Just keep developing and progressing in your game and enjoy the process/journey. With Australian, Filipino and Chinese descent you will have plenty of options and opportunities to prove yourself as a national. The biggest hurdle is usually getting your foot in the door.
In order to get to a pro team, I need to get in a program (college, university, camps etc) that will be high enough competition to showcase my talent. The only problem is i don't know where to get this. I live in Australia and have no clue how to get to a college kind of standard level of basketball, even if it is like d3 or d2 I'm fine. If you could help that'd be cool.
@@TheSmoothViewASMR Do you have a basketball resume? Highlight film? Why not send it out to Australian colleges? Develop, get experience and then try your luck in the Australian state leagues as a national?
Hey the video was great and informative. I just have a couple questions. I’m a 6’3 combo guard going into my senior year, I’ve been told by my coach that played D2 ball that I could definitely make it D1 or D2. Thing is that i’m moving to Barcelona with my Dad right after I graduate. Where would a good starting point be for me?
Good starting point would be to get onto Eurobasket and look at all the clubs in EBA (4th division). Find their social medias, message them and tell them you are currently located in Barcelona. You will be at a huge advantage at that point since you could go for various in-person tryouts. Barcelona also has multiple teams located within the region. I break down this method in this video: ua-cam.com/video/tB1SeT1ZYLU/v-deo.html

3 роки тому+1
Where is your passport from? In general, you are only counted as a national in the country in which you have a passport. For instance, with a Canadian passport I count as a national playing in Canada. Everywhere else I am considered an import. There are some exceptions to this such as the Bosman A (European Union passport) and Cotonou (African, Caribbean passports). Then there are grey areas when you get to Asia with the 'Asian import' rule. Hope that helps.

Extremely unlikely especially if there isn't even the high school level because that tells me that even the most basic concepts are missing. It will really depend on how much you'd be willing to sacrifice to chase your dream. In extreme cases, such as yours, you would basically have to up and leave to another country and try to make a low-level league and build your experience from there.

Without knowing your skill level, nationality, background info etc. it's impossible to give an answer. I will say it is a big uphill battle for anyone who has no college experience. I have seen it done though.
I meant to say a financial investment on the player's part. The best case scenario is obviously we, as the players, don't have to spend any money to get a contract or get our careers started (combines, academies etc.) but sometimes that's not a reality for some players and they'll have to invest (i.e. spend money) on a combine to get noticed. Does that make more sense?
First of all I’m from the uk 19 and very good at basketball (not trying to brag just don’t want to make it look like I’m a casual hooper trying to make it I understand it’s incredibly hard to make it pro or even semi) I stand at 6ft on the dot with basketball shoes on and been playing since I was a child but I wanna play basketball as a career, I was thinking to join University as we have a BUCS league which is essentially our NCAA (minus everything) and the universitys that’s closest to me their men’s first team plays in division 1 semi professional basketball (NBL uk) and their 3rd or 2nd teams plays division 3. Is this enough providing I make the first or second team , get highlights and full games recorded to get me an agent and possibly play basketball overseas in say Italy or Spain semi professionally or pro? And if i were to not make it in the semi pro league and had only participated in BUCS university league would i still be able to potentially play overseas in Italy or France china or Taiwan perhaps? I know it’s not the NBA but for me playing basketball as a job is a dream career and being young I don’t wanna let that just go due to complacency. Thanks in advance.
3 місяці тому+1
I would try to push yourself to the highest level in the UK first. Yes - Bucs is a good start and it also gives you an education. Then you could see how realistic the BSL (BBL) is. Your passport would also give you an advantage to play in Ireland (in both Super and National league). You could then use that film to get into one of the markets you're mentioning - Spain (EBA), Italy (Serie C). Does that make sense?
You’re a lifesaver mate yes it makes perfect sense I’m going to an opening evening next Sunday to enlist at university. In regards to the other things you mentioned is there an age limit as I’m scared that by the end of my time at university I’ll be too old to play in a league as let’s say they don’t sign you in unless your under 22 or something? Or is everything ok as by the time I leave I’ll be around 23 years old. Also youve definitely earned a sub wish I learnt about you when I was 16 your the goat
3 місяці тому
If that's the case is there a way to continue your education online? We are thinking very far into the future. Rules change regularly so no use really in projecting 4 years into the future.
Hey bro let me reiterate, I’m not sure if there is an age limit, I’m just trying to find out if there is one, but i don’t think there is an age limit that I know of playing overseas unless I’m wrong? Sorry if I caused any confusion
3 місяці тому
There's no age limit for overseas ball. Some leagues have players as young as 16 playing in good levels. Luka was playing in third division Spain when he was like 15 and that's a solid solid level overall. Full of grown men.
Do you think a really small guard like me (5’6) can still grow taller and play pro basketball? Im 16 and im dying to make basketball into a career, but i do know i have to get better and gain more experience. But is it possible for me to play pro even if im under 6ft?
2 роки тому
How tall are your parents and grandparents at their peak (25-30 years old)? That could give you some indication as to how tall you will be when you are an adult. If you are 5'6 at 16-years old, I would assume you will keep on growing. In short, yes I've seen plenty of smaller players play pro but it will be more difficult. At that height you have to be an absolute knock-down shot and be very skilled (floaters, in-between game etc.) to counter the bigger players. My advice would be to not worry about your height or any of that stuff. You can't control that but you can control how much you're putting in to improve everyday. Focus on that and let the chips fall where they may.
Of course. Any player of any nationality can playa overseas. I'm just using overseas in this context as the same as professional/FIBA-sanctioned league. Indonesia has a nice pro league though with the IBL. Why not start there?
Yo I’m 29, 5’9, 40” vert looking to play overseas I’ve been working hard just need an opportunity, my problem is I have no college footage so what might you recommend as a starting point for someone like me. Thanks 🙏

I actually did a video on this recently: ua-cam.com/video/T53KW0DV5ds/v-deo.html In short, go get game film; semi-pro specifically. Get another passport if you are eligible for it. You can also find ways to get overseas to get right in front of clubs - getting a job there, vacationing and messaging teams, staying with relatives. You are always at a huge advantage when you are literally in front of their eyes.
@ hey thanks for replying I appreciate that, I will look at the video and maybe you touch on this topic but how do I even get a shot for a “semi pro” team, just approach or contact them and say hey I’m a good basketball player give me a chance lol, or like shooting/ workout footage. It may seem jokish but I am serious about this I just really don’t know. I am Canadian also so maybe you have some insight for me in that regard.
3 роки тому
@@ohgeezreact5209 many semi pro teams are disorganized or have low numbers and are looking for players. That means there’s lots of opportunities to be had and a low entry of barrier but with a potential good return. Find contact info of teams and coaches online. Message them and go tryout. It’s very accessible.
3 роки тому+1
@@ohgeezreact5209 Canada also has one semi-pro team at the moment ( I believe) in Vancouver. You could also travel stateside and play on one. I’ve seen many people do that for film and experience.
Definitely. That's why in my books they are the last option. You have to be specific and selective with what combine you are going to attend. And you have to know what you are trying to achieve and where your advantage is (passport, location, season schedule, potential connections etc.). Don't just start going to everything under the sun.
What if you are in America, but you are a European citizen ? How would that work
2 роки тому
Hi Lawrence. I'm not sure entirely what question you're asking - what do you mean by "how would that work?" What is "that" in this scenario? Generally speaking, Europeans will have the most success and advantage in Europe - especially considering the Bosman A/B passports that give players great mobility.
You are not alone so find comfort in that. Many players have had huge obstacles and barriers to overcome in order to become a pro. It will not be easy....

And im filipino/chinese,by the way and still hoping to reach 6’3, my max height dream:(( so hopefully i could still improve my skills with that 2-3 years training with private trainer I’ll have
Just keep developing and progressing in your game and enjoy the process/journey.
With Australian, Filipino and Chinese descent you will have plenty of options and opportunities to prove yourself as a national.
The biggest hurdle is usually getting your foot in the door.

Thanks man
Thank you!
How old are you?

Hey the video was great and informative. I just have a couple questions. I’m a 6’3 combo guard going into my senior year, I’ve been told by my coach that played D2 ball that I could definitely make it D1 or D2. Thing is that i’m moving to Barcelona with my Dad right after I graduate. Where would a good starting point be for me?
Barcelona itself has great teams look into it
Good starting point would be to get onto Eurobasket and look at all the clubs in EBA (4th division). Find their social medias, message them and tell them you are currently located in Barcelona.
You will be at a huge advantage at that point since you could go for various in-person tryouts. Barcelona also has multiple teams located within the region.
I break down this method in this video:

Let’s say I have a second passport but it’s not at the country that I want to play for does it still make me an import

I played high school and D2 college basketball. I left college to go to the military and I’ve played basketball throughout my time in the military nationally Military basketball association. I’ve been training.
I’m getting out this year after 7 years of service and back to college to get more exposure.
Do i still have a chance to play professionally overseas
How many more years of college eligibility do you have left? Also - do you have any other nationality besides USA?
I have 3 years left. And no I don’t have any other nationality but, I lived overseas for years and I can try obtaining nationalization by marrying my girlfriend, she’s Japanese, she still lives in Japan
I averaged 10ppg / 6 RPG / 1steal / 1 block in 24 mins a game on 54% fg shooting splits in a top D2 conference I had D1 offers out of highschool.. There is a solid youth program in Babenhausen. Their U16 club is playing in Oberliga.

Im playing in a adult league to get some film to send off, when should I get an agent ? Before or after this coming up season ? Also another question, a friend of the family I grew up watching played for the university of Oklahoma, went undrafted, and played overseas. Even if he doesn’t play anymore, would it still be great to have him as a reference ?
Unfortunately no agent will sign you with film from mens leagues.
You’ll have to get better film in better competitions. The ABA, TBL are good starting points for many Americans.
Does that person still have active connections overseas? Can they vouch for you?

@@pamosoik5047 try Regionalliga. Tons of teams and opportunities. Chances to move up are aplenty! And they are Bosman A friendly.
Perfect thanks a lot! Regionaliga 1 or 2? the style of play in serie c closer to Greek. this is not easier for me in theory;
@@pamosoik5047 What is your ultimate goal? Do you want to play the basketball/competition possible or make as much money as possible? Or a combination of both.
I'm a pure playmaker, I don't make mistakes easily, I pass the ball a lot, on screens I always hit the miss matches and I have a good static three-pointer and a lot of organization. I care more about playing basketball not so much about the money
What is the average height if a shooting guard
That will depend a lot on the country/region you’re in.
In general I’d say somewhere between 6-2 - 6-6 in most areas.
Higher level leagues will generally have bigger guys as well.
@ Hey im 14 im wondering is 5'11 good enough for a pg position im looking to play overseas pro.
It is still possible or there a way to play pro overseas even though i don't got got any film or resume. I never played highschool or college ball. I just alway played in gyms and parks constantly. Im 23
@ I stay in the USA. I seen a TikTok video about Mexico have 5 leagues from paying low salary from the lowest league to higher salary to LNBP. So can I just try to do a tryout from the lowest league in mexico maybe?
@@josuevaldivia5124 Was the Tik Tok video mine?
@@josuevaldivia5124 In theory you could, yes. LBP, CIBAPAC, CIBABAJ could be some of the lower-tier options.

@ yeah it was your video I almost forgot. Yeah it does seem like that's the only option in person
If i want to get into B League tryouts ( japan ) as a foreigner, do i still need the japan passport or what ?
If you're a foreigner then you it doesn't matter your passport - you will be counted as a foreigner all the same. You could be Canadian, Bolivian, American - you are a foreigner.
The lone exception to that are Southeast Asian players (Philippines, South Korea) who are able to occupy the Asian Import spot.

I have a question. If we get selected by any team overseas, do we get a VISA or should we apply for VISA separately? Im from Nepal
This will depend on what passport/citizenship you hold and what country you are going to. Some countries don't need VISAs to enter other countries.
If you look at Nepal's government website there should be some information there for you. Hope that helps.
I’m 30 and i only played in HS. Do I have a chance? I played a couple adult leagues.
Without knowing your skill level, nationality, background info etc. it's impossible to give an answer.
I will say it is a big uphill battle for anyone who has no college experience.
I have seen it done though.
I’m from Malaysia.Basketball is not really popular here.Is it possible to make in the nba?
Of course. It is possible to make it to the NBA from anywhere.
Malaysia also has its own pro league in place as well.
What do u mean through investment
I meant to say a financial investment on the player's part.
The best case scenario is obviously we, as the players, don't have to spend any money to get a contract or get our careers started (combines, academies etc.) but sometimes that's not a reality for some players and they'll have to invest (i.e. spend money) on a combine to get noticed.
Does that make more sense?
Are they some combines happening in Germany in 2023?
There are a few but I haven't studied them enough to genuinely recommend them to you.
Where are you from, how tall are you and how many years have you played pro
I'm Canadian about 6'2 and 6 years pro now.
Can indonesian play overseas?
Of course. Any player of any nationality can playa overseas.
I'm just using overseas in this context as the same as professional/FIBA-sanctioned league.
Indonesia has a nice pro league though with the IBL.
Why not start there?
@ thanks for the explanation🙏

I actually did a video on this recently:
ua-cam.com/video/T53KW0DV5ds/v-deo.html
In short, go get game film; semi-pro specifically.
@@ohgeezreact5209 Canada also has one semi-pro team at the moment ( I believe) in Vancouver.
You could also travel stateside and play on one.
I’ve seen many people do that for film and experience.
Combines are kind of expensive
Definitely.
That's why in my books they are the last option. You have to be specific and selective with what combine you are going to attend. And you have to know what you are trying to achieve and where your advantage is (passport, location, season schedule, potential connections etc.).
Don't just start going to everything under the sun.

Hi Lawrence. I'm not sure entirely what question you're asking - what do you mean by "how would that work?"
What is "that" in this scenario?
Generally speaking, Europeans will have the most success and advantage in Europe - especially considering the Bosman A/B passports that give players great mobility.
