    After selling my boat 20+ years ago, I stopped fishing except with friends (I was in the back of their boat). I'm now getting back into it with my own boat. I have a Helix 7 with mega down imaging and GPS. I found that the technology had left me behind. It's amazing what these units can do these days. All that said, I'm a bit overwhelmed on how to set it up. So I Googled it. I found your videos on this exact topic. Dude, you have now placed me much higher on the learning curve. I still have much to learn. But because of your excellent explanations and your examples, I'm a hell of a lot better at it now than I was. Much appreciated. I'm now a subscriber.

    Yet another excellent video! I really like this series of sonar videos. It is very educational for me. My present sonar is only 2D with GPS and maps, I am considering getting a new Hummingbird Mega with 2D, DI, and SI. Something I would like to see in this series is for you to use the sonar to find a brushpile, set a GPS waypoint for it (maybe throw a buoy), move off a few yards, and then show how to use the GPS to navigate back to the brushpile (and catch a few fish). Thanks again for an excellent series. Keep doing what you're doing. Glad to see your subscribers are growing.

    Just joined would like to see about winter crappie fishing i have a new garmin 94sv still learning to use it when using Clearview when you go over a brush pile how far will it be behind boat when you see it this is the kind of stuff I'm trying to learn I have trouble judging how to be on top of the pile to fish looking forward learning more from you

    • @FloppingCrappie
      @FloppingCrappie  3 роки тому

      When in clear vu mode on your 94sv, as soon as an object appear on the right side of the screen is when you are over the top of that object (brushpile in this case). The top right corner of your screen ( in clear vu) represents where your transducer is mounted on your boat. The image will start on the right side (below the transducer) and will move the left of the screen. As the image moves across the screen, the further is is behind your transducer. Hope this helps.

    Just subscribed this past week. Excellent information and explanation. HB should be after you to do some of their work on explaining how to do some of these things. I have the HB 7 DI GPS on my trolling motor MK Terrova. i swear by the DI and images I see. One little point of criticism, hopefully you take it as constructive, is watch your direction when filming. You're getting a lot of shadows of your body on the screen and it becomes a distraction watching what you're explaining and seeing this movement going on. Otherwise very very pleased with the work you have been doing. Keep it up.Thank you from another old fisherman hitting 73 this month.

    • @FloppingCrappie
      @FloppingCrappie  5 років тому

      Thanks for subscribing Brian, and yes there have been a few comments about the shadow/glare on the screen. I recently bought a screen protector which is supposed to reduce glare/shadows, but if that doesn't work I may have to look into building a hood/cover for the screen. the difficult part of filming these videos is some structure (brush, trees, rocks, etc.) can only be viewed when moving the boat in a certain direction, the sun usually doesn't like to cooperate. Thanks for subscribing and thanks for watching!

      Yesterday I tried out a new triple shot. The sonar works. It has so many features , hook 2 5ts, that it'll take me til the end of summer to figure it all out.
      Has gps charting and maps installed and is quite a lot of machine for not a lot of loot.
      I'd been hesitating because I put it on a aluminum jon with a 15 horse Johnson outboard. It's a duck boat with a deck and trolling motor. Poor man's bass boat. Surprisingly the sonar worked right off the bat other than I had the bracket upside down. The wire notch goes up. D'oh.

As a casual fisherman who gets out 3 or 4 times a month it's good to see some of the more practical applications of electronics. Yes, you can use a split screen setting to run all at once. There shouldn't be any issues other than a smaller screen

    I just need you to come on down to Houston and show my how to use my Solix15! lol There's so many settings on this dang thing that I seem to get overwhelmed. I know the dang unit takes snap shots of the screen too when you zoom in but I haven't figured it out yet.
    I just found you from SK's channel and I have subscribed to you so I'll stay tuned for more H'Bird how to videos. Then I need to learn how to edit videos for my channel lol Mine are un-edited versions. SK had a look at them today and said he enjoyed watching them but they are nothing like yawls, only big fish catching so I have a lot to learn.
    Keep the videos coming.

    Very helpful. Why is it that no one seems to use fish ID on the Humminbirds? I use it but haven't seen any videos where other people use that feature.

    • @FloppingCrappie
      @FloppingCrappie  6 років тому

      Fish ID on any fish finder unit can be very inaccurate when it comes to viewing fish and cover. The problem with fish ID is that it assumes any hard ping from the sonar is a fish. This could be a tip of a branch in a brush pile or a tall stalk of weeds. When using regular 2D, you will be able to tell the difference between a fish and weeds or cover.

    The meter to the right of your 2d, not the color bar but the meter that flickers and shows what’s “printing” on the 2d scan. What is that called and how do I turn that on my helix 9?

    • @FloppingCrappie

      That's called the amplitude meter or RTS (real time sonar). In the sonar menu, there should be an option to turn on RTS

    When you see structure on your down imaging, is it right under the boat or 30 ft on either side?

    • @FloppingCrappie
      @FloppingCrappie  2 роки тому

      On down imaging, it is mostly directly under your boat. I say "mostly " because the down imaging beam does show some area left and right of your boat, but not the same distance as side imaging.

    awesome instructional videos.. I'd like to see exactly what you do when you find the brush piles to then go back and stick your boat exactly on them and then fish them.. finding structure is fine but you are already past them by then,, what do you do AFTER you spot the brush piles with side imaging or down imaging with the boat to put yourself where you know the spot to drop your jigs?.. do you toss out a marker buoy backhanded as soon as your down imaging or chip blows up on the brush pile?.. btw I have a Minn Kota Ultrex that has spot lock and will have in a few days the Humminbird Helix 12 Chirp MSI GPS G3N Fishing Chart.. I do mainly crappie(pulling) in late winter and spring and striper fishing in SC.. I'd really like to look for brush piles when they go to the 25 foot range in warmer weather,, also shooting docks for crappie using the side scan just got easier for people watching your side scan instructional video and that's a blast too.. oh and I'm a subscriber for sure..thanks again..

    As the screen moves from right to left. When the brush pile in the center of the screen does that mean it's at the transom of your boat?

    • @FloppingCrappie
      @FloppingCrappie  5 років тому +1

      no, the transducer is mounted on my transom. So the very far right of the screen is where my transom is located, anything showing up on the screen is now behind my boat.

    • @FloppingCrappie
      @FloppingCrappie  5 років тому

      anything you see on the very right side of the screen would be directly below the boat. as the image moves from left to right across the screen, that image/fish is further behind the boat. This is historical data. The transducer only reads directly below the boat vertically (it can see side to side with down imaging though).

      Absolutely have learned so much from your videos. I’m with Jake, I’m struggling to understand the orientation of what I see on my screen to what’s under the boat with down imaging. For instance, is what is on the bottom part of the screen indicating what the left part of the cone is picking up and as you advance up the screen from top to bottom are you moving from left to right of cone reading (speaking as if left is drivers left and right is drivers right).
      Hope that question isn’t confusing. 😳

    Hi guys !
    I need your advice to choose a humminbird helix or a garmin striker, who better shows fish at a depth of 10 meters?

    • @FloppingCrappie
      @FloppingCrappie  5 років тому

      Well, both units use the same frequency when. It comes to 2d sonar. I am referring to the Garmin striker 7 sidevu series vs. The humminbird helix 7 si. The garmin is selling for $500 on Amazon, where the humminbird is selling for $700. Both have side imaging, down imaging and GPS capabilities. They both have same screen resolution, show same picture. If I were choosing between the two right now, I would go with the garmin striker 7
