ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE GROUPS BETWEEN BOTH SECULAR AND CHRISTIAN MUSIC!
Sweet Comfort Band first performed in 1972 in Riverside, California, and were active until 1984. The band was composed of keyboardist/lead vocalist Bryan Duncan, guitarist/vocalist Randy Thomas and brothers Kevin (bass guitar) and Rick (drums/vocals) Thomson.
With their 1977 self-titled release on Maranatha! Records, SCB hit the Jesus Music scene with a funky, jazzy, R&B and 70's rock sound. This set them apart from many of the bands in the nascent Contemporary Christian music industry who were primarily performing folk-rock and soft rock. Few bands had the musicianship displayed by this quartet. However, Maranatha! decided to quit releasing rock and roll albums and focus on children's releases, gospel and worship music. The band did not fit the new direction, so Light Records welcomed them for their sophomore release Breakin' The Ice.
The band went their separate ways in 1984 having released six albums while building a large fan base. Bryan Duncan released a number of solo projects over the next fifteen years. Randy Thomas went on to found the band Allies and co-wrote radio hit Butterfly Kisses with former Allies band member Bob Carlisle.
WOW WHAT A MESSAGE. I DON'T HEAR CHRISTIAN MUSIC LIKE THIS TODAY.
Tires of the Cookie cutter approach to Christian radio today....all aimed at a soccer mom demographic...Bands like SCB wrote about the real struggles a Christian faces in the World, and it could be a soft balad, or something that really rocked....the important thing was all were full of Scriptural truths....
I lived next door to Bryan all through high school. Was always so impressed with the band. They helped me become a better musician and better follower of God.
The outro solo is simply amazing.
How wonderful is to find a Christian rock band with this quality.
😊
I agree brother
This is from the Golden Age of Christian Rock. I wish there was more like this today.
ICHTHUS. 1994.
OUTSIDE CONCERT. SCB ROCKED THE PLACE AND THE HOLY SPIRIT MOVED ME TO GO INTO MISSIONS.
WHAT MEMORIES.LOVE THIS BAND.
Whereis that concert ichthus held is it still going on you've heard of creationfest on the east coast in mnt union pa
@@JohnJones-rw9ry Ichthus was on the campus of Asbury college in Wilmore KY. I understand it is no longer a thing. To bad. It was a Christian kind of woodstock.
This would be a staple on classic rock stations if they would cross over to Christian rock.
Wow such memories. Now this is what it really means to be Christian, a Warrior. A real warrior fighting the good fight every moment of every day. Not this feel-good-God-wants-me-happy-all-the-time watered down version we hear so much in America today. Being a Christian, a true follower of Christ, is HARD and not for wussies! Planet Earth is a war zone. Just look around. The battle is real.
For sure.....
Amen brother
That's right brother
putting on the full armor of GOD! we are to be ARMED AND READY to face the fight for CHRIST alone RULES!
Bryan Hull, I share your frustration. I live in East Tennessee, and the local gospel stations only play Southern Gospel or music that people young enough to be my children like (I'm 47, going on 48 now), but nothing from the 70's to the 90's. If I want to hear what I like, I either have to take cd's with me in my car, or wait until I get home.
never heard this song before, but instantly felt the anointing on it, this is awesome
some great christian songs came out of 1982
Awesome and this has been my favorite song by SCB. Lucky to have met Bryan Duncan in the 80s. Still have this cassette. True words about our Society today November 20th 2014. Blessings.
John Zyss Still have this vinyl. Then again, I bought it yesterday. I should still have it.
one of the best battle songs ever written !
The First Christian Rock band I saw Live. 1979@ the NEW Warehouse Ministries of Sacramento! The Concert was Outside in the Parking lot. It's location was next to Sacramento's HWY 50.
Love the bridge at 2:14 and then Bryan's screaming out the high notes!
Yup!!
This album is my favorite of theirs, why it isn't played on christian music radio is a mystery for which I do not have the answer, it touched my heart anyway.
Because no one wants to be convicted any more - they just want to feel good.
I agree Greg. I am renewed as well ! 1984, in the USN as a Hospital Corpsman at age 19. PETRA concert at the FOX theatre 1984. I heard a call that I can admit I personally,as hard as it was, choose to follow! I am ready to live or die for this grace. >This free grace!
This is the 1 song that I can't find anywhere for download. This has always been my favorite SCB song ever
Sweet Comfort Getting Mean!!! Heck Ya Randy Thomas Rail Baby Rail!!! God Bless Ya!!!
Love to Bryan and all his and my family! Growing stronger! ❤️😇
Gilmourfan11 I agree, SCB had some fantastic covers! The Hearts Of Fire album was the best, imo. It opened up (if I remember correctly) and the best part was on the back-someone should post a pic of it-where you saw a guy all wrapped up in the dragon's coils, scared for his life, with the soldiers cresting the hill... Oh, and did you ever see the Breakin' The Ice cover?
I loved this song growing up. I found it on CD on ebay and got it. They used to play this on a guys, named Charlie's show on saturday afternoons in Cincinnati on the am christian station. That is how I found them.
PRAISE GOD FOR THIS WONDERFUL GROUP!
Sou brasileiro e amo esses louvores
Eles são uma marca incrível! Eu comprei meu primeiro álbum em 1978.
the words to this song are so awesome the music is awesome
the words to this song are so awesome
I had a high powered stereo in my 75 LeMans and would sing this all the time. Had trouble with some of BD's high notes though!
+Dan Franklin
wear tighter underwear
Yep! I used to crank it up in my car stereo as well!
Excelente banda para alabar al señor JESUCRITO este tema es genial bendiciones para todos los rockeros cristianod
great theme, fabulos
While I really love this song SCB was never one of my favorite bands. However, they put out some of the best album covers of all time! This one and Hearts of Fire are particularly noteworthy.
Randy Matthews was a very under-rated guitarist in the Christian rock of the 80s. His solo at the end of this song is in my top 10. Not in the league of Keaggy or Livgren, but still very stirring.
Randy Thomas.
Yeah! Not sure why its not an iTune yet...
maybe, but I do like your perspective
he has his own band now
@KC3141 - So True KC!
ABQGecko - I think that there are very few current DJs or program managers that are aware of the classic Christian rock. They might know the 'biggies', Amy Grant, Petra, etc, but I would say that very few of them have heard of SCB.
Interesting, at the 3:25 mark they sound an awful lot like Toto.
Sweet Comfort Band is a little reminiscent of Petra
Aside from the fact that SCB was farther along in their career than Petra was at that point. 🙄 Actually, this song reminds me of the rock band Triumph.
SWB never did anything for me,but liked this song.
This was there only good cd
