Jimmy Kimmel’s Tribute to Norman Lear
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- Jimmy remembers the incredible television giant Norman Lear who passed away last night at 101 years old. One of the many sweet things about Norman was that he never said goodbye. He’d say “to be continued” and “over and next.” And so that’s how we’ll leave it.

He lived to 101.... Laughter truly is the best medicine. RIP Norm.
In the world of comedy they either live very long lives George Burns or they’re gone too soon John Candy etc
my Mom worked with Norman for over 50 years and he was the best of the best. A legend in show business, wicked smart, kind, sharp and not afraid to take chances. he has a legacy of brilliance that will be remembered forever. I’ve never known any part of my life where Norman wasn’t in some way always there. My mom cared deeply for him and their work together she cherished. We will never say goodbye Norman, but instead , to be continued! Enjoy your time visiting with all the greats who beat you there! Forever in our hearts . you will be remembered as a true inspiration, professional, and dear friend to so many! sending his family my deepest condolences and love during this difficult transition.. 🙏🩵
That was very sweet.🕊❤️🖖
I'm sorry for your personal loss as the rest of us celebrate his great accomplishments in life! RIP to this great man as he joins the cast of others we have lost! ❤💔❤
Jimmy, such a heartfelt, thoughtful and wonderful tribute to Norman Lear. You knew and worked with him recently, and expressed it perfectly. You provided recognition of his work, the reciprocal humor you had with him and beautiful words about this great man.
An icon, a legend, a one-of-a-kind man. We will miss you, Norman Lear. Thank you for all you brought us and left for us to enjoy.
A beautiful tribute. Norman Lear was a force in the industry and will be missed
He was also a well decorated WWII veteran. His service before Hollywood is impressive on it's own.
52 combat missions in a B-17. Thank you for your service, TSgt Lear.
This had me in tears. I'm 66 and tv and wolves raised me. You touched me so Deep reading your last years card. It made me cry. You're a good person and no matter what fame might do to you, I can tell you know how to love deeply, as I still cry . I'm going to remember his 'goodbye'.
The puppet on McCarty's lap: Priceless!
How nice, Jimmy!
Rest in peace, Mr. Lear.
Great effing tribute.
A brilliant human.
He will be missed.
Although Norman was 101, which is a pretty old age, it's still very sad to hear that he passed away! I was saying one time this year, " Norman Lear would live until he's at least 150". Unfortunately nobody lives forever, but he had a long happy and successful life! Rest in peace Me. Lear! You will be deeply missed!!
Good job, Jimmy. Incredibly sweet and sincere, and you almost didn't come up. 🖤🖤🥺🥺🖤🖤
We love you always Norman 💗🧸
Mr. Lear was a true trailblazer in the world of broadcast television and created shows that were the backdrops of many of our lives. May he rest eternally.🙏🏽💯
A legend! Thank you, Norman! The Jeffersons is one of my all-time favorite shows (amongst many of your other shows that were before my time, yet still so timely, fortunately and unfortunately)! Thank you for seeing and showing US, just being US, in the funniest, liveliest, most authentic ways, possible! Rest well, sir. 🙏🏽❤
As long as we remember him he will never be gone May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing to those who knew personally knew him Thanks for the memories Norman To be continued
Aside from all his many accomplishments and achievements in entertainment and activism, I think the best tribute I can offer is to simply call him a mensch. Truly one of a kind.
23 years old and I love All in the Family and Sanford and Son. Norman was a true legend that cannot be replaced. We probably wouldn’t have our favorite 90s and 00s shows without him. They say the good die young, and 101 is too young this time. Rest easy Norman. Thanks for all the laughs and memories.
Time passes too fast ! Clearly remember when all in the family was big deal.
RIP Mr.Lear you will never b forgotten ❤️
Still watch it on YT
The G.O.A.T. of truth telling thru stick-to-the-brain-AND HEART comedy. Damn, what a gifted, moral giant. Thank you, Mr Lear.
Thank you for giving Norman Lear flowers while he was still alive. Watching TV was a big part of growing up for so many reasons, so a Norman Lear TV show was a big part of growing up. Families going through the good bad and ugly, with crying and plenty of laughter, and somehow doing it again in another 30 minute show. He tackled controversial topics cheerfully and was very ahead of his time in the 70s and 80s. All his TV and movies were a gift and so was he, Norman Lear will be dearly missed.
I grew up either Norman’s shows
As a kid I watched almost everything he worked on or starred in. RIP b”h ling life to the family that remain.
A beautiful tribute to a TV legend. RIP Norman Lear.
Thank you for sharing your artistry, creativity, bravery, and teaching us about being human. Prayers and condolences to the Norman Lear family. Rest in Peace. 🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾
Jimmy has done this a couple.of times where he will announce that someone has died and he does it with grace and emotion. Good on you to be honest with your feelings and able to show them like you did with Mr. lear. RIP.
Over and next Norman”F”, Lear … Thank you for the laughter and memories.
Thanks For The Greatest Tv Shows,Mr.Norman Lear,R.I.P😢
One of the Greatest TV Legends to exist, we own this man a huge debt of gratitude, the landscape he moved is enormous......!!!!
WWII hero left college to join army. Technical sergeant trained as a radio operator and a gunner for a B17, flew 52 missions across Europe with the 463rd heavy bombardment of 15th air force out of Foggia Italy
That was a moving tribute. Thank you Jimmy.
RIP to a legend.
Rest easy, Norman Lear!
Some of the BEST shows from childhood! Lovely tribute, Jimmy.
Really cool for Jimmy to do that right before the show. I knew nothing about that guy tbh, but Jimmy's warmth and sincerity had me a little teary-eyed like i knew the guy for years.
Loved all his stuff... RIP Norman 😢
Norman lear always entertain
Another sad day.. life would be unrecognizable for most of us without this guy.
I didn't know of him too much but I knew of his work. I mean this man's legacy proceeds him. He seems like such a quiet storm but a humorous and engaging one at that. And 101 years on this planet, I mean my God, some people don't live long enough to tell the tale but he did. Rest in peace, Norman, and thank you so much for the incredible impact you've made on the industry and on people's lives.
Dude was awesome!!! Mary Hartman,Mary Hartman was genius in it's stupidness. I loved All In the Family like no other tv show, again, genius. 🕊💖🖖
As long as his wonderful shows are on in syndication-I will always remember Norman Lear.
We miss you Norman Lear
If I ever get back to LA, I will give an eye tooth to see a Jimmy Kimmel show. Not just because he’s funny, but because he is who he is.

Lear entertained us
Well done! ❤ Norman Lear changed our world for the better. Incredible legacy, and a man worthy all the love.
I am who I am today, in large part, to Norman Lear who shaped my childhood and how I perceived life through the endless hours of television I enjoyed with my family.
Thank you, Sir, please Rest Eternally in Peace. 🙏💔😔
101 yrs WOW. He was bless. He made all those comedy shows. I still watch them now. A legacy that we can remember. My condolences to his family. Bless you all and... Mr. Norman Lear, R.I.P. 12/7/23.

So sorry Jimmy. Norman was THE tv genius of his generation and a mountain to look up to. God rest his soul and bless your heart Jimmy. Much love and prayers ❤❤❤
Truly, made shows that were exceptional in content. I doubt if any of them would make it to the airwaves today.
You're a good man Jimmy. Norman was and always will be a G. So lucky we got to share the globe with him for as long as we did! What a life.

What an amazing man
He was an iconic tonic, who brought life to and enhanced reality t.v. in a wonderfully, humorous, artistic manner.
Hats off to a brilliant visionary
A lovely tribute, Mr. Kimmel. Than you.
RIP 🙏
Live in front of the studio audience! Loved the revivals of the remakes...
May not be the same, but it was just amazing!
I loved and respected him so much!! What a talented impactful human being ❤
Well eulogized, brother. He will be missed! He could be partially credited with raising me. Thx, Norm. PEACE 💜
He sat two rows in front of me @ Springsteen concert @ Meadowlands in 1985, that iconic hat was what gave him away.❤️
I can't say if he lived a long life, but he sure lived a fulfilled one. Rest In Sweet Peace, Norman Lear!! 🌹
A wonderful tribute to a great man. You touched on his contributions to entertainment but you missed the fact that he was first a war hero as a gunner on B-17s during WWII. Men are made like him anymore and he shall be missed 😢
his shows made me laugh in dark times made me smile always he showed us the diversity in the world, the judgment others made towards other races such a sweet tribute to an outstanding man may he rest in peace making the angels laugh above
Amazing tribute to a man I had never heard of. I felt his impact from your speech alone. "Until the next time."
Still drinking baby bottles that's why.
@@m42037 huh?
Why the fake profile name and no picture? Trolling easier with a fake account?
Norman outlived a lot of his characters & actors who portrayed those characters. Respect.
No he didn't, some of the cast's on his shows are well alive
Nice job Jimmy and thank you for sharing. ❤❤❤
Beautiful tribute
RIP Norman Lear 💔😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔😭💔 🙏 😔
Another member of the "Greatest Generation" has left us. See you later, Norman.
Great tribute, Mr. Kimmel.
To be continued…
I loved Norman Lear. RIP good man
FN sad 😢 RIP
Thank you Jimmy. Norman Lear was a great man as far as I knew through his shows and interviews. He warmed my heart. ♥️
Jimmy was the first person I thought about when I heard on the radio that Norman Lear passed away :/ we know how much he meant to him!
Norman Lear. Your shows are incredible. The BEST. God 🙏 Bless you and yours
To be continued over and next😭
I thought of Jimmy immediately when I heard that Norman Lear had died.
I understand Mr Lear wanted to remake a controversial episode of Maude. I hope Jimmy will do that in memory of Me. Lear.
Who'd play Maude?
@@NJGuy1973 Good question. Allison Janney? Jean Smart?
My family watched Mr. Lears shows. That was a sweet tribute from Jimmy Kimmel. He was a TV giant, an Emmy winning producer, and a man with a heart as big as Hollywood. Almost everyone in showbiz knew what kind of person he was and he loved to make people laugh both on and off stage and screen. He will be deeply missed. RIP Norman Lear. Thank You Jimmy Kimmel
God bless Norman Lear
Jimmy is such a mensch.❤
I dare say almost all of the younger generation doesn't know who he was. They are so engrossed in their own world, the world that was created for them by people like Mr. Lear and those of us who actually work. They stand on the shoulders of people like Lear who opened doors and talked about off limits topics like race, sexuality. They picked Taylor Swift as person of the year? She has done nothing for humanity in general. She's just a pop icon, who will be replaced by another in 10 years or so, just like Madonna was in younger years.
It's those who actually contribute to others that I have respect for, like Norman Lear. RIP
I've never heard Taylor Swift, but I can easily say you're wrong. Swift has mobilized her fanbase and pushed thousands and thousands of young people to register to vote. That's not nothin'. Madonna only cared about herself. A couple Rock the Vote commercials doesn't even remotely compare to what Swift has done to spark civic engagement.
@@BillkwandoWho gaf about Swift, Norman Lear created the greatest sitcoms to show on television! These Gen Zs and many millennials don't even know him or at least given his old school sitcoms a look at like "Sanford & Son or " All in the Family" I was a child when they were on and they're still funny today as they were 40-50 year's ago, the young generation is close minded and missing out, the guy's right
@@m42037 Nah dude is just "get off my lawn"-ing about something completely unrelated. It's not like Time knew Lear was going to die, plus it's the person of the year....THIS year. Pretty sure Lear wasn't producing much at 100 years old.
I don't throw fits that kids don't know who Gene Roddenberry is, though he inspired Whoopi to become what she is, through his vision of a multi-ethnic bridge crew, or the fact that Star Trek featured the first interracial kiss on American TV. They have a hard enough time teaching kids basically decency these days, especially in light of the former president they had as a role model. We can't expect teachers to be teaching television history too. Historic pop culture is always more unknown to each succeeding generation of kids. That's life. Who's talking about Citizen Kane over the water cooler these days?
@@Billkwando My son is 22 and I can guarantee you he knows who Gene Roddenberry was he loves Star Trek. Just because Norman wasn't producing shows at 100 doesn't erase all them great shows he did, it's a shame so many young generation as I said won't watch them and see how great they were compared to the bland rubbish on today, except Frasier.
As soon as I heard he passed, the first person I thought of was Jimmy.
He created some wonderful.....decent........clean ... family based..... Morally based family sitcoms! I love "all in the family". Jefferson's.... Good times.....facts of life "! Very good clean shows! And the actors in them were fantastic!! Not like today!
Thanks, Jimmy. ❤
I don't believe anyone in television even movies changed or impacted society more than this man. He brought reality, of poverty, racism, bigotry, hate,. And more. Those things sound bad till you realize it was his genius that made people understand the bad things. And how to make them.good. How to understand all the bad was wrong. And love was what was right. And he did it all by making us laugh, cry,and be entertained at the same time. No one in show buisness broke down more barriers with great entertainment than Norman lear! He took an historic time in television and did what no one could do..He changed the world. And how we all look at it. How we could make it better! So thank you. For the laughter, tears, enjoyment, opening the eyes of hundreds of millions to right and wrong. And making the world a better place. You left it better than you found it. Thank you!!!👍😇🤣😥🫡💓
R.I.P.😪💖
I never heard his name. But watched all thise shows growing up loved them
R.I.P To The Great Norman Lear,You Will Be Missed 😢, Always
Legends never die. But that statement's a lie. We lost one, and that is Mr. Lear. He was 101. Being born in 1922, he was the legend. You will be missed. 😢😢😢
He was the best Sitcom Producer in all of America. RIP
R.I.P Norman Lear, 1922-2023.
I bless him and pray that God can stand his laughter with Norman at his side.
I would love to see his comedy programs that I used to watch as a child. Every one of his comedy shows were without prejudice and just made everybody feel good and they would go to work the next day and ask their fellow workers. Hey, did you watch so-and-so let’s bring that comedy back?
I love that man for making us laugh and smile, and think about all the controversy that went on, but without friction . Is there a chance that we can get back to that?
THATS GOOD OF HOW YOU HONORED HIM.
Correction: American screenwriter and TV series creator, Eric Monte (born Kenneth Williams; Dec. 25, 1943) depicting 1970s culture of people of color wrote and created Good Times (with actor and screenwriter Mike Evans), The Jeffersons as a writer, What's Happening based on the movie Cooley High, as well as the spin-off series, What's Happening Now.
Eric Monte also pitched The Jeffersons AND Sanford and Son to Norman Lear. Mr. Monte also suggested Lear cast Red Fox as the main character Fred Sanford. Norman Lear and Bud Yorkins had the means to bring Eric Monte’s and Mike Evans creative visions to television.
Norman F _ _ kin Lear perfectly describe Lear an Bud Yorkin for stealing and taking credit for the creative works of others. Mr. Kimmel, please give credit wherever credit is due. Example: Norman Lear, along with Eric Monte, Mike Evans,, and other creative writers and producers brought you Sandford and Son, Good Times, What’s Happening, and All In The Family, a remake of a British television program on the air six years before Archie Bunker was created for American television.
actually kimmel gave a shout out to eric monte and mike evans.
Absolutely lovely man and lovely tribute! its just a shame we do Norman a disservice by censoring :( We dishonour him by doing so.
