This is a return to their earliest style that was so gentle and endearing. If Voyage is a journey through their stages, it will be awesome. Of course it will be.
God I would LOVE that...I would love to see where they go if they were to revisit the "Super Trouper-The Visitors" era, always felt that was a really peculiar era for the group!
Benny and Bjorn have said that this album picks up right after where The Visitors left off... And basically gave inference that this is but they would sound like if they continued on
So, as Agnetha finishes her gentle vocals on Don't Shut Me Down and as the last little guitar strings tinker out, boom! Straight in to Just a Notion! What a genius idea to have this song follow on from Don't shut Me down on Voyage.
What an AWESOME uplift for the world to have a beloved group such as ABBA return with an album to lift people’s spirits during this less than ideal world time right now. This makes a listener BUBBLE with excitement and happiness! Unbelievable 👏
I knew ABBA was big in the world with its sound, but seeing so many people get touched by their music really does me a stir in my soul! When they made their breakthrough in the 1970s, the media did not exist in this way as it does today. When I look at different reactions, I get warm in my heart and have little hope for humanity. That when the music can unite is incredibly wonderful. If any group can do this, it's ABBA with its catchy music. Greetings from Sweden!
man I love just a notion so much since I've heard the unreleased version of it. And now having the full song out there to enjoy... Abba is simply wonderful :)
Oh my goodness! Your reaction is abbasolutly great Dereck😊and yes your right about that the song just like that....while it is beautiful it is like that aye lol.😊 this song makes me want to dance the floor all night long....only if I could as my dancing days are over...I can still pump up the volume with my hand jive though lol.😂 but hey it is a fantastic song! Cheers Dereck😊
In these times of Pandemic strife, Abba's new songs elevate me back to the 70's in a way I put aside today's issues, if even a short while . This song is so well done and the girls vocals are unbelievable for their age. The whole production is very high end. This song seems to have the most western influence I've ever heard of all their songs. Love love love it. Very nostalgic.
Dear Dereck! What a reaction...so much love and joy from you! Loved every second of it. I'm Swedish and I basically grow up with ABBA constantly playing on the radio or on the stereo....Watching on TV, them winning the EU-schlager festival 1974 in Brighton; nothing but EPIC! Take care Dereck, keep on listing to music from all over the world... peace & love always! xx
This is SO fun - not only the song but it's so great to see Derecks just "go with it" - you can tell he's really into it and that proves how to do a great song when it's there to entertain.....
Tears literally came down from my eyes when I heard this whole album...just imagine being brought up from infant days with ABBA and 30 years later, boom! A great masterpiece of an album that took me way back to my early days! This was probably the best gift 2021 could ask for despite the perils that COVID created!
It hasn't charted well here in UK, but it achieved high physical sales figures, suggesting it's popular with the older generation who are more likely to by an MP3 or CD single than to stream. Another good reaction on your journey to fully fledged Abba fan status.
Absolutely love that you didn't pause not once during this reaction!!! This is my ultimate favorite ABBA song...way before this was even fully released going back to the 1994 box set "Thank You For The Music" as part of ABBA:Undeleted track...I always felt that this song had more life in it, and had a "notion" (yeah I know haha) that it was going to be on "Voyage"... it was going to be either this or "Just Like That" and after finding out the guys feeling on "Just Like That", I knew it had to be the best choice to go with this song!!!
A strong 3rd song on their Album...ABBA is the same thing as highest quality..they never take shortcuts, they never cheat, they have the talents to back it up,they only deliver great music...thats ABBA..
Bjorn said in live stream all the tracks on Voyage are new so he must consider this new since it wasn’t released and was finessed or reworked instrumentally. None the less, It is a great catchy song as only ABBA can do and Agnetha’s vocals superb and said in her recent interview if you like the first two tracks you will enjoy the album and added it is most definitely the ABBA SOUND. Thank you for an honest reaction and for appreciating and sharing the gift of ABBA to the music world!!
Right. Artists usually record a demo before releasing the final song. And this is the case. Just A Notion from ABBA Undeleted is just a demo and if you hear at the end it stopped suddenly, so it wasn't even finished.
They've never split, so Voyage, although fourty years later, is their next album after The Visitors. And because Just A Notion was never finished nor released, we can say they finally decided to release their "demo" version. Nothing wrong to complete the cycle that started in 1978 and ended in 2021 :D
'Just A Notion' was actually finished back in 1978 and it was originally going to be released in full on the 1994 box set Thank You For The Music but they had problems mixing the song so the song was edited in the Undeleted medley with only the second verse and second chorus being included.
I just love this song too, and love the extra depth with the complete newly recorded backing track, and finishing with the 2 new positive lines at the end of the song. And yes the beginning piano was new too! Can’t wait for the new album .... Ahaha 👌😍

🎼⚡ Thank you, @Eduardo Oscar Diconza, for your beautiful description! I guess Dereck will be happy for these words too. 🙂 Until today- *ABBA is the Band!*
I think I can see where they’re going with the new album, a voyage thru ABBA? We’ve had the timeless ballad, the early 80’s ‘would’ve been’ and here’s the stomper. The running order of previous albums always kept the strongest tracks as numbers 2, 6 & 7 and we’ve yet to hear those..!🤗
People are damn hard to satisfy, 6 months ago fans would have taken anything. I'd understand if the track was actually released back then, but it wasn't even finished. This is probably the last new ABBA content there will ever be, it's like manna from heaven compared to the musical manure of today. Stop bitching and make the most of it!!
If this new album is indeed a 'Voyage' through the various stages of the ABBA sound through the 70's and early 80's, I hope we get to hear again the Yamaha GX-1 that Benny has kept all these years. What a mighty sound that produced. November 5 can't come quick enough.
It's very sweet and innocent. I kind of appreciate the two other songs a bit more as a I feel like they sound more current and relevant to where they're at now lyrically. But this one is good too and very nostalgic.
I am so ecstatic for this song to be here - and as part of Abba fully coming back - that is icing on the cake. Love your reaction. You looked like you were tearing up in places. It is that good.

Me too! Never really understood the obsession with JLT, I mean it’s a decent song but JAN is (and always was) much more classic feelgood ABBA with a whole bunch of a-ha-ha’s thrown in for good measure. My dreams came true when I first saw that it was on the Voyage track list and it has really delivered the goods! 🎶💕
@@chawleyyy I can imagine why they are so obsessed with the song. I think it annoys a lot of Agnetha's fans that Frida has a song which she sings completely alone so they want a counterpart to "Like An Angel Passing Through My Room". Maybe I'm wrong (in this case: sorry to the Agnetha fans) but that are my thoughts about it.
@@Lisa-M Hm I never thought about it like that. Who knows. Maybe JLT fans will get a Christmas surprise anyway, if ABBA surprise everyone by making it a double-A side with Little Things…. stranger things have happened!
@@chawleyyy This would indeed be a big surprise if they would do that. Above all because JLT isn't a track of the new album and B+B don't like the song. So I don't think that this will happen. But yes, nothing is impossible.
J a N must be ABBAs most fun and happy song. Far away from the deep lyrics and thought-provoking stories as in Don´t shut me down and in I Still have faith. I´ve never smiled this much and been so happy after listening to an ABBA-song. I love this!!!!! And Dereck seems to agree with me.
Dereck hasn't react to Bang-A-Boomerang and Dum Dum Diddle until now and I think it's not easy to say which song is funnier and happier. But It's certain that all three songs are. :-D
As far as some complaining, sure we all have opinions, but it’s Their song to do what they want. It IS new as it was never finished and released until now. And who cares if they used some past voices of theirs, ABBA in the past is who we all fell in love with in the first place 🤗 They are the best!!!
I heard this song for the first time just when it was released. I wouldn't have known it was an old song of theirs had they not said. I'm glad they're adding previously unreleased songs to "Journey" because I get the feeling that the album just encapsulates Abba's well know sound so well.
This sounds pretty much like the 1978 version with some minor changes especially with the vocals where Agnetha’s vocal is now more prominent. But I love it 👍
Hello Dereck,Oh my god.How nice that you have this to react.I can't wait to buy the album.I love that you like this song!Or love it.How do you think the other songs are? How exciting.....I love it.Thank you Dereck.Your way of reacting songs is so fresh!Yes it is the first time!💝💝💝💝🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬
On another reaction channel they suggested that there was an unanswered question in the lyrics of Don't Shut Me Down; I'm back, do you want me? They suggested the question would be answered be another song on the album. Based on the track listing of Voyage and the lyrics Just A Notion is the lyrical answer to Don't Shut Me Down. It's a rather nice perspective.
I love this song. I am not bothered if the vocals are from 1978, but I suspect there is a mix of the old and new vocals. The instrumentation is superb. The song gas so much energy from start to finish. Thank you for reacting.
Great track. They really "warmed it up" compared to the original unreleased version. I'm still amazed no-one has mentioned what sounds like MIDI keyboard brass in the intro - don't know why they didn't use real brass there - sounds a bit "Casio", LOL. But the song is super super catchy - it's been stuck in my head for days. :)
It's so amazing to finally have the full version after we got a teaser way back in 1994!!! And while some are unhappy that they used old vocals I think it's sooooo cool they finished off something they started all those years ago. When I first played it on my Yamaha sound system yesterday I was blown at how punchy it sounded. Benny's piano SLAYS!!! In Carl Magnus Palm's excellent book "The Complete Recording Sessions" the original demo went for 4:08 (maybe an extra chorus was cut?) with an un-faded end and the recording got as far as vocal overdubbing when Bjorn & Benny scrapped it. Magnus Palm surmises that Bjorn & Benny probably felt that it sounded too 1950's at a time when disco was starting to dominate pop. 1978 was a year which several Abba songs were scrapped and never completed and Bjorn & Benny suffered from writers block. Voulez Vous was originally slated for release by Christmas 1978 but by the end of October only " Lovers (Live A Little Longer), "Summer Night City" and "The King Has Lost His Crown" were considered for release. But the creative juices started flowing again with "If It Wasn't For The Nights" and "Chiquitita" written by the end of the year and Voulez Vous was eventually released in April 1979.
That's an awesome comment - I'd forgotten about their writer's block year and I could imagine Just a Notion on an album with the original version of Summer Night City (written the same year) far more easily then I could picture this song on either The Album or Voulez-Vous. And as we know ABBA wasn't even particularly happy with Summer Night City as a track when they released it - 78 must have been a particularly hard year for the band creatively.
This song grows and grows on me every time I listen to. Abba are on top of the world again. Yup on top.
Same overhere
This is a return to their earliest style that was so gentle and endearing. If Voyage is a journey through their stages, it will be awesome. Of course it will be.
Great point Kevin - a voyage through their career and styles makes sense of the title of the new album.

”I’m now and then combined”. Surely a voyage through time and its stages!

No autotune because they Anni-Frid (Frida) and Agnetha can actually Sing unlike modern pop.

"Just a Notion"
is ABBA's third single from the upcoming new album "Voyage"
It is a curious and unique case at the same time, it was a song that they recorded in 1978 during the previous sessions for the future album "Voulez Vous"
but later they discarded it
And now in this fantastic comeback ABBA retouches it and finally edits it
So it has the double character of old and new song at the same time, recorded between 43 years (quite a record), it has the charm of old and new together, and sounds wonderful
I must admit that I do not like disco or dance music
I enjoy it more listening to it relaxed
That's why "Voulez Vous" is not on my favorite ABBA album
but "Just a Notion" is a terribly addictive song, impossible to resist dancing to it
Its melody is beautiful, catchy and cheerful, the lyrics are pleasant, the voices are spectacular (there are great tones from Agnetha, the union with Frida is of excellence and those
A-HA-HA are a brand that is etched in your mind)
It's also a great musical production (the saxophone and the piano shine) and the ending is a beauty
It gives me the impression that "Just a Notion" is a great piece that stayed with the spirit of the versatility of "ABBA The Album" and has not yet been impregnated with the disco sound of "Voulez Vous"
but welcome that now ABBA reconsidered it to include it in the new "Voyage" album
ABBA did it again
This is a new treasure of
Agnetha Benny Björn Frida
the Fabs Four from Sweden
ABBA returned at a very high level to bring hope and joy to the world

I heard this song for the first time just when it was released. I wouldn't have known it was an old song of theirs had they not said. I'm glad they're adding previously unreleased songs to "Journey" because I get the feeling that the album just encapsulates Abba's well know sound so well.
This sounds pretty much like the 1978 version with some minor changes especially with the vocals where Agnetha’s vocal is now more prominent. But I love it 👍
Love Abba! Love his reactions just as much
Great and finally you have now a reaction to this new song of ABBA...3rd song released under #ABBAVoyage album...💙💖💛
Hello Dereck,Oh my god.How nice that you have this to react.I can't wait to buy the album.I love that you like this song!Or love it.How do you think the other songs are? How exciting.....I love it.Thank you Dereck.Your way of reacting songs is so fresh!Yes it is the first time!💝💝💝💝🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬
Love that you couldn't bear to pause it because you were enjoying it too much! 🤩🤩🤩
It's the Old and New combined from Don't Shut Me Down.
Yes voices from 1978 and 2021!
Björn has already confirmed that ALL the vocals are from 1978, but the
Instrumentation and arrangement is new. They released it on demand by fans.
@@OperaJH Two lines in the end are new.
@@OperaJH Not exactly, they sing on them too.
@@agnetamalmqvist9075 go look up the quote from Björn himself.
The vocals from back then were so perfect - I would have been dissapointed if they used new vocals since the ladies have a different range now.
