I played mid major D1 and was a starter both my junior and senior seasons averaging 4pts 4 rebounds in 13 minutes my senior year. I know my stats weren’t the best the but I was an elite shot blocker and did the things that didn’t show on the stat sheet like setting good screens, help defence, calling out screen etc. Our leading scorers were both guards who took most of the shots on the team no shade they were all conference players. During my senior year an agent messaged me on Facebook and arranged tryouts for a few teams in France. I ended up signing with a team in Calais for 1400 euros a month + rent + utilities etc but no car. The team played in the nm2 which is in the 4th division in France. It was a rough year. My coach/ teammates weren’t happy with my level of production and I’d often get into early foul trouble which limited my minutes like in college. I was told that the American import big man who was there before me scored more points but was lazy on defence which I understand now because he was probably being savy an trying not to pick up fouls which would limit his minutes but didn’t understand this at the time. I also hadn’t learned how to pace myself and was going all out offence and defence which means I’d get tired quicker and would ask for a sub when I was tired. Long story short I have a UK passport and have played for a few other team in the UK since that time but the most money I every made playing was €1400/month It’s like you said, supply and demand. When you have countless Americans and other imports willing play for £200 a month team will always lowball players in lower leagues because supply is high I’m now 35 and it’s been a struggle to adjust to life after basketball. The CBA is a top-tier level so they will be living lavishly! And you would expect that as many of the imports are former NBA guys!

In pro leagues in Asia, foreign players get paid *at least* $20,000 per month plus free accommodation. I don't think that's a bad deal for players who don't make it to the NBA.
Yes - but those are all very high-level leagues for players with lots of overseas experience.
This video was meant for small-college rookie and beginners.
So it's different stages of their careers.
Don't get me wrong, salaries can be amazing in some Overseas leagues and regions. Asia, I personally believe Asia has the best bang-for-buck market out there. Not as demanding as Europe but a ton of money and opportunity (sponsorships too).
It just takes to get there unless you're coming from a high-level college or resume.
You need to be really good to be paid that amount lol. Like ex nba players or at least played g-league or top level european leagues.
@@icyboy771z Just fyi, there are pro players from the Philippines, no NBA or G-League or Euro League experience who play as imports in Japan, Korea or Taiwan and they get paid $15K-$20K PER MONTH. A couple actually just renewed their contracts and get paid more than that per-month. Astonished? Google it and you'll find last names like Sotto, Edu, Ramos, Ravena, Parks, Abando, Tamayo, and a lot more. No kidding. Google it and take a look see for yourself. As I said, no NBA or G-League or Euro League experience. However, they all have experience playing in FIBA as players of the national team of the Philippines.
@@icyboy771z exactly. Completely different type of player than what I was addressing in this video. Lol
Thing is those lower leagues were guys get paid under 1k a month (i'm thinking spanish 4th division for instance) aren't really supposedly proffesional. And in order to play at a higher level you have to be really good, even above average D1 college players will have a hard time to make a living off bbll.

I was a college football player at a D2 school. Played for several indoor football teams after college. No food, 5 people to a crappy hotel room, signing a waiver for every practice and game, $200 per game... If you want to try this, get a graduate degree while doing it, like I did.
Dang. Overall - did you enjoy or regret the experience?
I would do it again. I played until I was 27 years old on several teams. I would advise any young person taking a pro sports direction that the game eventually comes to an end and they need a plan afterwards
Most definitely. Have to prepare at all times especially if you're making low-money.
NBA players can afford to spend a few years to "find themselves" afterwards. The average person? No chance.

Long story short I have a UK passport and have played for a few other team in the UK since that time but the most money I every made playing was €1400/month
It’s like you said, supply and demand. When you have countless Americans and other imports willing play for £200 a month team will always lowball players in lower leagues because supply is high

This video should have been 40 minutes long finally someone states the truth about overseas players salary! The pay is extremely low you make more working a 9 to 5 unless if you’re an ex nba player or d1 superstar outside of that majority of people get paid pennies or may not even get paid if that I remember before I went to college I had a workout for an overseas team and I seen what they were going to pay me then I decided not to do it and just play college ball instead. People think overseas players are making money when in reality most of them are broke
@@eddierosario1537 what country was your tryout in? You had a tryout for a pro team before college?
At the low-levels it is an absolute grind. That’s why I say you always need a side hustle to keep you afloat or even another full-time job.
Eventually the tables could turn if you stick with it long enough!
Yes I know most people go to college then overseas but I had a connection overseas in Germany because my brother in law new coaches in Germany while he lived there. The team was a low level team the team was called fck1 Kaiserslautern and they had me workout for the c team and then I went up to but this All during the summer before even the season started. The contract that they should me I would get was horrible but just like you stated the lower levels don’t get paid well. But I completely understand why you question the overseas thing before college but it was really rare because of the connection
@@eddierosario1537 How much did they offer you?
No, no - I'm not doubting you. I believe you! I was just curious what league/division it was at because it's very rare for players to get offered straight out of high school.
I'm assuming it was quite a low-level so that would explain the salary/offer.
It was like 200 a month it was horrible lol
Dang! My opening one was $700 but I have heard some go as low as $200 or even playing for free lol.
Good morning everyone, I'm a little older than you guys here but during my time but if you didn't produce based on their expectations...say you averaged 15 points and 7 rebounds and the expectations were 20 points and 10 rebounds, they would pull your Visa and send you home
But if you exceeded the expectations there was no rewards, and also you would always lose money on the rate of exchange, if you went out to buy food or something without a person tagging along to help you
Exactly! The market can be absolutely ruthless! Where did you play?
Nowadays, it's pretty common to have performance-bonuses put into your contracts.
For example, "for every 20-rebound game the player gets paid $500 extra."
That can really incentivize players to get after it!
How did you get into writing online? was it like blogging or for a company?

Supply and Demand. Too many grown men trying to dribble a ball for a living. It's a kid's game after all. So silly.
Get a second skillset and you’ll be good to go! But if it’s all ball-is-life then it can be risky!
How about realizing that you are just not going to be a great professional ball player and finding other employment. I know, I know, “it’s my dream”. Guess what? Reality is you’re not in the NBA. You’re playing for $200 a month overseas with almost no hope of making it big time. You’re living on scraps. Let it go man or woman. The game is over.
Oh trust me that definitely runs through your mind plenty while playing. Ultimately it's up to each person to make that decision.

Part true, part false.
Yes - a typical American high school game would likely bring in more fans than a good portion of these overseas leagues. That is true.
But it is simply not true that just because you aren't earning lots of money to begin with, you won't ever earn money. Hundreds of examples prove that wrong.
in my small european country I've seen a lot of journeyman play. In Europe the coach can kill your career. And lots of european coaches are absolute idiots. I've seen american players who were 2-3 levels above the local players get ignored by the locals during the game, because they earn more than the locals. I've seen players who become national team members and then come to the country for the first time.
