    Early angle gear sleeves weren't epoxied like on the later cars. When I changed the sleeve on my 850 AWD that came off easily too.

    Same thing happened to me when I replaced my collar sleeve in my S60R. Was expecting a battle but it literally came off by hand just like yours.

    Check out Colorado drive shafts for the prop shaft. They've been rebuilding them for years and are I think like $400 with a $100 core charge (not too sure on the core).

    \i am looking for an IRS for my 1966 Amazon wagon. It would be the best of all worlds if I could use a Volvo unit. I will not be using in as and AWD unit so I will want to get rid of the VC. What I am wondering if what gear ratios are available for the Volvo AWD rearends and do you think it would be relatively easy to remove the VC and fit a U-joint flange on the pinion shaft. Any ideas. The car will be running my approximately 200 hp ALH turbo diesel and a Toyota W-59 five speed over drive. The Amazon wagon came with a 4.10 Dana 30 and the motor will easily pull a 3.90 rearend. I am all ears on this one.

    Hey Matt, welcome back!
    Can you tell me all about your engine build? Pistons, sleeves, crank, block, head, cams, etc....
    I just picked up another T-5R (3rd one) and am putting together a twincharged build.

    Do you know of any way to rebuild or source new viscous couplers? I have seen VCs rebuild on other vehicles but don't know if it's possible on these cars. We as a community must find a solution to this problem if it's not possible.

    I’m looking at making a viscous lock system so permanently locked for racing ,👍👍

    • @SimplyVolvo
      @SimplyVolvo  5 років тому +3

      Yeah you can weld the VC to the shaft to lock it, but then the free wheel mechanism breaks. Best way is to make a shaft with the splines for the flanges and completely eliminate the VC. I'm going to use the VC until I break it as it will help absorb drive train shock on launches.

    I've been trying to find a cv boot for the rear axles for a while with no luck. I hope you can find somebody who can help you out with this if you are replacing the boots or even the entire axles.

    • @SimplyVolvo
      @SimplyVolvo  5 років тому

      Yeah seems like its all NLA. The 960/S90 IRS axles are the same. Might be able to use PN 271925 or 271926. I have plan to use different rear axles anyway, but wanted to try out the stock ones first :/ maybe there is a universal boot I can find.

    i was mindstorming the other day, was thinking about the mithsubishi evo's don't they have a angle gear of some sort, i was thinking about adapting the evo angle gear and their awd system cuz its strong, using the evo angle gear, and drive shaft. hmm

    • @SimplyVolvo
      @SimplyVolvo  5 років тому +1

      I looked into this very heavily with a friend. The evo transfer case has the same ratio as the volvo p80 rear diff. You would need to use the evo gearbox, evo transfer case, pray to to god it all clears, custom transmission adapter plate, custom transmission mounts. The gearbox also wouldn't clear the front radiator. It would be way too much work than its worth. I have a solution i will be revealing soon hopefully and talking about all of the strength and weaknesses of the volvo p80 AWD. Trying to swap in a different AWD is going to be opening a huge can of worms IMO. Not something im interested in for this build when 75% of the volvo stuff is really good and the only 25% weakness is the angle gear.

      @@SimplyVolvo yeah, i kinda looked in to this a little today too, like you said the gearbox is a little problem with fitment, but if you have a fix thats better it would be awesome. building a new engine for my v70 awd manual t5 so probly need to do something about that angle gear. will buy your ms3 pro pnp board when the engine is ready

      @@alexstromberg7696 Well if AWD ends up being a failure it will always be easy to go back to FWD. I think its gonna be the same effort to make the AWD work as to make FWD as fast. As for the AWD system being really bad, do you have any R&D on the system / experience with it or are you just regurgitating most likely false information you've read on forums / groups? Theres really only one big weakness and its obviously the angle gear.
