Today Chase is taking the 2023 Indian Sport Chief out for its First RIde. This bike is a true sport cruiser, with a powerful V-Twin engine that delivers 106 horsepower and 120 lbs/ft of torque. The suspension setup is top-notch, with a KYB® inverted telescopic fork up front and dual Fox® piggyback shocks in the rear. The braking system is equally impressive, with dual Brembo® 320mm semi-floating rotors up front and a single 300mm semi-floating rotor in the rear. Let’s find out how it compares to the other sporty cruisers we’ve featured!

Due to a production hickup we are going old school and won't have camera car footage on this one guys. Hopefully you understand! It'll be back on the next First Ride though.
Just remember the camera car isn't a deal breaker, Chase.
Yep! That's why I decided to go ahead and post it like this. Channel was built on videos like this so I ain't worried about it.
I'll throw the X3 on the back of my back and be a "camera bike"...
Didnt miss it
So this or the fat bob
Just rode both sport chiefs yesterday. It felt amazing. Could imagine doing light “touring” or day trips on it. Felt very stable in a straight line yet was confidence inspiring in the turns it would lean and feel planted without feeling like the suspension was wallowing
This is the only Indian I like! It is perfect off of the showroom floor! Only change the exhaust! Good job Indian! Thank you Chase!
I have a 22 Chief Bobber Dark Horse with a Stage 1 Indian Exhaust. I put a two up Saddleman seat on it and do 300 mile rides on the regular. Great power, great style, great bike. Reliability has been amazing.
LOVE the display !! I hope they add this to the Scout Rogue
I think you nailed this motorcycle really well, especially for what type of riding it is best suited for. It is definitely not a long range touring bike. I am about 6"4", 280Lbs, with a 33 inseam. I would not look at anything smaller than a Springfield for pretty much any type of riding I might do, except maybe an ADV platform and that as a second motorcycle. I just plain don't fit on Harley's except for the Pan America. Of the domestic bikes it is Indian, otherwise I go metric. My current ride is a Victory Vision Tour and it fit perfect with no mods.
That's why I'm glad I'm only 5'10" lol, I don't envy you taller guys when it comes to bikes. At my height I feel pretty comfortable on most bikes
You can get this bike with more forward pegs I’ve seen guys that are like 6’2 say it feels great and with 10in bar riser
@@tomoates8568yea, why it’s such a hard decision for us taller gentleman. I’m 6’2 189 and don’t fit on a ton of cruiser I like and want smh I don’t want a damn bagger lol
i would like to have a scout boober in a sportier version like this, fancier brakes and a newer speedometer
The rogue
The Rogue is the version of the Scout most alike this bike. Polaris screwed up with these bikes though. This bike should have the power plus 108. And the Rogue should have the FTR 1200 motor. Otherwise, they're just styling exercises with some suspension upgrades. Indian needs to be reminded sometimes not to carbon copy everything HD does. I was hoping for more...
the 116 thunderstroke is a different beast than the scout engine. go look up vintage indians and you can see where the styling of the engine comes from
Im looking really hard into Indians at the moment. Ive always owned sport bikes and ready to make a jump into a cruiser. The Indian Super Chief limited and a Scout Bobber 20 are the two ive been looking at.
I'm doing the same. Coming from a rocket with the Bobber 20, and Sport Chief as my top choices. Did you end up going with one of those?
@@tellerjake ended up with a Springfield Blue Scout Bobber.
Any regrets yet? Considering doing the same
@@DB-ks6mp no regrets here. I love the Bobber although sometimes i do wish i had the mini apes from the twenty i was looking at. The riding position can get a bit tiresome after about 2 hours. Then again after about 2 hours im ready to get off anyway, so its not that bad.
I love my scout bobber 20. Definitely not built for long rides but it is an absolute hot rod of a bike. So fun to rip around on.
Thanks for the video.
I recently purchased a scout 101. I love my bike. Curios though, would going to the sport chief be a huge difference? Is the highway ride on a sport chief better than the 101, more stable at highway speeds, or really no diff?
Fantastic review. Chase is my go to for these types of 1st ride reviews. The problem in the cruiser world these days are brand ambassadors. It's so hard to get an honest review nowadays. Indian BA's are just focusing on all the good, while the HD BA's are just focusing on the negative. It's so hard to find an honest review in the cruiser YT ecosystem these days.
I’ll be your ambassador for honest reviews. I mean, that’s the only way I’ve ever known to do them but the extra “ambassador” role makes me feel fancy
I’ve had 5 cruisers. Currently still have a softail that I’m in the process of offloading. I’ll never ever buy another cruiser and spending over $20k on one was probably one of the worst financial decisions I’ve ever made. Cool concept. I think it looks and sounds great. Zero interest in it though.
There's more to the story? Just curious!
@@SmittyAZ Harley dealerships are a scam. Not sure about Indian because I’ve never bought one. But basically no matter how great your credit is. If you don’t have the money to buy it outright or pay it off in 36 months. Between fees, taxes, interest. Expect to pay almost double the msrp if you want affordable payments. There’s just better bikes out there for the money. You want a fast way to hate a motorcycle and feel like you don’t want to ride anymore. Pay too much for a boring bike
@@Love4boost Cool, I'm picking up my '23 fat bob next week. It'll my 1st HD in about 30+ bikes. (I have had two Victorys)
--I also have a '99 and gen3 busa, ZH2, ZX14, Grand America, KTM 1290 SAS among others, so the HD is the most expensive and slowest in my stable, but I knew what I was getting into, other than the HD BS...
@@SmittyAZ nice! Enjoy it. I rode it the first year they made it a softail. The Fat Bob and Sportster S are the two best bikes in their stable imo. Awesome collection of bikes too
I'm 62, overweight and have artificial knees. I'm perfect for a HD!
I got my 2023 Indian scout rogue It didn't come with the silver piece it was all blacked out thank goodness cause it really does the bike justice being all blacked out I did see a scout 20 that was like that the exhaust was half silver and half black
I gotta 2020 Chieftain Darkhorse, I tried the sport mode once...once. As you said it is twitchy, to twitchy for my liking. Standard mode all day . Great review
Just picked up a new 23 MT-10 Cyan Storm! Had a 2020 Ice Fluo and regret getting rid of it
We just filmed a 23 MT-10 first ride yesterday!
@@chaseontwowheels Very nice! It's an animal (of course). I like the refinements so far, including the functional vents up front.
Putting a screen like that in a classic looking dial shape was such a great idea
thank you for the sport chief review!!!!
DId the air intake impede on comfort? Like were your legs always rubbing it? Just seems it would always be in the way. im 6'1
I love the Indian engine. It's a freaking work of art❤
1k miles on my ruby smoke, very comfortable and stable ride, great handling, only complaints currently are the location of the cruise control, slow touchscreen, useless GPS, and my shoulders get sore an hour or two into riding. May invest in different bars. Went from an FTR to this, more of a cruiser guy and WOT on this thing makes me giggle every time.
what exactly makes the GPS useless?? just doesnt work too well?
@@duffymoto4632 Slow interface, slow updates, clunky. Been using Waze so long I've been spoiled for others.
What’s WOT?
@@bobbylee3567 Wide Open Throttle
You miss the ftr at all? I have a Championship edition and I’m looking into trading it in for a sport chief. Wondering if I’ll miss the power.
Hey! Love the content. Can you do a vid on the Venom Superbike??
19,000 bucks??? Are you out of your freaking mind!
I get my sport at the end of the month can't wait.
Can you please do a review on the 2023 Harley-Davidson Fat Bob!?
I went to my Harley dealership and seen the fat bob in person and it made me cringe. 😂
It's overpriced. There, reviewed.
Is it better for city and backroad riding than the rogue?
Love the bike just not the biggest fan of the windshield and headlight combo it makes it look like a button
Luv all your vids, stay honest though
Chase, as always another great review - OC
OC ... there was no specific instructions for OC, so... "OH SEE".
Hi chase I’m chad I love your videos cause you go in depth about the bikes and that laugh you have is fucking addicting lol but I’m 5’8” and 375 pounds and I’m loving the bike you’re riding in the video would that be comfortable for me? I’m just looking for something that is good for a weekend trip
Was that a new z900 at the start of the video? Please tell me your riding that one to!!!
Excellent review, Chase. Your colleague could learn a thing or 1,000 about balanced, informed opinion and useful information. His review was a travesty.
For his first time at a press launch I felt Pat did a solid job of conveying his experience. Remember I’ve been doing this over a decade. Lol.
The camera crew pov was missed
This is what Chief has to be!
Its not perfect but its come a long way. Its a nice bike. My issue is its like 18k new and thats before sales tax, before fees and insurance and registration. Vefore you spec that you want heated grips and floorboards. Once you get the critical goodies before you even decide to upgrade the seat youre in for like 22-23k or something like that. Before you throw on new tires and start pumping the lords anchient algae plankton juice into it. I dont have that kind of money right now man, but if indian makes something that kills a dr650 that is actually affordable and when i tip it over on a rock in the desert sand its plastic peices or something like it that are affordable to replace. That way i can actually have a utilitarian get shit done bike built for the apocolypse that is in a budget before i drop 25k on an indian to get it exactly how I want it and it cant go off a jump or through the swamp and desert
Watchya think of this Vs the Sportster S from Harley?
Can u do a update ride for the mt09 2023
Never had a cruiser but this one has me thinking - OC
I feel like Indian really missed the opportunity to put that liquid cooled power plant from the Challenger in this bike. If they were going for a higher performance version of a cheif, they should have gone that route.
Enjoy the content as always. OC
This or Low Rider S?
No one is gonna comment on why it didn’t start at first? That’s a big old fashioned red flag
I was thinking the same thing. It's an Indian so everyone is just gonna say it's awesome simply because it's not a Harley.
This bike could have blown up during the test ride and people would be like "It blew up because it was too powerful.....unlike Harley AMIRIGHT???"
This bike reminds me of sons of anarchy, thought it was a harley at first sight
Reduced fat beans. Killed me😂
I want this so bad
Bought this bike… immediately got CO2 sensor error and “bike running lean” lol
Yep 1st day both errors the shop guy just told me just ride it, and sure enouth two day later error check engine light is gone!
Wow this weighs like a Rocket3!
Cool bike, but I wish it had the powerplus 108 to set it apart from the HD Lowrider S.
Aren’t these Polaris victory motorcycles with new badges?
Kind of. They're like brothers.
@@gavinnorris6348 I figured since Polaris owns Indian and used to own victory before it went defunct
As far as I know the Challenger and Scout were already in development and were slated to be released under the Victory brand as victory was a more athletic offering and the Indian brand was to be more classic americana cruiser. The Thunderstroke engines are heavily based on the Victory Freedom engines internally with an indian shell around them. Bbasically Indians are the Lincolns to Victorys Fords. Same thing but more premium.
@@Savvynomad225 Polaris = Victory = Indian.
Polaris is the mother and owner
@@chevrolet69 Indian used to = Indian
Who else be watching these First Ride videos and be trying to find the Camera car?
Torn on this or super sport
The big drawback to not doing tons of miles is the gas tank.
Why? 180 miles on it enough it wanna stop and get a cold drink anyway
When deciding between Indian and my Harley I looked hard at the motor and handling. I haven’t tried this particular bike yet but I had zero confidence on their other bikes while turning. They should of put the 108 in this bike. If I’m getting an air cooled twin Harley is the way to go on that front. Now if Indian got their act together and put the 108 in something like this I’d probably give it a real hard look 😮
Nice looking
front of this bike has the challenger suspension and front wheel.
I dig it and a few other Indians and Harleys... But I live in Ohio. Land of decade old garage Queens with 5,000 miles.
For the price, I can get a couple other bikes that are basically new.
Plus I'm just not willing to pay the premium to be part of the club. Give me a Japanese power cruiser and something adventure-y instead.
Bro soon I saw 80mph to 90 i said out loud "your going to kill yourself, do you want to find out if there is a God" 😂😆😂. People looking at me like I'm crazy 🤣
How do these bikes cost so much yet have non adjustable suspension stock 😂
Never needed shock adjustment on the big Polaris bikes. I think the shocks are able to civet the range between 2 and 2-up. Now when I had a sportster? Yeah, those wimpy shocks needed the boost.
Middle weight cruiser
Thats bad what the shorter rider could be on that bike iam 5 7 tall looking bike to learn on
If you're looking for a learner bike I'd stay away from this one. Not only is it powerful but it's got a hefty price tag lol. Most people end up dropping their first bike and make other mistakes while they're learning, so better to do that on a bike that isn't as expensive
I am 5.5 and i flat foot that bike, then again i have always road big bikes.
I would rather have a busa for a heavy bike just never been into to cruisers ..to me cruisers sacrifice so much in comfort and the quality of the ride and performance for just that look 👀 it’s all about looks for the culture not performance or comfort or quality
OC 👍
No sound.....
Have ya tried turing your volume up? lol I just clicked through and it seems okay.
I hear it boss.
It's working now!
We did just upload so YT might have been being weird.
Shame it's air cooled
OC
Indian takes to long to start. Don’t want one… ever.
Save money and buy a ninja 1000 it will be better at everything to
