I didn't luv all the Beatles songs but I did imagine. so beautiful. Its a shame what happened to John Lennon so sad. hope you are well. b safe take care. from 🇬🇧😄👍 an old cockney gal
Brian May did post the link to PTX's cover when it was released, so obviously he liked it. The bass whom you appreciated is Avi Kaplan, who trained as a basso profundo in his opera/classical voice major in college. He left the group in 2017 for various reasons (including his mother's cancer), and began releasing original solo music in early 2019 (once the legal restriction on doing so expired) (he did release an EP while he was still in PTX though), and has since released 3 EP's and an 11-song, all-original album in 2022. He's toured Europe twice and the US/Canada 2 1/2 times (the 1/2 due to having to cancel a tour that had just started when the Covid lockdown happened), and he has a large, appreciative fanbase of his own. For a taste of what he's done in the last 6 months or so, here's a studio version of his original "When I'm a Fool", recorded at the legendary Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, accompanied by some of the best studio musicians in LA. So you'll see that he's no longer doing a cappella. ua-cam.com/video/LE24UTH3pmQ/v-deo.html
Pentatonix has always had five members. The group name is inspired by the pentatonic scale (used a lot in pop music) as well as "penta" meaning "five" because they have five members. Kevin, the beatboxer, also sings and plays cello when they need an instrument. He's an all-around talent and practically a genius in his own right.
Kevin isn't practically a genius. He IS a genius. He got his pre-med major from Yale University, speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese, and had learned to play three musical instruments before he was 10 years old (cello, saxophone, and piano if I recall correctly). After Scott and Ben Bram (their manager) reached out to him, Pentatonix was born.
It took the group 5 years before they felt confident enough with their vocals and arrangement to do this. They wanted to make sure it was the best homage to Queen and Freddie as they could. Mitch Grassi, ( the one that looks and sounds like Freddie) is a natural countertenor. His highest note in videos is A5...although his whistle notes sound like a sharpie on a whiteboard. He only used the megaphone in the video...other times for live shows ( yes, the group prides themselves on being able to sound exactly the same live as on official videos) , he doesn't use it...doesn't need it. Members: Scott Hoying - tall blond guy- baritone - covers bass when bass is singing lead. Mitch Grassi- Freddie Mercury look-alike- tenor/counter tenor. Kirstin ( Kirstie) Maldonado -blond ( occasionally) female- mezzo soprano- great belting abilities Kevin Olusola- beatboxer/ tenor/cellist. Kevin is the genius of the group with perfect pitch- a world class cellist and sax player. Avi Kaplan- dark-haired male- bass- Avi left the group in 2017 and is now enjoying a solo career. Matt Sallee took over as bass in the beginning of 2018 and has been a wonderful addition to the group ever since. I suggest for your next Pentatonix (PTX) reaction: Daft Punk . It's a medley of about 5-6 daft punk songs. it won them their first Grammy...and remember...they never do anything that they cannot do live. Oh...and thanks for doing this and giving back to your fans and wife. She's a smart lady if she's a PTX fan!
There are live videos of them doing Daft Punk, you can't hear the lowest bass notes because of the bad audio, but you can tell Avi is doing the work in the video, so you know the sound would have been there live, and it's as good or better than the produced version.
You have such an awesome wife. That she sees that you have so much joy and buys you a new pc is not a small thing at all. Everyone give me a HELL YEAH tot his wife!!🤘🏻
Thanks for sharing the backstory of why you reacted to this. If you have trouble accepting gifts and compliments, perhaps it would help if you think about how happy it makes the giver to see you enjoy the gift. As an introvert myself, I find it always helps to get out of my own head and really pay attention to what's going on with the people around me.
I'm one who has a hard time accepting gifts, but I enjoy giving a gift. I'm deliberate in the things I give, meaning I pay attention to the person and find just the right thing to give them. It can take months, sometimes. But the resulting joy gives me indescribable pleasure. That person knows it's carefully thought out and specifically for them, and not just some holiday or birthday obligation. It's for no one else. Your suggestion is a really good one. Perhaps Viking will, at some point, come to understand the giver.
Yep, It’s not easy being an introvert when all we really wish , is to be left alone. LOL It’s a struggle . Just learn to smile and simply say Thank you . We all deserve to be treated with Love and care, you’re no exception . Learning How to accept love , teaches You how to love better.
lol "Distortion from the Megaphone" lol. Watch this live and see him do this without a megaphone it is a prop, like the couch. Got to love fresh reactions.
Pentatonix is the good acapella you mentioned. They are demonstrably the pinnacle of acapella, and they never let me down. They do covers, originals, and Christmas music about in equal amounts, have three Grammys and four nominations, billions of UA-cam views, and multi-platinum albums. They have been making music for over a decade. You might want to try "Imagine," "Sound of Silence," "Hallelujah" (the Leonard Cohen song), and "Mad World" covers. That spans the change-over between the bass, Avi, who you see here, and Matt who replaced him when he left amicably several years ago. All the other members remain the same, though they change their looks dramatically over time. Your wife's people welcome you, lol.
@Joquita Sullivan their version of Mary Did You Know is my favorite Christmas song to listen to every year, it's beautiful and chilling and humbling and joyous somehow all at the same time. Amazing
Mitch (High voice), Scott (Blonde) and Kirstie have been friends since middle school. Kevin (Beatboxer) and Avi(bass) got together the day before the TV show The Sing Off , an A Capella Sing off show, which they won and launched their career(sort of LOL, that's another story) So..."Daft Punk Medley" next?? It won them their 1st Grammy. Brian May, when this came out, posted it on his website with the word ENJOY.
The band was formed for *and won* season 3 of a TV reality show called the Sing Off, which pitted Acapella groups against each other. The grand prize was a recording contract. The recording company didn't know how to market acapella, so they paid off the contract instead of recording and promoting Pentatonix. PTX honed their craft making you tube videos on their couch, just five members singing and beatboxing covers in an apartment. The journey on the couch is a metaphor for their humble beginnings while staying true to themselves. There is a behind the scenes video if you're interested in how they completed the filming in one night. Enjoyed your commentary. I'll be looking for more. Peace from Las Vegas.
You did what I most appreciate about reactions. You gave us information about yourself, you explained your knowledge of the artist before playing the music, you paid attention and emotionally and intellectually responded to the music, and you gave us your thoughts on what you had just heard. One thing of many I could say about Pentatonix(PTX for short) is that they really always know what they are doing. Every performance I have seen, whether an official video or a live performance, has been carefully constructed and performed with gusto, as if they really believe in the piece they are doing. I hope you find other PTX pieces that bring you pleasure.
Glad you liked this. Pentatonix are incredible. I think this is one of the best a cappella covers ever. Brian May loves it and says he believes it's one of the best Boh Rhap covers ever. The guy with the high voice is Mitch Grassi and he's a counter tenor. They perform this live and Mitch can do the guitar solo just with his voice as the megaphone was just for effect for the video. Pentatonix have been together for 12 years. Everyone loves Avi Kaplan (the bass). He is the only member to leave Pentatonix (amicably) in 2017 for personal reasons as his mother was ill. He has an awesome solo career now. Their bass since 2017 is Matt Sallee and he's amazing too. Mitch (high tenor), Scott (the baritone, tall blonde) and Kirstie have been friends since they were 8 years old, grew up in Texas and sang in high school together. They found Kevin who is one of the best beatboxers in the world, who also sings tenor and plays the electric cello (sometimes all at the same time!) plus Avi in 2011 when they entered and won an a capella competition called 'the Sing-off'. They have many best-selling albums, three Grammy's and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They are very much known for their covers (their cover of Hallelujah has over 700 MILLION views!) and their Christmas music but their originals are excellent and very under-rated. They have a huge catalogue of more than 200 songs and in many different styles including pop, rock, hip-hop, rap, EDM, musical theatre, and world music, so there really is something for everyone. There are lots of Metalhead Pentaholics (it's what us PTX fans are called!) and I really think you'll enjoy some of these. Enjoy the rabbit hole!
Hi! Appreciate your reaction here. I wanted to share something that I read once that had a profound impact on me: If you have a voice in your head telling you aren't good enough, I need you to know that someone else put it there. Love and solidarity, and remember to give yourself some grace today. Because you deserve that.
They are simply genius talent combined with an intense work ethic and you get brilliance every single time ,,,,11 years together , 250 plus covers and originals , every kind of music. They never miss. More PTX please
Kudos to the missus for fostering your joy, and kudos to you for opening a new musical door! New subscriber in the hope you will explore Pentatonix a little more. With a love for the Beatles and Queen, you may find their harmonies worth pursuing. They do big, lush arrangements (Can You Feel the Love Tonight from the Lion King, Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, Sound of Silence) as well as fun bops like Come Along, their 90s Dance Medley and a medley of Daft Punk songs that earned them their first Grammy. If you’re in an introspective mood, try John Lennox’s Imagine, Mad World or Say Something. They also have originals, like Coffee in Bed and Anchor. I enjoyed your reaction to Bohemian Rhapsody very much, thanks. Peace from Ohio …
Dude, you are SOOO worthy...your videos have touched me, my heart, my soul. Accepting a gift with your whole heart gives the other person happiness. And isn't that what life's all about? Keep doing your videos (with your new laptop) because I need to feel what your giving us (your viewers) Pure Happiness.🤘 Thanks again, from Texas
If you enjoyed the bass, Avi Kaplan, he has since left Pentatonix and is a gifted singer/songwriter. His first solo release was Change on the Rise in 2019. Considering your name, I think you would enjoy it!
That bass guy (Avi Kaplan) now has a successful solo career as a singer songwriter, since he left the group in 2017. Pentatonix has been around since 2011 - their version of Hallelujah has over 750 million views and really needs listening to. Their version of Imagine would definitely appeal to you. PS, Mrs Viking definitely sounds like a keeper!
The megaphone is just a prop not an actual effect. I have seen them do this song live without the megaphone and the sound Mitch creates is the same and AMAZING! To see & hear Mitch at his best listen to "AHA" live from Singapore. It, and the lead up choral arrangement, will blow your mind. Welcome down the PTX rabbit hole.
The little guy singing lead, is Mitch & people are shocked at his voice & it is known as being 'Mitch slapped' when your jaw drops. The black guy is Kevin & rarely sings, because he beat boxes & pounds his chest etc. to serve as their percussionist. The guy with the beard is Avi & he left the group to go solo & a new guy named Matt joined the group. Kirstin is the gal & Scott is the tall blonde guy. They have a zillion great songs & they do these cool medley things that will blow your mind. I love their versions of 'Sound of silence', 'Hallelujah' & 'Mary did you know'. These people are frigging amazingly talented. The 3 on the couch at the end, Kirstin, Scott & MItch have been singing together since they went to college together.
Brian May actually gave this performance a big shout out. He loved it. The megaphone is just a prop. It is not being used to distort his voice. When you hear them do this live Mitch is able to distort his voice this way without having a megaphone at all.
Really enjoyed your reaction and I just subbed. The 3 in the middle: Kirstin, Mitch and Scott are the original members and have known each other for over 20 years. Bass Avi (now Matt) and Kevin beatboxer joined them to make Pentatonix (PTX) in 2011. They are incredibly talented and have a huge selection of songs. Please react to Sound of Silence, Imagine by John Lennon, and Daft Punk (Grammy Award). 💕
Prior to 12 days of Christmas (which is probably now their most difficult song musically since every verse is ever so slightly different), Scott (tall blonde baritone) has said this is his most difficult song to sing correctly. All because of that middle section, where he's sitting in the middle of the couch, but he's singing for both sides of the argument going on around him. This is one of my overall favorite songs in existence, both Queen's version and Pentatonix's version. And Avi (bearded Bass) and Kevin (beatboxer) were aptly named Meat and Potatoes when they were in the competition they won (Season 3 of The Sing Off), and they are both 1000% amazing, and they were amazing at working together to hold down better bass/beat lines. Matt and Kevin do a really good job too, but there was something special about Avi and Kevin (probably that Avi can sing multiple notes at one time).
They did a cover of Somebody to Love as well! Mitch did Freddy proud in that also! Megaphone is only a prop, not used for sound effects. Pentatonix is in a league of their own! Hope more PTX is coming!
Avi makes wind noises while he is singing a note! He can do two notes at once! I seen him live last December! His CD is Floating on a Dream! He’s awesome!
A big thanks to your wife for helping make this happen. I also have a hard time accepting gifts and compliments, so I understand. Subbing in hope of more PTX. If you do watch more prepare to be constantly surprised. Also, just a couple of helpful hints. Mitch (tenor) and Kirsty (alto/soprano, rhymes with thirsty) change their look constantly, so if you ask "Is that .... " the answer is always yes. They have had only had 1 personnel change in 12 years. This bass Avi (av-ee) left mid 2017 and was replaced by Matt. Also excellent, but different. Scott (baritone) got these crazy talented folks together. He isn't the "lead" singer (so they keep telling us), but he is the most frequent singer. They can go loud, they can go soft, they can make you dance in your chair, they absolutely own medleys, they can rap, they can do "instrumentals", they can make you cry, and if you like Christmas music they make all the old songs sound so fresh and new. Up until their last holiday album, if they used an instrument (cello, violin, piano) they showed it in the video. We followers of PTX are called Pentaholics and we are mostly really nice and helpful. Welcome and enjoy!
Great reaction! There actually is supposed to be five of them. Their name comes from the "pentatonic scale," which is five notes per octave. Clever, huh? They just changed the ending to an x. You can't go wrong with any of their songs. You should also check out Avi Kaplan's solo work (the bass). He left the group in 2017, and started putting out his own original music in 2019. Have fun -- you have so much music to check out.
I think this is one of the hardest of Queen songs to pull off. and nobody but pentatonix pulled it off perfectly. absolutely brilliant. Thanks Viking luvd every minute. hop yr good. from 🇬🇧😄👍 an old cockney gal. b safe take care. catch you on the flip side
I love how you concentrated on that tag at the end. Avi does a masterful job of grounding that amazing resolve. No question of that. What makes it work, though, is what Mitch does immediately after Avi lands. He retunes his held note up 1/64th of a tone and then warms it up with a very understated and extremely controlled vibrato that makes what is a rather conventional chord sit up and beg. It is something nobody seems to comment on. I have been singing Barbershop Baritone for 40 years. It is the type of technique only the very best try, and only the absolute best can make work.😊
I totally relate to a wife supporting her hubby like this - it brings happiness to her, too, so accept it as well as you can 😊 So glad you enjoyed this - they are a remarkable group. Just scroll through their channel and pick something you’ll like - there will be more than you expect! Their originals are just as good, but you’ll seek those out after you appreciate some covers ;-)
So glad you have a working computer! If you enjoy doing reactions and we like hearing them, it's win, win. Try Daft Punk (Grammy winner) or their excellent EDM based original Love Again. Either way the bass, beat boxer and more general vocal performances will impress you. They all can sing very well, although the beat boxer, Kevin, rarely gets a chance to solo given how important his beat boxing is. They cover a wide range of genres incredibly well. Have subscribed in the hope that you do more Pentatonix.
After Pentatonix won _The Sing-Off_ in 2011, with the prize of $200,000 and a recording contract, they all moved to southern California to begin their recording career. And a week after they won the contract, the company reneged on the deal, saying that they didn't know how to market an a cappella band. But Pentatonix wasn't willing to give up on their dream, so they set about making it come true. They still had the $200,000, so they used it as seed money. They shared apartments and lived frugally. And they used their iPhones to record themselves, anywhere they could find decent acoustics (parking garages, stairwells, closets...) and posted their videos to UA-cam, where they began to build up a following. Most of those early videos show five very young people on a couch, the trio (Kirstin, Mitch, and Scott) sitting on the back of the couch with Kevin and Avi in front of them, all singing their hearts out. *This* couch had to be motorized so it could take them on a trip down Memory Lane. As for the megaphone, Mitch saw it lying on the set and thought it would make a cool prop, and it's been confusing people ever since. It was turned off. Those guitar solos are all Mitch. They chose Mitch to be the main lead because his voice is right for it; any physical resemblance to Freddie Mercury is just icing on the cake. Pentatonix *always* treats songs and the artists who originally sang those songs with the utmost respect. When they upgrade a song they do so by finding a way to somehow make it more itself. But for them, "Bohemian Rhapsody" and Queen are special. They wanted to cover "Bohemian Rhapsody" from the time they first began as a band, but they were afraid that they couldn't do justice to it, so they decided to wait until they thought they were ready. That took five years, but it was worth the wait. They were ready. The starry night sky during Mitch's second guitar solo is in honor of Brian May, who has a doctorate in astrophysics. The four shooting stars are for the four members of Queen. And when the camera pans down from the sky to show the five of them sprawled on the couch, that picture is meant to pay tribute to the cover art for Queen's _Sheer Heart Attack_ album. As I said, Queen is special to them. When this video came out, Brian May posted a link to it on all his social media accounts, with a single word comment: "Enjoy."
There is a balance in the Universe; Giving on one side - Receiving on the other. You are a child of the Universe and you deserve all the good things that come into your life. No matter how you feel, just say "Thank you", smile, and move forward. Viking, you have brought much happiness into my life with your reactions. Thank you for bring you.
The crazy thing is they only used the megaphone for the video, he did the sound with just his voice. The megaphone was to just help fans know what was going on and visual effects. amazing
If you like Beetles they do a fantastic redirion of Imagine. Kevin the beatboxer is fabulous. He occasionally plays the cello and will beatbox while doing it. He is an angelic tenor a d has done all three in a song. You might also like Daft Punk or Love again
The megaphone is a prop and Mitch doesn't use it during live concerts. The shot of the night sky is a tribute to Queen guitarist and astrophysicist, Dr Brian May, and of course 4 shooting stars, one for every member of Queen.
Your wife sounds like a gem! How wonderful of her to give you a gift that’s enabling you to continue reacting on UA-cam. And what a great choice as your first reaction back! This is one Pentatonix held off doing for years because they didn’t think they could do it justice. I think they did a pretty good job of it, don’t you? They also did a ‘Behind the Scenes’ video of their one (1!) night of shooting this. Watch for Kevin falling off the couch in the background. And in the shot of the night sky and the shooting stars, note there are only 4 shooting stars, one for each member of Queen. And I will repeat what I know has been said elsewhere. Brian May, Queen’s guitarist/astrophysicist, posted a link to this video with the comment ‘enjoy’. And the megaphone Mitch uses is simply a prop. He can do the electric guitar without it. You are indeed the model of a true Viking (even if it happens you aren’t one) in that you can never feel worthy or deserving of a gift such as Mrs Viking gave you. You are worthy though. She knows.
Before I retired, I used to be in charge of maintenance and repair for a community arts center. One day, I was working in (what was generally referred to as) the “clay room,” when I noticed a label that had been placed on a repurposed gallon ice cream container; it read “GLAZING THONGS”. Ouch. (Sorry, I just couldn't resist giving you another example of a slip-of-the-thong.) * cough * I appreciate that you gave us a glimpse into the heart of your relationship with your wife; her words are a very powerful message that I'd like to (with your permission) print and hang on the wall above my laptop. We who are of a “giving only” mindset need to be gently reminded that receiving is not only acceptable, it is crucial to creating and maintaining fairness in our dealings with others. By “fairness,” I mean allowing others to feel the joy of GIVING something to us, in return, is an essential component of “being fair,” of keeping us all “equal”. I think my Mother-in-Law put it best (when my family did something nice for her family), by saying, “Well, we don't want to be beholden to them”. (Just in case someone reading this isn't familiar with archaic English phrases, The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines “beholden” (adjective) as “being under obligation for a favor or gift: INDEBTED”.) At first, I felt affronted by her statement but, after a long “discussion” (translate that as “re-training session”) with my wife, I grudgingly accepted that I had misinterpreted the sentiment behind it. I still do things for others (such as maintenance, repair, building projects, etc) and try to refuse recompense of any kind; after all, when a person lives by the maxim 'It is more blessed to give than to receive,' it goes against the grain to be on the wrong side of the bargain. However, to honor the memory of my late wife, I'm learning to GIVE others the opportunity to be on the “more blessed” side. Isn't it amazing how our wives can help us see beyond our preconceived notions about what is “proper behavior” by simply showing us that we are as deserving of help as everyone else? And you responded by giving your wife what she asked for. Seems like a fair exchange to me. 🙂
this might be my fav PTX reaction on this cover. Thanks for putting so much into it. PTX is a sure bet for finding something to react to. One of my fav PTX songs is an older original "Love Again"
Good to see you back, Viking! And mad kudos to you're wife for helping you out! That being said, Pentatonix is definitely a rabbit hole worth diving into, and I see many people are already making recommendations lol. Hopefully you will get around to the other two groups which make up the "acapella trifecta": Home Free and VoicePlay. Home Free tends to be more country-oriented in their covers (with a few exceptions here and there). VoicePlay has a much wider range of genres, and depending on what song they're singing, they strongly imply theatrics in their videos. Since you're a fellow heathen, I bet you would love VoicePlay's cover of "My Mother Told Me"! Avi Kaplan is an awesome bass singer, but just wait until you hear the pipes of Tim Foust (Home Free) and the incredible range of Geoff Castellucci (VoicePlay)! Geoff also does solo work and make some pretty nice covers himself. Again, good to see you back brother, and may the gods ever be in your favor! SKÅL! 🍻
PTX has a knack for making you enjoy types of music you would normally not listen to. Recommend their Daft Punk (medley). They won their first Grammy with it. Subscribed.
Mitch might be the reincarnation of Freddie Mercury. Freddie died in November 1991 and Mitch was born in July 1992. He can also grow the Freddie mustache. It is so close to matching it is kinda creepy. The Grassi Guitar does not require a megaphone. It is just a prop to draw attention to who is making the sound. I heard it done live and it was EPIC!
It's wild, this is probably the last PTX video of yours that I've watched (love the rest of them!) and I love seeing your FIRST TIME reactions to them after seeing how much you've come to love the group. Love the content keep it up
i hear you about getting things/being the center of attention. still, it is good for you to practice it even if it is uncomfortable. let it happen. that was a lovely thing your wife did. you must be worth it. great reaction. pentatonix picks who sings whatever line/word by whoever is best for it;; its all about the vocals. they do 'imagine' and 'mad world' and a daft pumk medley or 'radioactive'. they sing all genres of music, plus original music, plue other languages..
Their name comes from a pentatonic scale (5 note scale) 5 notes, 5 members. Most of their songs and covers are totally a cappella. They occasionally include instruments (piano, violin and/or cello) but they show them in the video when used. Kevin is the beatboxer, he also sings tenor and plays cello.
Some of my favorites are The Sound of Silence & Can You Feel The Love Tonight (they have a new bass singer in both of those after this one here left for personal reasons.) Might not fit what you normally do though. They do have a video for radioactive.
They still give me chills after 10 years. I remember showing this to my dad and caught him listening to it on his headphones several times lol. Love these guys. I subbed in hopes of watching you react to more! Thanks dude.
Yay Mrs Viking. Actually Brian May has a link to this cover on his social media site with the one word caption. Enjoy. First time viewer and an instant subscriber. If you are interested in doing other Pentatonix songs, I have alot of suggestions. I will look at the other things on your channel and see what might fit.
Take good care of your wife it doesnt get better than that and its a true prove of how much she loves you. if you think you aren't'worthy of gifts and compliments than that is prove that you are and you are so worthy cause the videos you make, make my days better you always lift me up. your true and humble appreciation of the music you react to is heartwarming. thank you so much and keep going making the world a better place.
Hi Viking. yes you are worthy. you bring so much joy to me and others that watch your channel that why we keep coming back for more. never ever be a shamed to show your feelings either. your only human. from 🇬🇧😄👍 an old cockney gal
They do another improbable thing - EDM! They did a complicated medley of Daft Punk songs called Daft Punk and an original song called Love Again. I can't think of any other metal. Metal songs are a huge investment in arrangement and training time for them. They do some old rock songs like Sound Of Silence and Imagine. Also somewhat newer ones such as Radioactive. Pop is their sweet spot because of their voice mix : Havana, Say Something, Shallow, Cheerleader, Hallelujah and Perfect. Most of their originals are in the pop realm. Their baritone (Scott, tall blond) can also sing tenor and some bass. Their bass, Avi, sings really low with very accurate pitch and can sing some low tenor also. Their mezzo soprano, Kirstin, has a killer belt range (think Disney princess songs) and has some really high range for a mezzo. Mitch is just scary. He has a good low tenor along with that clean balanced high range. Their beatboxer, Kevin, sings occasionally in tenor or high tenor when they can spare his drums. He has another surprise that you can find in Radioactive, Papaoutai, Shallow, Perfect and Say Something.
Sweet video. I appreciate the candor in the beginning, I have similar hang-ups around compliments and gifts and never know how to react or thank my husband who loves to try to spoil me. Very enjoyable reaction video.
i understand i feel the same i always put my family first and for me to recieve is difficult. but i have come to believe in recieving the gift it is good as the gift to them when you can accept it for them to feel that feeling of giving too
They always wanted to do this song but not until they got it perfect - so it took them 5 years to get everything right in terms of paying tribute to Queen and Freddie. They also won't record a song that they can't do live... and yes, they do this one live. There's a new upload on YT of them doing this song live at the Hollywood Bowl - check it out and you'll really fall in love with these super-talented people!
hey man from baltimore, the pucker face from Avi(the bass) is because he can make two sounds at once. he is doing the wind while he is singing bass!(CRAZY) he can also sing overtones while singing bass lines.
I thought it interesting to see as it generally doesn’t help the quality of the vocals to close your mouth like that. That is cool though and would make total sense!
Viking Reacts, you have GOT to watch Penatonix sing Aha! live in Singapore. Look up Pentatonix - Aha!, Singapore, The Star Vista. The beginning is stunningly beautiful, but it really gets going shortly after the 0:50 mark. Mitch is INCREDIBLE.
Much love to Mrs Viking! ❤ I really appreciate your reactions. 👌🏻 I'm a huge Queen and Beatles fan (thanks dad!), especially Queen. So much so that Freddie was my second crush, right after Darth Vader. 🙈😅 This cover is amazing and since I love all low voices (drums, bass, cello, whatnot), my ears and eyes are always drawn to Avi. 👀 But Mitch is awesome too. They all are though. 😍
I too grew up on Queen, etc. One that will almost probably blow your mind is "Aha!" Star Vista. They just posted another video from that venue, the one you will want is from 7 years ago. Gives you the deepest from Avi and the highest from Mitch (who has a talent that is very rare).
In case nobody mentioned it, this song was not only done in one take (they ran out of time due to a lot of issues and got help from a construction crew for the lights near the end), and that microphone was only for show, it had no batteries in it
Great Reaction!!!! And Your Wife is So Beautiful!!!! And I'm So Excited that Your Wife asked You to React to Pentatonix!!!! Definitely The Perfect Rabbit Hole to go Down!!!!
Seeing how emotional you got haveing the opportunity to do this recordings again -> got you a new subscriber. And I never comment or like, but this one gets a fat "yes", even without seeing the whole video (stopped at 3:19, and will continue now). Dankeschön :-)
Das macht diesen Kommentar noch spezieller. Es sind die Verbindungen, die wir durch Musik herstellen, die mich mit Freude und Dankbarkeit erfüllen. Ich danke dir! ;)
@@VikingReacts At least I did not know, I only knew that you can speak perfect German due to your Rammstein reactions. I was born and raised in Austria, but no worries, I speak German too :P ;)
Brian May responded positively to this and the starey sky in the end with shooting stars is a tribute to him since he's an astrophysicist.. (..also, Mitch doesn't need the megaphone to sound like the guitar.. doesn't use it in live performances) They have many wonderful originals as well!
They pride themselves on being able to sing any of their songs live. No megaphone needed. Daft Punk is their first Grammy. I recommend that one.
I also recommend Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. The irony of an acapella group winning a Grammy for a song with no lyrics.
I have to agree to Daft Punk! And of course Imagine.
Actually, the megaphone is only a prop. It does not enhance the sound of Mitch's voice at all. They often perform live without it.
Yes they do, they say if they can’t do it live they won’t record it
Like Freddie himself said: "Do what you want with my music just dont make it boring"
and this certainly was not
Having grown up on the Beatles, you'll likely appreciate their cover of John Lennon's "Imagine". It's fantastic.
I agree that song is outstanding from them.

I didn't luv all the Beatles songs but I did imagine. so beautiful. Its a shame what happened to John Lennon so sad. hope you are well. b safe take care. from 🇬🇧😄👍 an old cockney gal
Agreed!
The mega phone is just a prop. They perform this live. It's all Mitch. Also, Brain May from Queen saw this and posted ( enjoy)
Even more impressive in that case :)
Yes, if you enjoy an exceptional bass voice , listen to Avi's solo music!
Yes Avi's solo stuff is fantastic!
Kudos to Mrs. VIKING! Team work and when a woman loves her partner and he loves her.❤💕❤💕Happy Valentine's Day!
YESSS MORE MUSIC FROM AVI PLEASEEE
Pentatonix has always had five members. The group name is inspired by the pentatonic scale (used a lot in pop music) as well as "penta" meaning "five" because they have five members. Kevin, the beatboxer, also sings and plays cello when they need an instrument. He's an all-around talent and practically a genius in his own right.
I know that I should have mentioned that I meant 4 because of Queen having 4 band members ;). Sorry about that…
Kevin isn't practically a genius.
@@Eric1SanDiego1 , I’ve never heard Ben Bram described as their manager. He is their arranger.
@@susanpeterson9947 Sorry, I meant to say Producer.
Members:
Scott Hoying - tall blond guy- baritone - covers bass when bass is singing lead.
Mitch Grassi- Freddie Mercury look-alike- tenor/counter tenor.
Kirstin ( Kirstie) Maldonado -blond ( occasionally) female- mezzo soprano- great belting abilities
Kevin Olusola- beatboxer/ tenor/cellist.
Kevin is also fluent in Mandarin.
You have such an awesome wife. That she sees that you have so much joy and buys you a new pc is not a small thing at all. Everyone give me a HELL YEAH tot his wife!!🤘🏻
I already love her and this just made me fall in love again :). She took me by surprise...
Hell yeah!
Hell Yeah!!! Let's hear it for Mrs. Viking!!!
Hell Yeah, and then some!!!!
Mitch doesn’t use the mega phone when preforming this live. Sounds the same!!! It’s AMAZING!
@ruth2141, well said. That is very good advice.
Dont forget “ Amazing Grace and Mary did you know ? “
Small correction. Not covers. Upgrades😘
@@reneeg9406 indeed! 😉😊
@Joquita Sullivan their version of Mary Did You Know is my favorite Christmas song to listen to every year, it's beautiful and chilling and humbling and joyous somehow all at the same time. Amazing
I got through the worst of the pandemic by watching Queen and Pentatonix videos. I get a similar positive energy from both groups.
I was exactly the same, queen and pentatonix got me through Covid, in fact my theme song then was queen 'keep yourself alive'....
Me too!
So did I. I found them and 'Disturbed', during the pandemic. It helped as my family had to self isolate for the full two+ years.
I wanted to share something that I read once that had a profound impact on me:
If you have a voice in your head telling you aren't good enough, I need you to know that someone else put it there.
Love and solidarity, and remember to give yourself some grace today. Because you deserve that.
David May said this was the best version he has heard. 👌👍🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️👍
Just going thru the Ptx reactions I missed!! You have a wonderful wife!!! And she's a Pentaholic too!! The lady has awesome taste!!!
Welcome to the PTX rabbit hole, you really can't go wrong with any of their songs. they are just simply amazing!
Definitely one for the Vikings!
Oh yes, Avi is so powerful in 'Change on the rise'.
I love the way that the video is screen size and you are not even in a box!! good job. So enjoyable for me.
The benefits of having done gaming live streams in the past with a green screen behind me ;). Glad you enjoyed!
“My kinda thing is not defined” - love it! Enjoyed ur reaction, hope you’ll explore this talented group some more 🙌
The little guy singing lead, is Mitch & people are shocked at his voice & it is known as being 'Mitch slapped' when your jaw drops.
You deserve all good things because you're worth it.😊
They did a cover of Somebody to Love as well!
Love it! When this came out Brian May tweeted... "Enjoy!" He loved it.
It is the type of technique only the very best try, and only the absolute best can make work.😊
I totally relate to a wife supporting her hubby like this - it brings happiness to her, too, so accept it as well as you can 😊
So glad you enjoyed this - they are a remarkable group.
A real man understands sacrifice from the heroes stand.. not the intended.
Mitch is making the distortion-like sound with just his voice. The megaphone is just a visual effect.
Now that is cool and it does make total sense!
She knows.
2:44 I totally relate to your feelings regarding receiving compliments and gifts. I’m so glad you have a spouse who knows how to show you love!
Before I retired, I used to be in charge of maintenance and repair for a community arts center. One day, I was working in (what was generally referred to as) the “clay room,” when I noticed a label that had been placed on a repurposed gallon ice cream container; it read “GLAZING THONGS”. Ouch. (Sorry, I just couldn't resist giving you another example of a slip-of-the-thong.) * cough *
I appreciate that you gave us a glimpse into the heart of your relationship with your wife; her words are a very powerful message that I'd like to (with your permission) print and hang on the wall above my laptop.
(Just in case someone reading this isn't familiar with archaic English phrases, The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines “beholden” (adjective) as “being under obligation for a favor or gift: INDEBTED”.)
At first, I felt affronted by her statement but, after a long “discussion” (translate that as “re-training session”) with my wife, I grudgingly accepted that I had misinterpreted the sentiment behind it.
What an awesome wife you have. ❤ And you DO deserve it. I'm all new to your channel, but ALL people deserve love and appreciation. 😊
this might be my fav PTX reaction on this cover.
SKÅL! 🍻
Your wife sounds like a very special kind soul. That's so touching! ❤
Must watch Daft Punk and Hallelujah, both fantastic 🙂
We all need more joy in our lives. You pump a lot of joy into my headphones, so thank you!
It's wild, this is probably the last PTX video of yours that I've watched (love the rest of them!) and I love seeing your FIRST TIME reactions to them after seeing how much you've come to love the group. Love the content keep it up
Your wife sounds amazing. Everyone deserves love. Great reaction, subbed in hopes of more Pentatonix.
Brian May posted the link to the Video on his website and simply said one word... "Enjoy".
The base is Avi Kaplan. He's doing a solo career now. You NEED to check out his 'Change on the Rise'. That is a Viking song if I've ever heard one. :)
It is on the list :)
i hear you about getting things/being the center of attention. still, it is good for you to practice it even if it is uncomfortable. let it happen. that was a lovely thing your wife did. you must be worth it. great reaction. pentatonix picks who sings whatever line/word by whoever is best for it;; its all about the vocals. they do 'imagine' and 'mad world' and a daft pumk medley or 'radioactive'. they sing all genres of music, plus original music, plue other languages..
Today, PTX officially has a star on the Hollywood boardwalk! 🥳🤗
Well deserved!
If you love the bass he has gone solo. You should check out his solo stuff so good. Would recommend Change on the rise.
You should also react to Avi Kaplan's (the bass) solo music. He's an incredible singer/songwriter.
I agree!
Some of my favorites are The Sound of Silence & Can You Feel The Love Tonight (they have a new bass singer in both of those after this one here left for personal reasons.) Might not fit what you normally do though. They do have a video for radioactive.
I second these recommendations
Fun fact, that megaphone I'd strictly a prop, he's doing that with his voice. Seen it done live. Group is absolutely amazing
They still give me chills after 10 years. I remember showing this to my dad and caught him listening to it on his headphones several times lol. Love these guys. I subbed in hopes of watching you react to more! Thanks dude.
Accepting gifts is just as important because it blesses the giver.
Yay Mrs Viking.
Actually Brian May has a link to this cover on his social media site with the one word caption. Enjoy.

So many to chose from, but really fun introduction to their crazy side: Love Again and Daft Punk.
Congratulations on finding someone to spend your life with who appreciates you as you should be!
You should definitely check out their live Star Wars Tribute from the Billboard Music Awards! You'd love it! Great reaction!
The megaphone is a prop. Mitch achieves the same sound in live performances without it.
Apparently the best way is to hug and say thank you ;). Who knew :p
i understand i feel the same i always put my family first and for me to recieve is difficult. but i have come to believe in recieving the gift it is good as the gift to them when you can accept it for them to feel that feeling of giving too
They always wanted to do this song but not until they got it perfect - so it took them 5 years to get everything right in terms of paying tribute to Queen and Freddie. They also won't record a song that they can't do live... and yes, they do this one live. There's a new upload on YT of them doing this song live at the Hollywood Bowl - check it out and you'll really fall in love with these super-talented people!
No reverb. No auto tune. No effects...Kevin & Avi does the effects. The megaphone is a prop. Mitch is doing the sound with his voice.
More Pentatonix please. If you like Avi's base, react to his original song Change on the Rise.
hey man from baltimore,
the pucker face from Avi(the bass) is because he can make two sounds at once. he is doing the wind while he is singing bass!(CRAZY)
he can also sing overtones while singing bass lines.
I thought it interesting to see as it generally doesn’t help the quality of the vocals to close your mouth like that. That is cool though and would make total sense!
@@VikingReacts there is a video showing overtone singing; ua-cam.com/video/2i61_JNc_Nc/v-deo.html
I’m so glad you’re back! You’re amazing!
Love your reaction. If you do go down the PTX rabbit hole, check out Sound of Silence next. 😊
OMG I’m obsessed! Subbing in hopes for more PTX! Great reaction man!
Yeah. This Song without Instruments.... Unbelievable. So good
I too grew up on Queen, etc.
Ich danke dir! ;)
By the way: did I mention I was born and raised in Germany even though I am Dutch?
I loved your reactions and comments to Pentatonix "Bohemian rhapsody ❤❤❤❤
