@YorkshiremanReacts26Better be careful in that promise -- they've done about 200 songs in the last 12 years. 😃
They do fabulous Christmas music -- O Come All Ye Faithful being one of best and in a surprising style.
I read in a comment that it's an homage to Queen because there
are 4 members in Queen. At least that's how I interpret the shooting stars. The moving couch pays homage to how they started. They worked on this song for five or six years to get it where it is right now.
This is a link to a live version of Bohemian Rhapsody. I think it was filmed off of somebody's phone.
ua-cam.com/video/C1PelJIxHTQ/v-deo.html
There should be a video of them doing Bohemian Rhapsody from September 29th at the Hollywood Bowl. Check out PTX official or tea time with Travis and it'll be on either one of those
There's also a recent live version from Budapest I think. I just don't remember the name of the city but I'm pretty sure it's Budapest.
By the way the megaphone is actually just a prop as he does it live without. ❤❤❤
Another enjoyable reaction. Don't stop singing, your voice is stellar! Go watch their Daft Punk and Imagine
It’s really not, but I think I can at least sing in tune so it’s less offensive to have to listen to than a voice completely tone deaf! 🙂
The megaphone was just a prop. It wast real. He does it live without it. 🙏🙏👏👏👏👏❤️
I know I’ve reacted to a live version recently.
Check out their cover of "The Sound of Silence"
They worked on this for five years before recording it they wanted it to honor Queen
Hey! Since you like Freddie Mercury
Check out his live performance with MontSerrate (opera soprano) in Barcelona, Spain singing the duet he wrote entitled “Barcelona” when it was announced as the host of the Olympics. It is epic!! He knew he would not live to see it.
Ensure you find the version Live Barcelona in “El Nit”. He is wearing a black tuxedo…. If you the version in a blue tux it’s not the one. He went on tour and there are multiple versions.

Recommend their cover of Mad World.
Enjoy."
I love your genuine enthusiasm! I’d recommend their original video of Sound of Silence.
Thank you. I don’t know how to be any other way. If I didn’t like it I would’ve said so that everyone knew where I stood and that’d be the end of PTX on this channel. But from the end of the first one I’ve only wanted to see and hear more. They’re unbelievable! ❤️🥲
The megaphone is just a prop. Mitch doesn't use it when they perform this live! 😅

Absolutely brilliant. Have you listen to Marc Martel sing this, just sitting at his piano?
I know if Marc very well. How similar he is to Freddie is honestly frightening! Also the fact that he looks like him too, I’m sure he’s Freddie’s son from a fling he had on one of his American tours and no one can convince me otherwise!!
Great reaction. Subbing for more PTX! ❤
Aye. Poor Kevin seems to have swallowed an orchestra who he was a kid !
Lol true! Also can I just ask: are you also a Scottish comedy fan?
I like your style. Subbed!
In Montreal 1981 they played the first and final part but during the operatic section they left the stage, then suddenly as soon as the rock out like crazy part is about to begin the lights all come back on and they’re all there back on the stage again playing their hearts out!
Welcome to PTX.
For another awesome and unique version of this song, watch Angelina Jordan.
Curious how can you react to them when you are singing also?
It’s called being able to do 2 things at once. This is a reaction. MY reaction. If you want to hear the original song in SILENCE then GO LISTEN to the ORIGINAL VIDEO. Sick of you people. Imagine clicking on a “reaction” then expecting no extra audible content? This is definitely a you problem love….😑
I have relatives in Israel. Emu niece live near the Ellie I’mwer Gaza border with her family. I will never forget that some of my fellow leftists would celebrate her her death as “decolonization.”
Something you may not realize is that more than half of all Israeli Jews are from Arab countries, Iran or Turkey.
Where do
