As a P90D Ludicrous+ owner, I am somewhat pleased that the cars look very similar, but on the other hand, the range and speed of the new Model S is going to kill my re-sale value. Fortunately, I bought used at 40% of the original price. This is going to be an issue with EVs like it is with phones, the newer ones offer substantial improvement and potentially devalue the old ones. From 1965 to 2010 a fast car was a fast car (incremental improvement at least) and while fuel economy definitely improved, range was never an issue. Now even ICE cars are so much faster than just 10 years ago, that a fast car from 2010 is no longer that fast. I mean 400 hp was a lot from 1965 to 2010, now there are dozens of cars with 600hp, 700hp, and now 1000+ hp. That is insanity! But I do think we are reaching the end of the power wars. Traction will be a factor. The Rimac has 2000hp and is not any faster to 60mph. Anyway, my P90D does 0-60 in 2.6 seconds and that is already physically discomforting. In real life driving, 0-60 in 4 seconds is as fast as I need to go. I only launch my P90D when showing off to new people who have never experienced it.
Also have a P90D. We should take solace that our cars can keep up with super cars or even beat them. You’re right about everything. Instead of resale, I’ll probably do some long range aftermarket battery swap in 10 years or so for some crazy range. Heard some company is getting 700+ range in retrofitted Model S’. Our cars as fast enough anyway.
Loads of areas . Of weight saving areas . 1, no open and close vents at both sides of front . 2, no extra trim ducting to direct the air into rads sides of car . 3, removal of separate direction let lenses / fog lights 4, weight saving of frunk tub depth 5, weight saving of lumber button / motor in seats 6, interior lot lighter 7, infotainment systems a lot lighter 8, battery pack lot lighter 9, less battery’s in pack 10, rear suspension weight saving . Extra weight added ? From motor Extra weight rear motors .. Extra weight all wheels . This is from my quick overview of seeing the car on the videos I am probably totally wrong but it’s my thoughts be intrested to hear your ..
There is a smaller 12 volt battery, the thermal management system is totally different with some components eliminated. The motors are smaller and more compact and the battery pack is smaller (100kw vs 104kw)
They made a maniacal job in lowering the weight. Every component is optimized. For example the strut in between the front suspensions upper mountings, is the compressed air reservoir for the pneumatic suspensions
The thing is the 765LT would lose 0-100 because it is rear wheel drive. It would come at 200-250 kph and at topspeed it would be a massive difference. The SF90 is faster from 0-100 than the 765LT, after that the 765LT catches it. The Rimac would destroy it from the beginning I think

It's the Model 3 Performance that gives up in the 90-100 MPH range, *not* the Model S series vehicles. Everyone has a tendency to think that if a thing is true for one model Tesla, it's true for *all* model Teslas. Time to remember a simple concept: Tesla is the *make* and the *models* vary a lot.

Moral of the story, I MUST buy a Plaid :) I would love to see the Taycan Turbo S vs Plaid. Even though the outcome is obvious, I'm not sure most people are aware of it and how fast this monster really is. Regarding the weight, I think it is a lot of small places like fluids for cooling since there is a lot more efficient cooler now and maybe the battery compartment that is lighter but stiffer and have made it a structural component so they can skip some beams underneath the car. Would love to see both versions from underneath.
It’s just past half track in the quarter! So much faster! My car barely runs the 1/8th, when the plaid runs the quarter! Like you said the p85 isn’t slow....
Sandy is getting a plaid so I'm sure we will know by year end. Also are you planning to get the lightest rims possible? I doubt more rubber would make it any quicker but reducing unsprung weight might. Would be cool to see.
I think the reduced weight is part that the rear seems to be casting, the motors are carbon fiber composed and a little bit the battery pack with slightly less kwh
I think they got some of the weight savings from part consolidation. I think they used more single parts instead of fastening a bunch together. Also should help with better tolerances.

If you look at munro and associates channel about the Model 3 he shows how over different iterations of that model they have consolidated certain panels and constructions from say 10 different welded pieces to 1 cast part. This probably has happened in the new model too so my guess is either more components are aluminum and/or single part construction instead of say 10 pieces. This also falls in line with what musk has said about simplicity. Ie. if it doesn't have to be there, get rid of it. Simplifying the builds of these cars by consolidating part counts also increases tac time on the assembly line and reduces BOM costs so i'd imagine this is happening constantly with part and sub assemblies being amalgamated into larger pieces.

I have the Raven in White with the same wheels as the one you raced and it’s the fastest thing I’ve ever driven, the acceleration is brutal, so consider my mind beyond blown! Oh yeah 765lt & Taycan against your Plaid.
Great video, as usual Brooks. The speed of the Plaid is what allows me to tolerate some incredibly bad body panel fit on both sides and passenger side door gap (as well as creaks and rattles) without losing my mind in my 2022.
Holy cow, how is it that much faster than an already silly quick car. That’s insane.
Tesla build a wagon version please, and no yoke steering. Happy days
Don’t think anything is gonna beat the Tesla at this point…man that last jump! I thought the raven might hang, but it still no competition!
Would love to see it on the Dyno
Can’t get my head around how much faster the Plaid is. Outrageous performance.
I want to see plaid vs:
1⁰ Porsche Taycan Turbo S
2⁰ Porsche 992 911 Turbo S
3⁰ McLaren 765 LT
4⁰ Porsche 918 spyder
5⁰ Ferrari SF90
6⁰ Bugatti Veyron
7⁰ Bugatti Chiron
8⁰ Dodge Challenger ScatPack
Heck yes! Like so Brooks can see this^^^^
*Dodge Challenger Dragpack
Add Rimac Nevera to that list and it’s perfect.
@@burgerman101 When it comes out that is.
@@migueljardim8177 there's a black nevera traveling the world currently. Brooks knows about it since he's liked the pics on instagram. When it comes to America it will be one of Brooks only chances to race it because it will be difficult to convince customers of the final version to lend him one
PLAID is simply the best car and everything else is playing for 2nd place.
Thats a loaded statement.... You would have to define best a very special way. Its the best stock drag racer under 150k? Yeah possibly.
Loads of areas . Of weight saving areas .
1, no open and close vents at both sides of front .
2, no extra trim ducting to direct the air into rads sides of car .
3, removal of separate direction let lenses / fog lights
4, weight saving of frunk tub depth
5, weight saving of lumber button / motor in seats
6, interior lot lighter
7, infotainment systems a lot lighter
8, battery pack lot lighter
9, less battery’s in pack
10, rear suspension weight saving
. Extra weight added ? From motor
Extra weight rear motors ..
Extra weight all wheels .
This is from my quick overview of seeing the car on the videos I am probably totally wrong but it’s my thoughts be intrested to hear your ..
Great Ch let’s get Brooks to 500k ! 🔥🔥💙
There is a smaller 12 volt battery, the thermal management system is totally different with some components eliminated. The motors are smaller and more compact and the battery pack is smaller (100kw vs 104kw)
Would love to see a Rimac vs plaid
Wouldn’t be a race, the Rimac would absolutely walk it! But it is also a 2 million dollar car
@Aryan A wouldn't be that bad 😂😂 The plaid would walk a kitty cat too I think
@@NicolasEsparza45 its not a mass produced car and its actually made by a startup so the price is reasonable tbh.
@Aryan A the jesko is made for the highest top speeds possible, tesla has zero chance.
@@alanmay7929 Oh absolutely the price is justified! And not really a start up because they now own Bugatti with Porsche I believe
They made a maniacal job in lowering the weight. Every component is optimized. For example the strut in between the front suspensions upper mountings, is the compressed air reservoir for the pneumatic suspensions
765 LT vs Tesla First
Then sf90 or rimac vs Tesla
The thing is the 765LT would lose 0-100 because it is rear wheel drive. It would come at 200-250 kph and at topspeed it would be a massive difference. The SF90 is faster from 0-100 than the 765LT, after that the 765LT catches it. The Rimac would destroy it from the beginning I think
@@ventilator2946 I know already
Tesla will lose on roll against 765LT
Rimac will beat pretty much anything to be true
I am interested in watching 765LT vs Plaid Roll race
I think from roll Tesla is faster than sf90
On a drag strip prepped surface McLaren 765LT already beats Sf90
9.3 vs 9.5
I noticed that the Raven only had 90 miles of range left on the battery during the rolling race. Doesn’t power drop off significantly with that little juice left in the battery? It would be interesting to see if the raven did any better with a near full battery pack.
Plaid vs Taycan Turbo S
Why? Just as embarrassing as this race.
@@christophermorales1509
Because you won't see it anywhere else, that's why.
@@drifter1234100 Ok, that reason I can get with although it's going to get mauled like the Raven.
@@ChosenMJ Precisely why I want to see it
Blurring at 8:15 not really working…😂😂😂
And I answer your question at the end with “YES” vs. Tesla.
Fairly identical 0-60s but the P100D just gives up after 100mph whereas the Plaid pulls even harder that’s the difference between the 2
uh no...
His plaid hit 2.16s without rollout .....and it's not 100mph when the raven loses steam it's pretty much over before 40mph
Awsome video, Its a Bittersweet feeling to see how slow my car is compared to the Plaid... Even though my car feels so fast...
7:36 Gave him the hit then … “Welcome to Gapplebees!” … “Monica Nooooooo!!!😣”…..
Yes, we want to see them all!
Man, if it does that to a Raven, my P85 might as well be going the other direction!
I drove a 2013 P85 before. That thing was no slouch, but yeah, doesn’t even compare to the Plaid.
Would be cool to see.
carbon fiber on motors could help on weight
I think the reduced weight is part that the rear seems to be casting, the motors are carbon fiber composed and a little bit the battery pack with slightly less kwh
Tesla vs rimac
I think they got some of the weight savings from part consolidation. I think they used more single parts instead of fastening a bunch together. Also should help with better tolerances.
Rimac vs Tesla??? You said😁
That Needs to Happen!
P100D owner here and my jaw dropped to the floor watching this PLAID destroy the older version... Completely different level - wow
I have a P90D and our cars are laughably slow compared to the Plaid. We would literally disappear in the Plaids rear view mirror. 😂
Im done hating on Tesla it’s truly impressive how fast they are lmfaoo
Quick not fast.
@@alanmay7929 i mean the s plaid reaches 200 if that’s not fast thennn idk what to say
@@alanmay7929 now its fast too
@@Blueovalforlife the tesla does not reach 200mph and it also has not been tested or showed on the net, we want proof/videos not just crap talking lol.... go watch autotopnl videos and what's called fast cars.
@@alanmay7929 buddy, if a Tesla can reach 150 mph in a quarter mile what makes you call that slow since when was a low 9 second car slow make it make sense
remac vs telsla please
Wow that’s impressive 👍. sorry for everyone else with the previous model lol ... what would the best race ever is Lucid tri-motor vs Tesla tri-motor ... this is the only two car within the same class from the performance and price ... anything else is pointless
Big difference is the plaid is in production and the other isn’t.
@@bdtang very true, still that’s just a few months away ... I got the opportunity for a ride along and it was insane and that was just with Lucid dual motor trim 1,080hp.. the tri-motor Lucid numbers are not even out yet .. so it’s more like the dual motor Lucid vs Tri-motor Tesla .. both making around the same HP .. the tri-motor Lucid will be well above what Tesla tri-motor has now, but in a few months I’ll like to see the Lucid dual motor vs Tesla tri-motor that should be the best match up.
I'd really like to see this against a Model S 40 from 2013. Would be cool to see just how big a gap there would be!
After about 3/4 seconds you literally wouldn’t be able to see the 2013 model anymore. Would disappear 😂
*WOW! The difference in speed is mind-blowing!!*
There should be an app that sync’s the racers phones and give a race tree or horn signals to even response times. The person who is honking the horn seems to have an advantage in timing.
That's a good idea. I'm an app developer soooo...thanks😁.
Start with The Porsche Taycan
Great deep dive. Enjoy your new ride.
Taycan turbo s vs Tesla please!!!
futile ...no chance
Taycan Turbo S will barely beat the LR.
@@ChosenMJ barely? The taycan does 10.2 and the Lr does 10.8 so I'm not sure what you mean barely. But yes the 9.2 of the plaid will blow it out of the water
@@jacybongo2589 True. The traps are nearly identical. In a roll race, its a dead heat given the traps speeds.
@@ChosenMJ yeah in way, I do not know how in the world tesla managed to make there base model almost as fast as the taycan.I'd be lying if I said that wasn't impressive.
Simplifying the builds of these cars by consolidating part counts also increases tac time on the assembly line and reduces BOM costs so i'd imagine this is happening constantly with part and sub assemblies being amalgamated into larger pieces.
damn dude thats as huge difference madness
taycan vs tesla
@@xxDeath99Starxx not even close
@@xxDeath99Starxx it will literally be the same as this video
Weight savings is from the new battery pact. Also the 3 motors are lighter than the two motors in the Raven.
Being from Croatia, I would love to see Tesla S Plaid vs Rimac Nevera!
You want to compare a $130,000 sedan car with a $2,500,000 hypercar ? Really ?
To not be so ridiculous, ask instead for a comparison with a 2-seater of the same price range :
Bugatti Bolide, Lotus Evija, Aspark Owl, SSC Tuatara, Hennessey Venom F5, Koenigsegg Jesko ...
@@alexz8373 it’s no longer a comparison of price, it’s a comparison of performance. If you watch the channel I think you’d know that. Besides, it’s more fun to watch a 130k car possibly shit on a 2.5mil hyper car :)
@@alexz8373 jeez typical fanboy.. you wouldn't say that if the Tesla wins.
@@siic I know, trolls hate facts :
Aspark Owl is faster on 0-60mph.
Lotus Evija is faster on 200-300 km/h.
Bugatti Bolide is much faster on 0-300 km/h.
SSC has much higher top speed.
But you are free to reassure yourself when faced with a 20x cheaper sedan ;)
The speedometer inside the raven looked way slower than it should be though. Low battery?
Please just get Plaid vs Taycan Turbo S over Brooks😂
Nah.
Let the Porsche fanboys play in their last moments.
Why? lol The Raven can beat that.... The Plaid will destroy it! We want that Rimac vs Plaid.
@@sheepytimeb58 the raven was never able to beat the taycan. It doesn't matter whether you look at dragtimes, carwow or top gear, the raven always lost. But yeah it will basically look the same as this race since it not that much faster. The plaid is just in a completely different level .
@@sheepytimeb58 yeah we all want that (rimac vs tesla plaid) ,there's a black one traveling the world hopefully brooks gets to race it when it makes it to America

What do you think of the yoke steering wheel?
My 1500hp turbo Chevy SS Vs Plaid. Lol I'm still gonna lose lol
A 1500whp Huracan from 40-140 fell behind almost two cars on the hit but reeled in the Plaid around 140 or so.
@@ChosenMJ yeh I figured it will fall behind then catch up at higher speeds.
@@ChosenMJ That's because plaid is currently software limited to 156 when the update comes for the full 200 mph its game over.
@@ToniEzero Yeah I'm aware of that but that ain't what happened so its irrelevant at this point. And its limited to 163mph.
did not expect such a difference, i mean the Raven is no joke, so, wow that thing is literally insane.
I think the plaid was lighter because the battery was charged less than the raven hehe
it's not just the ~350hp more in the plaid, it's that it sustains that power better whereas the old car's power falls off a cliff as your go faster
One car had a throttle.
The other had Warp Factor 9.95
🤣🤣
we visited there last Oct. & it was awesome.. i've ordered the tri motor fsd ct & i can't wait for it to get here!! I may buy the S or the Y in the meantime..i got lots of solar & back up battery system as well. i love spaceX
