- Опубліковано 11 жов 2024
- This new recall not only affects V6 Acura vehicles but now also affects V6 Honda vehicles. This is a big deal since the V6 engine have been known to have issues with rod bearing failure. Definitely give your dealer a call to get your vehicle checked out.

According to documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the fuel pump impeller used for in 2017-2020 Acura are all recalled
Wait, can you “inspect” the rod bearings without taking the engine apart? I doubt dealers are going to do that in mass.
No way,, it's huge issue. huge
June 2023 My 2017 TLX v6 sh-awd had a weird knocking noise under the hood. The dealership said it was the rod bearings and replaced the engine. Thank goodness I was still under warranty. So I guess all along it was due to the problems following this recall.
How long did it take them to replace it?
Yeah my 2017 Ridgeline is part of the list unfortunately this might take a long time to get the parts before we can schedule anything. I asked the dealer when I was there for the tailgate camera harness around 2 weeks ago and they don't have any news about parts as of now
@hukmai thanks for the update. I heard around February. If you can keep us posted. 👊🏼
@HondaJon will do, with this in addition the fuel pump recall on many honda models + crv stop sale honda is probably slammed.
Honda and Toyota just ain't what they used to be!
Better than the domestic 3 auto manufacturers anydays.
@@theeverythingchannelyt548 Not the point, Honda today is still worse than Honda 20 years ago. Good chance it's not as much their fault as the fault of regulators that make manufacturers squeeze more MPG out every generation, ever pushing for lighter (weaker) engine components, tighter tolerances, and thinner oil.
@@treelineresearch3387and that stupid CVT Transmission
Especially Honda
Can’t go wrong with a 1ZZ!
With millions of engines manufactured, I'm surprised this kind of issue isn't more common. Journals are machined and final sizing by computer-aided process and if a clearance is just a few ten-thousandths too tight, that bearing will run too hot. Pile onto that if the maintenance is not done on time, or crappy oil, or the wrong grade (too thick) is used, the problem will crop-up sooner. If your engine calls for 5W-20, don't dump 20W-50 in there thinking it's somehow better. The only way to avoid this problem is to have every single journal, bearing and connecting rod big-end looked at and measured by a human. With mass-production, that would be too expensive to do, so if a bad batch gets through, it's rare. But, it's the bad news which makes headlines, not the millions of great-running engines out there going millions of trouble-free miles.
hey Jon keep up the good work
Our 2016 Honda Pilot started knocking hard intermittently with an emissions warning and blinking check engine. Dealer said it's a rod knocking and want $8,600 for new engine. 95,000 miles and perfect by the book maintenance. I'm the only owner. We started a good will request with Honda. We'll see if they own up.
Come on Honda, tighten up. I bought a 2020 Ridgeline 4 years ago and lately a 2019 Passport (which is not on the list) because the J35 is a more than 25 year experience engine design. Yeah, follow KIA/Hyndai lead and see how that works out!
Hyundai has recalled 1.4 million engines because they didn't clean out the engine blocks with machining chips.
All car companies are just turning out junk , Honda has been very reliable but has change greatly in the last 10 years , nissan also they have turned out more junk engines then people know now coming back to haunt them.
I have an 18 MDX AWD Advance with 53k and is the first vehicle I have owned that does not use even 1 drop of oil. Honestly kinda boring not having to add oil. Also the first Honda I have ever owned. It falls under the vin range, but honestly, do I want a dealer ripping off my oil pan just to tell me they looked at it and everything looks good, no parts needed? Makes me stressed out just thinking about it. They will bend my rocker pinch welds when they lift the car inproperly, it will get at least a couple door dents in the parking lot, and my oil pan gasket and bolts may or may not get reinstalled (torqued) properly. I never use dealers for anything because most of them now not only overcharge you 3x, but do not correctly perform repairs often times. Makes me shutter just thinking about it.
Doubt it should start burining oil yet.
I’m a service advisor for Acura and they told us 95% of the vehicles recalled will need the bearings replaced.
@@fapmonstergabe8411 thank you for letting me know that, truly appreciated. My CPO b2b warranty runs out mid March and then the powertrain warranty runs out next December (my mileage is only 53k so age will hit before mileage) but I'm gonna plan on scheduling late Feb or early March for both recalls, if they are ready for them yet. Reason being is because the motor on my 18 Advance has a squeak issue. Very odd. A constant squeak squeak does not increase or decrease with rpm, squeaks when going over a bump, a squeak when I tap the accelerator pedal, and a squeak when I turn the engine off. Sounds like the belt tensioner to me, but others have said it could be the motor mount. Not a belt squeal. Definitely need it taken care of before warranty expiration it's so annoying. I want to like my purchase so much but it's fighting me. haha. Had a similar squeak on my cx9 that was a vacuum line loosely attached to the plenum panel and just needed tightened with a lock washer. It was rubbing another rubber/metal component causing a constant squeak. This however on the Acura appears to be something more complex.
I understand you. I took my Ford Escape in one time to have an oil change and tire rotation. They caught one of the rims on the arm of the lift while turning into the stall. It ruined both the rim and tire. About $1,400 in damage. They tried to deny they did it and said I hit a pothole. Holy smokes was I pissed off. I told them better look at your camera footage. And I said look at any of the other rims on my vehicle and see if there are any scratches. I said if you find a scratch I’ll walk away. The service manager went around to all the other rims and tires, and there wasn’t any road rash at all on them. So they replaced both the rim and tire. I’ve never ever been back to that dealership.
I think all the reasons is the fuel pump is bad so car can’t accelerate and all engine lights go on
What about the 1.5t head gasket failures? I wonder if those will be recalled to?
Should be!!!! I have 6 payments left in my 1.5 accord and I’m babying it with a bad HG
Why would a 2017 ridge line be recalled but not the 2017 pilot?
Dealer says bearing change/inspection 4-4.5 hours. For minor damage. Then crank damage then engine replacement.
If the crank shaft was incorrectly machined, the damage is done. I can't imagine a dealership having anyone capable of pulling off the connecting rod caps, they have to pull off the oil pan,. seals, etc. THey will never get it back the same as the factory would.
Using water thin oil, 0w-15 and super tight bearing clearances, only a 10 micron clearance, (25 microns = .0010 inch) there is no room for mistakes. Since this went on for several years I am wondering if this is also a design mistake?
Honda estimates only 1% of all recalled vehicles are actually affected by this issue
That is true. However that’s still hundreds of thousands of car owners possibly having major engine issues.
@@HondaJonme with my 16 Acura tlx
good thing I have a 2015 pilot before the minivan look change
Thanks for the update.
The recall documentation says it expects only about 1 percent of recalled vehicles will be found to have the defect.
Glad my 2015 coupe v6 aint on there.
What the hell is going on with all these car companies and their issues.
Seems 2019-2023 is a disaster
Sheesh they dodged that one, no civics or accords
Connecting rod bearings, that's gonna be expensive.
$8,600 the dealer wants for a 2016 Pilot with knocking rod.
@@CriticalThinker27 It needs a new engine, the only good fix
What about the passport? My engine is making noises like there is marbles in it.. it is the v6...
I would check the oil first off. Or it might need the valves adjusted
Bingo, you got one.
Spung bearing Cyl No3 .. Ridgeline 2018, 125000Km.. Return to my first love..Lexus..
I have also had the recall notice for my 2019 low mileage ridgeline, and if your vehicle need the fix of rod or main bearings how will this be accomplished with the engine in place, or will it need to be removed. Job one is getting it repaired and job two is to trade it in.
What is the fix your talking about a engine internal problem
Are accord 2016 V6 included on this list??
Can you tell me if my 2017 Acura MDX 3.5 V6 is/could be affected?

is this issue affecting Honda vehicles world wide or only those in America? are engines built the same in different continents ?
My guess would be just America. Nothing good ever comes outta it or to it.
I have Accord 1.5 sport 2019, My car stopped on highway, engine was idling but was unable to put in any gear (reverse or drive). I get towed and Honda Dealership is closed until holidays, What do you think could be the reasor for that transmission failure?
That's the turbo right?
It’s probably the gas pump
Update- Honda changed whole transmission under warranty, Belt Was gone inside transmission, HONDA CVT is BAD 👎, It was only 65000 km when it happened, I was looking for 5-7 more years with this car but now I'm disappointed 😞
@@manpreetkaur-nc8oldang I hope mine doesn’t do that. I have 2018 1.5 with about 45,000 miles I’m hoping to get another 100k miles lol or 10 years
@@manpreetkaur-nc8ol I changed my cvt oil at 50k miles. I'm more wary of the head gasket issue.
can this cause the timing belt to wear sooner? I am at 50K and dealer told me to replace it during my last visit.
No
Hi! Is the2023 Acura Tlx Type S included in the list?
No. But it’s definitely something to take note of if they start adding vehicles to the list
And repair time.. 8.2 😂 no wonder nobody wants to work on cars anymore
What is Honda gonna do if your not having issues with the vehicle at this time
Nothing. Sad though as the vehicle can never be trusted any longer.
Thx u
Anything you buy today is trash
I was just telling the wife, we need to trade our 16 pilot for an older model.
Wow even if you get a tow truck to move your Honda or Toyota to a high crime area the thieves won't steal it so you can get that check from your insurance company !
Buy a old Honda or Nissan or Toyota problem solved
Honda v6 still has that "weak link" timing belt no matter the year.
@@leebuck180 I'd rather replace a timing belt every 100k then a timing chain.
@@bdo3043 If propper oil changes are done and on time there would be no need to replace the timing chain. I see Honda with timing chains on the engine at 300.000 plus original chain.
