    Thanks, Brad, for a very informative set of vids. I'll never get inside an automatic transmission myself, but it's very helpful to watch you do it. I especially liked your explanations of assembly errors that can cause problems down the road. The more detail, the better.

    I was watching another channel and when he started putting a new 3-4 piston in a filthy transmission full of burnt fluid and grit I stopped and found yours. This is the kind of instructional video I like. Thorough and done right. I'm not quite ready to attempt a rebuild by myself yet But I will definitely watch this build series again.

    Seen several videos of transmissions dismantled and reassembled, but you have earned my full respect, as you done the whole job proper way, especially lightly lubricate all the seals and bearing and using hand tools and advising never to use power tools on assembling most critical bolts, finishing with tightening the bolts to its recommended torque settings, really impressed by your work standard ,keep it up, all the very best....thanks for the video from start to finish.

    By the way. My 3T40 transmission failed in reverse. After disassembly it I found two out of four friccion plates worn to the bare metal in the L&R clutch pack. And I also have the L&R piston deteriorated from its outher lips, "a chunk missing and a vertical cut". When you apply air it escapes from the damaged seal. I think this is the major cause as you said:" Old piston seals need to be replaced". Wise words man.

    Excellent video series! I really enjoyed watching it, and your experience really shows
    Im about to tackle the 4l60e in my 2007 gmc sierra 2wd
    What overhaul kits do you recommend?
    Last weekend after exiting the highway, i noticed that upon leaving the first set of lights at an intersection, my 1st to 2nd shift seems a bit delayed...
    Also 2nd to 3rd does what i believe is called shift flair?
    Weird thing is, after the truck sits over night, the first little bit of driving seems to be fairly normal...
    But after that, these 2 problems get worse. But only under heavy throttle. Ive been driving this week with a really light pedal, and its shifting fine...
    Not sure if maybe the forward pistons are leaking or possibly the accumulator pistons are leaking?
    Regardless, id like to order a decent kit and pull the trans apart.
    I will be going over your vids again once i get to this point!
    Thanks

    H Brad,
    I just took apart my 4L60E. I have 1999 Suburban 4x4, but now I can't decide if I should rebuild it or not. there were broken pieces of metal everywhere. The Outer Ring gear cracked, a big piece of the rear planetary gear set broke off. The broken pieces even got between the low reverse piston and the piston bore and caused deep scratches on both of them. the big question is should I rebuild this Transmission or just get a used one and rebuild that one? can I just sand out the imperfections? I would appreciate any feedback, I don’t want to waste all my work and order a master kit, plus parts for a case that might be a total loss.
    Thank you.?

    Great video Brad! Two questions though... the anti-clunk spring in the low reverse - I thought you wanted the snap ring to be installed over the flat part of the spring to hold it in place and second, when you install the pump and use a mallet to seat it down don't you worry that you will knock the plastic washer off from underneath and then have an issue with those two tabs not aligning? I know you use trans gel to hold it but I always use the pump bolts to gently move it down so I don't have to worry about the plastic washer coming loose. I don't have anywhere near your experience and expertise in rebuilding so your opinion would be greatly appreciated!

    • @bradstransmission3846
      @bradstransmission3846  5 років тому +1

      You don't need to have the snap ring over the flat of the anti clunk spring. But its ok if it is, just not over the wide part of the spring. No I never worry about the thrust washer falling off, never has happened in over thirty years of building. Thanks!!

    I plan on replacing all of the electronic parts in my valve body this week. My 4l60e has 317k miles. It's never been torn apart. Can you use just new clean transmission fluid to coat the new solenoid o-rings before inserting them in the valve body. I noticed you used assembly gel to coat the o-rings.

    Great video. Thanks! I. Want to make sure I understand where the full mark on the dipstick reads while it’s installed so I don’t make a deadly mistake. The full mark / second hole is about a tad more than 1/2” lower than the pan gasket. Is that correct?

    • @bradstransmission3846

    I just finished building my 4l60e for my 2004 GMC Yukon. Installed it, and it will not shift out of 1st gear. I checked all the new solenoids with the scanner. They all are working properly. The scanner shows the computer is commanding the shifts right. I removed the valve body. Went thru everything again. Checked the 1-2 and 3-4 accumulator pistons they we're good. I checked the seals and springs on the service also. It still will not shift out of 1st. Even if you manually shift it. I'm all out of ideas at this point. I need someone with more experience to suggest what might be wrong.

    • @bradstransmission3846

    I have so many questions. I have overhauled 10 to 15 of theses so far, and have been successful more or less. I have books and have watched other videos as well but there are still things I get hung up on. I would really enjoy building one with a professional builder just once so I could ask questions. I am a Master L1 certified technician and have been repairing cars for a little over 30 years. If you don’t mind me asking where did you go to school and how much did your schooling help when you first started building? I’m not afraid to pay for knowledge and definitely don’t mind buying tools.

    This video far surpasses anything that I've seen so far. Do you place the transmission on a dyno and check the pressures, shift points, look for leaks and all the electrical before you reinstall the transmission? It's a lot of work to put it back in the vehicle and then be disappointed.

    • @bradstransmission3846
      @bradstransmission3846  5 років тому

      No I don't. I cant afford a dyno for home use. In fact the place I work for doesn't have one either. I'm lucky I can't remember the last time I had to pull a transmission back out because it didn't work.

      Not sure what your talking about. are you sure it's first and second? Not first and third? exactly what do you mean in 1 & 2 interlace?

    Does it really matter which side the c clip is installed on the shaft. I have paint on both sides. Can you weigh in on this?

    • @bradstransmission3846
      @bradstransmission3846  6 місяців тому

      the c clip has a slight bevel at the opening. put it so the pointed end is up, this will give the next person something to grab on to when getting the clip out.

      @@bradstransmission3846 you are the master! I could not figure out why. Is that why it’s painted? What’s the significance of the yellow paint? I also saw 4 dabs of white paint on top of my planetary. Would you know?

    I saw in another video somewhere abroad they rebuilt a 4L60E as well. Is there such a thing as an upgrade kit for one and if so how much more of an extra cost would you estimate it at?

    • @bradstransmission3846
      @bradstransmission3846  7 років тому

      What kind of upgrade? there is a lot that you can do. "shift kit'' 5 pinion planets, beast shell and valves in the pump and valve body.

    Why dont you just use ATF instead of lube? Also, which gasket kit do you use? Also, which frictions and steels do you use? Thanks a bunch.

    • @bradstransmission3846

      I use ATF because it's easier and cheaper than lube. I use precision kits at work and home they come with Raybestos frictions and steels. There are a lot of friction manufactures out there, just do your homework.

    nice job but why would you put the "chatter spring" back in a stock 4x4 instead of using the approved case saver upgrade part it is a better part and is very cheap it will indeed help the life of the 4x4 unit

    That VB plate was junk too, you can totally see where the 1-2 upshift ball has been slamming into the plate. Repair the hole man!

    Hello Brad, can you recommend a video to overhaul a 3T40, I am novice DYT and want to fix this transmission, thanks in advance.

      Martin Caldera I don’t know if there any videos for a THM125 (3T40) in fact I don’t know if you can even get parts for them anymore. I haven’t built one in more then 10 years. Sorry.

      Ok sir. After seiing the ATSG 3T40 manual it seems to me: easy to work on. I am making a attack plan to perform well. I also have found the most needed parts but then searched to buy new pistons but it´s been hard to find those. Thanks dear friend.

      Pistons? they don't have molded pistons. Kit should come with new seals for all the pistons. Good luck!
