Esther Rolle put her foot down on having a husband on the show who loved her. Lear had the idea that there were no fathers in “project” homes. He obviously didn’t do research or just didn’t want to know the truth that there were a lot of these homes with fathers. I grew up in the projects and saw these fathers work hard to get their families out. In fact in real life as hard as James worked he would have been had his family out of there.

That was a sad story about Eric Monte. What's good was Mr. Monte proved his mother wrong by being a successful writer at the time. He also created the concept for the Jefferson's and Good Times. But Lear pretty much stole Monte's concept and got all the credit for the show's success. But keep in mind that Mr. Monte was a drop out, and he didn't know how cutthroat Hollywood was at the time. So I'm not going to totally blame Monte. But Norman Lear knew of Monte's innocence about the industry and took advantage of him. I'm glad that Mr. Monte got off drugs and he's living well. Plus he didn't appear to be bitter by what happened to him. I wish Mr. Monte the best. I'll always give Norman Lear the side eye.

The idea that Reeves was the basis for the Lone Ranger was based on a guy that wrote a biography about Reeves and needed a hook to sell the book. If I look at it honestly....The Lone Ranger was just "hey, lets do a derivative of Zorro (which was wildly popular at the time) and set in the Old West for the radio.....The Lone Ranger" Bass Reeves lived a really cool life and is worthy of being remembered and is legend for his adventures and exploits. Thank you for addressing Norman Lear's thievry and Eric Monte's under-credited genius. I've been on other sights where folks blindly thank Lear for THE JEFFERESONS, GOODTIMES & SANFORD & SON without knowing the full story or who Monte is. To your question I'll say Monte was at fault as a new inexperienced writer. But Lear was mostly at fault for repeatedly taking advantage of Monte's lack of understanding, resources and connections.

Norman Lear took advantage of Eric Monte's naivete. He was a young high school dropout who didn't much about Hollywood. He just wanted to write. I wish he had someone to help navigate the industry. He should have never pitch anything to Norman before he got his ideas copyrighted.

Norman Lear stole from his “own” and whomever else he could. I’ve had some very daunting experiences in the entertainment industry with ALL races and dodged a lot of bullets. It’s best to read up on the business and have a good atty on standby. When you’re new they don’t expect you to know these things.

Dude crusaded against racism and used his shows as a means of shifting the conversations in white America around political and social issues, in order to promote the advancement of equality. Unfortunately, Eric Monte, should of come in with Lawyers and copywritten his work, however, he went in blindly trusting and was taken advantage of, it's the age old story, because we as a people are very inivative but we lack accomplishing the business sense we need to market inivative creative side and most importantly capital....Things are changing slowly!!!!💛
