  • First day of riding the Hatfield McCoy trails. We went out on a rainy afternoon that ended with a sunny evening. We caught most of what the Rockhouse Trail System has to offer - waterfall, trailhead sign, world's longest ATV Bridge, awesome lookouts, cool rock formations, and some challenging terrain.

We wore them, just not all the time. We did not get hassled at all. It was over 85 and muggy the whole week we were there, so that played a big role in our decision to take them off every once in a while. Some locals told us it wasn't strictly enforced, so that also played a role in our decision. We are from Michigan, where helmets are not required if your machine has a factory roll cage and a windshield. You have to sign a waiver to buy the trail sticker for your helmet. I would always recommend wearing a helmet when on the Hatfield McCoy Trail system. It's simply safer.

yea no doubt i agree, i have an axel helmet that i normally wear but HMT rules says DOT approved helmets so i wasn't sure if we would get hassled wearing those or not @@ATVG

Definitely more comfortable as the weather cools down. In the meantime, you can wear the helmet, and break away to an outlaw trail for a while with no helmet. Try not to let the helmet law deter you from experiencing all that the Hatfield McCoy trail systems have to offer. They are a blast.
