The english empire was created by taking tea bushes from China to the british colonies in India , where they were planted and grew it there. Once this stolen commodity was established as a farmable crop on stolen land , it was then shipped back. This is where we get the phrase, "All proper tea is theft." ......ahahaha.. I kill me.
They wrote this song as a parody of grunge music. In fact, it was considered too much of a joke by the band that it almost didn't make it on the album, but they were persuaded when the record label executives reacted overly positive to it.
It wasn't really intended as a parody. Graham introduced Damon to a lot of the US bands he was currently into, ranging from Pavement to Nirvana, and Damon, initially resistant, ended up getting really into it. Ditto Alex. Result? Song 2.
They actually made the song to troll the label. They thought the label would freak out when they suggested it should be a single, but then they agreed with the band, so the prank didn't work lol
@@SpaceEmperorGenos What do you mean? They confirmed song 2 was meant as a parody of american grunge and that they never thought it would get that popular
I think the drums in the intro/verses are one of the best parts of this song. It's actually both Dave and Graham playing slightly different drum parts at the same time to get that sound when they recorded the song. So cool.

I just learned today that this is sung by the same guy who lead sings for the Gorillaz and it blew my mind, I had absolutely no idea and I've known both bands for fucking ever
Yeah, it was a big big deal at the time (Damon's second act after flaming out in the Oasis v Blur War for America) , but if you learned of both bands subsequently, I mean, Gorillaz is entirely animated and they make a point of hiding who the performers are.
I'm not great fan of huge distortion but this piece is the exception. It's the only song that I've blown speakers for. My only complaint is that it is too short.
This is the only song I've ever heard by Blur, yet I've heard it 3 times live, by 3 different bands lol. It's such a great song for everyone to sing along with, all you really need to know is "WOOHOO!".

I got a tea advert before the video how British can this get
Peppermint tea?
Hahahaha
Ana If it was an ad for a chicken shop, it would have been more British.
The english empire was created by taking tea bushes from China to the british colonies in India , where they were planted and grew it there.
Once this stolen commodity was established as a farmable crop on stolen land , it was then shipped back.
This is where we get the phrase,
"All proper tea is theft."

They wrote this song as a parody of grunge music. In fact, it was considered too much of a joke by the band that it almost didn't make it on the album, but they were persuaded when the record label executives reacted overly positive to it.
Granham said the vocals were recorded live with the band sound in the PA, and they kept the random lyrics from the early composition.
It wasn't really intended as a parody. Graham introduced Damon to a lot of the US bands he was currently into, ranging from Pavement to Nirvana, and Damon, initially resistant, ended up getting really into it. Ditto Alex. Result? Song 2.
thats so funny
They actually made the song to troll the label. They thought the label would freak out when they suggested it should be a single, but then they agreed with the band, so the prank didn't work lol
