Hi Marksalino, you'll need to export this as a publish online document I'm afraid as interactive PDFs are not that interactive. You can find the process here: helpx.adobe.com/uk/indesign/using/publish-online.html#:~:text=Open%20an%20InDesign%20document%2C%20and,title%20of%20the%20published%20output.
Did I missed something? I did not see how you make the smokes flying from the chimney? I notice the smoke enlarged gradually and fade out. Could you please show us how you made it? Thank you.
Hi, I don't thnk this was included in the video, but I cn certainly create a video on this. I used the same technique as the snow, adding the smoke shape ono an animation path, but I set the scale and opacity options so that it started very small (about 1% in size) and the opacity fades to 0% by the end of the animation. This was then set to repeat.
@@shaped-by-design thank you very much for your kind reply. I am new to ID, and have been searching for animation in the last couple weeks. So far, your demonstration for making the snow flakes is the true animation I think is the best in UA-cam. Love to see more video from you.
Hey Anna, you can export this via File> Publish Online. I have a video which covers this technique below. Hope that helps! ua-cam.com/video/EzEVXrGd2WI/v-deo.html
@@shaped-by-design HI, is there any other option other than publishing online is there any app which would display it offline. Would these animations work in Epub or PDF ?
Nicely done, I didn't know this feature was available in InDesign. If you had to choose an alternative method to create these animation effects other than InDesign, how would you do it? Would you use After Effects? Do you think it would be easier to create something like this in a different program?
Hey Nathan, thanks for commenting. Yeah the animation features are often something that people don't stumble across. Why InDesign and what alternatives would I choose? I guess it depends on what you want to achieve. If its part of a presentation then I would go for InDesign, you could work in Ae or Animate. You can import Adobe Animate content into indesign. 🙂
I followed everything until you linked the front and back together and they lined up. What button was that on top of the page you hit and how do I find it!! Thank you so much!!
Hey @billgeiger8149, would you mind pointing me to the approximate timestamp on the video just so I know which part you are referring to please? Glad to help 👍
@@billgeiger8149 Hey Bill, I think you're reffering to the Control Panel (4m 12s) where I added the fill colour, you can find the Control Panel from Window> Control.
Hi! Thank you so much for this. I was looking to create something similar. Quick question, if my intention is save the design as a gif. Is it possible? I am creating a banner with animation on InDesign but then I would need said banner as a Newsletter, for that I need it to be saved as a Gif. How do I do that?
Yes you think you still can! But it takes a few extra steps, try this link which may help ajarproductions.com/blog/2019/10/11/how-to-create-an-animated-gif-with-indesign-in5/
Unfortunately not. Although Interactive PDF sounds like something that should accommodate features like animations it doesn't I'm afraid. You would have to export as ePub Fixed Layout or Publish Online (File> Publish Online).
Thank you so much. Do you know any software that can do the animations? Such as birds flying into the trees, it dancers are jumping on the stage… I want to use it for kids book. No need to be fancy, but at least the image can turnover…thank you.
I haven't tried this yet, but I saw another tutorial where it said to export it first as flash, and then open it in a new document and export as interactive pdf and it should work then

How big is this file? I built something similar in Photoshop as an animated gif but, as a vector file, I suspect this is much smaller and would have been a better solution for my clients. Please advise.
I love animated GIFs, which still have their place (see last weeks post ua-cam.com/video/bCP7cE7lIgM/v-deo.html) but they can be a little big on file size. The InDesign technique is far easier to produce and crucially edit too. It also only needs a web browser to view it. Adobe hosts the files on it's own server but you could embed the finished file by left-clicking on the three dots - once loaded in a browser - and choose the embed option from the pop-out. In terms of file size its hard to gauge as it's exported to the web, but the entire cached web page is around 3.9 mb.
@@shaped-by-design I was specifically thinking of whether this can be embedded in an email. I did a digital email for a client but we opted for a static image in the end since the falling snow made the animated gif too large. I quickly Googled to see if these animated ID files could be embedded in emails but my first search didn't return anything.
A couple of options you could look at (links below), the first is possibly the best method for exporting CSS from InDesign, called In5. Or you could remove InDesign from the process and use a CSS animator. Hi LO, yes you can. In fact, you can animate just about anything on your pages in InDesign. Most of the artwork that is in this video started in Illustrator and I then placed it into InDesign. Thanks for watching! 😎
Hi...didn't know this was possible. When we create something in InDesign at like 1920x1080 and animate it in InDesign. Is there a way to export that as a video/mp4 file. I missed that part if you explained it. Thanks again. This was a wonderful feature to know about in InDesign.

Hey Great Things. In short...No. If you import the animated GIF into InDesign you can go to File>Publish Online and it will be honoured or export to Fixed layout ePub.
Hi Charlotta and thanks for watching. The only method I know of to turn your InDesign animation into an animated GIF is to use In5, which is a paid plugin for InDesign.
